I've been here twice now, and I really love the new space! The restaurant is open, modern, and reminiscent of fishing. It is spacious with booths, tables, and a large bar. Ample parking and free valet as well! Happy hour is $5 off of all starters, $1 gulf oysters, and drink specials (usually just $1 off). I love a lot of what I've tried off the menu - the mussels are in the most amazing broth, the fried oyster lettuce wraps are crunchy and delicious, the homemade bread is dense and chewy. A few other dishes weren't as great, and I know they are definitely working out the kinks still as a new restaurant. If I have ever been slightly unsatisfied with a dish, they have made up for it with great customer service and free dessert :) Speaking of, the coconut mouse with pineapple sorbet is one of the best desserts I have ever had. Do it! Something keeps me coming back here, and I look forward to watching them grow and get comfortable in their new location. read more

Had dinner there the other night. We had tried to come here for lunch a few weeks earlier and there was too long of a line at the time. We were given a small portion of some very tasty smoked salmon spread as a treat from the kitchen. Then we shared a good Cesare Salad (there was one anchovy in it, which I'm glad I noticed as I don't like them and the strong flavor would have bothered me if I ate it. I would have preferred being told about it.). We shared linguine with clams and the dish was quite good. 6 cooked clams on the half shell were around the pasta which had a generous amount of bacon in the sauce. We also shared a lobster and shrimp roll. It wasn't as tasty as the linguine mostly due to the mayo flavor and bits of celery. It wasn't bad, just not that special. All in all, this was a pretty decent meal and we'd come back again. read more

Since this experience, the management has been absolutely wonderful to me and my extended family. I've actually never had such good service where the intent was to fix the problem. This place was so good!!! Super cute, OVERLY friendly servers, and awesome food. We went for happy hour and spent about $60 on food. The oysters were super fresh and $1 a piece. The bread was amazing, bbq shrimp super flavorful and the chargrilled oysters were just as good as the raw ones. I had the grapefruit margarita and not only was it super refreshing but it's was also strong. Definitely will be coming back!!! We had our first Salt Traders meal for my birthday. We had a wonderful meal with just wonderful service! The shrimp and lobster roll was outstanding, mussels were fab, and we went with the Key Lime pie for dessert. My husband chose a pasta dish, shrimp, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes. Service was attentive and friendly. Always a clean and bright dining establishment. Grapefruit 'rita was excellent. Grilled oysters were covered in toasted bread crumbs. Tasted fresh enough, although rather dry, little seasoning, and served at room temperature. Why use a wire stand on the table for a seafood dish that is neither hot nor served on ice? Very little flavor. Also tried the mussels. Broth was tomato based with sausage and a sprinkling of cilantro. Delicious with the mussels. Side of grilled bread was doughy and chewy; the sourdough flavor did not compliment this dish. Texture didn't soak up broth. My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary here while attending a work trip. We were taken care of by Skyler who gave us some of the best service we've had in years. Please do not go for Saturday brunch. I should have known better but we saw good reviews so figured why not. Every single entree item (lobster roll and cioppino) tasted off, as though it had been thawed refrozen and thawed again. Taste and texture both awful. We also ordered a seafood tower, everything on there was great minus the ceviche which was missing citrus and seasoning. Didn't take fresh, overall not a great experience and will not be back. Maybe Friday Saturday dinner rush is a better experience but we won't be risking it. Service was very kind and understanding and comped our two drinks($15 of a ~$200 bill) even after we asked them to not comp anything and just to bring us the bill. Mannn... those chowder fries!!! I would go here just for those. That doused in the hot sauce is one of delicious mix of yumminess. I split the blacked fish sandwich which was pretty good. I didn't think it was 'blackened' enough. I would prefer the fish to have more of the Cajun or whatever seasoning blend. The fish filet was cooked well. I think I'll get fried fish next time. I really like this restaurant. Good ambience, always consistently good service with friendly hosts. They always try to accommodate you if you want a booth. The only suggestion I have is for the grilled fish sandwich. The fish was pretty wimpy. Love coming to this place! It's like an apple bees but for seafood. I mean that in a good way! It's large, casual, clean, and serves seafood. Mostly families coming here. Big TVs playing sports with a bar. The servers have always been very nice and the food has been great. Just had the opportunity to try Salt Traders for the first time and it was excellent. They have the best oysters I have had in Texas so far. We have the steak and lump crab special and one of us has the scallops. Both were delicious! They even check when our steaks were delivered to ensure they were cooked properly. The service was some of the best service I've received in the Austin area and the restaurant taker was very quaint and well kept. I've been here after swimming in Barton springs. Great location and parking spaces. My appetizer was shrimp it was crunchy and similar to Fried tacos. My bf got cioppino which is great but I think they have too much sour soup considering the ingredients. I got fried fishes and it was well cooked and crunchy enough. Salt Trader's has great service, tasty and fresh food, and a big parking lot. Compared to similar restaurants, it also has competitive pricing. Those things are all great and often hard to find, but the thing that motivated me to write my review was a recent experience. I don't want to go into the details but essentially, I had a special request for a takeout order and my waiter and the executive pastry chef went above and beyond in making it happen (when I would have completely understood "no, we can't do that" as an answer and made it clear that it was just wishful thinking) and it made my day. read more

Absolutely love this place. They have the best happy hour. On mondays the happy hour is all day and they serve $1 oysters all night. Even though they are gulf oysters they are still great. They also have reduced apps, my favorite is the smoked fish dip with the homemade kettle chips. They are so addictive. We also tried the pineapple sorbet tonight which was amazing. Excellent all around!! Great service great food. They offer specials off the menu. We started with kettle chips and blue cheese dip. It was delish the blue cheese was excellent. Then we had the crab cake about 3oz with fennel salad. Lots of blue crabmeat excellent. Entree's I had the scallops (large)with asparagus, mushrooms sliced potatoes. The scallops were cooked perfect and they were fresh. Hubby had the shrimp and grits witch had a kick to it. Also excellent the shrimp was fresh and good size. Kelly our waitress was excellent explaining the menu and options and was very attentive. Must try if your in Austin area and they do offer reservations.
