Welcome to my favorite salon. I started coming here a few years ago and wasn't sure what I was getting into. I had always done simple cuts and no color. But, I wanted to try something new. Katie immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable. She both listens to what I want and advises me. Because of my history (look, I went to Great Clips and similar in the past), we have always taken a path of conservative exploration. Here, I adopted a shorter style, added highlights, and even explored a little purple once! And I am a customer for life. I "cheated" on her and got what was supposed to be a simple trim elsewhere. It was terrible, but Katie worked for months, as my hair grew, fixing that mistake. I told Katie I want styles and colors that don't need monthly maintenance and I am delighted with the results. Today I paid $165 for cut and color. It took about 3 hours and was filled with conversation. My impressions: The salon has large windows and is bright with high ceilings. There is water and tea at there front. It smells like a salon but isn't overpowering. It doesn't activate my allergies and I get headaches from walking down the cleaning aisle at the supermarket! The music is contemporary but accessible (Budapest by George Ezra and Take Me To Church by Hozier played today). The chairs are comfortable - I am plus size and fit nicely. This is an excellent salon that is welcoming, listens to what YOU want, advises you if you need it, and does GREAT WORK. read more

Salon Annora is a welcoming, friendly, fun environment where everyone is always smiling and laughing. On top of that, Katy is literally THE best hairstylist I have ever had! I have naturally curly hair but it's also very fine. Katy was able to bring my curls back to life and give me the volume I've always wanted! She does such a wonderful job listening to exactly what I want without compromising what would be best for my hair. I am surprised to see so few reviews for this place, given my great experience. I was ready for a change and saw Coreene Collins for color and a haircut. It was such a great experience from start to finish. I had seen a previous stylist for a consultation who was so negative about my hair I actually walked out and left in tears, so I was definitely apprehensive! The length of this review is a clue about how obnoxiously vain I am about my hair: PERSONALITY Coreene is what I call "Minnesota Nice" even though she's not from MN :). Her demeanor is very welcoming and she's a good listener. She picks up on your concerns and actively explores them. Hey, a haircut with a complementary therapy session is always a plus! She's easy to talk to (and I don't like small talk generally). She reflected that I sounded like I wanted a big change and made recommendations to bring out my eyes and beauty. I already like her! CUT My hair was full on the top and shaggy on the bottom due to heat damage and bad layers. I wanted a "Lob" with a side bang. I lost confidence in the side bang once I started thinking about a horrible haircut I had when I was 13 that actually made my face look wider (something I didn't think possible). Coreene totally picked up on that and did a slight bang cut and we stopped there. I love the fullness of my hair now and I've gotten many compliments! It's nice to have my hair back to its full luster. COLOR Oh, this is equally good! She took me a shade darker and was entirely right that it brings out my eyes. She added copper highlights, a fun change for this time of year. She recommended a deep conditioner that's added to the color and repairs/protects your hair from damage. I just got my hair done at Salon Annora and I couldn't be happier. My hair is flat, straight and there isn't much of it, so I never expected too much from stylists, but Katy makes me look like I actually have hair...with body! And she gives me a natural-looking warm color that I love. Katy gives me great advice about my hair, what might work and what probably won't, and she is always open to my (sometimes hair-brained) suggestions. I've been searching for years for someone who can cut curly hair. I decided to take a chance on Katy at Salon Annora and I'm so glad I did! Not only does Katy actually listen to what you say, she is very knowledgeable about hair and haircolor. She will explain why your hair is the way it is and how to combat it. No longer do I have the dreaded curly girl "mushroom" or "triangle" cut. My curls are bouncy and on their way to being more healthy. She added layers and very natural highlights that I love! I have been going to Coreene Collins for my haircuts and color for around 2 years. She is always super friendly and professional and does a great job! I drive about 40 minutes each way to see her because she's totally worth the trip! Last month I came in after not seeing her for quite a long time (thanks Covid) and got my hair cut and colored. I did a balayage which is what I've done in the past. Because of the restrictions due to the pandemic in place at the time she didn't dry or style my hair so I didn't really see the color until I was driving home. While the technique was beautiful, it was much lighter than I'd hoped for. I contacted Coreene and she responded quickly and professionally. She not only helped me to achieve the look I was going for but also offered me a few products to help my hair handle the stress we were putting on it by coloring it again. I am pleased with the end result and was more than happy with how Coreene handled everything. I will continue to happily be a client of hers and recommend her to anyone looking for someone who takes great pride in her work. read more

I went to Sandy Hankins for full highlights and she left my hair green and orange with three chemical burns and very uneven roots. She also over processed my hair resulting in a lot of breakage and gummy texture. After being color corrected by a different stylist (at Platform Artistic Salon) I asked Sandy for a refund in hopes of covering the color correction costs. She refused and blamed the uneven coloring and burns on me, claiming I should've told her about my "sensitive skin" beforehand. In response to the uneven coloring she kept restating how "she told me beforehand that I won't be able to go fully blonde from one appointment." I was totally fine with that but wasn't expecting to leave with green and orange hair. She came across very knowledgeable and competent during our two consultations, but after seeing not only what she did to my hair but also her response to the situation I don't believe that to be the case. read more

I live in Corvallis, Oregon, and started seeing Katy Cowell when she worked in Corvallis. I now drive an hour and a half to Portland to see Katy at Salon Annora. It is well worth the drive as there is no one who can cut and color hair like Katy. She is an artist. I get compliments often on my hair color and style, and I always reply that I just let Katy do her thing. She took my disaster mop hair (result of a former stylist) and shaped it over months to get it to what is perfect for my personality and lifestyle. This is a new salon opened by one of the previous owners of Bliss, Sabrina. I loved her at Bliss, and I love her even more at Primp. Let me start out by saying I had a hideous highlight job at Bliss and went to Sabrina at Primp as soon as I could to get it fixed. She is AMAZING. First off she got me in ASAP, completely on my timeline. Then she fixed my 3wk old highlights that were an inch from my scalp with some fresh color and lowlights to blend everything in. Completely thorough, fun to talk to, very informative. At the end I wanted to give her a hug for saving me from more than slight discomfort about wearing my hair up.. or down.. or having hair at all. The salon has huge windows on 2 sides, lots of light. It's clean, nicely decorated and a relaxing atmosphere with real professionals. I highly recommend Primp to anyone who cares about good color and fabulous all around 'do's. read more

I've had a really hard time finding a salon I like in Portland. I've repeatedly paid $200, I'd sit for as long as 4 hours and I'd never leave with what I asked for. Today, Monica did my hair. She did exactly what I asked and she did it in a reasonable amount of time without an astronomical bill at the end. I would highly recommend Monica to do your hair. Summer Rekdahl is a highly skilled, very patient, and friendly stylist. She has been cutting and coloring my hair for over a decade. My loyalty is because she works with me to achieve what I want while always making sure we are taking care of the health of my hair. I went to Primp Hair Salon to meet bridal stylist and makeup artist Coreene Collins for special occasion makeup and hairstyling for my bridal shower (09/23/17). Coreene did not disappoint and even met me before her normal hours to accommodate the timing of my bridal shower. I asked for slightly more dramatic makeup and a Bridget Bardot inspired half-up bouffant. In less than 90 minutes, I walked out feeling quite lovely for my special occasion. I really appreciated how thoughtful she was in asking my color preferences during the process. My favorite thing was the hairstyle she ended up styling for me. No Show. No good. You don't leave your clients standing on Division with the salon doors locked. Not even a call or email to apologize - especially being that you are the owner! A prior 10 minute late ding was one thing but this puts an end to the relationship. When people have appointments they arrange child care, they count on their hair to be done for upcoming events (i.e. wedding) and above all there are lots of people in the salon industry waiting to please & get new clients so carelessness is going to be your demise. 4 words: New Vintage Beauty Lounge Okay 2 more words: They Rock! read more

I tried, I really did, to get on board with Primp. I'm new to the area and was so excited about a Groupon for a cut and color in my neighborhood, so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to explore and support a local spot. Had it been a good experience, I would be a loyal customer. Unfortunately from the moment I walked in the door there was a sense that the stylist was overwhelmed and was maybe having a bad day...or a bad year? I showed him two pictures of hair that was inspiring to me. I came in for a very simple blond highlight with some lowlights (I'm a natural blond, this isn't hard.) Two and a half hours later. what I got was mousy grey-brown hair with sad light grey streaks. There was dye all over my scalp that I had to wash off myself. I actually went home and cried. Rode my bike back and for the first time in my entire life of getting highlights, I said, "I'm not happy." He wasn't mean, but he wasn't really interested in troubleshooting either. He gave me some toner to "take down the ash [GREY]" -- I went home with that, put it on, and MY HAIR TURNED ALL GREY. All the light grey went into a non-color. I went back the next day and actually tipped another $10 cash because I felt bad I had to sit in his chair again while he "fixed" my hair. I showed him more photos of pretty blond highlights, and I got more sad light ashy streaks over sad mousy grey brown hair. I went to another salon today for an eyebrow wax and the stylist actually gasped when I took my hat off. I wish I could get my money back. Worst hair experience ever. Not sure if he's just new to doing hair, if he mixed the formulas wrong, or is just very untalented. But I won't be back. Oh, and my hair is all damaged now and I'll just wear a hat until I can have it corrected again...at a different salon. :((( read more

Okay, this time I've found it. Or, I think I've found it. For now. maybe. hmm... Hair salons carry so much drama. And I'm actually gonna try to be really diplomatic here, and allow folks to read between the lines (and my previous review) if they want a bit more. For now, I'm trying to curb my snark a bit (don't worry, it'll be back tomorrow) because my previous stylist wasn't to blame for my wandering. First off, I am a fickle, fickle monkey when it comes to hair. And I had pretty good luck with a place in SE for awhile, and then a disastrous experience (with the shop owner, not the stylist) made me leave. And I wandered, in the damp, chilly (frizzy) landscape of Portland beauty. I tried a couple of places. One shot deals. Not the kind of things you wanna share with friends, so I didn't review. Took my walk(s) of shame and didn't call back. And then I went to Primp. It's two blocks from my house, and cute as a bug. Sabrina (the owner) is fantastic. I've been twice, once for color (fab) and a week later for a cut (she totally fixed a hella mess created by one of those "rebound" salons I hit during my single period.) Gawd I feel dirty. So, Primp, I'm shyly asking, with y'know, no pressure or anything, and no promise of what the future may hold... wanna go steady? read more

I had to wait a few minutes to get started on my appointment. I went for a cut and color. It was slated to be a 1.5 hour job and I had to get to work right after. I ended up being late which wasn't really a problem in my case but you should know a cut/color takes more than 1.5 hour. At the 1.5 hour mark, we were just starting on my cut. Looking back over two weeks: the price was okay but a little expensive for maintenance/upkeep. $150 for two tone highlights and a cut. And I bought a shampoo for ~$20. I was given no itemized receipt. My hunt for the perfect salon continues. read more

Only giving two stars rather than one because she did at least try to fix it... I went in to get my grown out pixie redone, gave stylist Lauren pretty standard requests, one including keeping the nape of the neck pretty short to avoid mullet territory but otherwise letting the rest be the normal pixie floof on the back of the crown. When she showed me the back, which was buzzed halfway up my head, I asked what that was all about - to which she responded that she gave me an undercut. I have no idea how she interpreted that I wanted an undercut, but I do know she never said anything about it (something you should really, really do if you're giving a surprise undercut). Seeing that there wasn't much to help the situation I just asked her to blend what I did have left into my buzz cut. Now I have a near bald spot (sparse hair in places get really shown off when buzzed) and a badly blended, severely short back of a pixie. read more

Beth is a goddess among stylists. After living in portland for almost 5 years, i have FINALLY found a stylist i believe in. On a recommendation, i went to Primp for Beth, after a catastrophe of a haircut done at an Aveda salon downtown. The girl there literally chopped out chunks of my hair when i told her i wanted a razored shag. Beth took one look at my hair, asked me some questions about what i wanted to convey with my look, and went to town. Her hair washing skills made me feel like i was at a spa, with a luxuriating scalp massage with finely scented shampoo/conditioner. She asked me every step of the way if i was comfortable with the cut, and anytime a larger length of hair was up for debate, she checked in. I have to say, Beth's skills pay the bills. Her ability to frame your face with a cut that matches your personality cannot be beat. I am a customer for life! Usually i feel awkward having small talk with a stylist, but she never makes you feel like she's bored if you're feeling quiet, and she always is engaging when you feel chatty. I never felt judged when asking what i want, even though it was basically a fashion mullet. At $40 for a cut i love, i am pleased as punch. read more

I'm not a hair person. I don't blow-dry, dye, or own a single product. At some salons, this a problem. Despite my protests that I really, really won't do anything other than comb my hair after a shower, for years I got cuts that stylists swore would look great.... if I would only do the proper styling. Fortunately for me, there's Beth. I generally have no idea what I want done to my hair and she's always been able to come up with something cute, stylish, and fuss-free. Plus she gives free bang-trims in between cuts (and won't make fun if you had a moment of insanity and tried to cut them yourself, with horrible results). I recommend Beth to all of my friends and will never get my hair cut by anyone else! read more

For years, my haircuts came from SuperCuts, if I got them at all. My hair lived in a knot at the back of my head. It was just easier that way. Then, last summer, I realized how much shampoo I was wasting, washing all that hair that no one was ever going to see anyway, and I decided to cut it all off. Beth was fabulous. She listened carefully to my requirements (kinda short, nothing that will need product or even a blowdryer to look good). Then she gave me a nice, easy, wash-and-wear cut that I enjoyed all summer. I've been back twice, once to see Beth again and once to see Sabrina (Beth was all booked up). They've messed with the style a little bit each time. Now I've got bangs, and I even dry my hair occasionally! Every time I come out of Primp, I'm happier than the time before. I don't know about the other stylists, but I highly recommend both Beth and Sabrina. They're nice folks, and good at what they do. read more

Here's a review you should read if you're NOT in P-town but looking for love (hair love, that is). I live in the boonies. Beyond the burbs. No where close to downtown P-town. In fact, I drove 70 minutes one way in nasty traffic, I-205 car snarls, and Division St. road ragers to get to Primp and Sabrina. And I'll do it again. BTW, I found Sabrina through internet research. It was well worth that drive to see someone who knows hair, color, and is honest about advice. Sabrina sold me when she blatantly said (after seeing my color fiasco), "You probably won't leave here today LOVING your hair, but you won't hate it anymore. Fixing your problem will be a work in progress." (BTW, Sab, you were wrong...I LOVE MY HAIR. I'm pretty sure 'work in progress' was achieved in one visit. But you're now stuck with this new client for good.) I waited several days to write this, waiting to see if the afterglow wore off. It hasn't. Sabrina's the only stylist I've seen in more than 30 years (yes, I'm a 50 year old in the body of a 17 year old goddess) who didn't need to be told the gorey details of what my hair does on its own. This girl just flat knows her stuff. And she didn't poke fun at me. Well, maybe just a little....you shoulda seen me, even I poked fun at me. So, all you burb-ites and boonie babes (like me), make a morning of it (or afternoon, or evening...she's great with working around your schedule), take a girlfriend or two and go to Primp. Yesterday I had my first experience at Primp. The wonderfully talented stylist Beth has been doing my hair for years and I am so very glad to see her at this lovely little salon. The salon decor is in between industrial and girly, and the space is wide open despite the stations being very cozy. It's very easy to hold a conversation with my stylist (who is a delightful conversationalist!) and feel like we're just gabbing over coffee. Now the hair is something I don't believe I could properly explain in words! Most of the time, I will come to Beth with only a vague idea of what I want and give her mostly free-reign, and I always walk away with wonderful results! You know that sensation of knowing what you want, but not being able to describe it? I am convinced Beth has some sixth sense that allows her to pick around in your brain and put your ideas into something cohesive, beautiful, and current. On the other end, the times I've come in with a photo and said, "I want this," I have been delighted with the results. Her knack for picking the right color every time is also amazing. If you're looking for a stylist with an imagination and the talent to execute exactly what you want, go see Beth at Primp! She's been my best kept secret for so long, but I'm glad to share her with the world now. *** I've been back to Primp three times now to see Beth. Sabrina Towner ROCKS! I moved to Lake Oswego 5 years ago leaving my stylist of over 10 years. I was in an absolute panic! I had asked friends and ended up with the worst cut and color I had ever received at another salon. I didn't want to leave my house to get the mail it was so bad. A friend recommended Sabrina very highly and what did I have to lose. There was no way it could get worse. Fast forward 5 years and I'm still a regular client of Sabrina's. She is amazing at what she does. She saved me from continued humiliation with that awful cut/color and has done magical things with my hair. I get complimented almost daily. She listens to what my wants and needs are and translates them into beautiful work. She is a creative stylist with years of experience and I trust her implicitly with my hair. I have been going to primp for a few years now, and Sabrina does my hair. Typically I get a cut and two color job. Sabrina has always been consistent, quick and left me feeling like a beauty queen by the time I left. We are done by the scheduled end time and she has always started with me right when I get in the salon. She does such a good job that when my hair gets all grown out it still is super cute and I still get compliments on it from strangers. She got it right. I've carried the same photo of the same hairstyle to salons for a decade. The style always turned out nice, but it never quite reached the cut in the photo. Every time, I was told my hair could easily do this style. Every time, it came out a different shape. Then I went to Lauren. I'd left my hair to grow out for six months, practically given up on the perky blonde girl in the picture that I'd saved for so long. And that night, I was both late and desperate for a haircut before a big event. Lauren took a look at the photo. She looked over my hair. I didn't even go into my long tale of woe and yet, somehow, she immediately guessed that other stylists weren't brave enough when cutting my thick hair. She was going to go for it. I was tired and agreed that she should. When she was done, I couldn't believe it. She'd gotten it right! The bangs, the rounded shape, the little twirly bits near the chin. It was perfect! As she worked, she showed me a method for styling my hair that my poor clueless self could follow. It's been a month and I can still get the results I want, every time.
