I recently visited Saltgrass Steakhouse, and I have to say, the setting is absolutely stunning. Sitting outside by the water with perfect weather made for a truly enjoyable atmosphere. The food itself was spot on--delicious and exactly what you'd expect from a good steakhouse. However, I need to be honest about my first experience. The last time I came, I had to wait over two hours for a table. When I finally got seated, I was completely ignored for over an hour. Feeling frustrated, I left without being served. To make matters worse, I wasn't even allowed back in to speak with anyone about the issue. Not wanting to leave a one-star review based on that experience alone, I decided to give them another chance. On my recent visit, everything went much more smoothly--the food and service were excellent, and I could truly enjoy the beautiful outdoor scenery. We come here occasionally because we get good friendly service and enjoy our meals! We sat near the lovely fireplace, a comfortable dining area and a great server, Chris. He was very attentive, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed his service. No waiting. We started out with drinks which were really good (my husband tried the grand old fashioned and loved it) and FRIED MUSHROOMS Dusted with parmesan, ranch dressing. We ordered Maureen's CENTER CUT FILET MIGNON with a baked potato, and salad. Loved it. Dessert was the huge yummy Chocolate cake with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. We saved a drive Austin to Perry's Steakhouse, saved $100 and enjoyed it just as much or better. Less hassle, no valet parking! I returned for my father's 91st birthday. We used to celebrate at big, fancy steakhouses, but now we appreciate how effortless Saltgrass is. Parking is easy, getting a table is quick, and the staff is relaxed and accommodating. The food is solid, and it's never too busy or too loud. Andrew, our waiter, was exceptionally kind to my father. I'm puzzled by the new mocktail policy--apparently, you can't get a Moscow Mule Mocktail in a copper mug anymore, which disappointed my father a bit, but it wasn't a deal breaker. My father didn't want dessert, but Andrew kindly offered to box it up to go. The chocolate cake was a generous portion, which was a thoughtful gesture. Went for an early Valentine's dinner since my husband is "ditching " me to go skiing I ordered a medium filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection, but the mashed potatoes were heavy and stodgy! True to its name, steak was salllllllllty. Very large porterhouse cut, green beans, cup soup, comp bread for ~50$ (before gratuity). I ordered my steak mid-rare and received medium well. Nice search, but internal temp way over. It took so long to receive I didn't dare request a replacement. Hangry. ;) Asked for the choice of Potato Soup to go. Ate it for lunch the next day. Some of the oddest soup I've ever had. ??? Flavor was overwhelmed with onions. Luckily, I actually love onions. The texture was very difficult to get over (see photo). Watery and grainy. Merp. My best friend Ann and I share birthdays. We always go to this location to celebrate. The food was delicious as always. But this time our celebration was extra special because of our waitress Gabby. She was a delight. One of... if not the BEST server we've had at any restaurant in a long time. She was cheerful, observant, courteous, and on the spot with refills and checking in with us. Came here on Veteran's day to celebrate a family member's birthday around 1pm mid week. First time here. Friendly front of the house. Service is a bit slow.. seems they are understaffed today. Maybe it was because of the holiday? Friendly table service. Drinks took a bit to come out. We only ordered 2 margs. Apps: fried pickles, some of the best I've had in CTX so far. Light, sour, fresh ranch/dill dip. I'd come here for happy hour and just get this and a drink. Main meals: Lunch Rib eye med rare, cooked as requested, melted in my mouth. Came with 2 sides. i got the potato soup. Hubs got the salad. -9/10 rib eye 10oz -6/10 soup -9/10 salad (finally some fresh good greens here in TX) 8/10. Chicken fried steak. Huge! Garlic mash. Yums. Hubs only ate 1/2. 9/10 Chocolate cake. 3 layers. Not too sweet. That and some cold vanilla ice cream. One of the best chocolate cakes I've had. Overall we had a nice time. I have been to quite a few Saltgrass Steakhouse, but this one was not one that I would recommend. The service was not up to par as I have received that others Saltgrass Steakhouses. The general atmosphere of the restaurant was dull, gloomy, unimpressive and seemed dirty. As we looked at the booth next to us, we noticed that the benches were ripped and torn, and the table seemed scratched. We ordered a ribeye steak 12 ounce and the double bone in pork chop with the baked potato and Caesar salad. The ribeye was un impressive as if it had been tenderized with a different type of tenderizer because it had a strange taste. The butter that we were given seemed like imitation butter or a cheap margarine instead of real butter. May I remind you that these are not cheap plates. Went here yesterday and had the prime rib, baked potato, salad and fried cheese with carrot cake for dessert. Fried cheese pieces were very large and the inside of the cheese was cold, breading and marinara sauce was ok. Prime rib was tough and the steak was almost too dull to cut it. It was warm but now hot. Salad was ok I ordered blue cheese and they put shredded cheese on top of it. Service was good the carrot cake was the best very large and tasty. A long-time friend suggested we meet for lunch at this restaurant yesterday. We arrived at noon and were seated in the main dining room, which bore the heavy dark atmosphere some steak houses favor. The menu was extensive, but printed darkly too, making it difficult to read. I wound up using some phone light to decide on meal. I opted for their lunch country fried steak (aka chicken fried steak) which came with one side. I asked for a small salad and the server said there would be an upcharge for that, When I inquired why, he replied "its company policy." So, I agreed. My buddy ordered a ribeye with loaded potato and salad. Bread and salads arrived promptly, salads were ample enough to take some home. Entrees followed. I nearly laughed when my plate arrived, a big platter with a 4-5 oz breaded fried cutlet and a small container of gravy on side, as I'd requested. I picked up the tab for the two of us--$61.44 before tip. (Our beverages were tap water and one iced tea.) Since I live near Bee Cave, I've dined at many other restaurants in the area; and I'm gonna take a pass on re-visiting SSH. read more

We had a great family dinner tonight at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Bee Cave. There were seven of us, including one child, and this location remains one of my favorites. It's intimate, quiet, and especially peaceful if you go before 6 PM, which we prefer to do with a kid in tow. The atmosphere was perfect for visiting, and the service, as always, was excellent. We all ordered the 6-ounce Wagon Boss Sirloin, which is one of their cheapest, but somehow better steaks--tender, flavorful, and consistently well-cooked. While a couple of our steaks leaned more medium than medium-rare as ordered, they were still enjoyable and didn't need to be sent back. We started with shrimp cocktail and brisket queso, which were both fantastic, and paired with their warm bread, salads, and hearty sides like mashed potatoes or baked potatoes, the portions were more than enough to leave us stuffed. For dessert, we shared the carrot cake and cheesecake. While both were good, the lack of variety was disappointing, especially since the carrot cake contains nuts, making it off-limits for some in our party with tree nut allergies. We also missed their chocolate dessert, which used to be a favorite. Another letdown is their limited soup option--baked potato soup is great, but when the main sides are also potatoes, it feels redundant. Despite those minor issues, the meal was excellent overall. The server was attentive and kept our drinks topped off, and the location itself is inviting with ample parking and a scenic setting by a retention pond--perfect for photos, which we always take when we meet here. This location holds a lot of fond memories, and even though we no longer live nearby, we always make it a point to return. Service is hit or miss. Went with my kids a while back and I think our table switched servers in the middle of our meal because at some point we were left for over half an hour with nobody checking on us or bringing us our check. And then a new person came to help. I've had a couple of good experiences there since but then today, we ordered three tenderloin filets and the waitress brought us sirloin instead. I would have never ordered the sirloin and when they came out, I even commented on how short they were for a center cut filet. She just told me that that's what the 6 oz looked like. It didn't seem like tenderloin to me and sure enough when she brought the bill, I realized she had rung up and brought us sirloins instead of tenderloins. The manager happened to be going by asking how everything was and when I told her, all she did was say that she would use that information for future coaching. I think it's unacceptable that a server at a steak house doesn't know the difference between a sirloin and a tenderloin. And we got nothing beyond "I'm sorry." I used to love their salmon and rice pilaf but now that I know the latter is no longer on the menu, it's unlikely I'll go back. read more

Steak has a horrible texture like it was sous Vided, no flavor, no salt, just mostly raw mushy gross meat not cooked to my request. We had to cook it off at home. Broccoli smells and tastes like fish oil. Sweet potato was stringy and green. Salad greens didn't taste good either, but most salads don't taste good anymore. I have always loved saltgrass but this experience was horrible. It started with drinks and went through the whole meal. It took a long time to get served. She got my son the wrong drink (no big deal fixed it). However, there were constant delays in greeting, ordering, food arriving, etc. We never got our soups and salads. When we did get our meal, I was given the wrong side. I ordered the prime rib. It came with horseradish and no au jus. I asked the food runner for au jus, she disappeared and never came back. Finally our server stopped by and I asked for my correct side and au jus. A mgr never stopped by and we were not compensated for the food we didn't get or offered a dessert or anything to make up for it. I went out to dinner last night with my family. Saltgrass used to be one of our favorite restaurants in town, and we would go 3-4 times per month. We even joined their Landry's Select Club last year. When we arrived, we told the hostess we were a party of 5. A party of 3 walked in behind us, and they were seated immediately (I know smaller groups are usually easier and faster to seat...no problem). We waited. A few minutes went by, and a group of six walked in and asked what the wait time would be. The hostess looked flustered and walked away. A different host walked back and said, "Party of six? Follow me." Meanwhile, we're still sitting there waiting. Another group walks in...party of four, and they start to seat that group before I chime in that we are also still waiting. Just getting to a table was handled so unprofessionally. The manager came over and basically said, "We got confused, and all I can do is say 'Sorry'." Our server was wonderful. We've had her several times, and she is always great. The food, however, is just so-so. Overall, I don't think we'll be back. There are many other places in town to choose from, and an experience like we had last night along with the mediocre food just doesn't warrant the Saltgrass price tag. read more

We ventured out for dinner at Salt Grass for which we have a Landry's card & frequent several times monthly. First - no parking and we almost left after 20 minutes of waiting for a spot (my husband has a walker) . We've now been here almost an hour and don't even have water. We sat outside after I told the host we were there to dine and my husband was already outside on the patio and we didn't need menus as we know what we like to order. We've waited 15 minutes and no one even came out. I went in and caught the host's attention & he said he was sending someone right out. (He didn't). The manager came eventually and asked if we were just sitting or dining w them as the host told her he thought we were just sitting on the patio. Same guy! We finally ordered from a very frazzled waitress who told us they had a party of 30 in the special dining room .. likely a reservation management plans for with staffing. (Obviously not!) Then the manager brought us two glasses of red wine. My husband doesn't drink and I had ordered a Pino Grigio. It's not red! Finally water arrived. It's now dark outside except for building lights - I'd "walk" but I'm writing a YELP review as these people need to get their act together especially in this economy when a meal out should be a real treat and not a burden.
