I've had pizza all over this country. Sal's is by far the best you can get anywhere. I always stop here when I'm in the area. My wife's sister who lives in Arkansas, takes 3-4 of Sal's pizza home with her on the pane when she visits. Thin crust, and anything you want on it. I've known the owners for years. They are cash only, good for them. It allows them to concentrate on what they do best, Pizza!. It's not a big place, so be prepared to wait on line. Always freshly made for you, so worth the wait. I can't say enough good things about Sal's. A friend out West who grew up in the neighborhood recommended we stop by and have some Sicilian when we were in the area. We didn't know they only took cash. Unfortunately we didn't have an ATM card with us but Steve let us eat and even buy T-shirt's - and allowed us to mail him a check when we got home!!! Who does that?!!! On top of that, the pizza was excellent, crisp crust, plenty of cheese, and great flavor. I will make sure I stop by here when I'm passing through to CT for a bite from now on. Ahhh....Sal's. You bring back my most beloved memories, cheerleading, football players, sicilian & Matt Dillon...(or any of the Dillon boys) and OLD SCHOOL ATTITUDE. This is a no frills, cash only, old school pizza place. Don't expect much from employees, just get your pizza & get off the line. Mamaroneck has changed a lot but Sal's has been around for 50 years & is the center of town. I cannot remember a week without having that crisp DELICIOUS pizza. There is nothing like it & I have tried to find it! I moved but manage to take road trips to Sal's & have introduced a new generation of Jersey boys to this place, including my hubby. This is the best sicilian I have ever tasted, hands down. And the Salad pizza (yes, salad) is their runner up. Rent a car, get your car, jump on the metro...take a road trip! It is so worth it. You can even run it off down Harbor Island, a giant park adjacent to the beach....just don't jump in that water, that is an entire other review on to itself :) read more

It is some of the best pizza in the area and everyone I have shared it with has agreed. Gooey cheese, doughey crust, yummy sauce .. it all comes together at Sal's.. Sal's is consistently rated as one of the best pizza places in Westchester and when you get food from them on a good day I could see why people would say that. However, they're very inconsistent in my opinion and we've gotten pizza from them that was awful on more than one occasion. Their pizza doesn't seem to handle delivery or reheat that well so I'd recommend going to pick up your order yourself. I heard good things about Sal's but never got a chance to pop in until yesterday. After a few bites, I realized that this is now one of my favorite pizzerias in the NY area. All pizza ingredients are the same essentially, but the difference here is that these guys execute it perfectly. Each slice has a crispy, rigid crust which stands up to the gobs of hot cheese, flavorful toppings, and beautiful sauce which was perfect in its simplicity. I'm a Jersey guy who was turned onto this place some 13 years ago. First off their food is terrific. I have had their eggplant sandwiches their chicken parmigiano which is excellent. Their pizza from regular slices to a Salad Pizza are as good as it gets. But for me their Sicilian is tops. Simply put a place to eat pizza and entrees this place is perfect. I am a pizza snob and most places have doughy Sicilian. But NOT Sal's come and try and you will not be disappointed. read more

Seeing all the good reviews on Yelp, I went and realized that I had been to this place before, without knowing its name. For the cheese pie with various toppings, I thought they uniformly needed more of that excellent sauce, often seemed a bit thin, to balance the congealed cheese/greasy texture. The sicilian was better, with tasty doughs to help with the rather scant toppings. I liked the salad pizza, which contrary to initial bland appearance, actually tasted refreshing with a touch of vinegar. To call it the best pizza would be unjust to the numerous excellent pizzerias around New York. The pizza was good, but I found nothing truly special. The sauce was good, and the crust was right, yet I truly think it's only slightly better than generic, and not the "ultimate" that many made it out to be. I live in Mamaroneck, and I love that they are conveniently in town. They are also very reasonably priced and a VERY popular neighborhood joint. However, for real pizza nirvana, you owe yourself to check out Lombardi's in SoHo, or Juliana's in Brooklyn. read more

We got a Sicilian pie for $18 here and I found it to be alright. The slices here are traditional Sicilian style, nothing crazy like L&B's in Brooklyn. The good thing about that is that you know it will taste good and that it will be filling. Bad thing is that there isn't anything that makes it stand out from other pizzerias. The store is divided into two sections, take-out in the front and a dining area in the back. There are two lines for take-out. If you already called in your order for pickup, you go to the line in the back but if you haven't, you order on the line closer to the entrance. This was a great find for a local UberEATS, dine at home experience. We actually didn't even get pizza, but an assortment of Italian meals including chicken and eggplant parmesan, meatballs, stuffed bread, and Caesar salad. Everything was very tasty, of good quality, and the value was excellent compared with what we could have gotten from other local options. The portions were good-sized and they even provided bread with each entree. If this wasn't SAL'S, the benchmark, landmark, hallmark, go to Pizza joint in Westchester, I might have given it 3 stars. The pizza is good, always fresh because they're so busy. That certainly helps. The counter scene is chaotic and the fact that it runs the long way as you enter means there's no clear queue and it seems like regulars and young women always get served first. This is kind of a standard pizza kind of place, not where you go for fig and pancetta or pear and gorgonzola. It's strictly regular or Sicilian with traditional kinds of toppings. Honestly, I don't understand what's so great about this pizzeria. Has it been around for a long time? Sure it has, but I think it's very overhyped. The sauce on the pizza has a very weird sweet taste, and it just doesn't taste good in the pizza. The Sicilian slices are decent, but I really don't like the regular pizza at all The guys that work here are definitely not the nicest. They're very abrupt, blunt and in your face, and act like they could give a crap about the customers. My advice? Go a couple doors down to joes pizzeria. People go crazy over this place. Very good plain and sicilian slice, but surprising. Granted, the place is busy so turnover is high, so pizza therefore will be fresh. Grilled chicken salad is very basic. Romaine, half a plum tomoto, and vinegar and oil (throw in instead on the side for takeout order). Grilled chicken is well cooked and seasoned, thin breast. I just want you to know that it's not personal your place is like the epitome of a pizzeria I don't want to walk into. Let's start with the pizza in general the cheese is cheap oily and doesn't really have any kind of a Savory flavor just a bland Golden Girls salty old time flavor. the cheese reminds me of a cross between elios and Woodlawn Pizzeria. Woodlawn Pizzeria is pretty much the armpit of pizza in New York in my opinion. The crust is a flavorless dry brittle on the outside and Limp as you get closer to the middle of the pizza.I don't think it's poor cooking I think it's just a lack of attention to detail. The sauce is mundane if this was any more flavorless it would be ketchup. What tops it all off is the staff is overly rude and crass to the customers there's no courtesy for them spending money with you. Get it you guys want to be a bronx or Johnny's Pizzeria in Mount Vernon instead you're a cliche Pizzeria in the middle of nowhere Mamaroneck. Went with my wife today and split chicken scarpariello and gnocchi bolognese. Chicken was super tender and sauce was a bit spicy which I personally prefer... Think it would have been better if there were some chunks of sausage and some potatoes but chicken again was tender and delicious. Gnocchi Bolognese was very good. For $30 we got the 2 dishes and 2 sodas. Value well worth it... cash only... Service was very good.. with the millions Sal makes every year I think they should put a few dollars to renovate the inside of the place but make no mistake may be outdated but seems very clean and there is s constant line most of the times to get a slice. Ok foodies, here's a story about my first Sal's Pizzeria Experience. My NYC son in law just had surgery, his only request (which he acknowledged was a difficult one,) was Salad pizza and the Sicilian Pizza. He said his only wish, no plant, no book, just Sal's Pizza. Mind you he is in NYC, I'm in Dallas,Texas, hmmm. Oh and Sal's only accepts cash. Luckily one of the owners with a heart as big as Texas said let me try and from Mamaroneck to NYC! Gotta to love Michael and his can do attitude. He graciously agreed to give it a serious try. If you love pizza and love people who say yes, this is a serious business, that is a role model for others.
