I walked into Sal's Pizza on Tremont Street in Boston, in June 2012 and was refused service because I a disabled and use a service animal. The GM called me back about the incident and belittled the incident. I would only ask other yelpers to not enrich a company who is so blatant in their discrimination against a disabled man. OMG i love their pizza. We went to Sal's got 2 slices (more like 4 slices in human worlds) and snuck into the movie theatre next door with them ... (we did pay for tickets just not 500 dollars for snacks). The pizza is cheap, cooked in front of you, perfectly crispy, tasty crust, generous toppings, and huge portions. Being across from Boston Commons, this place wins in convenience. With 10 pies on the glass and barely anywhere to sit, this place probably gets the majority of its business through walk by slice eaters, case in point: myself. -=-Mushroom Sausage Jalapeno Slice-=- One slice was enough for 2. They were happy to cut it in half for us. I can't say it was the best pizza I've had in Boston, but it was a good fix. I've ordered from Sal's at a different location before and I was hoping this one would be equally good. Unfortunately they put way too much sauce on and it tasted bad. The cheese was sliding off. I ordered over $70 worth of food and they got the order wrong. I could understand a mistake but they wanted me to accept the mistake. After talking to the Manager, I realized their is no communication between the order taker and the Kitchen. First time ordering and the last. After going back and forth, the manager offered to fix it. I declined because the whole ordeal was draining. read more

The crust is good, topping were dry (prob from sitting out too long), sauce is ok. They don't have a huge selection but they have the basics. The staff was friendly and very speedy. The shop is clean and has space to eat your pizza while looking onto the Common. The slices are big and $5 per slice is actually like 2 slices which is pretty cheap and filling. The pizza is noting special but will do if you've had a couple of drinks and need a quick bite. read more

After relentless advertising, Sal's finally has a location in the city. It's new, clean, and fairly small. Standing room only - literally. The pizza is just average! The TV commercials are better than the food. When asking the staff how the new shop is catching on - they said only "okay" because "people say the prices are way too high." Agreed. I was walking back to downtown the other day and passed this place. It's $4.25 for a big slice (about 1/4 of a pie like everyone else said). OMG, I am in love! I might have to hike from the wharf to Sal's for lunch when it starts to warm up again. The crust was soft around the edges so I ate that right up. And, the sauce, cheese and pepperoni was a perfect amount. It wasn't too greasy or too sauce-y. Everything stayed in tact to me able to eat on the go. I was able to fold it up and eat while I walked. Perfect location, right on the common. Ever so convenient for college kid munchies. The slices are a quarter of a pizza, so they cut it in half into two slices once you order it. The two-slice sized slice of plain cheese is a little over 3 bucks, so not a bad price for a big chunk of pizza. I'm personally a big fan of the pizza, but it does take a little while to make. Sometimes they have it ready, but if not, you can expect to wait a little while before you get a piece. It's mostly a walk in place, eat-on-the-go. However, there are bars you can stand at if you want to eat there. They also have pasta, calzones, etc, but I haven't tried these. read more

I went to Sal's the other day out of sheer, hungry desperation. I had been craving pizza, but by the time I was finished with errands I found myself too famished to make the trip to my original intended pizza location. Enter Sal's. The slices were HUGE, a definite plus when you're starving, and they had a good variety of toppings. My slice was good, although I have to say the eggplant left a bit to be desired, but the real treat was the crust. Often a pizza is more about the toppings for me than the crust, but Sal's crust was a real treat. Kind of like a really perfect roll, with a good crust on the outside and nice, soft bready goodness inside. And my wife and I each got a quarter of a pizza for $5 apiece. So that was nice. HOLY TITS. This is really good pizza. I came in for a couple slices, but then I noticed how big they were. One slice is 1/4th of an extra large pizza... and all that for $3.50?? God damn. The woman cut it in half for me and each half was still bigger than your average slice. The pizza is delicious, and a little greasy, but that's good because it goes well with the soft doughy crust. I heard good tidings about Sal's for a while, but I was skeptical. I shouldn't have been. I knew it wasn't the cheapest slice around. I knew it wasn't likely the biggest either. Yet what I think Sal's does it marry the two. For a cool $3.50-ish, you get a slice. Which is actually two slices. I'm so glad they cut that slice (1/4 of a pie!) into two because I'd have a hell of a fun time trying to eat that on the Common. It'll do the job too; trust me. Top it up with the usual, grab some napkins that happen to be hiding behind things on the wall, and chow down. And another thing: the guy who was working there when I stopped by was a real class act. Came here again and it definitely earned the stars. Last time I had the pizza cold (I had taken it to eat later was in fridge) and it was delicious! Now having it warm , it was out of this world. Really glad i found this place, my only gripe is that there was no seating(was tired of walking and couldn't stand another minute standing). At least the pizza makes up for this!! One of the pizzas that were really good was the sweet chili chicken? Pepperoni and mushrooms was good too. If you really want to sit down go to the commons across the street and sit on a park bench or just take your food to go. Either way definitely worth it. read more

Maybe I'm older, maybe it's different, but this Sal's doesn't seem to have the same je ne sais quoi as the one in good old Manchvegas. Perhaps they've always served their individual slices reheated, but I was too short to see over the counter. A few things that remain true: 1 slice really means 2, and be prepared for a good-sized, doughy crust. I used to LOVE SAL's PIZZA but I haven't been able to say that in recent years since I've been going to the Tremont St. location, where each trip has been a sinking experience and today was the Last Straw! Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was how unappealing the pizzas in the display case looked, which had sloppy toppings atop burnt looking crusts! I was hungry and had intended to buy two slices which were not in the case, "Good, fresher food" I thought, only to be told there was only one left while another pizza was being made! I bought it, which equals 2 elsewhere! I happily left only to find when I got home that the " fresher food" looked WORSE than those in the case! I've eaten at Sal's at least since the days when one was across the street from the Fenway movie theater and I've never seen a more wretched looking thing: nearly blackened crust with black patches on the cheese! As for the taste, even with the dark patches removed, there was only a faint reminder of how a proper Sal's pizza is SUPPOSED to taste! This was absolutely abominable and an insult to Sal's reputation! I hope they improve at this location but right now, the prospects are pretty grim! read more

You really can't go wrong with Sal's. I have VERY high standards for pizza, and come here once a week. You get the largest slice of pizza (which is really two slices) for about $5. It's also very quick which I appreciate. The only drawback is that there's nowhere to sit and it can get quite crowded inside with people waiting. It's also right next to a Suffolk dorm, so you'll find it surge around lunch time with students and professionals. read more

I got an XL Cheese Pizza right before watching The Incredibles II at the AMC theater down the street and absolutely loveeeed the pizza! I shared with two other people and it was so much that we were full after eating just half of the pie! We packed it in our bags and ate it in the theater lol. I'll be brief. Their food is tasty. Good sauce, good meats, good dough. One recommendation and one complaint: Recommendation: Call ahead. They don't really have much in the way of prepared foods. They have cheese and peperoni slices of course, but only one or two calzones. It will be a 15 minute wait to place the order when you get there so call ahead, especially if you're running out to lunch from work. But why? Downtown crossing especially should have a bunch pre-made. Complaint: Slices are huge. That's great for our over-consuming society, but I'd rather get two smaller slices and try two different kinds for the same price. Yet, they won't cut a slice (which is really two slices) in half. Staff did not greet us when entering the store, and after attempting to order chicken wings, barked at us that they didn't have them. Cheap pizza that actually tastes good is hard to come by. The Downtown Crossing area has the cheap, but not the good. Massive slices for a little more than a couple of dollars is an awesome investment for anytime of the day. The only downfall: make sure you go when they are a bit busy. My first encounter was during an extremely slow period, so they reheated the pizza in a stone oven, and it wasn't as fresh as I'd like. Their calzones? WOW. Had a fresh 4-cheese calzone for a little over $7 and was worth every damn penny I spent. Filling, not shy on the toppings, and just superb. If you are one of those grease fearing individuals, this probably isn't for you. My only complaint is that the side sauce for the calzone isn't quite thick enough, so it's hard to really get any some on every bite. Regardless, I'm definitely a fan of this place. The order process is quick, the people are friendly. However, their line is a bit chaotic. But if you are going to a place for cheap pizza, do you really need to be complaining about the line not being incredibly in order? Didn't think so. read more
