RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. I was looking for an inexpensive place to trim the dyed ends of my hair, about 1.5 inches, and SalonTrose was labeled as "$$" on Yelp, the same price range as the inexpensive salon I was originally planning on going to but was unfortunately closed that day. I called SalonTrose and was able to get an appointment pretty quickly. The actual salon is awesome. It's small and hip and comfortable, and overall, I had a great experience and a great cut, but then I was told the price - I almost passed out. $80 for a trim?!?!??!?!?!?!!!?!?! I have no idea if I was ripped off, or I should have known that SalonTrose was so expensive, but even if I had known, I think the cost is completely unjustified. I'm never going back simply because of that. Great cut, great hairdresser, great experience, but my wallet was robbed, and I'm just not willing to pay that kind of money. read more

This week I went to Salontrose for my first time ever. I wanted to do something I had never done before with my hair, and after much research, I found that Kaitlin, the Salontrose color expert, offered exactly what I was looking for! I wanted a drastic full balayage and a cut. I was nervous for my hair change, but from the moment I walked in, I instantly felt comfortable. The salon is cozy and the staff was so friendly. They even offered me my favorite drink which was just a nice bonus. I sat down in Kaitlin's chair and showed her pictures of what I was going for. We discussed and she told me exactly how she would tailor the look and personalize it for me! She evened out the layers I had that I was unhappy with from a previous salon, and gave me the most amazing balayage! She lightened my dark brown hair to a very natural warm tone, and pulled through my dark roots with lowlights for a super natural and blended look. It's exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend SalonTrose, I came in and got a haircut from Rebecca and she is great! We had a consultation for the first few minutes where she made sure she understand what I was looking for. She is very knowledgeable and gave advice when I asked about what works best for my super-fine hair type, as well as provided styling tips when I listed off some problems I had with curling my long hair. I was scheduled for a 2 hour appointment to have a whole balayage done on my hair. I was quoted around $180-250 for the whole balayage yet I was only able to get a partial balayage the day of my appointment due to the lack of time I was scheduled. After the partial was done the price came out to $240 before tip just for a PARTIAL and not only that but I was scheduled a MONTH from now to have the REST of my hair done and quoted ANOTHER $250. That is literally $500 for a basic balayage. Most salons charge up to $250 for a complete balayage while I was charged $250 for just what came out as face framing highlights. My hairdresser was great but I do think the prices here are ridiculous and the results were nowhere near $500 worth. Save your money, the area doesn't necessarily mean better quality. read more

The bad attitude in this place is appalling. The stylist basically yelled at me because I didn't like the blow dry because my hair was still frizzy . They don't care about the client . Instead I was told I'm told I'm busy I can't deal with this . Wow. I was a good customer , always tipped well . No customer service at all . Too many hair salons in Houston to have to deal with this. After she finished blow dry I told her I don't like it because it's still frizzy and she threw the blow dryer and said well that's the best I can do you can talk to Emily ( my stylist) I said ok I will do that. Thinking that she would come out and check to see what's going on and see how she can resolve it considering I am her client . She never came so I got up to look for her and that's when I saw her in the mixing room and told her Emily I don't like the blow dry and Emily said I'm busy I don't have time. That's what happened. I must confessed that I've only been to a real salon about four times in my life, two of them were overseas and one was through a stylist-in-training free haircut and this is my fourth time. For the past few years, I either go to your typical five dollar men's cut salon or had a family member cut it for me to save money. But I truly believe you get what you pay for and when you want to really, really look good, you have to spend a bit more to get some of the best haircut you will ever have in your life. Honestly speaking, when you (or in this case, me) get a really good cut, not only you look good and getting compliments from people, but you actually feel really, really good on the inside as well. So, I have decided to treat myself and get a fancy haircut at SalonTrose. One of the stylist there, Brittany, whom I have met before, convinced me to let her cut my hair. I was in the neighborhood and made an appointment in person for the week after at 11AM. I gave them my e-mail address and SalonTrose send me an e-mail confirmation that the appointment is in the system. When I showed up a bit early for the appointment, Brittany was there and all ready to go. She showed me where her seat was and discussed with me on what kind of cut I am looking for. I've told her that I want something different as I feel like I'm ready for a new (or in this case, old) looking again. First we went to the back to give my hair a wash. After the wash with this awesome tingling minty shampoo and a bit of head massage, I went back to the seat and ready for my haircut. All the trims and cutting were on point when it comes to how short I wanted it on my side and back. Then we went to wash off the excessive hair again and come back for the cut on the top. Brittany was a bit more conservative as chopping off the top bit by bit. She has this special razor to cut the hair as it gives the hair a bit of "uneven" but in a good way. That razor looks like half of a scissors with ridges on it. After trimming a bit and she was still combing my hair to the side. I asked her for the comb and show her what I would look like if I slick my hair up and that really helped her to know that I can look good in different style other than combing to the side. From there she was able to be more assuring on how to cut the hair, applying a bit of this special gel that's not too hair but able to mold the hair up to give it some volume. After a few more trims and a few adjustments, I was done with how I like it and it was time for one last wash and dry. Brittany re-applied the same gel again, comb and played with the top to give it a natural look and I was super satisfied with the outcome. The payment is easy as the stylist have Square connected to their own phone for payment and their haircut charge is clearly stated on their price list next to their station. Since I really, really liked my hair, I gave her a generous tip because Brittany really nailed it and took her time to make sure it came out close to perfection. So gentlemen, if you want a brand new look for just want to feel good for the next few weeks, come and treat yourself to a fine haircut here at SalonTrose. I highly recommend Brittany as she's very professional, listening on the feedback as if you see something that's not straight or off, tell her and she will gladly make it better for you, and great time chatting with her while getting my hair cut. I've been seeing Fryda for cut and color for a year now and my hair has never been healthier. In just a year, I've noticed faster growth and thicker hair and I believe it's due to the long term planning she does at every appointment. She always plans for the future health of my hair and not just what will look good for now, and it shows. I started off just getting cuts with her and I appreciate that she balances my wants with what is realistic and best for my hair type and texture. Even air dried, my hair has never looked better, it has so much movement and shine and I love her layering technique! We've been working on maintaining the fullness of my hair while leaving room for those tik tok layers we all love. I only started doing color in October and I have very black hair naturally, so it's been a slower process so as to not fry my hair. Thanks to her long term planning and my meticulous at-home hair routine, it was healthy enough that she was able to get it to this gorgeous mushroom/bronde tone in our second session! Fryda's work speaks for itself but it's her personality that also keeps me coming back. It feels like I'm seeing a friend every single time and it's just cozy and welcoming in there. She's so funny and kind on top of being extremely talented. Her pricing is very fair to me given the hours and hours of work she puts in for each appointment, she truly is a perfectionist. Part of me doesn't want to leave this review because it's already hard to get an appointment with her, but her work is too good not to share, especially for my fellow brunettes. 5 stars for my haircut, and unfortunately 1 star for scheduling. I love, love, love the haircut I got from Traci. It has fantastic layers and was exactly what I wanted. (If you are curious about her work, make sure to check out her Instagram). I was so excited I even took photos and added them to this page! My haircut took no time (maybe 15-20 minutes) and even with a lot of styling, I was out of there well under an hour. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of trouble scheduling appointments/customer service. After my initial appointment, I scheduled a trim in December using the online system. Two days later, I got a phone call in the middle of my work day explaining that the trim was going to be rescheduled. I told the associate that it would most likely be fine, but that I would appreciate an email with the revised time. The associate (kind of rudely) assured me I would definitely get an email. Well, I never got that email! By checking on my own a week or so later, I realized that the new time didn't work at all for me. Womp womp. Then, I showed up today at 9 am Saturday for my haircut. Traci was nowhere to be seen at 9:15, without a call or an email. Without any real end in sight, I suggested rescheduling sometime a bit later so that my haircut. (I have to admit that was dual purpose: I don't want to inconvenience every person on the schedule after me, and I didn't want my haircut to be rushed through at these prices. This was my #treatyoself moment!) In my head, I was really thinking I would grab a bite to eat in the area and come back some time 11-1 when she had 20-30 minutes for me. The receptionist was apologetic and assured me I would get a call back ASAP. Again, no call. After I checked my email a couple of hours later, Salontrose emailed me that 1) they no longer has my telephone number and 2) I could only be rescheduled to 3 pm. If you remember, they called me the last time I was rescheduled---clearly I had given them my phone number at least once before! Traci, to her credit, did offer me a half off discount. Traci was able to take a lot of volume out of my hair and gave me cute piece-y looking layers! Everything I asked for! We spent a lot of time thinning my hair because it is insanely thick & the result is something super easy to style and I get compliments on it all the time. Absolutely loved my haircut with Nydia. I have bangs that I am trying to grow out and she helped me with some tips on how to style them while I'm growing them out (we went with curtain bangs). I showed her a picture of what I wanted and that picture is exactly what I got! Same exact length, same number of layers, etc. She even taught me how to style it now that it's shorter, which was a blessing.
