We seemed to be on the same page. I arrived for my apt and Ann very through address my concerns and spending 1/2 hr with me to go over exactly what I wanted. At the end of 1/2 hour, Ann reiterated what I wanted 3x. I wanted greys grow out naturally. My hair is a dark ash brown, but I needed a correction on the bottom half of my hair from other stylists trying to add dark ash brown that always turn auburn. Ann did let me know that this is natural when adding dark ash brown, it will eventually turn red. During our consult, I was also very clear that I did not want additional color added to my hair because I was growing everything out to embrace my grey. I'm sitting in her chair, all of a sudden, all my hair is in foils. this is not what I wanted, but I was trusting myself to the professional of 20 years. When I left the salon and got home, my hair was red. I contacted her with pictures, not once did she owe up to the mess I had. She said she would like to make it right, but in the same text was fine if I went to someone else. Her idea of fixing it was to refund my money, which she should have, then to leave me high and dry. I was informed by Ann to never contact her again because apparently I was not kind in my delivery of how angry and frustrated I was. I do not write reviews, but I am HAPPY TO WRITE THIS ONE.

Kayla really takes the time to listen to me about how I want my hair to look - color, cut, everything. I've gone from a girl who only wore her hair in a ponytail or braids to keeping it unbound. I've gotten so many compliments and I just love the cut -- I can wear it straightened and curly and it looks just as good both ways. She responded very quickly to my message quickly when I expressed dissatisfaction with my hair afterward, and offered to redo the color but I'd rather wait for my hair to grow out as it's several inches too short and already has layers of color in it. I arrived at 11am for an appointment that my confirmation said would last until 1:30pm and we didn't finish until 4pm. She did my cut first and then did the baby lights- they added nice color and dimension to the hair as desired. But she then did my roots and combed the color through. While my color was processing, someone arrived for a haircut and had their haircut done while my color sat. Around 45 minutes later, my color was washed out and was darker than I expected- most of the baby lights were no longer visible. She mentioned the color will fade to be lighter as expected, but the result was surprising. I also asked for 2 inches or so to be cut, and mentioned I wanted to be able to put my hair in a ponytail still. When facing the mirror, the length was going great and she showed me it could still go in a ponytail. When turned around, I lost several inches for some reason and there was no going back. She took off even more in the back, and I left unable to put my hair in a ponytail. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication and she thought I wanted the grow out to be able to be in a ponytail, but I don't think so since she initially showed me she could put it in a ponytail. By 4pm I was tired and hungry and ready to get home- she asked if I wanted to see the hair blown out and styled which I did but just wasn't up for given the 5 hours I'd been there so I said no. There was also another person waiting for their 4pm appointment to start. When I did straighten it at home, I was surprised by my hair. I've gotten cuts that suit curly hair on many occasions and have always been able to wear the cuts straight too. This cut when straight appears uneven and choppy. The transition to the short back is awkward. She'd mentioned that at the end she'd go through and do any evening, cutting of long pieces etc needed but by then, as I'd mentioned, someone had shown up for another appointment at 4 and no additional cutting was done. I'm not sure if it was an off day, if my hair just took a few hours longer than expected or if she typically stacks appointments but things seemed rushed between the clients. I've never had someone try to do a whole haircut while dye sits on and I felt like my dye was likely left on too long due to it which resulted in the darker hair and missing baby lights. I've included pictures of my hair before the appointment length wise, what I asked for, and what I got. Given the many positive reviews, I'd say this could be chalked up to an off experience but given the starkly different results I thought it was worth sharing.

Katie immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable. She both listens to what I want and advises me. Because of my history (look, I went to Great Clips and similar in the past), we have always taken a path of conservative exploration. Here, I adopted a shorter style, added highlights, and even explored a little purple once! And I am a customer for life. I "cheated" on her and got what was supposed to be a simple trim elsewhere. It was terrible, but Katie worked for months, as my hair grew, fixing that mistake. I told Katie I want styles and colors that don't need monthly maintenance and I am delighted with the results. Today I paid $165 for cut and color. It took about 3 hours and was filled with conversation. My impressions: The salon has large windows and is bright with high ceilings. There is water and tea at there front. It smells like a salon but isn't overpowering. It doesn't activate my allergies and I get headaches from walking down the cleaning aisle at the supermarket! The music is contemporary but accessible (Budapest by George Ezra and Take Me To Church by Hozier played today). The chairs are comfortable - I am plus size and fit nicely. This is an excellent salon that is welcoming, listens to what YOU want, advises you if you need it, and does GREAT WORK.

I got my haircut by Ester, who I was thrilled with last time. Since last June I haven't had anyone touch my hair, so Ester had a lot to work with! She greeted me immediately and offered me something to drink. I appreciate how friendly she was and how she really listened to what I was looking to do with my hair (which was to chop most of it off)! Her warm demeanor made me feel so comfortable. Her joyful attitude and great sense of humor made me really special. plus, my hair looks pretty amazing! I'd gone to Lee because I usually like a salon who's experienced with Asian hair chemistry, but my hair looks worse after the cut. I so wanted to support a small, woman-owned business. The only reason she didn't get a one star is because she also cut my husband's hair and his looks okay. Not fantastic, since the sides aren't blended very evenly (you can see the line instead of an even gradation) but it's passable. Mine however is disastrous. I'd grown it out for 3 months but now I have to start over. Her prices are not as cheap as they seem at first glance. For short hair, she charges $24. For mine (just below shoulder) she charged $30. This is without any washing/shampooing or styling. At the end of my haircut she must've seen my dismay so she became defensive saying "the HAIRCUT is good. Now it's up to YOU to style it to make it look like the photo." Of course styling plays a role, but even after going home to wash and blow dry it myself twice now, I still look... like a mushroom. Honestly, I'm devastated, but I suppose receiving a less than ideal haircut is a rite of passage for moving into a new city.
