After a couple of beers, I was thinking about switching to a martini and playfully asked the bartender, "How are your martini skills?" That was it. Instead of taking it in the lighthearted spirit in which it was intended--or even simply saying she didn't appreciate the question--the bartender reacted as though I'd said something deeply offensive. She walked away visibly upset and refused to serve me. What made the experience particularly strange was what happened next. The other bartender came over to find out what was going on. I explained exactly what I'd said and that there was no insult or disrespect intended; I was literally just opening a conversation about ordering a martini. Rather than defusing an incredibly minor misunderstanding, she doubled down, insisted that my question was somehow inappropriate, and reinforced the refusal to serve me. At that point, I left. I've spent plenty of time in bars and restaurants, and I can't remember another experience where such an innocuous interaction was interpreted with this much hostility. People misunderstand each other sometimes. Professional hospitality means giving a customer a reasonable benefit of the doubt, communicating like an adult, and resolving a minor misunderstanding--not immediately assuming ill intent and escalating it. What concerns me most is that this wasn't one bartender having an off moment. Both bartenders independently chose escalation over hospitality, which makes me wonder whether this reflects a broader culture problem. As a new neighbor, that's especially disappointing. I genuinely want the businesses in this neighborhood to succeed. But hospitality requires a baseline level of professionalism, emotional intelligence, and generosity toward customers. Based on this experience, I won't be returning.

Barrel House sits in a prime location and the moment you walk in you understand why. Friendly staff, a gorgeous waterfront view and a happy hour menu that actually delivers, not just on price but on quality. I ordered the flat iron steak sandwich and an espresso martini. Both were handled with care. The espresso martini was exactly what I asked for listened to and delivered. The steak sandwich genuinely impressed me. My concern going in was whether I'd be fighting through thick bread and a tough cut of steak and that battle never came. Perfectly cooked, right temperature, tender enough to bite through cleanly without losing half the sandwich in the process. A small thing that makes a big difference. The experience only got better from there. We moved to the waterfront to order dessert and watch the waves roll in and the hostess accommodated without hesitation or attitude. That kind of easy, gracious hospitality is what turns a good meal into a full memory. Sausalito charmed us completely and Barrel House set the tone perfectly. Already planning a return.

This place is no where near a four star restaurant. The calamari was a small portion and was not served with a traditional marinara. The breeding was soggy and not crisp at all. I ordered the seafood spaghetti and my wife order and omelette. The seafood pasta was terrible. The noodles themselves were fine buuuut the seafood was of poor quality the clams and mussels were mealy. They served it with one shrimp and one scallop. The salmon in the dish had a weird plastic-y taste. I had only a few bites since I was so hungry but decided I would go somewhere else and get a meal I could enjoy. My wife's omelette. Was runny and under-cooked. We both left this restaurant hungry and went else where to find something more edible. read more

My husband and I went there and we had a very rude waiter. We complained to management and they made excuses for the waiter. The food is very expensive and not worth the price at all. We were hungry on the way home and spend 75 dollars for very tiny size portions . Very disappointed when we got our entrees which were 2 bite size portions.
