My husband was used to work at Sal's in Maryland when he was a kid so he asked ne to try this one in Boston. GREAT! I had two slices: one with spicy chicken and another with sweet chili steak. Both huge and great! Same for the ones of my husband. The guy thatvworks there is wery kind, fast and clean and very very helpful about explaining the different choices of pizza. My favorite pizza spot in Boston hands down! I'm from NY, and there aren't too many pizza places in Boston that I actually like. Sal's is really good, though. The size standard "slice" is actually two slices, so for less than $4, you can get two giant slices of pizza. The crust (best/most important part of a pizza) is really good, the toppings are good, and the sauce is good as well. There are a variety of toppings to choose from, and the staff is always friendly. Came in here one day to try the pizza, and it was pretty good.. no complaints. It wasn't Easy Pie Pizza (Braintree, MA) or anything LOL. The pizza was fresh, and a slice is the equivalent to 2 slices. The crust was flaky and huge just how I like it! The sauce and cheese is good. But what made me come back that same day (yeah i'm greedy ) and the next day, basically all week ... was the Chocolate Chip Cannoli's!!!!! OMG! The guy said they make them in house, and to be honest I never liked Cannoli's until now! These things must have crack sprinkled on it because I AM HOOKED! If you're looking to catch a no-frills quick bite before a movie at the Boston Commons, Sal's Pizza is the place to go. They have surprisingly good pizza, and a big selection of toppings and flavors. The plus side is that a "slice" of pizza is really the equivalent of 2 gigantic slices of pieces, so you can share with a buddy and have a tasty and cheap lunch while you're at it. The downside is that they don't have any seating, just elevated counters that you can stand at while you eat. In the spirit of being positive, though, I'll flip that downside for you by suggesting a picnic in the park. The Boston Common is literally across the street, and a nice spot to eat a slice on a sunny afternoon. read more

I placed a delivery order for my office today. The food was supposed to arrive at 12:50PM. At 1:05 it still had no arrived. I called and was told "he is on his way." The man hung up on me before I had a chance to respond. He was very rude. 10 minutes later the driver called because he couldn't find the building. For some reason, he was driving the pizza to me. The building is literally around the corner from Sal's and anyone who has spent anytime in downtown crossing knows you can't drive down Winter St. He complained to me that he has gotten $200 in tickets this week. While I feel for the guy, it's not really my problem. There are LOTS of places downtown that deliver on time and walk the food to my office. Ordered two pizzas for delivery through Doordash. The cheese pizza was mishappen, two slices didn't have a crust. The large with bacon, peppers, and onions was extremely messy, the bacon was whole pieces mostly just fat and there were too many peppers and onions so they didn't stay on the pizza. The pizzas were sloppy at best. Disappointed because I'm usually pleased with the walk-in service but this was not a good experience. read more

My husband and I love love love this Sal's. It's a great option if you find yourself downtown wanting a cheap, quick, always-delicious, very filling meal. Location is unbeatable. Prices are cheap. Portions are gynormous ("one" slice is equivalent to two large slices in normal human terms). It is fast, fresh, and there are always lots of flavors ready to pop in the oven (although I almost always get the spinach/tomato/feta kind because it's delish). The people in here are always SUPER friendly. Oh, and if you can manage to save room after your pizza, their chocolate chip cannolis are amazing. The only downside is that there's no seating inside--some ledges you can use as tables if you feel like standing. But if it's a nice day, we always just grab our pizza and walk across to the Common to enjoy. read more

Great gluten free pizza: my girlfriend (wqho can eat normal pizza) didn't even taste the difference. Extremely friendly and funny staff and good pricing while on a prime location. Really good pizza! Huge slices, good quality ingredients, fast service. The pizza slices are 1/4 of the pizza. They heat it up in the oven and then cut it in half for you so the slices are actually manageable. The crust itself is super yeasty and delicious, though it would be a little nicer if the toppings went further up it. The margharita, the spinach, tomato and feta, the bacon and pineapple and the bbq chicken are all approved. I only wish they had seats in the Downtown Crossing store. You have to eat at a counter. Their whoopie pies are also really delicious and super cheap. read more

Walk in and see a beautiful looking slice of cheese pizza, point to it and say I'd like that. He grabs a much smaller older slice and barely heats it up. I took a big school group (about 25 kids) to Sal's. Everything was so easy - the pizzas were ready on time, hot, and the extra large pizzas were huge and perfect for a large group. Service was great and patient with our large group of teenagers. read more

We found Sal's Pizza on a google search while looking for a pizza place Friday night. Online it said it closed at midnight. We got there about 10:40pm and had planned on ordering an XL Pizza. The guy seemed very agitated that we were there so we asked what time he closes. He said 11pm. We explained that we saw 12 on the internet and apologized for coming right before closing. He took an order over the phone and I heard him tell them that they needed to be there by 11. He heard us talking about ordering a whole pizza and he told us we could only order the pizza that was already in the case. We settled for plain cheese and he popped them in the oven. While they were cooking, we saw him making another brand new pizza (but we weren't allowed to order one). We took our pizza and ate it as we walked back to the hotel. The pizza tasted fine but very poor customer service so we won't be returning. read more

This place is right around the corner from my shop so we order from here quite a bit. The pizza always seemed okay but nothing special. My colleague and I were craving pizza yesterday and only wanted one slice so we headed there after our shifts ended. When we got there we asked how much a particular slice was and were told it was over $5. It was at this point we noticed that there were flies all over some of the slices. When we mentioned it to the staff she just shook the pizza so that all of the flies flew away. We were really hungry so even though we were very turned off we ended up having a fresh 12 inch pizza made and paid 12 for it with one topping. Although overpriced, it was good. 2 stars is generous in this case and I hope they make some improvements. read more

About $5 for any slice that isn't cheese, though they boast giving you 1/4 of a pizza, so you will actually receive 2 slices. You can satisfy most appetites with just one slice. This location has great employees who are very friendly and always remember their regulars. They also have salads and some great desserts such as Tiramisu and Whoopie pies. I walk over from the Back bay just to get a slice because their really isn't anything comparable in the Back bay/Beacon Hill or South End. read more

Stopped by here for the first time after the parade today. They had a great selection of pizza by the slice. I went with cheese and a 20 oz bottle of coke which came to 5.76 if I remember correctly. The "slice" was really 2 slices of what a standard large eight slice pizza would be. The cheese, sauce and crust were excellent, however the crust was thick at the edge, too thick in my opinion. If the edge of the pizza had smaller crusts I'd make it a point to come by more often. There is no seating at this location but room to stand and lean if you want to eat there. On a hot summer day like today I'd say to avoid this place because their air conditioner is horrible. It was cooler outside than in the store. Overall not bad, but nothing really to make me come back again except if I were walking by and in the mood for a quick slice. read more

I was gonna give this place a 5 star rating for the pepperoni slice. The slices are huuuuge, but the pepperoni was so good that I wanted to try the cheese. What a disappointing slice of cheese!!! So very little taste to it, no saltiness to it. Maybe that's why I liked the pepperoni so much because the salt really kicked up the flavor a notch. Whatever cheese blend this is, it really needs some added parmesan reggiano. The thin crust was great and the edge had a nice bite to it. I got a slice of chicken broccoli alfredo, which was huge and essentially two slices. The slice was really hard and tasted like it had been made for a while, I went to Sal's around 1 in the afternoon so it should have tasted somewhat fresh. Tasty, sizable slices with a variety of toppings, served up fast by friendly employees. While I do really like the pizza, the main appeal of Sal's is that it's affordable and convenient. Located on Tremont St. near Boston Common and Park St. station, it's the perfect place to grab a quick lunch or a snack. It does attract a fair number of tourists and passersby, but the service is so fast that there's never any line, and since there are no tables or seats (only a standing bar) crowds of people do not accumulate here. It's my go-to place to grab something quick to eat if I'm in this area of Boston and it's never disappointed me. read more

I had a salad here while my kids got pizza. The pizza was ok - very average but the chicken on the salad was absolutely disgusting. It looked like it had freezer burn. I had to throw it away as there was no way I was eating that. The service is terrible too - I understand I ordered a salad at a primarily pizza place - but they do have it and several salad options on thier menu. They just *forgot* about my salad for almost 20 mins and then put it together only at repeated asking (and then I got the nasty chicken on it). I wouldn't recommend going here! read more
