The food and servers are great but the restaurant is not handicap friendly if you're in a wheelchair. The is no spot to remove chairs and place a wheelchair in the normal dining area. So it's great unless your wheelchair bound unfortunately. They need to fix this. read more

I'd driven by this place on Michigan Ave. several times before but this was our first visit to the Saline Inn, a family-run restaurant in the town of Saline, Mi (pop. 9,151). I ended up liking almost everything about this small town venue and am rating it slightly better than 4 stars. I had the Philly Steak Omelette while my wife went vegetarian. The steak, veggies and cheeses in our omelettes were freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. We were both feeling pretty good about ourselves having subbed tomato slices for the hash browns...until we gave in to carbohydrate loading on a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes. Our breakfasts were both excellent. The only thing I thought was inconsistent with the overall experience of the Saline Inn was the obvious negative attitude of our server. She was super short with us in taking our orders and in doing so, spoiled what otherwise could have been a 5-star breakfast rating. Because anyone of us can have an occasional bed day (free pass), and on the strength of the excellent food, I'm throwing the Inn a solid 4 stars. I have been here several times and have experienced the cold, rude, distance of the staff. I am a black woman and when I called in my order I get a totally different vibe from when I picked up my order. I hear the wait staff around me saying " hey, do you need any thing else sweets" in a pleasant tone. I don't get that tone. I almost left the debit card there because I wanted to get out of that unpleasant space as fast as possible. It's so funny because I work and live in Saline. I buy in Saline. I work at the the middle school in the special education department and prior to covid we took our students to eat here weekly. I will not spend my personal revenue at this establishment in the future and I will let my administration know at Saline Middle School how I have been treated repeatedly. read more

I have eaten at this place twice now--yesterday and about two weeks ago. Both times, we ran into people we know who live in Saline. It seems to be a great gathering place for the town. Both times, hubby and I had the fish & chips with one cole slaw for each of us. We split the order and it was plenty. Our waiter brought us an extra plate and we divvied it up. Yeah, I know. Fried foods. I rarely eat them, but these fish chunks were nicely battered, and both the fish and the fries were very hot when they arrived. I think this place is great! I ordered a Veggie Omelette with hash browns. The omelette was huge and made of three eggs, so I was super full. Plus, it was only $6.59, so you're definitely getting your money's worth. The meal was kind of bland but I think that's the idea of breakfast foods - to add your own amount of salt and pepper. So I used to live by a marks midtown Coney Island, and I loved that place dearly. Then I moved, and there wasn't a place that measures up to that coney. Then I found the Saline Inn. Granted, it looks dumpy from the outside, and it's a small place, but they serve food just like a Coney Island. I have to say, the fries are REALLY good. If your looking for a place to eat with your child after a soccer game (or any sporting event), the saline inn is a great choice. Normally I like the place and granted it's been a while since I've been here, I had some ridiculous order screw ups today. Order was simple. Eggs scrambled with peppers and onions and a side of bacon. No toast and nobody even mentioned potatoes. I get back eggs plain, hash browns with peppers and onions on them and some less than warm bacon. I pointed the egg screw up immediately and the waitress brought the meal back. 10 seconds later she came back with the same plate where someone clearly just moved the peppers over. Maybe I needed to more clearly articulate what I expected. But if you're wondering where that tip went on our 20 dollar meal, you can ask whoever made that poor decision to provide sub par service rather than bite the bullet, recook some eggs and make a new plate and still charge for everything as if nothing happened. She handed it to me and walked away (like I could ring it up myself!), she took care of 3 more tables and then came and ran my card. this place was awful, dilapidated standard diner from the 60's decor. Nothing about this place is extraordinary or special in any way. the salad was iceberg lettuce, period. They didn't carry bleu cheese dressing. The food is run of the mill. It is in essence, the equivalent to a bad coney island. Saline doesn't have much to offer in the way of restaurants so I can understand a skewing of star score. But my method is if the place has a drive thru window it is a 1 star establishment, period. If I could I would rate this place 1.5. 5 star places should reserved for places that are truly incredible in some form or fashion and in that vein there should only be a handful in the whole state.
