Saltgrass used to be good. Not it just feels like a fats food steak house. I had plastic wrap in my Mac n cheese and the waiter could have cared less, never saw a manager, still paid for it , when I didn't eat it. Service has gone down hill. This is now one of my favorite steak places to go for dinner. It was great during covid as they take reservations and they were great at keeping space between tables. We tend to go before 6pm so that we can save money and order if the early dinner menu. My favorites are the fried mushrooms and the half rack of ribs with some fries. These days most tx places cannot make good ice tea. But the tea is great here. Taste like tea. I do wish they worked on their menu related to bar drinks, cannot seem to find a good drink here except for beer or wine. The prices here for food are good and it is a nice place to go for any event. After 7 years of living in Texas I finally tried this place. Overall a great experience. I ordered the crawfish and shrimp steak! I enjoyed the topping more than the steak it self. The steak was ordered medium but more chewy than expected. The Mac n cheese was yummy! I also ordered onion strings in place of a soup or salad it arrived visibly soggy! If it was it for the those soggy onion strings and chewy steak my visit would have been PERFECT! I also had the strawberry margarita with the bottle turned upside down in it (forgot the name). Came in for a quick bite after golfing in the area. So I sat in the bar. Eat at SSH a lot when traveling in Houston, so I know the menu. Had the Chicken Laredo, was overall good. Wow, What happened to you guys? We used to love coming to Saltgrass, even have the VIP membership but this was our last visit, ever. We haven't been in a while as they raised their prices and eliminated Prime Rib from the menu, one of my favorites but tonight we decided to venture in again. I don't complain about my meals to managers because I've never thought it a good idea to complain about your food to those making it but I also assume if they really cared they would make certain the meal lived up to the customers expectations. I ordered the 12 ounce RibEye. I knew the moment it was delivered there was a problem. It had about the same thickness of a pancake. Yes, a slight exaggeration but not by much! Not only was it not 12 ounces, it was overcooked, extremely fatty (Not marbling...FAT) and someone was real happy with the salt shaker. Again, I said nothing but didn't bother finishing the thing. Really sad to see a once great steak house going down this path, I hope you turn it around and get back to the way you used to be but for us, we will be spending our monies elsewhere. read more

Here it is, my 100th review. (What, no balloons or confetti? No naked girls dancing while getting champagne sprayed on them?) I feel jipped. Haha... I was bummed to learn I booked my hotel just a little too far from downtown Dallas. Ok, so this place was in walking distance to my hotel. Being the accounting type I am, I said let's do this, let's make lemonade. So I walked across the parking lot and see many years restaurants. I decided on Saltgrass, just because I like the name. I walk in, and the bar is pretty full. It's where I eat when I'm alone. But the people were all super friendly. They made room for me with out me having to ask. It was really thoughtful. I won't get into my drinks. Not because they were bad, but you can't mess up a vodka on the rocks or a bottled beer. I wasn't looking to eat and bail. So I started out just ordering a wedge salad. Let me tell you, this was the most amazing wedge I've ever had!! Ice cold iceburg, super ripe romas, bold bacon, blissfully chunky blue cheese! But the Pièce de résistance was the vinegarette. It added this texture and taste you really have to try to be able to understand. From here, I sat around and drank and talked up strangers. About an hour passed before I ordered my meal. I decided on the 16oz Ribeye, medium rare, with a side of the baked smoked gouda mac n cheese! As for the steak, being in texeas, I felt underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad steak at all. It looks like I barely touched it even after I ate some. There were like 11-14 pieces of shrimp. And theres tons of sweet potato fries glazed with sugar. Their Sweet tea drink is deadly. Nothing else to say but the fact that it reminded me of a steakhouse version of Island's Burgers without a signature dish. So with 16 locations you could consider Saltgrass Steakhouse a chain. Therefore, this review is really based on what makes a chain rise above the rest. On this particular evening the main dining area was full and we would have needed to wait. The hostess offered us a seat on the patio which we were happy to take. The seating outside wasn't the most comfortable, but acceptable. When we first sat down we were greeted promptly by our waiter. Soon after taking our drink order Warren, our waiter ended up wearing an entire tray of drinks. Soon after that, the entire patio was slammed with 3 four tops. I can honestly say that I've never seen a crew rally together to make sure all the tables were served properly. As for the food, I had the pork chop which was quite nice. It's the last time, the last dinner for our group. 4 weeks of training, and we're finally at the end of the road. Most of us had no real preferrence, so we agreed with Kevin P. Saltgrass it is. The place has a nice look and feel, and somewhat expected for a Landry establishment. Clean and semi low lit. I felt some of that Texas hospitality while I was there. We were seated quickly, especially considering accommodating a party of 9. The service was quite good for the duration of the visit. The only exception to the overall good experience was getting the check. It took at least 10 min to get the bill, then another 12 to get it picked up and returned for me to sign. The funny thing about this is that Kevin told us they would be slow when it came time to pay. Seems like they intentionally take a long time in hopes you might want dessert, or they need to tighten up this aspect of service. Either way, they take too long. Did you want to read something about the food? Ok. Sweet tea is good, not too sweet or syrupy. The dinner salad was fine, perfect sized, with some shredded cheddar for richness. I needed a combo - it just happens sometimes! The baby back ribs had a perfect tenderness with nice flavor but not terribly strong flavor - mildly good. I picked mac n cheese for a side, and it was pretty good. Coconut Gulf shrimp was butterflied and quite good, dipping sauce was super sweet with a touch of heat. I could eat a lot of those. So overall, I quite enjoyed the experience. The others in my dinner party focused on steak dinners, and they gave positive feedback as well. So, to the Saltgrass, thank you for hosting our last hurrah. We ordered the food through DoorDash, and when we received it, we both had to put our steak back in the skillet. They were both severely undercooked. The one in the pan (refer to pictures) was supposed to be medium well. And the other--completely well done. My Brussels sprouts were drenched in hollandaise and hardly edible. I love Saltgrass! Always have..they are generally my go to place for steak. Honestly...for the price it's probably still some of the best steak you can get in Dallas. From a chain, that's saying a lot. Some places might do it fancier...but not necesarily better. Our server Lauren was very attentive, and gave me proper diggs when I made jokes. I love smartass!! That kust makes the meal funner when a server can joke with you on a busy Friday night. We had a Porterhouse(cause they are the king of steaks!!) and it was cooked perfect. The other steak was a Prime Rib...and it was as dead as she wanted it....which to me meant it was shot out back 2 hours before it was served....it was that rare!! Dined here recently to enjoy a farewell dinner with my mother, an out of state visitor. A steakhouse seemed like the place to wrap up a Texas trip, so we agreed on the "20-40 minute wait" the hostess precautions us of. (It ended up being 35, regardless of my optimism). Once seated, a quick skim of the menu promised cuts of beef, the occasional hamburger, chicken and salmon choices. I opted for the New York Strip, a favorite, along with a baked sweet potato. The waiter was pleasant when I changed my extra order of asparagus to the dinner salad after much contemplation. He even was able to offer a suggestion towards one of the two Cabernets I was debating between. My date ordered Chicken Fried Chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. He enjoyed the dish, with the only complaint being there was no gravy with the potatoes - perhaps you have to ask for it on the side? Other orders included the Chicken Austin, which received positive verbal praise from its consumer, and sirloin. Bread was served with honey butter which was to die for, and all was kept graciously stocked during our wait for the entrees. All smelled great when the food arrived! However, excitement soon flattened when I realized my glass of wine was never brought out. A small oversight, my date looked to flag down some service while I cut into my NY strip... only to be completely devastated by this moment, as the cut I had ordered to be medium-rare was very quite obviously medium to medium well. I had thought it odd or a steakhouse to not ask you to cut into your meat when it was delivered, but I will note that it was not our server that brought our dishes out. In addition to the missing glass of wine, the evening was starting to take a different direction... That was, at least for me... Everyone else was digging into their meals! Service was flagged and while they did rectify the situation rather quickly, I still had to wait for 8-9 minutes watching everyone else enjoy their dinner while I swirled my glass of wine reluctantly. I ended up getting a to go box simply because no longer wanted to feel rushed (everyone was practically done by this point). While they did take care of my "forgotten" wine on the house, it was still disappointing to look forward to a $25 cut of meat that ultimately wouldn't come out with the rest of the tables' meal. Just wasn't the farewell dinner was expected to be. While I sincerely appreciate the staff's efforts to correct the issues that arose during the meal, I fear the experience was enough to send me to more reputable steakhouses simply to avoid the disappointment. read more

The food quality at Saltgrass has certainly changed for the worse. This used to be one of my favorite spots to eat, but not anymore. Ordered the chicken fried chicken with extra chicken, but didn't receive the gravy to go with it. This was a curbside order pick up so didn't realize it until we got home, we were so pissed off! The bbq ribs were severely overcooked and burnt. Smothered with bbq sauce to hide the horrible condition of the ribs. The shrimps were overcooked. I don't know why these restaurants want to cook seafood like they are frying chicken. Needless to say, $100.00 later we were very disappointed with our food. For the prices that Saltgrass charges we should be receiving much better food quality. The only good thing out of this disappointing event was the great customer service that I received from the person who brought the order out to my vehicle. Very nice, upbeat personality.
