First and foremost I'd liked to applaud you guys for a great pizza! However I'm from the streets and I know what drug use looks like. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble. However a few employees looked high off crystal meth! Now what you do before a shift or on a break is your business. But when dealing with the public it's very important you give the best first impression possible. The kitchen was a mess and i didn't see anyone wearing hair nets or gloves! Which is unsanitary. I almost left. However my son and his team wanted pizza so we stayed. So i said a quick prayer. "God made dirt and dirt don't hurt" and we ended up eating. Pizza was good but i think you guys should have a talk with the crew. Especially the guy in the fox racing dirt bike jersey. He was running the food to tables dripping sweat every where and snorting every 2 seconds like he had allergies. Like I said I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble here! All I'm looking for is some accountability! Because I'd hate to come all the way to New York and miss out on the real Italian authenticity of a real pizza pie because you don't know how to wait until after work to get high. Good luck guys! The main guy behind the counter was absolutely rude and it was not to just us. Two other people told me he treated them the same way. He acted like it was an inconvenience that he had to take our order. A lot like the soup nazi on Seinfeld but not as nice. The place was dirty, tables had not been cleaned off and the wings took forever. We got the rest off our food. The family finished while I waited at the counter. My son came up and relieved me after he ate. I finished eating my pizza the went up front and waited with my son while guy acted like it had only been a few minutes. He said it seem longer when you wait? Not like they were going to bring it out to us. I would not go back if they were the only restaurant in town. read more

This place is so dirty. The cook came out dripping with sweat, another was coughing into a rag he used to take food out of the oven. Everyone is wiping their sweat and face with hands and handling food. They had no garlic, Caesar salad but no Caesar dressing. No garlic to put on the pizza. We got garlic knots but they had not a speck of garlic on them. Tables and floors were filthy. Staff was completely clueless, got no forks or menus. Bathrooms again, disgusting. No matter what you asked for, they didn't have it. Health inspector was actually there while we were there and we almost walked out until we saw her, thinking they might not sweat in our food. I am absolutely appalled with the service at this restaurant. I walk in with my family from out of town excited for some authentic New York pizza. Little did I know we would be treated like dirt. The 3 men working acted like it was such an inconvenience to serve us. WOW sorry we are giving you our business?? I frantically picked a slice as I felt pressure to order quickly. I will not be coming back. Also I asked for a raspberry Snapple flavor only to be treated as a burden for not knowing every flavor. My grandpop cried quietly into his pepperoni slice and sorrow filed throw my veins. Fell shame. I know our field of dreams are shattered forever. At a glance it looks like a nice quick place to grab a good piece of pizza...however with closer inspection you'll find that it's not worth the hassle. The two guys working there look and act like the bad guys from Goonies! They act like they are pissed off that you even bothered to walk in and make them work. I think it's perhaps because there isn't any AC so everyone is sweating their balls off. And there is no soap in the dispenser...which means nobody's washing their hands....I found that out after eating... I asked one of the guys for a spoon to feed my one year old son, and he was obviously upset I interrupted him refilling his own soda... The other man asked me as he walked by if it was for here or to go. I hesitated to answer him because I thought he was talking to the table right next to him( since he said it in passing) and he started pretending to be me in a one person conversation to himself... They were very rude and the facility was gross. Warning to parents braving to bring children to this place...there is no changing station on the bathrooms. read more

This was one of our stops while in Cooperstown for my birthday. We stopped by around 1:00 and the place was pretty busy. The pizzas are pre-made and sitting on a shelf with no heat lamp. We ordered slices of pizza and my wife asked the guy if they had salad- he rudely said "yes- we have everything that is on the menu"- (which is in a bad spot by the way- top right behind the entrance door) They take the cold no heat lamp pizza and pick it up bare handed, place it in the oven to warm it, and then take it out bare handed and put it on a plate. Still tried to eat it, was just not that great. New York Pizzeria was much better. When eating at New York Pizzeria I overheard some other people talking about Sal's and their no heat lamp, slap it in the oven blah pizza. Yes, the staff is grouchy, but harmless. They are slinging pizzas, frying wings, and pouring beer to endless lines of families, baseball players, tourists and locals. The line can be out the door at times, but somehow there seems to be space for everyone at rows of tables, booths and a big outdoor space in the back. If you go with the flow, you'll have a good time drinking beer, watching baseball on tv, and pigging out on big hot slices of New York style pizza. The wings looked really good too. Cooperstown area could use more places like Sal's! read more

Granted, I've never been to New York City (yet) but Sal's Pizza gives West Coast people an idea of how great pizza can be (and how not up to par our pizza is in California.) We stayed in Cooperstown for about a week last summer and visited this pizza joint at least three times. My daughter loved their ravioli, but for the rest of our family, it was all about their thin crust pizza and garlic knots. All of the pizza was good, but my favorite was the lasagna pizza. Soooo good! This joint is just down the street from the Baseball Hall of Fame, so after you tour the museum, stop by this place for a slice. read more

After a long walk about the Hall of Fame, a few of we scouts and parents were famished, and walked down to find a place to eat. Sal's was conveniently located down and across the street. Hot pizza on a cold day? Absolutely right! My son liked his slice, and I went for eggplant parm sandwich, which was also quite good, on fresh Italian loaf with toasted sesame seeds on top. Those orders, with two bottled drinks came to slightly more than $13. Good deal considering the quality and location. The only downside was the the facility was a bit haggard, looking like it had been last improved in late 1980. It needs a spark. Also, the guys up front and who delivered the food to the table couldn't smile, nor offer any kind words to these patrons. Finally, serving a heavy sandwich on a doubled up paper plate is really the wrong message, that "...we don't really care what you think of us, as we probably will never see you again...so why waste any effort on a real plate, and small show of gratitude?" I'm from Brooklyn, and just moved to the area...This is far from NYC pizza. The person I believe to be the owner usually has a look of annoyance whenever someone walks in and order as if as a customer we are bothering him. If you want more customers try smiling when you greet a customer rather than a face of disgust. And your pizza is sub par compared to an average NYC pizza parlor. Crust and dough are usually undercooked and white...pizza crust should have a nice cooked, golden brown color, not pale flour white like it tastes. Only redeeming quality are their garlic knots. Only good they offer that closely represents a half way decent place here in NYC. read more

Came in recently for the first time in a few years. Saw there was a chicken Stromboli which seemed promising so we ordered two. I live down in westchester/nyc and have never paid more than $10 for a HEFTY Stromboli so imagine my shock at being charged $15 per Stromboli at Sal's when they were arguably a step above a hot pocket. In my opinion, there are better places to eat at in Cooperstown if you're just visiting. Skip sals and eat somewhere that follows the prices they have listed and that has semi decent counter service. read more

THIS right here is my MUST stop when I am in Cooperstown! I frequent the Hall of Fame quite a few times a year and always stop off for a couple slices before leaving or in between activities. I have driven to Sal's with an excuse of going to the Hall of Fame...ok, that's not all the way true but it would almost be worth the 90 minute drive from Albany just knowing you are going to get pizza that truly reminds me of my days living on Long Island. Okay- so, this place can seat HUGE groups. Rows and rows of picnic tables outside. Half of them covered. So this is a great team spot. Pitchers of beer- decent selection. Pizza was awesome! The lasagna pizza was super and the white sauce pizza was really tastes. Almost like eating a cheesy flatbread. The guys up front are slammed and hustle. It's kinda gross- they are sweating like crazy. The place is filthy and obviously has not been inspected recently. The restrooms are disgusting ( think truck stop bathroom-except nastier with no soap). But if you have a team and close your eyes when you order and walk through to the back. You'll be good. No one got sick and everyone raves about the pizza. Not sure I would go if we had not needed a big spot for the whole baseball team. read more

The location is good right in middle of all the souvenir shops on Main Street. They had a variety of premade pizzas. I chose Hawaiian with Canadian bacon, bacon and pineapple. You tell them which kind you want then they add more cheese and reheat in their pizza oven. The results are a very dry tasteless pizza. The crust was hard on the end. Another kid ordered a gluten free pizza that supposedly was good as it was made to order. I in good conscious can not recommend. I did like Slice's Pizza in Cooperstown though. read more

I live in NYC and know good pizza. My friend and I went to the Baseball Hall of Fame and stopped for slices afterwards. Let me just say that I have been dreaming of those slices now for weeks. The crusts were so perfectly crispy and the sauce:cheese was perfect. I make it a point to go to Sal's at least once when I am in town from Rochester NY, if not more than once. I've lived in NYC so I know a good slice and Sal's has about the best slices I have ever had!!! The Lasagna slice is one of my favorite's but a plain cheese slice holds it's own. The crust is thin, not too much sauce, amazing flavor. I also love that this is a family owed joint that I have been a patron of since I was 5yrs old. My fiancé and 3yr old came here yesterday with my brother-in-law, his 3 little children, and my father after they went to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The food was good (overall consensus) and would rate it a 4; however, the service was abysmal and would get a 2 which is why they said 3 overall. Not great pizza, mediocre at best. And the workers there were not super friendly or welcoming at all. It wasn't crowded when we got there, and we asked about the calzones if we could get one made, and they just pointed at the ones already premade that have been sitting there for hours. We ordered a pizza to share, and it was just your average chain pizza taste and nothing special or flavorful at all, and tons of grease. It looks like a possible good place to bring a large group like a little league team after a game where the kids might not care about quality. me personally, I would seek out a different place in search of better pizza and better selection of craft beer. read more

Walked in and there were 2 other customers and the owner was manning the counter. Stopped in here a few days ago to grab a regular pie and it's overall a decent place. The menu is pretty vast (like most pizzerias) and they have over a dozen different slice options. The pizza is thin-crust NY style and it's about average overall; it's not terrible, but certainly not anything I would crave. A large cheese pie is $15, so it's about average price-wise. While it has a typical pizza place atmosphere, Sal's Pizzeria's pizza is not a typical pizza. My family and I were impressed by the size of the pizza (probably 33% bigger than what we get at home). At $14 per cheese pizza, it was a pretty good deal. But what I liked most about Sal's pizza was the crust: light and crispy. As one of my 12-year-old twins remarked, "the sauce is a little sweet" which was pleasing to us. And I noticed that it wasn't loaded down with cheese, which made it a little less greasy than most pizzas. I would happily recommend Sal's if you're coming to Cooperstown with the family for a quick and easy meal. read more

I have flown Sal's pizza across the country, yes its true. Forget the hugs from visitors, where are the slices? I do have a certian bias as I grew up on it, but after many many slices around the globe and all through NYC, Sal's still tops my list. Thin crust, excellent balance of sauce, cheese and spices, and if possible gets even better reheated. Their calzones are also fantastic, great combo of several cheeses and fillings, not just a mess of mozz like so many places make. A family friend, a die hard Manhattener for life that buys a slice each time he visits and votes Sales better than any slice in NYC. He even bought a T shirt and this man has been wearing the same jeans for 30 years. Thank you Sals for making my visits home so delicious! read more

We stop here every year and it has become kind of a family joke that the staff is always rude. Who really cares, though--the food is good and your interaction with them is limited, since it's counter service. They've never screwed up an order and we've never been disappointed with our meal.
