SALJU HAS EXCELLENT SHAVED SNOW =============================== I am so glad Salju is still in business after all these years! It seems really popular as well. While I was there lots of people came in. I used to bring my son years ago. My selection today was a small matcha with strawberries on top. I had the choice of two items in addition to condensed milk which I love. Next time I'll pay extra for more condensed milk. It was absolutely delicious. Even though it's about twelve miles from my home I will make the trip. It's worth it. The service is great too.
I love this place! It's a gem and a hole in the wall that I wish I would have found sooner. I love their rice cakes and mochi. Everything I've had here has been delicious. I love getting their matcha and my girls switch between mango/strawberry flavors
Came here with family after dinner for a little dessert stop and it ended up being one of the highlights of our night! The shop itself is small and cozy, but super cute and full of energy. Even though it was busy when we arrived, the line moved quickly and the staff kept everything running smoothly. The moment we walked in, the smell of fresh waffles and sweet ice cream filled the whole shop and instantly made us excited to order. Since we had all just eaten dinner, we figured we'd play it safe and order the small sizes... big mistake! Their "small" portions are HUGE and definitely big enough to share. We were honestly surprised when our desserts came out. Everything looked amazing and tasted even better -- fresh, warm, sweet, and perfectly satisfying without being overly heavy. The service was fast, the desserts were delicious, and the overall atmosphere made it such a fun family stop. We'll absolutely be coming back again, and next time we know to share!
We found GOLD in Alhambra! Mother's Day lunch at a well known seafood restaurant, the family was searching for dessert to complete the special occasion. Of course we turned to Yelp! Enter Salju! Amazing place. Delicious dessert, super friendly service, and very cozy but comfortable dining area. Huge variety of desserts from drinks, to ice cream, crepes, and the best shaved ice. The service was a bit slow but not because of lack of hustle. This couple was hauling the best they can with the Mother's Day crowd. And it was worth the wait. Check out everyone's photos. If you're coming in a big crew like I did, order different items and share share share. I will definitely make an effort to return here especially with summer fast approaching. Clean solo bathroom and plenty of parking.
Such a cute hidden spot on Valley! I stopped by late at night craving something to cool me off and ended up here for dessert. I've been here before, but ever since Salju went viral on TikTok, it's definitely gotten a lot busier compared to past years. That said, the quality is still great. I ordered a regular milk shaved ice with mango and mochi, plus condensed milk drizzled on top. The shaved ice itself and the toppings were delicious, but I'd probably skip the condensed milk next time since it made everything a bit too sweet for my taste. Portion sizes are generous. The small is easily enough to share between two people, and the medium is massive. There are tons of flavor options to choose from, and orders come out pretty quickly despite how busy it can get!
A classic dessert spot in the 626! I love coming here for their hefty portions and late night service, since most non-tea places in the area close around 10pm! Their mango flavor was delicious, not too artificial and the serving size is perfect for two people. Their mochi and condensed milk are by far my favorite toppings! The mochi is perfectly soft, not too dry, and a good balance to the sweetness of the ice.
small shaved ice ($8.5) - at first i was like why is this shaved ice almost $10 after tax but it is so worth it given the size, texture, flavor, and the fact that you can choose two toppings! - there is a great variety of toppings which I liked; i got the grass jelly and red bean, both of which were good quality ingredients - got it without any condensed milk bc it was already yummy by itself; light, refreshing, and a perfect guilt free sweet treat - the matcha was super strong and the shaved ice itself had a quirky texture; although it is shaved ice it has a texture leaning a bit towards gelato? A bit gooey when you pull it up; It doesn't melt quickly right in your mouth too rating: 4.7/5 - this might be on my top 2 shaved ice spot because its texture was just so unique; flavor was good and portion was massive - i really have nothing to complain about this spot and what's even better is the amount of seats and outlets in the store - has a restroom in the back - great spot to hang and chit chat - super welcoming and friendly service - service is extremely speedy IG: @nom.noms.only
This was my first time trying snow ice and I am so happy. There is a kiosk that you can order at. We got their medium black sesame snow ice because we both love black sesame. I was amazed to see how many different flavors they offer. For the medium snow ice, it comes with three toppings. Our dessert came out within 10 minutes. I like how this dessert didn't taste overly sweet. I really liked the real taro chunks that we ordered. It tasted so good! It was pretty busy when we went, but we still were able to grab a seat at a table. The rice balls also tasted so chewy and delicious. It is a small store with a few workers. Parking was a bit difficult but I found some parking at the residential streets nearby. They do have a tiny parking lot up front. I can't wait to go back and try their other flavors.
Wow freaking amazing!!! Had this spot bookmarked for a while. Walked in on a weekday evening and lots of people there. Ordered at a kiosk and got stuck trying to decide on the flavor. Settled on Thai tea with mochi, mango, and condensed milk. Holy moly I ordered a small and it was enough for two people. Smooth delicious ice and the Thai tea flavor was spot on. I will say it was one of those flavors you kindof get tired of by the end. Would love to try mango or coconut next time. Employees are hard at work busy behind the counter but I asked for help on choosing flavors and they were happy to assist.
Salju is my FAVEEEE dessert place in the 626. I love how they take card now. It is so easy to order with their kiosk. I've been going here for years now. We usually get their medium size snow ice which includes three toppings + (any syrup) condensed milk. I've tried a lot of their flavors including their matcha, durian, honeydew, pandan, black sesame - all of their flavors are so good. The must topping you have to get is their rice balls. It is so chewy and has a very nice texture. They have a couple tables inside and outside where you can enjoy your dessert. I loveee salju so muchh. Their snow ice is so soft and fluffy. Parking is pretty limited especially in the evening when they are busy, but there is residential street parking as an option. I usually don't wait long at all and always end up finding a table. I definitely recommend this spot :-)
We ordered a small shaved ice, but the portion was still super generous. We also got a crepe loaded with fillings. It was crispy, flavorful, and so delicious. The shop is pretty small with just a few tables, but it's perfect for enjoying dessert. The service was friendly, and overall it's a great spot, especially for summer!

It was SO hot this past weekend so we were craving shaved ice to cool down. My fiancé was looking for that specific fluffy texture, and even though it was late, I randomly found this spot on Yelp! The place was pretty crowded, which says a lot. It's small inside but has a mix of big and small tables. We were lucky enough to grab a seat while waiting for our order. The shaved ice was PERFECT. I got matcha and it was bold and strong , and my fiancé got mango and ube! He loved both. They also have tons of toppings to choose from, from fresh fruit to candies, and the portions are huge. The cashier was super friendly and patient while we struggled to pick flavors. Highly recommend if you're trying to beat the heat!

I used to love this place.. but they must have changed owners or something because the service was horrible today. The guy behind the counter got my order wrong, and I told him that when he gave me my shaved ice. His only response was, "you good...?" The food: their sesame snow shaved ice was always on point.. but their toppings have gotten less and less and their boba seems to be instant and old. So I don't recommend that. read more

If you live around this area and you want to get a good dessert? Try Salju Dessert. I would argue that they are better than Sul & Beans or any other shaved iced desserts I have ever had. The place is very cozy and clean. The owner is from Indonesia (my hometown ), but she could speak Mandarin well. Pricing was great too. In terms of menu, you could choose from crepes, hot tea, iced tea, milk drink and shaved ice. I really like how fully customizable (think Yogurtland but for shaved ice) their shaved ice is (this is the only one I have tried). I have so far tried black sesame, durian and pandan flavor. These are all great, but I think pandan is probably the best among the lot. As for the toppings, try mochi, rice ball and egg pudding. As for syrup, you can choose not to have it if you prefer a less sweet option. However, if you do want syrup, condensed milk and passion fruit are great options to have. Overall, I would definitely recommend this dessert place and if you prefer mild sweetness, ask the server for recommendations. Tip: If you tend to get dessert in the area late at night (after 9PM), you won't get a place better than Salju Dessert . read more

This is our favorite spot to go when we are craving something sweet. For the shaved ice you are able to choose the flavor of the ice cream, toppings and a syrup. I recommend the matcha ice cream. It's delicious. Their passion fruit syrup is tasty. For the açaí bowls, I've had different flavors: dragon fruit, blue spirulina, charcoal, and matcha. I would recommend the blue spirulina, I get that flavor all the time for their bowls. For the crepes, I've had their mixed fruit crepe and it was delicious! Desperately needed to cool off today, & remembered Salju! I'm so glad they still serve snow ice!! This dessert isn't your typical ice drizzled in syrup. Snow ice is flavored ice, so there's flavor in every bite! My go to combo is always Green Tea, red beans, mochi, & condensed milk. Super yummy & refreshing. The green tea isn't overly sweet which balances out with the toppings. Overall, love the dessert and would come back for it because this is the only snow ice place I know.. -1 star for the customer service. She wasn't welcoming at all, sorry to say. read more

Go here if you like dessert that are not OVERLY sweet! I love their nutty banana crepe, it's super crispy yet soft in the inside. Most places i've been too make their crepe TOO SWEET, this is the ONLY place that I can say i now enjoy crepes! I live 40 mins away and came back the following day just for it, it's that delicious! I also tried their snow but i think its mediocre. I wish they used crushed Oreos rather than whole Oreos, defeats the whole purpose of eating snow. Overall, CREPES 10/10! read more
I've been here multiple times pre-covid and I really loved the dessert. It's a Taiwanese style shaved ice dessert that I really love. It's not sold everywhere that shaved ice is sold, so I'm so happy to know of this place. They have a variety of shaved ice flavors and so many toppings to choose from. And the flavors are perfect. Their indoor seating is nice and clean and comfy. Now during the pandemic, I had forgotten about this place and then suddenly remembered when my friend and I wanted to get shaved ice. The indoor seating is obviously gone, but the quality of the dessert is still the same. Plus they added new flavors/toppings, so I was really excited to try the durian shaved ice (note, it's more costly than the other flavors: $6.50 for a small vs the regular $4.95 for a small... or $8.50 for a medium vs $6.75 for a medium) and added jackfruit and taro pudding as my toppings. The employees have always been courteous. Never talkative nor really friendly, just typical taking the order and then letting me know when it's ready. You might want to note that to use the credit card, there's a $10 minimum. And if it's cash, they don't accept bills over $20 and prefer exact change. They do have hand sanitizers a their counter. And the spoons and straws are individually wrapped (spoons with a napkin and taped together, and straws in packaging). There's very limited outdoor seating but it's not very shaded, depending on the day. We asked for lids and rushed back to my friend's place to enjoy our desserts. I was very happy with my selection and wished I had ordered a medium instead - next time for sure it'll be medium :) read more

The shaved ice at Salju is unbelievably fluffy and all the toppings are super fresh and delicious. It's a shame that I only heard about this place until recently. A special shoutout to the cashier to very patiently waited for me to pick my flavors and toppings. So this place has been under new management since COVID started, but I'm just happy it's still around. It was good before and it's still good now. It's not easy to find Taiwanese shaved snow in this area! The texture is just really soft and melts in your mouth... There are a nice array of flavors to choose from, and also two sizes: small and medium. I got a small serving of Thai Tea yesterday and it might also depend on who makes it for you, but it was .. kinda lacking.... I think I will stick to my usual of the medium size and sharing with someone ! Service is friendly, quick, and the dessert is yummy! Worst crepes i've ever tried! I ordered a Nutella and fruit crepe and there was barely any Nutella in it. I didn't enjoy it being so crispy either, it was basically a sweet chip. But what really bothered me was the lack of Nutella, especially cause it was not cheap. read more

One of my favorite dessert spots!!! I ordered the 3 shaved ice: - strawberry snow w/ strawberry, banana, rice ball, and condensed milk - original/milk snow w/ strawberry, banana, mochi, and condensed milk - matcha snow w/ strawberry, banana, mochi, and condensed milk You really can't go wrong with any of the shaved ice flavors. The shaved ice is very refreshing and very light. A lot of times i feel disgusting after dessert, but this dessert never makes me feel disgusting no matter how full i am from my dinner. A big plus is that this place is very affordable. I've been to this place countless number of times and I will continue to come back. Note: It can get packed in the evenings. There is a decent amount of seating indoors. There is a small parking lot but most of the time, i find street parking nearby. Also, the inside of the dessert shop can get very toasty so be sure not to wear too much. read more

I heard Salju Dessert is going to be closing their business soon or they might not now? I don't know all the exact details, but figured I might as well share my experience here as a first timer. I'm not too fond of shaved ice desserts in general, but decided to try this Taiwanese dessert shop after my cousin's recommendation stating how amazing their shaved ice treats are. I got the Vietnamese coffee flavor drizzled in condensed milk syrup with banana slices and brownie bites to finish it off. It was a terrific, airy, satisfying frozen treat! Still retained a prominent java flavor even though it's made from shaved ice. Pleasantly sweet with a lighter texture compared to ice cream and gelato. The Vietnamese coffee flavor was reminiscent of Häagen-Dazs's coffee ice cream, creamy yet still having a rich coffee essence. I would highly suggest getting this flavor if you're a coffee lover like I am. Their business shares a spacious parking lot along with having a sufficient amount of indoor seating (no outdoor seating though). Prices here are probably average for this kind of dessert and the small size is actually more like a medium, ideal for sharing with someone else. Customer service is amiable and their shaved ice treats are created in a jiffy, so hardly any wait time at all time before enjoying this frozen treat. And just an FYI, they are a cash-only establishment. I really hope Salju Dessert decides not to officially close their doors, because next time I'm in the Alhambra/Monterey Park area, I'll be looking forward to stopping in again to try a different flavor of their shaved ice! read more

This is my first time trying shaved ice like this. Such a bizarre experience. I ordered the coconut shave ice topped with pineapples and strawberries and a light drizzle of strawberry sauce. It was a good combination. The texture is so weird. You think you're biting into something fluffy, but as you mouth through the spoon, it turns into a dense ice cream. What the heck? One of the best snow ice that you can find in Los Angeles area! Plus points: (+) Generous portion & toppings (+) Variety of flavors. Yet, really good! After a big meal down the street, shaved ice is the perfect way to go! Small is just the right size! Large would be better if I didn't eat so much prior! Small you get choice of two toppings. Large is three. They ran out of rice balls, which is sad! But got almond snow with mochi and almond jelly and the 2nd one was Thai tea snow with jackfruit and mochi. Cute seating inside. Many flavored snow and toppings to choose from. Oh and the sauce.... They load it with condense milk! read more

I've had shave iced desserts before but the ice on these were of a unique texture and delicious. You have a choice of many different ingredients and if you buy a large cup then you can easily share it. I requested condensed milk as the final topping and that made it extra delicious. read more

This place is an independent Bingsu dessert! The fact that it's not a franchise brand makes this place really unique. I have been here on and off since 2014. So far, the quality and the taste are still the same. Pick up your size (small or large), flavors of ice shave, toppings and your sauces! Was really missing the regular place I would go for shaved snow so decided to come here. The sizes they have here I would say are more personal size cups. They have a wide selection of flavors and you can choose to add more for a price or depending on the size you order. I had the thai tea and regular snow with mochi, strawberry, condensed milk, and mango toppings. Unfortunately the mango wasn't fresh and was basically brown. The snow tasted good but I wish they gave more condensed milk as the ratio to snow wasn't enough. Overall everything snow was good just wish they wouldn't serve browning fruits. read more

Their shaved iced and crepes are always a 10/10. They pack in so many toppings onto the crepe and the crepe itself is so flavorful and crispy. The shaved ice is also very flavorful and pairs well with so many of the toppings they offer on their menu. Customers order at the register and may wait at the many seating areas within this dessert spot. My order came out pretty quick this time, but I have visited when it was quite busy and waited a bit longer. The ambiance of this place is pretty lively, with lots of young people coming in to enjoy some dessert. read more

Yes, we have the regular shaved ice with water based. And you can choose the syrup like chocolate, strawberry, passion fruit, mango, lychee, guava, peach syrup. And choose the toppings as well.
What does original flavor taste like?
Is Salju still open ? I've tried to go a few times in the last two months and they've been closed. :(
Salju is now open. Their hours are 1-7pm. Closed Tuesdays
Can someone please confirm whether Salju is open or closed (permanently)? They have been closed the last 2 times we tried and they don't answer their phone. (March 3, 2020)
