Double scoop (the coffee ice cream is GREAT!)
    Eric I.

We've come here 2-3 times in the past few weeks and have enjoyed it each time. The staff is friendly and the ice cream flavors are truly unique. And though some can sound weird, none of the ones we tried were at all off-putting or seemed to be weird for the sake of being weird. They were just creative and unexpected. In a world where you run across the typical flavors more often than not, even at independent ice cream shops, having these unique combinations is a great option to have. In the past, we'd had Chocolate Caramel Smoked Budino and Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper. The highlight of this visit was the coffee - great and I'd order it every time. It's best to get a double and share, IMO. The extra cost for a big extra scoop isn't that much, versus getting two single scoops. If you know the other person well that is. Love to come back again. Worth a splurge to get some really creative flavors and stay cool on hot days.

Salt and straw has some really unique flavors and they change them up monthly. I love the honey lavender as my all time favorite flavor. They tend to add more savory or salt/umami flavors in their ice cream which can sometimes be hit or miss. Service is excellent, they let you taste a few flavors before choosing what you want and their portions are very large! Ambiance: some standing room inside, there are benches outside to sit on, but no tables. I really love how quaint down town los gatos is, so it's fun to walk around the area if you have time. Parking is free. They have a bathroom available inside the store.

Came here last Friday afternoon with my husband to share a double scoop. We had been here before, but only realized recently that you could get a free double scoop by joining their rewards program. The store always looked clean. They had 3 benches inside, and some outside as well. It's interesting to look at the various merchandise items inside the store. Service was always friendly and efficient. We had Chocolate Caramel Smoked Budino, and Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper this time. Both were pretty good. The chocolate one was a bit too sweet for me, though. I always liked their bold flavors, creative combinations, and that they would use high quality real ingredients. Serving size was very generous. While the double scoop (costing only $2 more) was definitely a better deal than the single scoop, I would stick with a single scoop if I were to come here by myself, because of the high calories, saturated fat and sugar content. It's definitely an indulgence to enjoy only once in a while. Since we didn't come here too often, it's always exciting to see new limited edition flavors every time we came. Sometimes they would have last chance flavors, too.

After a nice hike and great lunch with friends, we wanted to get a sweet treat. Ice cream seemed to be calling our names, so we came over. Parking in the lot can be tough, as there are plenty of retail/restaurants in this area. Luckily, we had all parked earlier for our hike and just walked over here from lunch. A few of us parked in this lot, so it was a great place to end our time together. After looking through the menu, I decided I wanted to spoil myself and got a double scoop on a waffle cone. I ended up with raspberry white chocolate cheesecake and freckled mint chip. First of all, I underestimated the size of the scoops - wow! There was plenty - I think I might do the split scoops next time. I loved both flavors - the mint chip was a classic flavoring I love and the raspberry cheesecake was tart and fresh. The staff who helped me was fantastic - polite, friendly and helpful when I had some questions about the flavors. The store is relatively big with many different varieties of flavors lined up. On one side, there's a big freezer that you can grab some pints to go while on the other side - a cute little shop of sorts selling merchandise, giftcards and goodies to go. There is a clear set up for lines and some seating inside as well as outside for guests to enjoy their treat. Overall, we all enjoyed what we got. I think I need to stop by more often! It's been a few years since I've had Salt & Straw (different location) and now I am reminded of the many great things about them!

Came here to try savory ice cream for the first time in my life! Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the staff behind the counter were very patient and helpful as I tried a couple of flavors before deciding on a combo. I really like how they offer the option for a split scoop here so you can squeeze in two flavors into one small cup. I went with the arbequina olive paired with the gruyere and tomato tart (which I think had some bacon bits in it as well?) Absolutely delicious combo and I can't wait to try whatever savory flavor specials pop up on the menu next month! Hopefully they'll do some Gilroy Garlic-style ice cream one of these months just for fun :)

Matcha Matcha Man & Vanilla Custard with Butterscotch Swirls

I kind of have an obsession with Salt & Straw--and honestly, I'm not mad about it. I love trying out funky flavor combos (people always look at me weird when I say Salt & Straw's olive oil is my favorite), and their limited monthly menus never disappoint. May's lineup was especially fun. The Los Gatos location was the best experience I've had with Salt & Straw. The staff was super friendly and patient and let us sample all five of the May flavors, including chocolate peanut butter chili crisp and coffee chamomile. I ended up getting the matcha matcha man, and it totally surprised me. The matcha isn't super strong, but it's perfectly balanced with sea salt and a bit of orange citrus. My boyfriend got the vanilla custard with butterscotch swirls, which tasted like real custard--creamy and eggy in a good way. Salt & Straw never stops coming up with creative, unique flavors, and I'll keep coming back for more.

I don't think I've ever had anything but a good experience at a Salt & Straw, and this LG location isn't any different! Friendly staff, incredible & innovative ice cream flavors, vegan selection, non-plastic sample spoons, and generous scoops! My husband and I popped in recently to grab a pint of our favorite flavor, Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip (vegan), which by the way won over everyone at my mother-in-law's birthday dinner a couple of months ago (even the non-vegan adults & kiddos)! We also came in last month for their Valentine's Day BOGO special, which was a treat to say the least! Shout out to Brie who was very friendly and enthusiastic about new flavors we asked about, as well as the girl at the register was also super friendly (didn't get her name, but they both were working in the early evening on 2/14/25 and she's in one of the photos I added to this review). The only thing that's sometimes a bummer is their late hours of operation: 1pm-10pm Mon-Thu, and 12pm-11pm Fri-Sun. The first time we came here, it was before noon on a weekday and we didn't realize at the time it wasn't open until 1pm. It would be great if they opened at least by noon, and maybe close a tad bit earlier, because who's really getting ice cream at 10 or 11pm, right? Maybe people in Los Gatos like late night ice cream runs, who knows! ;)

First time at this location, I usually go to the Valley Fair location. I came here with a family and we had fun trying the interesting flavors they had for summer. I tried a pickle sorbet and it was not for me. I ended up being so basic and got vanilla and a cherry topping. I know these cherries are good and expensive but it was a little sad only getting one small cherry. Maybe have two options and offer the cheap cherries too. Either way, it was delicious and I'll come back for their fall series soon.

    Katie R.

It's always fun to venture into Salt & Straw and see what unique flavors they have in rotation. I've been to a couple other locations either in Portland or California at different times of the year and it seems to be pretty consistent that they always have their regular staple flavors, and then some more seasonal flavors. I visited this location in the fall, and sure enough they had their Halloween flavors ready to go! The service here was great! The young guy working was eager to talk about any and all of the flavors that people had questions about, and offer samples galore. After trying a few, I ended up getting a pint of one of their staple flavors to bring home. The shop is located in downtown Los Gatos' Old Town. The shop is spacious, though parking here can be limited if you come by on a weekend or evening. Good thing there's two other parking lots and some small garages nearby.

salty, crumbly, creamy, THICK. they do not play with their quality here. finally an ice cream that doesn't melt within 5 minutes of receiving. they have way more interesting flavors too. there was a matcha one i tried with chocolate covered cricket a while back for halloween. VERY GOOD

Nice Salt and Straw location in a pretty part of downtown. I would have liked to have a water station (especially for the summer), but overall this was a standard, good experience with friendly employees. The plaza outdoors is picturesque and has some benches, but I would have like the option of having some indoor seating. As is always the case with Salt and Straw, their ice cream is on the pricier and more "foodie" side of the spectrum. Would recommend checking out their monthly flavor series of rotating ice cream flavors (you can also find it on their website)!

We had to see if they had any, and luckily there was exactly one left! We bought it to have for breakfast the next morning. I'll admit, I was a little nervous because it was packaged in a bag and I wasn't sure how well it would hold up overnight. But the next morning, we basically fought over who was going to get the biggest piece. It was still flaky and delicious, and there was chocolate in every bite. The chocolate was in strips through the middle rather than spread throughout the entire pastry, but there was still enough that we never had a bite without chocolate. It ended up being such a sweet way to start our last day in town. They had so many other pastries and desserts that looked absolutely amazing, but we had just eaten lunch and knew we were heading back out for the day, so we didn't want to risk buying something that might melt in the car. If you're in Los Gatos and love chocolate croissants as much as we do, definitely stop in! And if there's only one left...don't hesitate. Grab it!

The space has a modern yet warm feel with beautiful natural wood finishes, fresh loaves of sourdough lining the shelves, pastries displayed in the case, and a mix of large communal wood tables, regular seating, and high-top tables. It's the kind of café that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. The staff was friendly and helped us choose both a pastry and our toast. They were also happy to customize our order--we asked for the levain sourdough toast with butter instead of the usual olive oil. That toast was absolutely divine. The sourdough had the perfect balance: chewy without being too sour, with a crust that was crisp but not so hard that it fought back. Easily the best sourdough toast I've had in the Bay Area. If you come here, this is the one thing you have to order. The only disappointment was the butter. They serve French butter, but for an extra $2, the portion was tiny and honestly nothing special. I've had better butter from Whole Foods. It didn't take away from how incredible the bread was, but it wasn't worth the upcharge. Their Kouign-amann is also one of the best I've ever had. Instead of the typical flat, flaky style, theirs is taller with countless buttery layers that create an amazing texture. The cappuccino was another highlight. It had subtle notes of orange peel, whiskey, and cardamom, making it unique. The latte art was beautiful too. Overall, Manresa Bread is one of those cafés that makes you want to sit down with a laptop or a book and spend a few hours there. The only downside is there are no power outlets, so come with a full battery if you're planning to work. Must orders: Levain sourdough toast with butter and the Kouign-amann. Both are worth the trip.
