All my life I've been a serial salon hopper, if I wasn't 100% happy with the cut or color, I never went back. That is, until I met Stephanie G! I went blonde 2 years ago and I was doing it at home, but I've been going to her for more than a year now and always left happy with the results. She specializes in blonding, and I get an occasional cut from her. I have stubborn black moderately coarse asian hair and it take a little bit longer for the lightener to lift my hair, but my hair never feels dry. I really hate leaving bad reviews, but I feel the need to do so after my terrible experience, my girlfriend Sonia who has been here and has had her hair done by Stephanie has always done a great job. I needed my hair and makeup done, I had no preference for anyone considering it's a full service salon. I was introduced to Rocio who was lovely nothing against her but her work was not what I expected. My hair was so knotted up and my lashes to glued to the the bottom lashes. I was disappointed and overwhelmed. I was anxious and wanted to run out of the salon. But I didn't want to make her feel bad by the way I felt. The pricing is reasonable if this were work I fell in love with. I have been a regular at Relini's now for several years. I've been seeing Lynn for my *whispers* facials. Yes, I am a guy who has occasional skin breakouts. I need to have regular appointments to keep my skin healthy clean. Lynn is the best!!! She is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Lynn always knows just what kind of treatment I need for that session. Each time, she always leaves my skin squeaky clean and glowing. I've also had great experiences with Relini's different hairstylists. I live about 40 miles from Relinis, which makes it a problem for regular 2 week appointments, but in a jam, I'll occasionally get my hair cut by an available stylist. I've never been disappointed. i called in on Friday and was hoping to get a Saturday 8:30am appt, it was last minute and i was doubtful anything was available. but was surprised they did. this was my first time calling/ visiting a different salon... Ashley answered, she was super nice and very sweet on the phone. She set up my appointment with Carla. I came in right at 8:30 the next day and was seen right away. By way of introduction, my name is Ron F. and I fight for taxpayers against the actions of the government. I absolutely must look good when I stand before a tribunal of judges. I have been looking for a great place to make my hair look good, but also not cost me $250. For the last couple of years I have been going to various salons and barber shops in the Long Beach & Orange County areas trying to find one that would provide me with a great business cut. What I found is that most places are very expensive, meaning over $100, or they did a very bad job. A friend recommended Salon Relini and I should get Mario Castillo or Rene. Now getting a great stylist like Rene to do a simple business man's cut seemed like a long shot, but Mario got me scheduled in. When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by a very nice lady. She offered me a drink and gave me a place to sit while I waited. A few minutes later Mario Castillo came over and introduced himself. He took me back to wash my hair, he put a wrap around me, had me sit down, and made sure that I was comfortable. He washed my hair, and the water was perfectly warm. For the next 10 minutes I got the best shampoo, rinse, and head massage that I have ever received. Mario helped me out of the chair and walked me over to Rene's work station. Rene came over, introduced himself, he asked me about what I wanted in terms of a style that would make me look good for my age, my body size, the types and colors of the suits I wear, and a variety of other questions. After about 15 minutes of discussing things, Rene began to cut my hair. He used techniques I have not seen before. After about 25 minutes, he was finishing up, and I looked great. He then showed me some jells and pastes to help with my style. After showing me the products, he took the time to show me how to use the products with a blow dryer so that my hair would look great long after the appointment. I purchased the products. I was shocked when I got the bill, it was almost 75% less than the previous places I have been to, but my hair was so substantially more robust than the cuts I previously have received from the other places I have gone to. In my opinion the prices for the high quality products were lower than what I had seen at other salons. In all I was pleasantly shocked on how reasonable the cost of the services and the prices of the products were. If you are thinking of changing from your current stylist, or need something specifically accomplished with your hair, or you have an important event coming up then you should at least come in and just watch how they treat their current clients. After doing that, introduce yourself to the receptionist and she will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Really, don't even bother making an appointment, just go and check them out. When you leave I think you will want an appointment, but you will get to see how clean the place is, how great the women's hair look when they are finished, and how the cost of their services are so low. I really like this place, because when I stand before a panel to represent taxpayers against the government, I need to look great. Salon Relini, along with Mario Castillo and Rene make me look great, and at a fraction of the cost of anywhere else. It costs you nothing to check them out. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

Came here a couple of weeks ago to get some extensions installed by Stephanie. I'm so glad I made the decision to go with her! Not only do my extensions blend seamlessly, but she is the only other hair dresser that I know that installs the wefts in with beads. So that means no glue, no braids, no tape, nothing that will knot up your hair or damage it in any way! I went into Relini because I was ready for a change and was willing to pay for it, I read reviews about how Stephanie G was so great.... I booked an appointment with her, I showed her plenty of pictures of what I would like and what I didn't like! I showed her pictures of how I've had my hair in the past year so she would know what she was working with.... she acted as if she knew what she was doing, we agreed with the picture on the bottom right. After a 5 1/2 hour session I was left speechless, my hair looked nothing like I was expecting...she always cut my hair when I told her not to because I had cut it two weeks before. She said it wasn't even so she was only going to trim a layer, she cut off so much more than a "trim" The worse part was that she was upset that I wasn't happy..... my hair was left short, damaged, and multi GREENISH brownish COLORS. She is also quick which is great because I've been places that did decent coloring but took 6+ hours Steph also did my lashes for a year before I started grad school and ran out of time to go in but they were also amazing and I miss them. My mom and I first met Rene about 13 years ago when he was working at Salon Cajj. We were always amazed at the beautiful hair his clients would walk out with. He was really great with updos. At the time, another stylist was doing our hair and we felt guilty to ditch him for Rene but, he soon left to open up his own salon. We trekked our way to Downey to have him work his magic on our hair without the guilt from the other salon. We loved it! And Rene was doing our hair ever since. You guys are probably wondering if he's so great what's up with the two-star rating... Well.... I soon started an 8-5 job and wanted late appointments on weekdays, that way I could go after work and also avoid the weekend when everyone else was trying to do their hair. Their hours are supposedly until 9pm and Rene stays late I think one or two days a week. So, I had an appointment at 5pm on a Wednesday. (I skipped lunch to leave work at 4pm to make it by 5pm because that was the latest Rene was willing to take an appointment). I get there a little earlier than 5pm and Rene asks me what I want done with my hair. I said retouch, highlight and cut, like I stated when I made the appointment. I currently had my hair light because it was summertime. Rene asks if I want to go darker because in order to retouch my current color he would have to highlight etc. etc. and that would take time. I said no I don't really want to go darker because my hair went through alot to achieve this light color and I wanted it to be worthwhile and keep it for the rest of summer but, I don't mind going a little darker... if that meant no highlights just a retouch. But wait a minute...why did you book my appointment for highlights, retouch and cut if you don't have time/didn't want to do highlights that late??? So, he puts on the color and I emerge from the sink and my hair is DARK! There goes my color I got to enjoy for 6 weeks. Ok, this is not what I asked for but, I let it slide. From then on I learned my lesson and starting booking early Saturday appointments. The next time around my mom and I both had an appointment at 10am on a Saturday for cut, color and highlights. I'm thinking he would save at least a 3 hour slot for us. That morning, I had an unexpected event come up so, I called before 10 to tell him I wasn't going to make it but, my mom would be going by herself. Since, it's just her can she come in at 11am? He said "what time are you going to be here because I'm already very busy and I have clients waiting." I'm thinking what??? I thought we had a 10am appointment so, if we showed up at at 10 he would be busy doing someone else's hair and we would have to wait??? (Double booking is a regular occurrence here). My mom gets there at 11am. Rene is no where to be found. She sits and waits for him for 20 mins and nothing. She then asks the lady up front if he would be attending to her soon and she finds out he actually went to lunch. Greattt... My mom stormed out and we have not been back since. I feel that Rene feels he has a large clientele now and he doesn't have to take care of old clients. He can just replace us with new ones. We never received an apology for what happened and it's very disappointing after being faithful clients for so long. The girls up front are also not very friendly. We have been going there for years and Stephanie still acts like she doesn't know us and asks for our first and last name every time. If you want to see Rene you'll have to make an appointment over a month in advance and expect to be there the whole day while you share your appointment time with other clients. read more

I began coming to Relini about 6-7 months ago and had my hair done with a stylist named Lupe. After looking for a stylist for several weeks, I was so happy I found someone who understood what I wanted! One of my pet peeves is staining! I hate being stained on my hairline. I think it's so unprofessional and sloppy. At my first visit she had these wipes that she handed me and never left a mark. I am what people would call "basic".. Lol I like my hair very plain and subtle. I like my gray covered. I have dark brown hair and once in awhile, I will get a few highlights put in, for the most part, that's as crazy as I like my hair. The highlights, again, subtle and always in the natural range. After I became her regular client the amount for my touch ups was from $45-$55 which was completely reasonable. I like tipping around $7-$10 so adding that to my totals after services always seemed reasonable and fair. The day she did my highlights on just the crown area I paid over $200 and it did seem excessive but my hair was mid back and it seemed fair so I paid it.. However, there after, I only had touch ups with the occasional toner applied. She NEVER did my highlights again after that... The prices she charged me always seemed "made up" in my opinion. They ranged from the $55 for touch ups to $125 for toner and touch ups..which I began to feel was over priced just for toner... The last day I saw her was on June 5th & she talked me into having a toner applied to the highlights that already had re growth down to the tip of my nose since she hadn't done anymore highlights but that one time.. I felt it looked uneven and wanted her to just cover it up...but I let her do the toner.. Once she finished, the cashier said it was $125, I felt it was a lot because all she did was the touch up, & the toner.... No conditioning treatments, no masks..nothing... The next day I sent Lupe a text & confirmed with her what had been done and she confirmed only touch up and toner had been done. This was on Saturday....I told her I felt I had overpaid, that I normally pay $55 tops for the touch up and that I felt $70 for toner was too much and felt I had overpaid. She NEVER responded. By Sunday I still hadnt heard from her and was very disappointed. I called a friend and scheduled an appt with her stylist at Avant Garde in Downey... I also walked out of Relini with a stained forehead, stained side burns, stained ears. She started to get sloppy. She'd roll her eyes or make faces if I appeared upset over it as if it were my fault she wasn't doing her job proficiently or professionally. My hair was mid back and needed some trimming but when she'd blow dry it I would see her struggle because it was long so she had to put some elbow grease into it and when she "trimmed" it, she cut off more than 1in & it ended up shoulder length, I think she just didn't want to blow dry the length. I was visibly upset and she rolled her eyes. I text Lupe and asked her to cancel my July appt because I would not be returning and had found another stylist. She then responded with an "apology" and said she was going to wait until Tuesday to respond so she could check the ticket she had written. I think letting me know that would've been the more professional thing to do, rather than not respond and have me wait 3 days until the salon opened. Yet, she just ignored my concern. Especially because I had been her client for some time. She gave me some vague and lame explanation about how prices vary, but this isn't my first time at the rodeo... I'm a professional makeup artist that's worked in film and television for many years. My cousin owns a salon in Downey, and I have worked with many hair stylists throughout my career. My cousin also teaches for Toni & Guy so I was shocked at the blatant shoulder shrug to my concern as a client... I felt cheated. I thought she would still make it right come tuesday and that I would hear from her with a further explanation. It is now June 17th and I have yet to hear back. That only leads me to believe that I was right. I over paid, and that it was deliberate. I am a single mom, a cancer survivor, so my budget is tight, I can no longer speak because cancer took my voice, so shame on her for cheating me and shame on Relini for not questioning the stylist on what services are being charged at the time of payment and giving a client a breakdown for what they're paying. She/they can keep the $70 I over paid...she lost a loyal client she could've had for many many years.... The thing is, I don't mind paying a lot of money for my hair...but when it LOOKS like I did or when the work and products the stylist uses constitute the price but I always walked out of there looking plain. With dark brown hair and a blow out. No bi weekly highlights, no regular conditionings, nothing extra....and I'm sure of this because she never suggested more than my touch ups. I will never go back, and I'm disappointed. Shame on all of you!! read more

This place is horrible I just don't know where to even start.. If I could give them negative stars I would! This was the 1st salon I went to when I first moved to downey. The hairdresser that cut my hair was very knowledgable and nice. But for a trim and deep condition was $70!! So not worth it. This salon is very click like. If your not a usual be prepared to be stared down.. After the haircut experience, I would only go in to buy my make up.. Which was only due to convience(b4 saphora opened n the mall). Customer service is HORRIBLE HERE! There were times I was browsing the make up- I could feel the eyes on me like I was a criminal or something.
