I love this place because the owner and the other workers are so friendly and sweet. I also love this place because their salon is nice and clean. I came in on a Friday and wanted to dye my hair blonde and I've already had some blonde in my hair but I wanted to go lighter. Quyen, the owner, came up to me asked me what I wanted. She asked me questions back and asked me what I wanted to make sure. I like that she's paying attention and knows what I want. She's very sweet and I could tell she's passionate about the work she does. I've just never had such great service and I've never been treated so well. Quyen talks to all her customers whether she's doing the job or not. She always greets everyone who comes through the door and she even makes conversation with you while you're getting your hair done. You can tell she really cares and wants people to know that she cares. I really like feeling comfortable and not like I'm just some number for that day that's going to pay them. Overall, the service was great and I would recommend it to everyone! A lot men actually come in and cut their hair here! My hair came out great. I went lighter and they told me my hair will be a little bit dry. I like that before they did anything they told me the consequences. I know that going lighter especially when you have dark hair will somewhat damage your hair. However, there are ways to take care of it and treat it. I just wish she told me how I could do that or offered me one their treatments in the salon. I've been to another place, a place I always used to go to, and they would always dye my hair and make sure I got the treatment after or tell me to come back and do it because they didn't want my hair to be damaged. That's the only reason why I give them 4 stars because I feel like they do care when you're in the salon but maybe after they won't even recognize me? I don't know. We will have to see. I will go back for a touch up but I'm going to have to do a treatment back at my old salon. I love my hair. I just wish it wasn't dry because my hair has never been dry. I have been going to Quyen, the owner, for years. I was referred to her several years ago when she worked for another salon. Prior to that, I had usually gone to what used to be Linear Hair in South Coast Plaza, as well as several other local salons. But wasn't really loyal to any one place because I couldn't find anyone who consistently cut my hair well and made me enjoy the experience. I had had a stylist like that years before before, but she had moved out of the area. Anyway, since my first appointment with Quyen, I have never gone anywhere else. And when she moved to open her new place, Salon Q...I moved with her. I was actually so happy that she opened her own salon. The owner of the salon that she worked at previously didn't do as good a good job maintaining the place. But I knew that Quyen ' s new place would look very nice and be kept meticulously clean. She is such a consummate professional. The thing I like most about Quyen is that she is always smiling, always upbeat, always friendly. But that belies the fact that, underneath, she is very serious about what she does. I feel like she knows my hair, and exactly how to cut it so that it will not only look good when I leave, but will continue to look good until my next visit. She is very knowledgeable and attentive to detail. And expertly uses her scissors for the majority of the haircut. Not like the places which use the electric shaver for 80% of the cut so that they can move as many people through as possible. Quyen works quickly, but is also careful to cut and style my hair attractively and precisely. And I always feel great when leaving the appointment. It's an uplifting experience every time, in terms of both the service and the conversation. Quyen is one of those people that makes you wish that every business owner approached their business like she does. She inspires confidence that she will exceed my expectations every time. And her sister Wendy is also an excellent stylist. She's cut my hair a few times when I was in a rush and Quyen was booked for the day. The first couple of times, Quyen gave Wendy some brief instructions about how to care for my hair. .. with good result. Since that time, it hasn't been necessary. Wendy remembers exactly what to do. I guess they share the same genes for great styling. Lol And they certainly both have very pleasing personalities. I wish I could give more stars... but this place is definitely worthy of 5+! This review is for Chi (a Vietnamese honorific used out of respect for someone older like a sister) Quyen of Salon Q. Today, I decided to give a new place a try because I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and chop off my hair. It has been so damaged from a bad dye job, and I needed someone willing to take on the challenge of cutting my hair. All my life, I have been told by people that I shouldn't cut it short because I have a round/chubby face, and it would make me look worse. I decided to give Salon Q a try and made an appointment almost a week in advance with Quyen. When I first stepped into the salon, Chi Quyen was finishing up a cut, and then she greeted me and was ready for me by my appointment time. By the way, the salon is super clean and simple. My type of place. Anyway, my hair reaches to my lower back, and I was contemplating cutting it off to the shoulders. When Chi Quyen asked me what I wanted, I chickened out and said, maybe a trim of two inches off. She looked at my hair, and boy, lemme tell you, it was so damaged and thinned out already. Anyway, she told me she would advised cutting more than two inches just to get the dead hair out. I followed Chi Quyen back to have my hair washed, and told her my true intentions of wanting to cut it short, because: 1. It was something I haven't done since I was a kid, and my hair has always been, as a child, a nightmare for me before I knew how to take care of the waves and frizz as an adult. So I wanted to do something that for me, took courage. 2. It was to see if I could get rid of how ugly I felt looking in the mirror at the bad dye job and weird colors, and how damaged it was. She asked me if I was the type of person who would take time to take care/style their hair. Because if I wasn't, she advised against going so short. I really appreciated she asked! So I told Chi Quyen that I do take time to take care of my hair, and that's when she said she would cut it short for me. She said if my hair wasn't so damaged, she would feel bad cutting off nice long hair too. But she comforted me because I think she felt my anxiety, telling me it would be okay, because my hair was already damaged, I shouldn't feel so sad, and take this time to let it heal and grow out healthier. Chi Quyen tied my hair so she could keep it for extensions for other clients, but had said if it had been healthy enough, it would have been perfect to be donated for Locks of Love. I loved her even more then. She's the first stylist in my life who has EVER mentioned that. She's so cute--she said, maybe we could donate next time. As she cut off my hair, I could see the style taking shape, and it was so awesome-looking already. She said if I ever had a lazy day, I could just run some wax or mousse through my hair since I have the natural waves, and it would still look nice. She really took her time and was so meticulous throughout the process. I adore her so much. She was such an easy person to talk to. Aside from being so beautiful (and really, she's soo very gorgeous), sweet, lovely, and caring, Chi Quyen really was compassionated. She understood how important this was for me--going from really long hair to short. I really love her. And last but not least, her price was more than fair. I am amazed because her skills speak volumes of her work. She even took time to teach me how to blow-dry so my hair wouldn't turn out frizzy, and how to style my new short hair. The reviews on yelp were what got me to go to this salon in the first place, and let me tell you they may have done a good job on everyone else's hair but they completely ruined mine. I had really long hair reaching down to my belly button that I had been growing out since high school, and I had gotten a balayage before but to a light brown color because we all can't expect to go from dark brown hair to blonde in one session, right? Or so I thought. Well I asked for a balayage just to get my hair a little lighter in the healthiest way, and it would've came up to maybe a level 7 medium blonde in a healthy state and the lady told me she could do that for me at the consultation; so I made an appointment and came in the next week for my appt. at 10 am and they had me wait an hour. Finally when it was my turn she started goin at it, she bleached my whole head of hair, maybe I should've said something but I'm no hairdresser so I let her do her job. Needless to say my dark brown to previously balayaged hair was bleach blonde and fried. THEN SHE BLEACHED IT AGAIN. When she toned it it came out to a nice rose gold/ purple but it wasn't what I asked for and my hair was at its worst.. never again will I go to this place. My hair is still trying to recover and I've cut it short above my shoulders, there's still damage and breakage from the bleach but it'll grow. I'm just saying if you have thick hair go somewhere else because these ladies are not detailed in the slightest bit. read more

Came in for a last minute appointment. Had to wait a bit, and didn't get Quyen as requested due to another hairstylist leaving unexpectedly. But I just needed a simple trim, so I wasn't worried too much. Quyen did a quick shampoo and then Van (?) took over - She was super nice and did a great job on my haircut. I have long hair, and we lopped off about 5 inches. I asked for longer layers, which she gave me and she styled it with curls after as well. I usually head to a Viet salon when I'm back in SoCal because they know how to handle Asian hair well. I used to go to Bebe salon, but won't anymore because the hairstylist was bashing my last haircut...only to find out that SHE was the one that gave me the last haircut! read more

wow so glad I found this place. Everyone on Yelp recommended Quyen so I booked an appointment for a cut and balayage with her and was not disappointed. She fixed up my layers that I got fucked up at some super cuts place and really gave me this super pretty balayage. Quyen even sent me a before and after pic of my hair, how sweet is that? I was super happy with how talented quyen was and how amazing her prices were. I only paid $150, I was shocked because the last time I got a balayage I was charged significantly more given how thick my hair is. I first got my hair cut by Quyen a month before my wedding and I loved it! So I went back to get it cut a lot shorter 2 months after my wedding. She is very detailed and ask you your preference of what you want every step. From the length of your hair, the length of where you want your bangs (if you are cutting bangs) to start, to how thin you want your hair to be. Because she did such a good job with my cut, I went back to get my hair dyed and it was not what I hoped because it turned out a lot lighter than expect. Quyen is very sweet and patient. I made an appointment and was unable to make it due to traffic. I gave her a call and instead of being rude about it, she was very understanding and told me to just come but warned that I would probably have to wait a bit. I ended up coming about an hour and a half late, and waited around 45 minutes to see her as she had a few appointments ahead of me. I showed her a picture of what I wanted which was a medium lob, and she pretty much delivered. The only slight disappointment I had was I asked her for a lot of volume, and she said she would have to cut a lot of layers...but my last hair stylist told me if I wanted volume then to cut it one length, so I was confused. My hair is pretty much a short asymmetrical lob. Currently when it's not curled, the ends curl out which I don't like...but it does look very nice when curled. Can't complain for the price I paid of $25. The other lady who shampooed my hair (works on the far right of the store) was also super nice. Quyen cuts your hair after shampoo and blow-dry which is different than what I'm used to but I kinda like it that way so that the hair doesn't get stuck all over my face and neck. It was a Saturday, there was a wedding party, they were slammed; I get it. Quyen is the best for lash extensions! The females in my family have been going to her for years and I recently joined them on this splurge a few months ago. So glad i did! Makes getting ready each day such a breeze. I usually request a natural look just for daily wear. But for special occasions like weddings, you could always request a more dramatic look during that refill session. Rates and quality of work is great compared to others that my friends & family have experienced. Quyen is very thorough and easy to schedule appointments with. I came in a couple of days ago for a haircut appointment with Quyen. The salon was very clean and pleasant with only the hairstylists and a couple customers, which was very nice compared to the previous salons I've been to with hustling and bustling people all over the place. I've been looking for a new hairstylist because the one I went to for years lost her touch but raised the price on me, and another stylist that I tried actually cut my hair a little unevenly and they double booked my appointment so I waited longer after arriving on time! So typical when it comes to the salons in the Vietnamese community. Quyen saw me on time and sat me down before getting started to talk about the look I wanted. It's actually the first time a hairstylist discussed with me about how I could achieve the look I desired before washing my hair, etc. Usually they just quickly agree and move on so they could get my cut over with. So that was a good sign! My hair turned out very similar to the look I wanted, with layers that gave my previously long flat hair a bit of volume. Quyen was very skillful and meticulous, and I loved that she wasn't rushing. I thought the starting price would be $25, but mine was $30 without tip since I had a lot of hair. Quyen is a very sweet person and I really enjoyed my time there with her. I definitely found my new go-to hairstylist! I have known Quyen for almost 20 yrs now. I've been going to her ever since I was In high school. Her work is impeccable. Always happy with her work. She does everything exactly how I ask her to.
