I have to say I really like Salju. I'm not a big fan of shaved ice or snow, but Salju somehow changed my mind. I've been here a few times and I always get their Black Sesame snow with Condensed Milk, egg pudding, and rice balls. That combination seems to always work (no matter where you go), but it tastes exceptional here! Once you get your order, you can always ask them for another bottle of condensed milk so that you and your table could add as much as needed. The only reason I'm giving this place less than perfect is that a few times I've been here, they've ran out of a topping that I've wanted, and sometimes, seating can be limited. But it's not a biggie. Salju's got so many combinations that you could choose from! I've also tried their green tea and it was also pretty good. With tons of flavors, tons of toppings, and different sauces, there will always be something for everyone! And as if shaved ice/snow wasn't enough, Salju also comes with a variety of Crepe options as well! Salju is not bad if you love sugary sweets and don't want ice cream. They serve "custom made" shaved snow...meaning you order the snow, the flavor of the snow, and a few toppings. It was a hot day so my sweet tooth friend and I tried: Taro: Super taro flavor...not as sweet as the other flavors and very rich. It's great if you LOVE taro, but to some the flavor may be too strong. Black sesame: Flavor is also strong like taro, though slightly less. Also less sweet than the others, and it really does taste like you are biting into a frozen black sesame dessert. Lychee: Very light and too sweet for me. Tasted more like watered down lychee icee. Guava: Also light, though the flavor did not taste as watered down as the lychee. Also sweet, but not overly so. It was very refreshing to me. We also ordered a bunch of random toppings, but the one that made me do a double take was the taro. I always pictured taro as a white-purple speckled root, but this one was dark ORANGE?! Maybe it's a different type of taro or it was colored by sugar water (taro was very sweet), but don't be expecting your cute little purple friend when you order this topping. Another tip...stick to what Salju is known for. The drinks are all made and pre-sweetened so you can't really order any tea without sugar. Shaved snow heaven! Salju is my all time favorite place for shaved snow in SGV. In terms of quality, price, and service I feel like Salju has it all. You are allowed to sample any of the flavors listed on their menu. My favorites are the almond, Thai tea, and green tea matcha flavors. I've tried the fruity flavors and they didn't really stand out to me. They only have two sizes of shaved snow. The small is $3.95 and you can chose two toppings, the medium is $5.50 and you can choose three toppings. With a group of 4 I will usually get two mediums which I think is plenty to share. After choosing the size, you then choose your flavor of shaved snow, then the syrup, and finally the toppings. I love that they have over 30 different types of toppings available and if you add additional toppings it is only $1 extra. This place usually gets crowded at nights and weekends but I usually never have too much trouble finding seats since people eat and leave pretty quickly. This is my first shaved ice joint and I gotta say, if they're all like this, I am TOtAlLy into it!! At first the texture threw me off a bit as well as the flavors but I was def hooked after the second bite :) So far, I've only tried out the black sesame (totally drooling just reliving those delicious spoons full of light n fluffy sweetness :Q__)and thai tea (too sweet and I don't really like thai tea.. Still fun to try) but def heading back soon to try out lychee, taro, green tea n the original flavors too!! Mmmm can't wait! I loooove SALJU! Finally tried it after hearing about it from more than 10 of my friends. They were right. Hands down, Salju has the best shaved snow in the LA/Alhambra area!! I got the small Taro Snow with condensed milk, mochi, and egg pudding. SOOO DELICIOUS! I especially love the texture of the snow. It's got this chewy, super-thin fibrous yet soft thing going on. Tasted amazing with the condensed milk which they just give you a WHOLE BOTTLE of at your table so you can just keep putting unlimited amounts on your snow! Amazing! They also have $1 boba/pudding drinks during their happy hour from 3-6 PM! What a deal!! Also... they have their OWN FREE PARKING LOT! YES!! Step 1: Choose a size. If you get the small, which is what I highly recommend, it'll cost you just about $4.00. The small already comes with 2 different toppings but you can add more toppings for $1.00 each. Step 2: Choose your snow flavor. They have tons to choose from but I always either go for the mango or green guava. The snow ice consistency is on par with Class 302. It always reminds me of super soft ice cream. The green guava has just a little bit of tartness to it but the condensed milk subsides that. Step 3: Choose your syrup. This one is totally optional. I never use to get condensed milk when I frequented Class 302 but when I saw people asking for extra condensed milk, I had to give it a try. I definitely suggest it if you want some extra thick sweetness added to your cup. Step 4: Choose your toppings. They have everything from fresh mango to fruity pebbles. I always stick with their fresh fruit toppings. I feel like it's healthier when I am getting fresh fruit to balance out the condensed milk (I know, unrealistic). So I thought I had tried the best Shave Snow ever when I tried Class 302 back in the day. Then came along Blockheads Shavery and I never went back to Class 302. Now I have tried Salju Dessert and I am torn between Salju and Blockheads!!! Service: Salju Dessert is definitely family owned and run as you see the workers/family members dressed up casually running around fulfilling orders and cleaning up - Unlike Blockheads and Class 302. Staff and service is relatively quick and super friendly. Shave Snow: Definitely better than Class 302. Comparable to Blockheads - very light, fluffy, and flavorful. Flavors are infused and integrated in the snow. They offer more flavors than Blockheads, but they both taste great. I tried their Black Sesame, Guava, and Honeydew and they were amazing. I want to try their Green Tea so I can compare my favorites (Black Sesame and Green Tea) to Blockheads. Toppings and Additions: Definitely more toppings than Blockheads, but are they better?! I tried their Rice Balls, Taro, Pudding, and Oreo. Their Rice Balls were just amazing - sweet and chewy. The pudding was lacking a little flavor and the taro was a little chunky. Pros: The shaved snow is fantastic. And they one upped Class 302 in that they have so many flavors. Cons: It's kind of pricey in that one cup is $4.31 for a small. At Class 302 a serving is like the price of two smalls and you can split that probably 4 ways. And you get more toppings. There is a 10 dollar minimum on card so my friend and I opted to join together to pay with one card. I got a small strawberry with mochi. I enjoyed how you can see them make the shaved ice right in front of you and the portions were reasonable for the pricing. Another new place in town! This place is decent. I liked their fine shaved snow. They can serve you different flavored snows, or just the original. For a medium, you may pick the flavor of snow, and three toppings. We got grass jelly, egg pudding, and strawberry. Along with the shaved ice, they give you a bottle of condense milk to use as a topping. It's unlimited! I assume this is their business philosophy is to give the customers a bottle to use on their own. Really, it's not that expensive... and I don't understand why other places are so stingy about their sweet milk. The Very Berry smoothie is a mixture of all the berries you could think of. This is going to be my new go to spot to get snow ice when I come to Cali. The snow ice is so delicious. I paid 6 bucks for a medium and it was pretty large. The Thai tea was so sweet and refreshing. The rice balls were chewy and bouncy. The pudding was soft and sweet. The condensed milk added a fatty texture. The only problem I had with this place was the cashier took the money and then placed gloves on only one of her hands.Then she used the hand without the gloves to place the snow ice block on the snow ice shaver. I believe I paid $4.31 for a small. There are tons of options for what kind of shave snow flavor you want. I ended up going with almond. I like their almond a lot. You can really taste the flavor in it. Next you can choose a type of sauce. I went with the condensed milk. Can't go wrong with that sugary goodness. And lastly for the small you can choose two toppings. I got egg pudding and rice balls. Everything was soo good! They have tons of toppings and they fill it to the top. I will be back! Kinda inconsistent on how much they fill your cup. I asked for a medium (their largest size) and it was filled up to the top (flat). I got two flavors - sesame and coffee. Black sesame was pretty good! coffee wasn't sweet enough, but really strong. The cup I got was flat filled to the top. Other people had similar experience when I looked around, some were filled past the top, stacked with their toppings, where others were stacked with their toppings not even meeting the top. I was one of those barely meeting the top. If you're going to compete with fluff ice or other similar places, you have to be a bit more consistent in your serving size! read more

The fluffiest shaved snow I've ever had! Texture was so airy and melt-in-your-mouth. Got the thai tea flavor with mochi and egg pudding toppings and condensed milk drizzle. The shaved snow tasted EXACTLY like thai tea, which was good! The toppings went great with the snow. My only wish is I got the "rice balls," which is basically giant mochi. I don't think thai tea is a common flavor at other shaved snow places, so I'd definitely come back here for that. This place is also a better deal in terms of price because two toppings are included in the base price...you heard right, not one, but TWO. read more
