To start I tried several different oysters recommended by our server. All of the oysters were great. I also had the clam chowder and this is my favorite clam chowder in Austin! This is typical of Austin with trendy seating, loud ambience and unique offerings of seafood that rivals most upscale restaurants. The oysters were fresh and very tasty. We tried 2 versions from Prince Edward and a selection from Maine. Very tasty. The Gin and tonic was unique with a flowery blend of aromatics in a stemmed glass. I would have preferred a tumbler and no flowers but I ordered a second as I got used to the flowers and opted to stick with it. Red snapper with curry was good but the seared scallops with the cauliflower purée and street corn relish was the absolute perfect bite. My only challenge was the portion. I like a bigger plate and this was great but a few more scallops would have been right for me. Great service from Dee and he was very knowledgeable of the drinks and oysters. Give this place a try. My son and daughter took me to Salt Trader's for my birthday. The kettle chips and freshly squeezed lemonade was great! I had the fish enchiladas. Great food, great service, busy lunch rush but efficient. We ate at the bar but high top and table service are available. Fairly casual ambiance but not too loud. I'm not sure why I haven't written a review for this place. It is my absolute favorite right now. We go there with some regularity and always sit at the bar. I always get the gin and bubbles. The bar staff is always friendly and comfortable with each other. They truly work as a team. We almost always strike up a conversation with someone else at the bar. The food is outstanding. What's not to love? That's a ton of alwayses, but that basically reflects the consistent excellence of this restaurant. There are lots of things for me to choose from, even with my post-Covid palate. I love their clam chowda. Their hush puppies are out of this world. I've had every raw bar offering except the ceviche. The crab cakes, the shrimp cocktail, the shrimp snobb salad, the shrimp and lobster roll...everything is so tasty and thoughtfully crafted for flavor and mouth feel. It's extremely nice to have this good seafood place near Austin. I only recently found out this place is owned by the notorious Jack Allen so this place definitely sticks to his high standards. Super comfy atmosphere and decorations inside that get you in the ocean mood. They have very good specials and cheap fresh oysters on Mondays. Their cocktails are made well. I had their seafood pasta and I got to have a little bit of everything to fill my craving of seafood. I definitely want to come back here soon. Good for family and friends. read more

Hurts my heart to write this review. My husband and I have eaten at the Round Rock location every Monday since our move here in Aug 2019. Bradley and Katie have been our predominant regular servers for the long haul. Recently, Bradley suggested if we were ever near Zilker, give it a try so we obliged. This is my worst experience ever at Salt Traders. From the chaotic list process to waiting 1 hr 15 min to be offered a seat at the bar. We were ultimately moved to a community table even though there was a booth, our preference, sat right after us in the table that I asked to sit at and was told was unavailable. The only reason that I gave a 2 is because our server, Megan, was awesome. The rest of the experience was so frustrating that I could not enjoy my food. My frustration grew more and more as I booth after booth opened up. We focused our order on items not on the RR menu. We tried the nigiri, ceviche, tuna stack, oysters, shrimp cocktail. My favorite item was the tuna stack. It was incredible. I would highly recommend it. Glad I crossed this off the list. I will be sure to tell Bradley about his recommendation. Better safe than sorry. Had the pleasure of dining here both before and during COVID-19. Both times, we had warm, efficient service. When we were dining in, the restaurant was packed, and while there weren't enough servers to cover everyone, our server was great -- he even comped us drinks and a dessert because of the wait, even though it hadn't been too long. The lobster roll is good, and I've been warned that it comes cold each time I've ordered it. I don't love the chips that come with it -- sometimes they taste a bit bitter. My partner got fries with his entree, which was fried fish, and the fries were much better than the chips. Quality of the fish overall is pretty good, and at the very least, it is quite fresh. If you're a smoked fish person, the fish dip is great. If you have a sweet tooth, the key lie pie is a must get! read more

I really wanted to like the Salt Trader but unfortunately it was disappointing. Before arriving I was set to order bbq shrimp. Thinking of so many great bbq shrimp moments I was ready for one more. The dish came out and I could tell from a distance it was not right. Bbq shrimp sauce should be creamy and thick from the butter and cream. This sauce was like chicken broth. The flavor was thin and did nothing for the well cooked shrimp. The rest of the meal was decent but lacked wow. The menu selections are inviting but my gut tells me they will all fall short of my expectations. Too many other great seafood houses in Austin. I ordered the cup of Clam Chowda and the Lobster and shrimp Snobb Salad and while the restaurant was out of lobster the salad was very delicious and hearty with just the shrimp, I chose to have the creamy chive dressing and found that it made for the most delicious meal. The chowda was worth the wait, rich, creamy and delightfully clam filled. My husband ordered the fish and chips and was very happy with how hot, fresh and crispy both the fries and fish were, high praises from both of us on the house tartar sauce. The seared scallops are pure magic, and speaking of magic, yes, there is a magician who popped up no introduction and performed some amazing tricks as we dined! The Chowder, the Chowder!!!! My husband took me here for my birthday and we had an amazing experience. The decor is very Hampton's with whites and blues. We tried a few items: Chowda Fries, fried green tomatoes, and the snapper collar to start. Then I had the cioppino as my entree. Everything had great flavor and the presentation was beautiful. We also had a cup of the "clam chowda"...it was delish! Just broth, clams, and leeks...no potatoes. It was the star of the show for me.
