When visiting Old Forge definitely check out Salerno's. The pizza is so light, fluffy and delicious. The wings are large and they always taste and smell amazing. We end up so full that we each take a cannoli home to enjoy later. I'm a cannoli addict and theirs are really, really good. When you walk in the side door you can either go to the right where there is a bar and seating or to the left where there is a large dining area. We've sat in both areas on different occasions and enjoyed both. Their bartender, Cat is terrific. Even on super busy weekend nights you won't go without a drink. Check them out! read more

The Old Forge pizza was great. Buyer beware there are onions on the white, but you can hardly taste it! Totally worth the off the path trip to try the famous pizza. Son got the buffalo chicken sandwich, it was good but would pick the stuffed white over the sandwich. read more

This used to be one of my favorite Old Forge pizza places, but it has gone way down in recent years. The red pizza was mediocre at best; it was like lots of dough with a little sauce and some cheese. We also got a slice of white which tasted like a grilled cheese and a slice of spinach which was just okay. So disappointed that the quality is no longer there. read more

Your typical upstate, local, bar/restaurant ... except this is the one with the best old-forge style pizza. Both the red tray and the white stuffed trays are excellent. The white is my all time favorite of the area. Since i'm not local, i'm always making trips home with at least $75 worth of food. If I visit and dont bring my father home two orders of tripe, i'm in trouble. Although i dont eat tripe, i'm told theirs is the best. Always found the staff to be helpful and polite. read more

This place was in my Roadfood book, which usually doesn't let me down, but this time it did...... big time!!!! The pizza was not good at all. They put American cheese on it, which is supposed to be the area specialty or something, but it was really just gross. They've got Miller Chill though, so there's that at least. read more

I used to go here every couple months when I'm old forge before moving out of the area 10 years ago. Pizza was exceptionally good but anymore it is fair. Paste was more like a soup served on a plate and 12.00 for the spaghetti and 2 fair sized meat balls and stale bread is excessive. My husband and I were vacationing in the Poconos and took a drive to Old Forge to check out the pizza. We were told that Salerno's had the best by a local and we were not disappointed. Two tourists walk into the bar area on a Saturday evening. A lot of stares. I think the music may have stopped. It felt like we were ignored in the vicinity of the sign that said "please wait to be seated". We eventually were seated. It was all uphill from there. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. We had never had old forge pizza before, we ordered the tomato/basil option and a house salad as an app. The pizza was fantastic!! wow... the pizza crust was a godsend. i think they use american cheese.... wow... highly recommended! solid pizza. not to die for, but solid (and so you will be too if you eat too much). It was open on a sunday. I would have gone to Elios (now Lou's). But, they did not pick up the phone. Happy with the alternative. You do get the eye as you walk in from the locals, but they folks at the bar helped with our pick up and carry out. they don't have take away drinks, but can provide ice and napkins to help eat on the road, if you are, for example, going to state college. Would definately go back. ask for a tray (not a pizza, you non-local), 12 slices per tray. it was $16.50. would feed 3-4. we liked it, so would feed three. realized that i have eaten in twice, I think. solid. bar-like, not fancy, but good food. read more

Another solid NEPA pizza experience. Unlike any other, unique in it's own way. Light airy crust that is crisp on the bottom and chewy in the middle. Sauce has a hint of onion flavor, but no onions and just enough. Cheese is a mozzarella/American mix. ....I think. Creamy and separates easy when you cut each slice. The tomato garlic basil was excellent. They split a 12 cut tray 1/2 and 1/2. Nice wait staff and inexpensive. With tip....$32 for 12 cuts, 3 beers and a tip. read more

Authentic and one of original pizza joints In Old Forge. If you want amazing pizza and pasta this is where you go. Some maybe put off by the half bar half restaurant area but that is part of its charm. In the restaurant you may see people laughing and maybe even passing food to other tables because an old friend is there too. If you want fancy don't go here. Was there this evening. The waitress was totally rude from the moment we walked in. We even asked her if she wanted us to leave. The food was okay. But, the service was horrible. A complete and total rip off. I ordered an Italian hoagie from here on my lunch. I found a menu posted online which listed the sandwich for $5.00. 30 min later I arrive and the price mysteriously inflated to $7.65??!!! $7.65 for a 5" hoagie with 3 slices of meat and 1 piece of cheese?! I was completely floored......... I know inflation is bad right now but I can't imagine the price naturally spiking $2.65 in less than an hour. What a total load of BS! read more

My wife and I walked into the restaurant and immediately felt like we were in the way. Tables were available, but we just stood there. After we were seated, we placed our order for an antipasto and a tray of pizza. The antipasto came out timely. People that came a half hour after us got their pizza, and we were still waiting forever for ours. We were ready to just get our check and get out of there, but she finally brought the pizza. I asked why did it take so long, and she said they call by table number. We must have been table 99. We asked for our check and a box. This was our first, and it is our last time there. I just had to write this because I can only imagine that the bad reviews were written by people that grew up eating Pizza Hut and thinking that Olive Garden was Italian food. This is the bar/cafe where every body knows your name (if you are from here). Sit in the front bar and appreciate the small town atmosphere of a local pizza place run by a family not a franchise. Old Forge style pizza is different that traditional "round" pizza. But if you are willing to try it, take a minute to really taste the crust which really was rolled by an old lady in the kitchen who has been doing this for years. The pizza is also lighter, less greasy than traditional pizza. I personally like Salerno's the best of the Old Forge pizza chains. I have taken many of out of state friends here and they all end up talking about it years later. So if you are looking for Dominoes, that is at the end of Main St in Old Forge, but you can get that anywhere. read more

The white pizza is best on the planet. The service however is horrible. Calling the number on line to order for pick up either gets you told to call another number or they drop the phone on the bar for God knows how long until someone huffs what do you want. I've never called a restaurant that seemed more bothered by me trying to spend my money there. I wish the owners would call their own number and try to place an order. I pray they do. This is a dark, dingy bar, but that's ok with me. I just wouldn't go here if I wanted to go to a restaurant. We ate at the bar and had attentive service from the bartender during lunch. My husband and I both ordered sandwiches; my hot sicilian was good and I would order it again. Salerno's Red Pizza is out of this world. The dough is so light and airy 2 people can easily eat an entire tray in one sitting. The sauce has just the right amount of tang, but it is the cheese that puts this pizza over the edge. Not sure what the blend is but it is like nothing I've ever tasted before, it sort of sticks to your teeth. The 45 minute drive is well worth it! read more

ive had it twice since moving here a month ago. and i didnt come very far, just from scranton. and i love old forge style pizza and have had it many, many times from quite a few places so it's not like i don't know what old forge style pizza is. their pizza is okay. i can take it or leave it. nothing that would make me purposly want to order from there again. they also do not know the definition of garlic/butter wings. they gave us garlic HOT wings. when called to complain they just said "oh well." nice right? on a second occasion( yeah i did give em a second chance, everyone deserves one) i get an italian hoagie with no peppers. well i was completely disappointed. it was tiny for its price and it came with the peppers that i specifically didnt want and it looked and tasted like it had ranch dressing on it instead of italian dressing. and btw, american cheese on pizza is just plain discusting. cheese on pizza is supposed to be stringy mozzerella. read more
