Coming to Long Beach is like coming upon a sleepy, old fashioned harbor town stuck in the past. Finding out that Salt is here, and right on the waterfront, was a major plus. It's located within the hotel, which is a very simple, motel-like, under 15 unit establishment. It's theme is modern, with of a bit of farm-to-table, rustic industrial vibe. Both the bartender and server were awesome, and provided both great conversation and recommendations despite them being super busy. That aside, if you like tuna, GET THE TUNA MELT. It's pretty much the best thing I've had on bread... pretty much ever. And if the Rhuberry Blonde beer is available, it's quite literally a strawberry rhubarb party in your mouth. read more

I'M BAAACCKK! After a 1.5 year YES 1.5 year break from Salt I decided today was the day to try it again with my mother in law no less. If you read my last review you can understand why. So I read recent reviews and finallly thought that they might have their act together again. Luckily it paid off! Sat outside and had great service immediately and attentively by Brianna. Cheese curds we're back to the quality and quantity they used to be, little puffs of Heaven. My MIL had been jonesing for fresh Tuna since we watched local documentary Battlefish Wars. So she had fried tuna fish with salad. She loved the light batter and the strawberry vinaigrette on the salad- she wanted some to take home. I tried the cheeseburger again since that had been awesome and then so bad before. Redemption! Mostly- great fresh meat and ciabatta roll. Needed just a tad more seasoning but was cooked perfect. Bun needed better toasting and a bit too big for the meat but still fresh. Our server decided to share my sabbatical story with the now manager Rachel. Cool ambience with indoor/outdoor seating. Great service. I had the fish and chips that was sooooo good. My reviews on French fries are probably tiresome but they had the best hand cut fries! The halibut was thick and meaty and fried to perfection. So, the only thing I wouldn't recommend is the beer cheese soup. It was very salty, to the point of being inedible. We did not complain and I definitely don't want to take away from their rating. But, I would lay off the salt. read more

Oh. My. Gosh. Hands down the best Cubano sandwich I've ever had! The pork is just the right texture and the stone mustard and pickles are perfection! Huge serving of seasoned fries are to die for. Husband had the crab and shrimp roll, almost a knife and fork sandwich. Bun was toasted perfectly and the combination of seasonings did not overpower the flavor of the seafood. Well done! Mother in law had the most AMAZING steamer clam chowder, we all tried it and there isn't anything bad to say about it! For $12 you get 20 clams and huge chunks of potatoes. st in for lunch here about 2 months ago and it was actually pretty good but tonight we stopped by about 7:20pm (the hours when we called said 9:00pm on Fridays) and we walked in past the wait staff and bartender who both smiled as we seated ourselves at a table because the bar was full...waitress came to our table and informed us that they were "actually closed" because "it's been empty since 4:00pm" if I remember correctly when an establishment has their open sign on and pat Ron's inside drinking alcohol they are open otherwise they are in violation of Washington liquor control law. We went a few miles up the road to a place with only 4 customers inside and we were well received and served and spent well over $100 glad we went there and we will not be returning to or recommending the salt pub to anyone. We were driving through, just having done the hike to the north to the lighthouse. We stopped because we were hungry, not because we did any research. What a happy result! Our server was delightful and we had a great outdoor table overlooking the marina on a lovely summer afternoon. We ordered the tuna sandwich and house salad plus a wine and n/a beer. Our server joked that the sandwich would be "life changing" and it was indeed absolutely delicious, as was the salad with lime ginger dressing. Such a wonderful experience all around. Good service in a very tiny venue at the back of an old motel. Be sure to reserve a day ahead or be prepared to wait a long time for a table as the secret's out for this being a quality food spot. To be honest, it was one of the only restaurants open, so we took a chance! A bit crowded and because they were just transitioning to a seating list it got a bit confused, by all good in the end. Once seated everything was great. Our server Kenny, was friendly and efficient. My wife ordered the tuna melt with fries and I had the salmon chips with side salad. Both meals were truly delicious. I sampled the tuna melt and it was the best I ever had. Kenny explained it was locally caught fresh and smoked in the restaurant. The beer batter on my salmon was perfect! Not too mealy but with a perfect crispness! We ordered the berry cobbler desert and it was also delicious and a good sized portion for the price, easily shareable by 2 or more. Cute little pub but food was just alright. Hubby ordered the house salad which was good, large portion and fresh. I ordered the special of the day soup: potato leek with mushroom. There was 3 pieces of mushroom in the broth and not a single potato in this large bowl of soup. I asked the waitress where the potatoes are at and she came back from the kitchen telling me they are "in there chopped up small"...‍ She did end up coming back with a small bowl a few minutes later with mushrooms and potatoes (chipped up pretty large actually) and said she had the kitchen scoop up as much as they could for me. So she fixed the mistake in the end but that type of bowl of "soup" should never have been sent out. We also had the Cuban sandwich. Fries were nice and crispy. Sandwich was big enough for the two of us to share. The waitress could be a bit more friendly but maybe she was just having a rough day, they are probably understaffed just like every other place is. read more

Excellent date night dinner with brisket poutine and oysters. Poutine was piled high with lots of fresh herbs adorning the top. I was so in love with the cheese curds on it and the brisket was Smokey and melt in your mouth yummy! Oyster shooters were fresh and excellent. Best halibut fish and chips we have had in a very long time!!!! Totally recommend coming to this restaurant. They made room for our 4 dogs and the 3 of us for outdoor seating with a fantastic view of the boats and marina. Service was excellent! Nice staff.... We drove all the way up to this restaurant from Oregon City For my Birthday, after seeing they had pretty good reviews and seafood. The drinks were good. The special was completely inedible, soggy bun, cold fries, and cold meat, my son sent that back and was credited a children's chicken strip. Those were good the fries came out warm, oily and mushie. I ordered the Clams and now all I can taste and burp is that massive Chuncks of garlic from the broth. The ceviche was made with the tiniest shrimp, and it came out tasting like lemon and that is it. I ordered the bean and mushroom bowl that came out microwaved, plopped together and inedible. Our waitress was nice but I asked to talk to the manager and she wouldn't come over and said it was good enough that they gave my son chicken strips and took my bean and mushroom bow off the order. I have never complained at a restaurant before but this was absolutely not worth it. How they have as many stars as they do is beyond me. Worst 81 dollars I have spent getting food. read more

The hotel is quiet and quaint. A stones throw away from all there is to do in Long Beach. Absolutely love the location. Close to everything but quiet like you're far from everything. The bay view is fantastic. Customer service is hands off which we loved but when you need them they are the best. Passive checkin where they leave the key under the pillow is great for us because we always arrive at weird times. The restaurant food is good and convenient but expensive. We got steamed clams and halibut fish and chips and the fish and chips were 27.99 which wasn't priced on the menu. Definitely get fish and chips in town for larger portions and my sh cheaper. But we will definitely stay here again. read more

I went there for lunch with Friends and the food was ok... service was not the best. Here is why I gave it 2 stars. Don't get the crab hush puppies no crab what so ever.... but because we were so hungry we ate it any way. They were good Basic hush puppies but I would have not called them crab since we did not see an ounce of crab meat in them. 2nd issue was it took us forever to get our drinks and food. People who came in after us got there food and drinks before us. The server wasn't the best either. Lastly the tuna fish and chips were dry and over cooked. The good parts were the beer and drinks were good when we finally got them. The Brussels sprouts was good too along with the Po-boy. The fried oysters were cooked perfect but make sure to ask for extra sauce on the po-boy because it hardly had any on it. The best thing is the view of the Port of Ilwaco although that has gotten worse since no seating on the 2nd floor for expansive views towards the Colombia River. The smoked tuna melt ($16) tasted like canned tuna, no smoke flavor and dry to the point it fell apart when eating it and no creamy binder so the mouthfeel was very dry. My friend had halibut fish and chips & dark brown fried and greasy, it was upwards of $22. The bartender forgot to add the alcohol in the specialty drink and our bill was incorrect. 3-4 years ago it was much better. All 5 in my party agreed it was time to move on and leave Salt for the tourist. read more

My husband's first comment was that he has never had dinner at a motel before. :-) We took the bridge from Astoria over to Salt and it was a nice ride, about 40 minutes. Beautiful huge windows look out at the marina and is a great place to sit and watch the boats launch. The albacore fish and chips were outstanding. Thick pieces of fish were fresh and lightly battered. I would highly recommend the fish. Skip the dungeness crab fritters as there were very few tiny pieces of crab in them and not tasty at all. My husband and I had lunch here a month ago and loved the halibut fish abs chips abs burger. We loved it so much we brought my father in law for his birthday. Although they didn't have halibut today they had salmon and even offered to grill instead of fry which was a hit. I had the pan fried oysters, others had tuna melt and clam chowder. I don't understand any rating above, which is the lowest they will let me post. This place isn't boutique, it's cheap. They cut down on 'waste' by not providing trash container in the rooms. The pub moved downstairs, why you ask? They don't want the extra charge of having to have food and provisions carried up stairs. I wouldn't stay here if it was the last place in 50 miles. From the 'greeting' at checkin to the 'couldn't be bothered' when we checked out, these folks were anything but friendly. Way overpriced for what you get. read more
