This Saltgrass location has great food; great service . . . if you're dining in. The problem comes, when placing a to-go order, which I typically do on a weekday. After working all day, try placing a carry out order and get ready to stay on hold for awhile before speaking to anyone; upon arrival get ready to stand there and watch the carry-out server pack orders while never acknowledging the fact that you are obviously waiting for your order; watch your meal sit there and get cold in the meantime; get ready to watch the bar staff act like it is beneath them to hint that someone will be right with you. I called and the manager tried to make it right with a store credit, which I was thankful for. My wife ordered a sauvignon blanc and was brought a cabernet wine, then she had to wait approx .15 mins for correct wine the only other visit to table was to bring mustard for a cheeseburger and to leave check .I ordered a second beer and didn't arrive until the end of meal. I had wanted to sit in the bar area but it was full.The only time I've received great serve here I sat in bar area. Everytime I've sat in dining room the service has been below average. Saltgrass IMO has great food..I'm always happy about the food quality. I can usually say that about the service BUT the Cedar Hill location definitely needs to send their servers and managers back to training camp. Our server was a sweet kid, but clearly had never waited tables before. This might fly for an Applebees but Saltgrass, you have a reputation..and your servers at this location...are damaging that rep. Not only was our server inexperienced, but there were several servers standing around playing and ignoring guests. No teamwork here. After our server failed to fill our water for over 15minutes, I went to bar and asked her to refill my water glass. She gave me a slight attitude as if I were bothering her. My husband spoke to manager about, empty tea and water glasses, repeated requests for butter, salad dressing requested but never came until salad half gone, soup delivered with no spoon, etc...the manager knew we were unhappy, but she avoided our table rather than stepping in to help the server. Manager walked by us and intentionally looked in other direction when she passed our table. Her name was Jesse, I think. She should have done something...but she has no managerial courage or skills. Saltgrass is a great place to go for steak in Texas. The people are happy and accomodating, the service is fast, and the steak is pretty incredible. The only thing to remember is to try to get there before 5-5:30 if you can because the rush will start after that. read more

The food seems ok, but compared to the Grapevine this is a totally different restaurant. I will say that once they got the food steak done correctly it was good, but by that time my wife's meal was cold. So I ordered a medium rare filet, but it arrived medium well. They were quick to remake it, but the meal was disrupted at that point. This was of course after the soup spoon came out very dirty (covered in old food), and the steak knife had dried on food on the blade right out of the napkin roll. The staff was pleasant, but not great. The manager didn't seem to be very interested in keeping customers happy, but they seem busy so I suppose they don't really need our business. read more

Great service. Staff was very attentive. Food was delicious for the price. I've been Nick & Sam an $$& restaurant and it was not good. Saltgrass was perfect. The wait was less than 20 min, the place was clean, the server was on top of his game (Doug) always taking care of us. My brother had a steak with a little to much of fat and Brian who we believe was the manager even came over and got him a new steak. Brian management skill were amazing and extremely professional. Was going to give 1 star but after finally being served (after waiting 15 minutes and then calling a manager over and asking for a waiter) Tim came over and we had no issues after that. The manager came back and did ask if our meal was okay toward the end. I'm finally writing a review because we use to frequent at least once a week but it became common practice to either wait for a long time for a waiter to help us or the staff was rude. I see new managers have been hired but.... same ole same ole. read more

Bar Staff is incredibly rude. Not friendly at all. Poor service! It seemed like they hated their job and did not want to be there. We sat at the bar for dinner. They were rude to some of the wait staff. The whole dining experience was terrible. For an $80 dinner, it was so not worth it. I asked the young lady for a refill of water, she didn't even acknowledge if she heard me or not, didn't look at me, NO REACTION. For management: TRAIN YOUR STAFF on customer service. I went for the Friday happy hour. But the waiter must've been new because he did not know anything about food or drinks for the happy hour. Gf and I ate here over the weekend and we had a terrible experience. Once we were seated, our waitress (Maddison) took a long time to take our drink order. After getting our drinks, she took our food order and 20 minutes later, she comes back saying she forgot what we ordered because she never wrote it down in the first place. So we have been under the impression that our order has been placed but it took over an hour just to get our food. The waitress never came by to check up on us or to inform us about our food. She got the orders mixed up and my steak was overcooked while my gf steak was undercooked. Our waitress came back bringing me the wrong check and we asked for a cheesecake to go. She came back 10 minutes later asking if she brought my dessert. We understand that it was busy but to forget our order and have us wait even more time just for our food to be wrong is unacceptable. In town from Oklahoma City for a conference. Went to dinner with several colleagues. Food very good. Service pretty good. Next day when I got home realized I left my credit card there. Called twice on Friday Sept 7 2018 at 7:30. Both times the young lady was very rude, stated "No, we ain't found no credit card," and the hung up on me. I have never been treated like this at a Saltgrass. I receive better service at McDonalds....... There are lots of good restaurants in that area. Guess we'll be going elsewhere. read more

Horrible wait and service. Arrived at 6:45, with a Landry card (which is supposed to get you priority seating) and was seated at 8:30. Didn't get food until 9:20. Never got bread plates, butter or drinks from the bar. It took so long to be seated that we had to order food for my grandson from the bar (since his blood sugar was dropping..he has type 1 diabetes, which is why we got the useless Landry card in the first place). Every time I go to this location its always a problem with the staff. They are so unprofessional. I frequent Saltgrass in Mesquite, Arlington often. It's a shame I have drive to another neighborhood to get the kind of service I prefer. The wait staff are to laid back. They talk loud and openly like they are on break. The are forgetful and have no sense of urgency. The last time I had to ask for the manager because the staff was singing dancing cleaning up sitting down at the tables talking about they feet hurt just two tables from where I sat. Tonight the waitress forgets our salads, doesn't return to check on us. Some one else brings our food out. We had to ask him for bread, our salads, my food was lukewarm but my sisters food was hot. When she finally arrived we mentioned our salads and she stated, "Oh yeah I forgot yall salads, oh and you ordered fries too. Let me go check for yall." Again she took forever to come back and when she did she had no salads. She stopped by to say that she had ring up the only other table she was waiting and and she salad she would box our salads up for us to take them home. So I jokingly said, "Girl go get our salads!" And the heffa rolled her eyes dismissively. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I motioned for a manger...a tall dark complexion man walked over and when I explained what happened he giggled and said he would have me another meal sent out. I declined. Then her come our waitress with messed up salads looking very surprised and wandering what he was there for. He slightly explained to her what my complaint was and she began saying, "I didnt say that!!" I told the manager that I am the customer and I have no reason to make up something on this young lady. His demeanor the whole conversation was very condescending and rude to the point I stopped talking and kindly asked him to remove the plate in front of me and I was so done with him. Never again will I patronize the Cedar Hill location. It is just too ghetto fabulous. We went here as my dad's choice for Father's Day. I'd been to a Saltgrass years ago and barely remember it while my parents and brother had never been to one. Once we were seated, they gave us a large roll to carve up in order to stall our hunger. They make their rolls with Shiner beer (brewed right outside of Austin) and they are goodness. I ordered one of their twisted (read: alcoholic) lemonades that included vodka made in Austin. I had a pear lemonade and the vodka was so smooth that I had to ask the waitress if they actually put alcohol in my drink (ok, so an aside here. I look really young so it wouldn't surprise me that when I'm out w/my parents that people may assume that I mean a virgin version when I order a drink). For my meal, I had a Wagon boss top sirloin, 10 oz (I don't eat that much meat at one sitting, but I figured I could take half of it home w/me, which is exactly what I did). My parents had the prime rib and they were quite satisfied with that. For dessert, my brother and I split a strawberry cheesecake (my parents also had a few forkfuls) and that was ultra-goodness (my parents said that if they'd tasted it beforehand, they might have ordered one to split amongst themselves). Slightly pricey (steak plates are at least $16) but then again, it's steak, what do you expect? Great place for steak or drinks that'll have you smoothly on your arse. read more

I was really leaning towards 3 stars, but i gave it 4. I took my mother there. The waiter Douglass made her feel really comfortable. My issue is that she asked for a medium well done steak and it came out bloody red. The manager did come out to check on us afterwards after he learned of the mishap. I didn't like that they took the same piece of meat and took it back too cook it. I'm thinking they should had just gave her a new steak especially for the price that I paid for dinner for 2. A bug's life... I took my mom out for a late lunch last Sunday. Saltgrass is one of her favorite shots. Every where we go in the metoplex they allow seniors order off the lunch menu no matter what day and time it is. After a short debate with Ron the manager he stated that it at his discretion and it not really something they do. Fine not problem. We place our order. We both order Caesar salads with our meal. I get half way through my salad and there is a green medium size grasshopper in the bowl. I was instantly ill. No apology was received and the manager was less then accommodating. I dropped by Salt Grass after a 3 hour drive from Austin just to order the "tenderloin tips" for lunch (they stop serving lunch at 4 pm). My fiance has a thing for the tenderloin tips. We arrived around 3 pm and the restaurant was buzzing with people. We were told there would be a 45 min plus wait so we went to the bar. At the bar there is this huge window that oversees the main dining area. We noticed there were 2 open tables and 2 that needed to be bussed. After 20 mins of looking at these empty and dirty tables my fiance took it upon himself to take a count of all the empty tables in the restaurant. He strolled around and counted 16 open tables! With so many people waiting to be seated we called the manager over and asked why there were so many tables open and no one was being seated. The manager explained that some of those tables could be a reservation, others reserved for a large party and he did not have an excuse for the ones that were not bussed. He asked for our name and told us he would go check on our wait status. He returned about a minute later and told us our table was ready just as our buzzer went off. The table that happened to be ready was the table that sat unbussed for 20 minutes. Needless to say if you come here and wait to be seated there's likely a lot of tables open but no one bussing them. Our waiter met us with apologies and told us he was "the best waiter in the house." That is a lot to live up to don't you think? The best waiter in the house was very slow. We ordered our tenderloin tips and waited. We didn't wait too long for the plate of delicious morsels was delivered. I have to say the tenderloin is very tender. The pepper corn sauce is almost too salty for me but the potatoes cut the salt. The "best waiter in the house" didn't check on us much after taking our order and delivering our food. We waited about 15 minutes after we were finished to get our check. The best waiter passed us, made eye contact several times but just didn't come to the table even when we flagged him over. We noticed he was too busy flirting with a hostess. We actually saw him grab her butt and guide her to another station. He talked her up while we looked on. We waited some more and then had to ask another waiter to flag him down. We paid the bill and laughed at that gall of some people. I don't come to this place on my own. My fiance and his tenderloin tip cravings are what keep us coming back. Sadly, even with this flat and pathetic experience we will be back. Our first visit was on a Wednesday night, and the restaurant was about half full. Our server was excellent and she checked up on us just the right amount of times (didn't hover, nor did she ignore us). After taking our drink orders, she immediately brought us warm bread with whipped butter. Enjoyed the beer on tap because the glass was cold, and there were tiny bits of ice chips in the beer which is a nice touch. The salads are a bit heavy on the cheese, but who complains about cheese? The most important note is that they cooked our steaks perfectly. Our party ranged from medium rare to rare, and our meat was delivered at the perfect temperature. I would definitely return here again because of the way our steaks came out. Watch out for the Texas decor. It has a cheesy Texas roadhouse-feel, but it's not too kitschy (but definitely commercial). We just ate there, for lunch today. Chose to go there for our 25th anniversary lunch. Service was great, food was excellent. I ordered the chicken fried steak and vegetable medley and My husand had the grilled salmon. The vegetable medley was seasoned better than any I have ordered out anywhere before.
