I have trust issues when it comes to new hairstylists. I have experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly. I mean, I have literally cried over bad haircuts and dye jobs. But after Tuesday this week, my faith has been restored-- all thanks to Quyen! Think I'm overreacting? Keep reading. This salon is busy for a reason. I called in the week before for a balayage & cut, and was penciled in the following Tuesday. Quyen also gave me a courtesy text on Monday to confirm the appointment. Right when I came in for my dye & cut, Quyen was nothing but sweet and welcoming. She asked me about my hair coloring history & notified me about the effects of dying black hair to blonde (orange/brassy). However, she assured me that she would try her best to avoid that and fix any unwanted color. First was the haircut. Holy cow is Quyen detail oriented!!! She takes her time to make sure everything is even and the CORRECT LENGTH you like. Next was the dye job! Though it took a long time , 5 hours to be exact, it was worth the wait and thoroughness. Okay so this review is long overdue, I started coming here a year or so back when Quyen was still doing hair... I was always pretty satisfied.. then after she stopped doing bayalage she started having her co worker take over her bayalage clients. I figured if she's the owner... she must trust her. I did my hair and basically long story short, the top of my hair broke off from over processing. The bleach was left too long .. and they were quite busy that day as well from what I remember. .. the blow dry was awful and frizzy and even after asking her why my hair was standing up top...??? She replied with, "its just baby hair"! ... and tried playing it down. seriously?? Baby hair growing in the middle of the scalp?? .. I think everyone makes mistakes, but what I was most bothered about was the fact that the owner "Q" did not come to take a look..... her co worker told her about it and Q was just dilly dallying avoiding me. I mean she didn't even feel the need to come see what she could do.... or a sorry?!!! as if since it wasn't her that did it, she didn't need to. This is her business! And I was her customer... and to see that she was so disconnected to that fact that her employee had messed up really left me with a different impression of who I thought she was. I left crying and my hair now almost 6 months later is still recovering... I uploaded pictures of what it looked like after initially to how it is now recovering and it still looks awful. Please Quyen, next time treat customers as your own, even if your not the one working on them. This is still your name on it, and at least face them, don't run away and not even apologize. At the end of the day... we all started coming here because of you, because you built up your name and clientele ... don't let mistakes make you start losing them. read more

Chi Quyen is very sweet and meticulous stylist! I came in with coppery golden tone mid-length hair. My hair was severely dry and damaged due to working in chlorine 24/7, prior to meeting with Chi Quyen. She was able to tone down the brassiness beautifully, I am beyond ecstatic! I brought in a picture of brown to silver ombre balayage. Chi Quyen recommended it would take a couple sessions to achieve that desired hair color due to my current hair state. I am understanding that it takes time to go lighter, no worries here. I walked out with a gorgeous long bob and warm brown-light blonde balayage! Quyen is a very skilled eyelash technician. Got my new set of eyelashes 1.5 weeks ago. I love dramatic lashes, so I asked for dramatic. The thicker and longer the better. I have pretty thin lashes, so was thinking that my natural lashes wouldn't hold lashes that were too thick. Well well, Quyen proved me wrong. My lashes look amazing! I have gotten so many compliments from numerous people. After 1.5 weeks the lashes are still holding up well. Still full and dark. After hearing great reviews from my friends and seeing their work on Instagram, I went to Salon Q hoping they would be able to correct my hair and they exceeded my expectations. My hair color was very patchy and in need of an update. Quyen and Tiffany worked their magic and made my hair beautiful again. I had one goal of not having orangey hair and they did an awesome job. Quyen is amazing! When I first came to her a few years ago she spent several hours just doing the color correction. After 20 years of coloring my hair, it was in bad shape. The first year I did highlights, but once I hit the 4-0, my silver haunted me like clockwork every 3 weeks. Being a working mom of 3, I don't have the time for all that upkeep. Quyen recommended the best color where I could maintain just the roots. She told me what color and brand to get so I could maintain it at home in between my appointments with her every other month. It's totally no longer worth it for me to do my own hair! It takes time to get the supplies, major effort to setup, color, wash and cleanup without a kid needing something, plus getting all the greys are always a challenge. Since my last appointment, 3 weeks ago, I decided to make monthly appointments. I'll make the time! I had Thu to do make up on me. It was ugly and old fashioned. I am actually 15 years younger than my age but after she put make up on, I look 10 years older - like a grandma. Besides, she used the cheap foundation and powder that made my skin was rough and rashes after. I got itchy on my head for 3 days too even I washed my hair right after, it was caused by cheap hair volume holder. Price is also an issue. She charged me $100, but the owner, Quyen, said $120, that means the owner got $20 from me for doing nothing while she already shared the cost with Thu. The make up was for my special event photo shots. I thought professional would have done it better but not. I was very regretted to trust this salon and I had no time to remove to do it again myself. Overdue review. I stumbled upon this place in an urgent need for a makeover after my big work deadline. The salon seems to be owned by two sisters. Wendy the younger sister shampooed, cut, and color my hair from a to z. She gave me the best hair wash with some light head massage i've ever had in the U.S. (It's common in Vietnam, but not here. Most places will just do a quick and dirty shampoo). Wendy has a nice and pleasant personality. She took time cutting my hair, using only scissors (i prefer scissors to razors). This review is long overdue but love love love Quyen. She's always super sweet and accommodating and probably the only person who's done my hair and had me walk away happy. This was my third time here (first time being a balayage, second time having my hair toned, and this time balayage again) and she never falls short! Quyen is honestly so patient, as my hair took five hours to do, and she makes sure her clients are attended for. She even took me in on her day off which was super helpful because I was coming down from LA to visit family and wouldn't be back in the area for a couple of months. Anyways, Quyen always makes sure that make hair turns out how I want it to and is informative on what works with my hair and what wouldn't. Horrible experience all together, do not recommend anyone go here. First off I made an appointment 1 month in advance and when I showed up they asked me to wait for over 30 minutes. This has been my go to salon when I get that itch to change my look which happens pretty often. I've had my haircuts here as well as colored and have always been super happy with the results EVERY time I have had a visit here. My most recent visit was to get a haircut after letting my hair grow out from a pixie cut. I hadn't had my haircut in nearly a year so it was all different lengths and had no style to it. I have a tight schedule most days and I was happily surprised when Quyen accommodated me by opening the salon an entire hour early which helped me to be able to be on time to pick up my son from school. That is real customer service. I am always impressed with her professionalism and that she remembers her customers even if it's been some time since I last visited. Quyen is a great hairstylist but the customer service here has been disappointing. The first couple times Quyen has taken care of me and did a great job. The last time I was here, Quyen was booked during the time I wanted to go. She told me her assistants could do my hair and I was hesitant. However, I trusted Quyen and told her so long as my hair would look like how she would have done it I'd let her assistants do my hair. I was desperate to get my hair retouched before a specific date and Quyen promised she would be looking over and guiding the assistants. During the whole process, I could understand everything they were saying and clearly they had no clue what they were doing. Quyen glanced over a couple times and told them to add the toner quickly but the assistants were just not trained to add toner to my hair. I could even hear them saying don't add much color to the back because she won't notice. WTFFFF who says that?!?! I sit there patiently so they can finish my hair because who knows it might turn out good? WRONG. The balayage that I had before was no longer there and my hair turned completely black because they left the toner in for too long... Clearly I'm not happy about this so I tell them my hair is dark now... The assistants told me it's just the lighting and that my hair looks good. Trying to reassure me even though I had voiced my dislike of how my hair turned out. I waited for Quyen to say something because she was standing right next to me but nope. She proceeds to ignore and pretend like she had no clue what was going on. Finally I ask Quyen when her next availability is because I'm not happy with my hair. She tells me she'll look at her apt book and let me know but I told her my event is Tuesday and i needed my hair done ASAP. She ends up taking me to fix my hair by basically dying my head completely since there's no way the balayage will come back. I was running late and figured oh well at least my hair isn't completely black. When I go to pay, she ends up charging me more than usual probably because she had to fix my hair. Why do I have to pay extra for hair that your assistants messed up? There was no sorry, nothing. I was very disappointed with how she handled this and wished she was more remorseful about her assistants messing up my hair. read more

There are a few times in life where one star is appropriate and this is one of them. If you have an important event to attend where you have to be somewhere at a certain time & look good or at least look okay, this is NOT the place to go. I do not give one stars often maybe once every few years if the encounter/service is extremely despicable so look no further for my horror story at this place. I booked appt. because the photos on yelp for them look great & simple, the makeup looks looked glam but not overdone. I liked the aesthetic of the photos both for hair & makeup. My intent was to get the Hollywood glam look that they had on yelp. When calling I spoke to Quyen who said the appointment would be with her sister Wendy who doesn't know how to do 40's finger waves hairstyle but that she's really good regardless and will do another great hair look on me. I said great and booked an appointment for hair & makeup for a family photo shoot on a Saturday. So on Saturday I showed up to my appointment maybe 5 minutes early. No one greeted me but after an awkward minute, someone doing hair asked me if I needed help. I said I had an appt with Wendy & they said to sit down that Wendy would be with me soon. After about 20 minutes I asked the same person when Wendy would see me, that's when a pretty stylist who was doing someone else's style said she would be with me soon, she was Wendy & had been there the whole time! Good customer service would be someone greeting me, once finding out I have an appointment letting me know how long I would be waiting and asking if I'm okay with that. Nope. I waited for 40 minutes!! In those forty minutes I thought about leaving but because at the 20 min mark she said she'd be "right with me" I figured that would be any minute and before you knew it- 40 minutes had passed in the 1 hour and 30 min I allotted for hair & makeup. I sat in the chair with less than an hour left to my appointment. She prepped me with oil of Olay cream including my under eye area and took out brushes and a powder foundation palette from a generic company. She didn't use any primer on my eye lids and set to work. I wasn't facing a mirror at any point of the process- so I couldn't see any of the horror. She used tiny slow brush strokes on my face. I wear makeup daily & have gotten my makeup done professionally a lot and there was no purpose to her strokes. At one point she asked if she could trim my eyebrows. I stupidly said yes because I thought there was a little bit of straggly hairs in my pretty brows so she used brow razors. I stupidly didn't think she was changing my brow shape. She ended up altering the shape of my left brow completely, misshaping and shaving part of the outer third of it including the arch. So with that question "do you mind if I trim your eyebrow" seconds later my eyebrows were permanently changed. She did this on both eyebrows. Goodbye nice eyebrows. She then kept doing these slow strokes on my face & I reminded her of the time and at the hour point I let her know I had to leave in 20 min, she hadn't started on my hair. She was using a blender sponge that she used to rub the Olay on my face, she was using it to apply cream concealer - but it started hurting. We looked at the sponge and there was little needles all over it- well it wasn't needles it was my eye brow hair!! Horrible! She changed to another sponge & started using two different blush colors-both drugstore brands. Again no purpose or order to what she was doing, she was working on fake eyelashes one second, doing concealer, putting the generic face powder foundation with a big brush the next-with random spurts of everything out of order. Since they had me waiting- I was already late to what I scheduled to do in the two hours before my family photo shoot & had to have multiple people be understanding of the situation. So at the ten min mark, I reminded her I had to leave and could possibly return in an hour so she could do my hair. She asked me if I had hair extensions because my hair was so short- my hair is past shoulder length! I said I could possibly bring my extensions in an hour but that I had only a sliver of time since I had a photo shoot to be on time for. She said - ironically -- that she had two appointments during that time but that she would try to fit me in. I then looked at time and realized I had to leave or risk being super late to a ticketed event. I got up, after an hour of makeup & looked in mirror and right away I started crying. She put ghost white powder on me overall, didn't contour anything and had very strong almost kabuki drawn on eyebrows and I saw at that point that the outer third of my eyebrows were almost GONE. She had put super cheap consistency & sticky concealer in my under eye area & it was like 4 shades lighter than my skin and DRY. I have oily skin so how was that possible. They MADE me pay before I left but got it refunded via phone with Quyen immediately after. Horror!! read more

I love this place because the owner and the other workers are so friendly and sweet. I also love this place because their salon is nice and clean. I came in on a Friday and wanted to dye my hair blonde and I've already had some blonde in my hair but I wanted to go lighter. Quyen, the owner, came up to me asked me what I wanted. She asked me questions back and asked me what I wanted to make sure. I like that she's paying attention and knows what I want. She's very sweet and I could tell she's passionate about the work she does. I've just never had such great service and I've never been treated so well. Quyen talks to all her customers whether she's doing the job or not. She always greets everyone who comes through the door and she even makes conversation with you while you're getting your hair done. You can tell she really cares and wants people to know that she cares. I really like feeling comfortable and not like I'm just some number for that day that's going to pay them. Overall, the service was great and I would recommend it to everyone! A lot men actually come in and cut their hair here! My hair came out great. I went lighter and they told me my hair will be a little bit dry. I like that before they did anything they told me the consequences. I know that going lighter especially when you have dark hair will somewhat damage your hair. However, there are ways to take care of it and treat it. I just wish she told me how I could do that or offered me one their treatments in the salon. I've been to another place, a place I always used to go to, and they would always dye my hair and make sure I got the treatment after or tell me to come back and do it because they didn't want my hair to be damaged. That's the only reason why I give them 4 stars because I feel like they do care when you're in the salon but maybe after they won't even recognize me? I don't know. We will have to see. I will go back for a touch up but I'm going to have to do a treatment back at my old salon. I love my hair. I just wish it wasn't dry because my hair has never been dry.
