Five years later and we are back! What a wonderful little place overlooking Ilwaco Harbor. We walked into a packed first floor lunch crowd, and both servers greeted us and 10 others and put on our names on the waiting list. Less than ten minutes to wait and we were called and brought upstairs where only one other couple was already seated. While the views from downstairs are great with all window seats, the view of the harbor and the ships coming and going from upstairs can't be beat. A full bar and wonderful choices on the menu are what bring it all home. Drinks from the bar are hand made and generously poured. Locally grown(??) wait staff are very friendly, answered all of the typical questions before we asked them and were very attentive, checking on us throughout our relaxing lunch break from exploring the peninsula. She, ordered rock fish and chips with a margarita. He, ordered fried oysters And a cup of loaded potato soup with a Bloody Mary. I think this is exactly what we had the last time we visited, we know what we like, and Salt knows how to make it how we like it! It is worth stating again, the bar here does things right; hand muddled fresh ingredients, proportioned correctly. No soda fillers. No canned mixers. The Bloody Mary here is one of my absolute favorites! Spicy because of the horse radish they add. So good! The food is done perfectly. Fresh seafood, prepared with experience and attention to quality, delivered by friendly knowledgeable wait staff with a million dollar bay view! I don't think it gets any better than this! read more

I am writing to review the Hotel. We did not get a chance to check out the pub but it looked fun and smelled incredible! The location is perfect in a very small, cute harbor town. We called to get a same day room reservation and Layla (sp?) the owner was so kind and flexible with us! The room is small but clean and comfortable. It was perfect for us and our two dogs. It was well appointed with minimalist decor, local and earth friendly toiletries and a coffee maker. The hotel is right off the small boardwalk and makes for an easy, scenic stroll. The hotel is about 5 minutes from Long Beach and a pretty 20 minute drive from Astoria. We will definitely be back and will surely tell all of our friends about this hidden gem. Went to try this place out with my husband because they appeared to have decent ratings. We split a regular Mac and cheese and salad and our daughter had a Mac and cheese and fries. We communicated to the waiter that we were vegetarians with specific food needs and thought things would be fine as we were the only people in the restaurant at this time. When we received our food, it had TONS of crab in it. I am allergic to crab. When I mentioned this to the waiter he tried to deny that there was crab in it, until we pulled out a giant chunk of claw meat and then it was made pretty apparent that it was in fact crab. The fries my daughter had with her food had also obviously been cooked with meat, and the grilled cheese she had tasted like it was cooked immediately after a burger. If you have specific food needs, cross contamination concerns, or allergies, avoid! read more

This place was busy on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but we were greeted warmly and escorted to the last open table, which had a great view of the marina and street fair below. The salmon fish and chips special was very good, although the "chips" could have been hotter. The almond and coconut encrusted rockfish sandwich was tasty thanks to the mango & pineapple salsa and remoulade. This place was right near our Airbnb so we chose it our first night in Ilwaco simply for convenience and were surprised by how delicious it was. The menu is simple but the fish was very fresh and the French fries were possibly the best I've ever had! Simply AMAZING! We checked in to the hotel for a night at the coast. Never been here before. Decided to grab a quick drink and ended up ordering two bowls of clam chowder. Hands down ... the best clam chowder we have ever had. After a long walk aroumd the water front and a nap we looked up restaurants nearby. We ended up going to a couple other places and then decided to just come back to the Salt. Great decision! My girl got the clam poutine and I got the bacon bbq burger. Truly amazing food. Great food and beautiful views - what more can you ask for?! My husband and I were hanging out in Longbeach and found this place on yelp and we were pleasantly surprised to find such a chic place by the harbor. My husband got a cheeseburger and I got the special which was the crab cake sandwich. Oh my gosh- it was amazing! I'm usually one that can't finish a meal but I cleaned my plate that day. A little disappointed they were out of crab as it was the crab mac n cheese I was after, but back up choice of Willapa Bay poutine was a great one! Delicious and seriously loaded with clams. Great food! Mediocre (at best) service. Visited on a not-too-busy Sunday for lunch and our waitress was not-so-excited to be at work. Husband had albacore fish and chips, I had the shrimp and crab roll. Both dishes were AWESOME and I'd definitely go back. After ordering our food the only time we saw a server was at bill paying time. No water refills, no iced tea refills for me. No questions about whether our meal was good. Let me say this, of the few nice places in the area, this is one! I really love SALT, it's cosy, great atmosphere, great service and ... good food! But last night I was hugely disappointed in my food, only mine. We were 3, one ordered a burger, the other some sushi rolls and my order was 2 hand rolls. Here's what each "hand roll" looked like and comprised of: a square of seaweed, kindof folded over like a wrap would kindof be when sides are not tucked in, about a tbsp of rice, one piece of salmon (sashimi size), a piece of avocado (requested to be added in). That. Was. It. $8 EACH!! (They might even have charged extra for the avocado, I didn't even check). My friend's sushi roll was at least 6" long, sliced of course, at a reasonable price of $7. I didn't want to make it obvious by taking a picture, that would just put a damper on the fun evening that we had. But honestly Salt, you failed big time last night by offering those two pathetic hand roll attempts to me, and then totally failed once more for charging me $16 basically for two slivers of salmon. If you don't know how to make a hand roll, take it off the menu. Do your costing right, but what you presented to me last night, at that price, was shocking. Other than that Salt has always been a great place to go to. I just won't order hand rolls (my favorite!) again, and won't recommend anyone to do so until I know Salt knows how to make it. Solid meal with an awesome view of the illwaco harbor. Nice staff and clean tables were ready when we got there. Appetizer was very good and it was hot when it hit the table. Beer was not as cold as advertised, but they have a very good wine selection mainly from the Walla Walla area. I took a star off as my burger had a patty that was way too small for the bun and the veggies could not save it. My wife had a great meal and was very satisfied. So excited to be near this place for the summer and when we travel to ilwaco! We tried this place and it was so worth it! The service and waitress answered my many questions in the off season and as we drove over the bridge trying to figure the menu on a random Sunday afternoon! She was so helpful, kind, gave great suggestions, and was so professional! It was super easy to get our order in and pick up was breeze! It's a unique looking place and back of the hotel with a different pick up area from where you're ordering. Can't say what eating in the restaurant would be like but my husband who picked it up said the view was beautiful of the ocean and marina area! We got enough food for everyone we visited and us! We enjoyed our food very much and our friends were very happy with their choices as were we! I am still thinking about the bacon marmalade on my breakfast burger two weeks later, it is that good! The egg was perfectly fried and the beef was deliciously juicy and cooked to perfection with perfectly melted tillamook cheese! Our fried oysters were amazing and were gone within a minute of opening the to go box! The fish and chips were good and the fries were definitely home made but a few weren't cooked enough in our daughters fish and chips and with my breakfast burger which was unfortunate but was outweighed by the ones that were cooked which were salty and decadent. The fish the fish and chips was battered perfectly and crunchy. The friend who had the short rib stew inhaled their stew and complimented it's meat and veggie ratio and didn't share because it was too good! I can't wait to eat here again and now that we have a summer place in ilwaco I can't wait to pick this place for my nights off from cooking! Salt is a low-key, friendly pub situated upstairs in a motel (no elevator). It's a great location overlooking the Ilwaco marina. There's no outdoor seating, but terrific full windows. Now, the tables are those higher ones that require a bit of a heft to get up into them -- if you're short. I want to give this place more stars, but the food is just very average. I had crab cakes, and I think the crabs are still in the pots out there somewhere! The menu is not large, but it's adequate. Service was excellent; food was timely served. It's nice after eating to walk along the marina and go into all the little shops. Parking: free ample parking across the street. read more

Salt Pub is one of my favorite spots my husband and I visited on our honeymoon. The food and service were both exceptional. Delicious daily local specials, the kitchen was also super accommodating making us off menu items and even noticed I had an injured leg and made me an ice pack. The people working here go above and beyond - they are genuinely nice and easy to connect with in a meaningful way. Getting to know our barkeep Jim over the few days we stayed, along with Savannah on our last day was a real highlight. The food is amazing, but we would definitely come back for the people and the friendly experience alone. Not to mention the breathtaking view. Great food and great service. Very much enjoyed this little pub. We brought our toddler with us, and because all of their tables are tall, they had no high chairs available. That was very frustrating...trying to eat with a toddler on your lap, constantly trying to wiggle down. I don't think families are their target, so this might not be an issue for them. We went for a late lunch yesterday. There was only one other couple besides us. Other reviews have mentioned that the wait was long; our food seemed to take a normal amount of time. We asked before we ordered if the tuna was fresh and the waiter told us yes. We ordered the tuna fish & chips and the tuna melt. The fish and chips tasted really fishy and we didn't think it was fresh. When the waiter came by to ask how things were, my husband told him the tuna didn't really taste fresh. His answer? "Ugh, I'm tired of arguing with people today" as he turned and walked away. Seriously? And that was the last we saw of him. A waitress brought our check by when we were finished. The food was OK, the view is stunning, but we were so taken aback by the waiter's response we probably won't be back. read more
