You cannot go wrong hiring Salon Gatto for your wedding day! It was one of the best decisions I made!! Amelia is incredibly easy to work with and so accommodating. Princessa was supposed to do my hair (she is amazing!) but when she was injured last minute and would no longer be able to do it, Piera stepped in and totally knocked it out of the park! She even squeezed me in for a trial the day before because of the last minute circumstances. I was and am still blown away about how much she brought my dream of how I would look on this day to life! My hair was colored by another stylist at another salon and I was horrified. I forever will always get my hair done by Amanda. I never left the salon unhappy with the color style and/or cut :) i entered the salon the with very brassy old blonde in my hair and she turned it into a beautiful looking cooler well blended blonde highlights. Also having naturally dark hair Amanda makes it a low maintenance upkeep for me, so i can stretch out my visits and let the roots show a bit without being horribly noticeable. I am so happy that I can echo the fabulous reviews for this salon. I actually ended up here after receiving a horrible haircut! I was so upset so I called trying to get an emergency appointment, Greg was so sympathetic to my situation and booked me an appointment with Kodumu. He is truly a godsend. I didn't think my situation could really be fixed, so my expectations were low, as it was already such a mess and way too short. Obviously the only way to fix it is to cut more off but Kodumu assured me the whole time we were going to work on it together! He really took time to hear me out and understood exactly what I needed to happen to feel better. So thankful I came here, and will now make this my new salon. On top of the wonderful service by all of the staff, it's a really lovely place - clean, sleek. They offer you a choice of beverage on arrival, which just makes the experience completely top notch. Overpriced. Not worth it! I went for a simple haircut for my shoulder length hair and the stylist did a decent job adding some layers and cutting a few inches of length. Though I was not overwhelmed by the result, I thought it was decent. The shock came when I checked out and saw a $90 charge on my bill (service fee/tip not included of course) ! Their website mentions a $65-$110 service fee for women's haircut, and my hair being short and the cut being pretty basic, I definitely wasn't expecting that kind of a charge. I could easily get the same haircut at any other salon for half the price! I understand they are at a prime location in Hoboken, but that's not enough to make me feel good for having to over pay. read more

I was looking for a new salon that's close to where I commute for work and Salon Gatto came up which is very conveniently located right across the street from the Hoboken PATH station. Turns out my coworker had also been here and highly recommended it, so I decided to book an appointment for a haircut. First off, the receptionist was probably one of the most friendliest receptionists I've ever interacted with, she was so calm and warm and immediately put me in a good mood! Then when I came in for my appointment, I was greeted and then I met with my stylist Stephanie who was also so nice! She asked me so many questions about what I was looking to do and walked me through every step of what she was envisioning and she was so spot on with what I was hoping to do. I was shampoo'd by Alexis who did an awesome job. The hot towel + shoulder massage really made me give this place 5 stars, not to mention the vibe in that place is so young and fresh. I found Salon Gatto in a frenzy a few years ago after a horrendous highlight job by another north jersey salon that made me feel like I was just a head of hair on an assembly line whenever I came in- someone would formulate, someone else would paint, another would wash, a fourth would cut, and another would style. It was exhausting and impersonal. I was in a full on meltdown when I called Salon Gatto the first time hoping literally anyone could squeeze me in for a color correction and rebuild my broken salon-going spirit. Needless to say, Salon Gatto has exceeded my expectations in every possible way. The then receptionist, Greg, totally talked me off the ledge and paired me with Amanda who I've been with since that first correction- of course she is insanely talented with dye and shears, but she also manages expectations when I come in looking like Blaire and wanting to leave looking like Serena, finding a way to maintain your hair's integrity while also carving out a path to get you where you want to be and serving up a great look each step of the way. Seriously though, I've been stopped on the street several times and asked where I get my hair done, she is a miracle worker. And it's always a very intimate experience, as I think it should be. At most two people will work on me: Amanda and one of the style pros, all of whom are honestly wonderful and super knowledgable. I never feel rushed nor leave unsatisfied. I have always dreaded getting my haircut. I have thin hair (like the actual follicles) but I have a lot of it, so you can see every single cut in my hair, making it very hard to look blended. As a result, I just usually let my hair grow out without cutting it until the last minute which makes it lose its body and shape. I finally decided to come to Salon Gatto to get a trim in the hopes of finding somewhere I could regularly get my hair cut. From start to finish, I was impressed more and more with the service and the quality of this salon. It was snowing as I was driving to the appointment and as a result I arrived half an hour late. I was so stressed and worried I was going to lose the appointment. They reassured me on the phone saying we could see what the time looks like when I get there (which is already amazing because they could have just told me I was too late and would have to reschedule). Having worked in the service industry, I recognize that this was extremely flexible and kind on their part. In they end they fit me in. Monique cut my hair and took time to ask me about how I style it, why I haven't liked my cuts in the past and helped me figure out what would be the best way to go with my hair. This is truly one of the best salons I have ever been to. Kodomu did my ballyage and it dint quite come out the way i wanted it to be which happens but he had me come in for a redo soon despite his busy schedule and worked on my hair for almost five hours. He is patient and listened to everything I had to say and worked on it to make sure I walked out happy. The salon closed but he attended to me until it was completely done. He displayed the highest degree of professionalism and he dint even accept a tip from me for the redo. I have been to many salons in the city and sometimes stylists are rude if you ask them for a redo. Kodomu was extremely patient with me and took as long as it took to make it better. I highly recommend this salon! I am somewhat new to the Hoboken area and wanted to find a stylist that was close by. I've tried other salons in NYC and they were nice but overpriced. This salon is a little on the higher side but WORTH IT as it is really nice and their products are all high end! The service is amazing, and Kodumu was well worth the wait! He really listened to what I wanted (I have really long hair and wanted to keep the length) and let me look at my hair length and layers to make sure I was happy. Randi for president! This place is wonderful and just what I have been looking for. Randi does an amazing job with my color and cuts. I have brown hair with blonde highlights and she does blonde like no one else! I also recently tried tape-in extensions for my upcoming wedding and I am absolutely in love! I am always so nervous to try new things with my hair and she walked me through the entire process from start to finish in so much detail. She's patient and friendly and you'll have a blast sitting in the chair with her while she makes you feel like a new person! I moved out of Hoboken several months ago thinking I would eventually find a salon in my new town but I just don't have it in me to leave this place! Only amazing things to say about this place ! From the moment you walk in the receptionist is so welcoming and there's always a great smelling candle lit! The decor is so cute, and it definitely helps that they have specialty coffee drinks and wine ! (I always opt for an almond milk cappuccino or a glass of rose!) So here is an update. The owner of the salon reached out to me and offered to help me with redoing the color. I told her I had already redone my color at another salon. And that I needed few wash and blow sessions this week as I had just tattooed my brows and can't wash my hair myself. She was very accommodating and offered me two sessions to help me out. So for the customer service I am updating the review to 5 stars. I think the miscommunication earlier was very unfortunate and probably due to the stylist being rushed for time as she another client scheduled right after me. Still I will be willing to give this salon a try in future now that I feel confident the owner is committed to making clients happy. I recently came here to touch up my roots from a bayalage done at Mark Garrison last summer. I still had a lot of the color blended in at the ends and the roots just needed more of a lift. So after reading all the wonderful reviews of this salon, I decided to try it out since I live in jersey city. Unfortunately I must say I was disappointed. For 150 plus tip, I paid $180 and I really couldn't see any of the color showing up. I feel like the stylist did do a touch up bayalage on my roots. But after finishing, she was in such a rush and went straight to blow dry without asking me if the color was fine with me. The blowout was amazing but I must say i was disappointed because all I had was some shine around my roots. But no color to blend in with the rest of my hair color from the previous bayalage. I decided to try Salon Gatto as I wasn't fully satisfied with the salon I've been using for the past 4 years and saw it that it had great reviews. I just got back from my haircut, and I've got to say, this had to be the best haircut experience I've had in my life! The experience was amazing, from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out. The staff was amazing - I was greeted when I first came in and even had my jacket hung for me. They even offered complementary drinks (outside of the usual keurig coffee and water). During the shampoo, they used a warm towel for my neck and even massaged my scalp and back! My stylist Stephanie was amazing! She was really nice and down to earth. She really listened about what I had to say about my hair, and even though I only got a trim, I came out feeling fabulous. She gave my hair the shape it's been missing for the past couple of years. I also have thick and long hair and not once did she sigh or seem annoyed with it (which, believe it or not, I would usually get so many times before by other salons!). Today was my first time at Salon Gatto. I went to this salon because of the excellent Yelp reviews. I did not know who to see as it seems every stylist/colorist is superior so I just "threw the dart" and chose Princessa. I had to wait a while before she was available and today was the day! Just walking in the salon I knew this was exactly what I was looking for. Stephanie (receptionist) greeted me with a beautiful smile and warmly welcomed me. After filling out a hilarious form ie. "what do you prefer to drink but we know you like booze". After filling it out I was handed a beverage menu. Yes, you read that correctly! Teas (hot or cold); cappuccino; espresso; an assortment of flavored water (watermelon); ice coffee flavors (hazelnut I chose); wine (red, white) and the vineyards name are listed; an assortment of beers. I'm probably forgetting other beverages but I was in awe. Your drink is served in a beautiful glass on top of a napkin sitting on a small wooden tray. Then I met Princessa. A true professional, experienced in cut and color. We discussed what I wanted to achieve and she delivered 100%. Princessa's assistant was very pleasant and just plain sweet. When in the wash station you are given a warm towel that is placed around your neck. Washing includes a fabulous head massage. Then a hot towel was put on my forehead and top of head and down my neck - another massage too. Then the finale..... a neck, shoulder, top of back massage which they call a "de-stress massage". Can you believe it? My hair was colored a light blonde and had a cut that can not be matched by the top name salon I went to for 6 years in NYC. I have to admit I was happy with my hair before I went to Princessa (I decided Salon Gatto because of location) but I am positively ecstatic with my new results. Location cannot be beat as it is directly across the small street from the Hoboken Terminal and Path train. So New Yorkers come to Hoboken and get a great job and save a little $$$$. This rating is for Amanda. A fine artist who has been with me for two years now. Our relationship began when she saved my hair and talked me out of shaving it. If you are looking for a new hairdresser then I highly recommend Amanda (which I have to many of my friends) and here is why. 1. She listens to you (like truly listens). She hears what you don't like and what you do. While some hairdressers don't as much. 2. She talks you through what she is going to do before she begins. Here is what I love about her. She takes you through the process in open conversation where you can ask questions or change your mind. 3. Show her a photo! I always bring her photos and we flip through them. She tells me if it's possible or how close we can get to that today. And she never disappoints! 4. She treats me like I am her best client. While some hairdressers in Hoboken see clients on the regular, I only come in every 3-4 months. However Amanda gives me her undivided attention and has plan before I even arrive. 5. She gives amazing head massages. (Enough said) 6. She understands when I want a change or when I don't. Which makes it easy for me to trust her while being her chair. 7. She saved my hair color! 8. Her service is consistent. Where some hairdressers have their off days, Amanda only gets better. Honestly. 9. She cares. If you ever been to hair dresser that doesn't care, then you get it. It's been 1 year since I last had my hair colored and cut. I was dying to get my hair done when I came across Piera's IG account. I am very hesitant about who I let touch my hair, but I loved her work so much that I gave her a shot. Within 10 minutes of meeting her, I knew she was my new stylist! She's so kind and patient, but most important...she knows what she's doing and she's SO good at it! I shared a few pictures of hair color that I really liked...she listened to me and gave me exactly what I asked for and more! She used a technique that I was unfamiliar with to highlight my hair and it turned out beautiful!
