Sals Birdland is a place dear to my heart. Where I grew up there was one down the street. I absolutely love the chicken wings! The places is pretty big inside, clean with booth style seating. It's counter service, walk in and order then wait for the delish wings. Sals Birdland wings are a breaded wing. The wings are dums and flats, the flat has the tip as well.The potatoe wedges are some of my favorite wedges too. The wings are breaded and fried to perfection. They are crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. The potatoe wedges are just as perfect as the wings. In my opinion these wings are second to none compared to other breaded wings. If you like gizzard you will be impressed because they are scrumptious too. Sals is also know for there sassy sauce and can be purchased at grocery stores. The blue cheese is my altime favorite. The price is high for wings, but Sals has always been on the pricey side even before wing prices got out of control. You get what you pay for, absolutely delicious and worth every penny. I'd recommend this place to any wing enthusiasts., it's a unique breaded wing. Try the blue cheese with the wedges! Pro tip. Solid 3.5 stars. The sauce is good. So why 3.5 stars? IMO the sauce gets the gizzards soggy. Needed to be cooked longer. Wings are good but it's more fried chicken than a wing joint. Lightly breaded. I like "Rochester Style" wings. When they're breaded and then sauced. However, that only works if they are consumed immediately after saucing (or if you're drunk). Sal's Birdland serves the basic breaded wing with their signature sauce. It's good, but like many wing places, the sides leave something to be desired. I would prefer a spicier and less sweet sauce, but that's not how Rochesterians like it, so I get what I get. I still would eat them wings. read more

Got a take out wing dinner recently and sals never disappoint. I have to tell them I want my wings VERY WELL DONE because lately my wings have been undercooked.....even when you tell them well done. The food is good and I frequent the place. But I can no longer frequent them anymore because the price of one wing dinner.......$17 and some change. Sals, you're out of your mind! They only give you 8 wings! If you're charging that much for one dinner, give customers 10 wings like most places! read more

Scammers if you do order make sure you go into their restaurant to pick your order up and pay when you pick food up not before hand or you will be scammed . The food in this place is delicious and yet terrible for you all at the same time and I love it! Great big huge chicken wings battered and deep fried to perfection with the most delicious wing sauce and blue cheese I ever had! They have wing dinners, gizzards, and half chicken dinners as well. The macaroni salad is to die for! Your taste buds will thank you and it surely is a yummy feast. Sal's deliciously delightful, belly filling Birdland. I must first note I was okay with stopping here after a day of hiking, but not super excited because I have not developed a huge appreciation for fried chicken...until now! My husband and I shared the ten wing meal, which came with two sides and a drink. Based on Yelp tips and reviews from our counter parts we ordered mild sauce on the side of our wings; with fries and the mac salad. Mac Salad was not amazing, nor terrible. The potato wedge style fries were quite tasty, and the wings with that zesty sauce slammed this meal home for me! There are two things that prevented me from tapping that final star into place. The first being the service, not with myself but it appeared as though there were a couple mistakes which is acceptable of course. However I was taken a back slightly when there was an error with an order followed by a request in additional money. For me I feel as though it would keep customers coming back if they accepted the mistake and let the two dollar difference slide. The second, also reflects on money as the pricing on menu items is a little steep. Otherwise the food is on point, staff were fairly friendly behind there glass and bars, and there remained plenty reason to go back for round two. Get out there. Enjoy your wings. Repeat. read more

Amazing fried chicken wings in a semi spicy sweet sauce. The skin was just so crispy even with all that sauce covering it. The Mac salad was also solid. If you are taking it to go ask for sauce on side otherwise coating on chicken would get soggy after 10 mins. The dining atmosphere is non existent, pretty depressing actually and the location on Ridge Rd is sketchy to say the least. I ate in and watched my German car the entire time. Under $10 for 6 wing segments and 1 side. They also sell all the sauces and spice mixtures at the counter. Can't wait to visit again, it was that good! read more

Hands down best ever!!!! Had a quinceañera for my daughter and featured Sal's infamous wings and wedges. Absolute hit with everyone especially those like myself who grew up on Sal's. Everything was hot, fresh and most of all rite on time. Even on a busy Thanksgiving weekend Jimmy put the customers needs in front of his own to ensure great quality food and customer service. Ordered over $80.00 worth of wings and such last night for our group, 15 minute drive there / 15 minutes home to find they neglected to give us the Sal's sauce in our order. I called and they would only credit $3.00 for the sauce or I could drive back there to pick up the sauce- and come home to cold food. Was not looking for the world but $10-$20 Credit seemed fair for their screw up and my inconvenience. Sorry Sal's won't ever see me there again- Country Sweet here we come. read more
