The best local watering hole in North Massapequa. I always stop here numerous times when I visit family. The tap selection is solid and their food isn't just typical pub grub. The burgers are delicious as well as the salads! They do a splendid job with decor, highlighting all the high schools and professional teams in the area. My wife heard about this place from a co-worker, specifically the rainbow cookie cheese cake. As it was our weekly date night we decided to head out not realizing that the Mets, Yankees, and Rangers were playing so this place was packed and there was a 20-30 minute wait. We saw the reviews on yelp and decided to wait, we ended up waiting 35 minutes but the hostesses were always keeping us updated and apologized for the wait. We ended up seating and ordering two burgers. I'm a burger guy and they were good, but I'm not a mustard guy but when I tried their honey mustard I was hooked, my wife saw me struggling to come to terms that I was putting honey mustard on everything because I usually avoid it like the plague. Not only were are burgers well cooked and seasoned but the fries were crispy and the onion rings weren't oily, which i was surprised to find I prefer them this way, just crunchy and tasty. I also have to mention that our server, Bruce, was fantastic, he checked up on us over our dining experience, and you can tell he just really wants to help and make sure everyone is having a good time. I work for the most profitable company in the world, no joke, and we understand the value of customer service and hiring the right people, Bruce brought this 4 star review up to a 5 star review and to top it off the rainbow cookie cheesecake is just that, the creamy smooth cheesecake with the awesome taste and presentation of rainbow cookie. Place is a little dark and looks a little dated. Food was pretty good, but a couple things caught my attention. Server Peggy was wonderful and outgoing. Potato skins were good, and coconut shrimp pretty good (coconut flavor very subtle.) Chicken cordon bleu was good, but the menu said prosciutto and it was clearly ham. My wife's steak was cooked well and had some pretty good flavor. Food could have been better, but still a place I would visit again. read more

Stopped by Sals based on reviews here! My boyfriend and I are from Rhode Island and ate here while passing through. The burgers were great, cooked perfectly and very large portions. The staff was very friendly, including the bartender who recommended a beer to my connoisseur boyfriend, and let him have a free sample. Waitress was personable and attentive. Had a party this weekend here and everything was just great. Cookie the manager was so great to deal with and made sure everything perfect and it was. Food was delicious and the drinks were flowing. Terrible service and management. The waitress spilled 4 drinks on my husband and she didn't even apologize. The owner Sal came over and made a joke saying are you the guy who had the red wine spilled on him, did not even offer to buy us a drink. When the check came they didn't even compensate us until I said something to the waitress. After 20 minutes she came back and said oh here I took your coffee off of the bill. I have been to Sal's Place many times with 6 or 8 of my senior friends from St. James which is less than a mile from Sal's. We have never been disappointed with the service or the food. The same goes for my husband and myself. We do not live near Sal's (we live in Deer Park) but in October, we were there 2 or 3 times for the sauerbraten, which is the best ever! Otherwise, when we are in the area for lunch or dinner we stop by. When my sister was looking for a place to have a shower luncheon for her daughter, I told her about Sal's. The shower was last weekend and again everything was perfect. The food was excellent, the service was professional and friendly and the price was right. Impeccable track record ruined by bad service. My fiancé and I went there Saturday night for our date night. Normally sals is one of our favorite places to go out. it's a great cozy a little bar/restaurant the hostesses always accommodating and friendly and I've had almost everything on the menu at this point and everything is impeccable and delicious. we pick sals specifically because we are scouting for restaurants to have our rehearsal dinner and of course here was first on the list. being a Saturday night we completely expected to wait, the hostess was kind enough to let us know it would be about 40 minutes which was reasonable. when we were finally seated the waitress ( I'll spare her name to spare her the embarrassment ) came over took our drink order and took our appetizer. My fiancé and I commented to each other how she seemed very nice and very sweet and we both expected a pleasant evening. that's the end of the kind things I would have to say. we waited longer than usual for for entrée which was missing the house salad, another 10 minutes to receive ketchup for his burger, after we'd clearly finished another 30 minutes for plates to be cleared, even more time going by to be asked if you would like coffee or dessert. at one point we decided to make a bit of a game of it and set it a timer 28 minutes to receive lukewarm coffee and an additional 15 to receive the incorrect dessert order. On A busy night it would be understandable that service will be slower than usual however as we sat without food and with dirty dishes in front of us we noticed that the place completely emptied out. we also noticed that other tables weren't receiving service. This wasn't just a bad night for the restaurant this was a bad server who was clearly inexperienced and unobservant. I regret to say that It tarnished my image of Sals and will definitely cause for us to think twice if we want to come back. while the food and drinks are reasonably priced and generously portioned, we are only fortunate enough to take ourselves on a date and splurge once or twice a month and I would hate to have this taste left in our mouth until Valentines.. read more

Ok so at 9:50 pm I was starving after doing massive construction work at my house. So I took one of my workers to Sals Place. I ordered the chicken cesar salad wrap and my worker ordered a burger with red pepper,lettuce tomatoe. He and I couldn't of been any happier with the food and drinks. My cesar rap was stuffed with chicken and hia burger weighted a pound. Even the french fries were excellent. We sat at a packed bar and the tender was the nicest and funniest. And on top of his game. Just how often are you lucky enough to visit a restaurant and each and every aspect of the night was great. First stop was the bar for a pre diner drink. The bartender was friendly and made us feel right at home. After a few cocktails it was off to the dining room for dinner. Our waiter really seemed to enjoy is job. Went here on a Wednesday evening around 7pm. There was a pretty big bar crowd and there were only a few free table so we had to wait a couple of minutes. We ordered burgers which you would think would be fairly quick but it took forever for our food to Come out. The burgers were alright, nothing to write home about, and the fries were good and crispy. We visited the other night for the first time but didn't know what to expect. It is a local neighborhood pub located inside a strip of stores. We were pleasantly surprised. 4 of us started at the bar for a cocktail before dinner. The bartender was friendly and spoke with us as if we were regulars. Felt very welcome. After a few cocktails we decided to sit for dinner. The hostess was also very friendly and seated us immediately. We were again greeted by our waiter who was all smiles and showed that he really enjoyed his job. The owner, Sal also stopped by the table to ensure all was well. WOW! In todays day and age, this type of service is tough to come. What made this all complete was the quality of food that we ordered. The servings were large and all was fresh and tasty. To find a local pub that has this food quality and excellent service is a rare find. Usually it only has one or the other, if your lucky. One of the best pubs I've been to in sometime. Went here tonight with my father and his girlfriend. The atmosphere is very friendly and the decor is subtle, it makes you feel right at home. I was hoping to find chicken parmesan because last time I was there they had it on the special menu but I didn't have it and was hoping to have it this time. It wasn't on the menu. I mentioned this to our waiter but the waiter told me that he'll see what the chef could do. I learned that they're very accommodating here because the chef went out of his way to whip me up a chicken parm on top of rigatoni. The chicken was very tender and the cheese was melted on perfectly. The pasta was good too. I tried some of the french fries my dad got with his meal and they were very good. Even the bill for all of us added up to 76 dollars, it was worth it because we all got a good meal. I left a message on the (paper) placemat saying "thank you for a good meal :)" and we left with happy memories. Will come here again definitely! read more

Sals is a great neighborhood restaurant where you dont have to travel far from home to have a great meal. The buffalo wings are delicious and I don't know what the chef does to their soups but they are amazing! I have never had a bad soup here ever, especially love the butternut squash bisque! I usually order their penne ala vodka and theirs is spectacular. It is super creamy( similiar to a mac and cheese texture) with alot of flavor and a huge portion. If you like your penne ala vodka bland well then dont get it here! Their hamburgers are also amazing and they have a huge variety of them . What can I say about Sal's Place? By far this is one of my Favorite Places to go with my family or friends. Delicious food with plenty of options to choose from. We love this bar. We come here often for drinks as well as for meals. The bar is a very comfortable atmosphere with great bartenders who really get to know their customers. If you don't want to sit at the bar, behind a partition is a sit down restaurant. They have great food and not just bar food, but real entrees and dinner specials.
