I must say that the customer service I received from my waiter Josiah was top notch. He really knew how to cater to my every need and make me feel as if I was the only one he was waiting on. I ordered the steak and cake which is a center cut steak with a crab cake. Unfortunately my food was cold. I think they prepared it first and allowed it to sit while they finished the rest of the meals for my table. I will say they tried to heat it up in the broiler but it made it worst because the outside was warmer but the inside lukewarm to cold. Management was very kind to remove the food from our ticket. They even offered to prepare something else but I had to pass. My table completed their meals and it would be unfair to have them wait on me. Saltgrass used to be such a good restaurant, but I'm not sure what has happened or exactly when it got bad. We came here recently in a group of 11. The food quality has really gone downhill. But the prices are still high! Similar to macaroni grill which also used to be great but is now pretty terrible - it is like they have cut costs and are using low quality or pre-cooked foods, not sure, but I will not be going back to Saltgrass. read more

So, setting the stage, I grill. I grill very well, I buy prime beef and use charcoal at high temperature. I season my steaks properly. I cook them pretty damn close to as ordered if not as ordered. They are extremely good. Now, the missus and I had an evening to go out to eat. I flatly refused Kyoto again (I've gotten my family addicted to Sushi to the point they've burned me out :( ). So, since there weren't any crumb crunchers we decided Salt Grass as I've read good things. Service - extremely -pleasant and speedy. Atmosphere - chain Texas chophouse replete with typical kitsch Bartender - made a damn fine Makers whiskey sour, A++ here. My wife was extremely happy with the decanter of water with lemon as well as her entire meal. She would likely give it a 4. I, on the other hand, have a couple issues that stick these cats with a 2, until we go back and give it another go for my food. I got the dinner salad with Bleu Cheese dressing. The dressing lacked anything vaguely resembling blue cheese except for the faint hint of Kraft-esque quality dressing. I ordered the sirloin med-rare, it was delivered rare (not always a problem I like it juicy) but it was a titch below warm red center, but I gave it a taste. The flavor was actually decent, the problem was it was like eating shoe leather, it was gristly (even for a sirloin) and became a chore to try and eat. The shrimp scampi I ordered shouldn't be on the menu, its a travesty to even Red Lobster... the garlic mashed were equitable and that's about all I can say food wise. I'll give them their due, the waitress took my criticism to management, they did offer to make it "right"; but frankly I didn't want to wait. So some of the 2 star on here is because I didn't let their 4 star service fix the 2 star kitchens effort. We've been to this location several times over the years and never had such a bad experience as this time. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. There were several issues. No toilet paper in 2 out of 3 working stalls in the ladies room. I had to let someone know. It's not fun having to move to a different stall for TP and it's even worse when the stall I moved to didn't have any either!! Our server took our drink orders and then gave our table to someone else. I guess he thought we wouldn't be good tippers because we had 3 boys with us...the whole section was his except our table. That didn't set well with us. Our meals took LONGER than usual. My steak was overcooked and my husband's was undercooked. We sent both of them back. His was fine but even though mine was a new steak, it was more on the well done side than medium. I didn't want to be a further problem so I just ate it. Our glasses were empty more than once before she came back. I guess she might've had tables in a different part of the restaurant. After all this, the manager gave us 2 free desserts. So my husband and I decided to visit this restaurant tonight 12/10. We called and were told we wait 20-30 mins as people are leaving. We got there, Maddy the greeter told us it was an hour wait. We waited since she told us it might not be an hour. But we waited for an hr and 15 mins. We were getting very irritated. But once we got seated, the service recovery from Cody and Nick are so exceptional. Cody did the meet and greet and Nick followed thru. Both Cody and Nick are very awesome, did a fantastic job as well as Maddy. Maddy was very pleasant and patient. It's not very often people see the hard work of servers. My party of three requested one of the many empty booths for our meal at 3:00 in the afternoon 03/10/23, and were told we couldn't due to a server being on break. We weren't willing to sit in the middle of the restaurant when many of the booths were empty so we left. This establishment does understand the term "Curbside service.'. The food is good , but they are not equipped or just don't care about takeout service. I ordered curbside. I park. I text my space # as requested by their website. Car sitting next to me, waiting eventually had to go in and get his order. The time they listed as being "ready" passes by, no food. Keep in mind. I already gave the tip. A mistake I regret making ahead of receiving an order they could get incorrect. I walk in. i immediately see a bag sitting there. Several people just standing around. A very nice blonde woman finally offers to help me. Checks to see if my order is all there. All well and fine, but don't offer curbside service if you don't give it. The server was very nice, although he seemed just a bit new. No problem. He did pretty well. We got our appetizer fairly quick, but we did have to wait quite awhile to get our main meals. We got there at 4:30pm so it wasn't busy. Didn't think we'd have to wait as long as we did for our meals. My husband got the prime rib and he said it was fine. Not the best he'd ever had, but he said he'd order it again. I got the Smothered Filet (topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms with an herb butter sauce). If you look at the photo on the menu, the Smothered Filet is a thick cut - at least an inch high, piled high with so many veggies they're falling off. Since it was so thick, I asked for medium well since I don't like a lot of pink. If it was undercooked, no biggie, I'd take it home and reheat it and get it where I wanted it. How can something with herb butter sauce be bland? Maybe it sat under a heat lamp too long? Oh, and the potatoes. I asked for garlic mashed potatoes, loaded, but with the bacon on the side. What came was garlic mashed potatoes with bacon already on there. I started picking the bacon off and the guy who brought us our food said, "You want it with no bacon or chives?" I told him I wanted the chives but with the bacon on the side. He snatched it up and they brought me another - no bacon or chives. I asked for those and they brought me chives and no bacon. I gave up. They were very good though, so was the steamed broccoli. When one of the workers came by (not our server) and asked me how everything was, I said my steak was way overcooked. He took it away and didn't ask if I wanted another one, something different, or if I wanted to be comped. By that time I was just ready to leave. This was supposed to be my birthday dinner. I told my husband it didn't count. We waited and waited and waited, and finally we asked for the check. They were nice enough to comp me my meal, so I'm satisfied with how they took care of things. Placed an order, and 15 minutes after placing an order, the manager came by to apologize for running out of Salmon. Bad experience all around. I would actually give Saltgrass, Zero stars tonight! We have been to this location numerous times. The food has been great; the service not great but fair enough. However, tonight was the worst service and the worst food in the history of ever. It was not too busy, it was after the evening rush and we sat down within 10 minutes; so, the busy excuse doesn't work on this one. The meal started with a piss poor waiter who cared less if we were there or not. He got our simple drink orders ( water and Tea) wrong We had to ask 3 times for lemons. Finally, I had to ask a different waiter who brought them immediately. We had to wait 15 minutes to order food; he never checked on us! Finally, he took our order; 30 minutes later food came out cold! The steak was ordered well done; it was still bleeding and mooing! Sent it back! 20 minutes later the manager brought it out cold and bleeding! At this point I just want to eat; so, I take it as is; Mooing! The manager comps the steak and apologizes! OK, fair enough. I mention the waiter's poor service; the manager's eyes glaze over and my words go in one ear and out the other. It did not matter; the manager did not care. The meal is over and we order coffee and dessert. The waiter makes a big deal about how hot the desserts are and how good the coffee is. He brings cold coffee to the table and disappears. I have to ask another waiter for hot coffee. 20 minutes later our waiter brings more coffee and our desserts to the table; he told us to be careful because everything is so hot and walks off. Penguins and Polar Bears would have loved both the coffee and the desserts because they were that cold! I flag him down and point out the coffee and the desserts are cold. He apologizes and 10 minutes later brings out hot coffee! Finally! He apologizes for the coffee and the desserts; he comps the desserts. Ok, fine and disappears. Terrible food and service! read more

We wanted to have a family meal before Valentines Day so we went this afternoon around 5:30 ... total group was 7 & we were told 25 minute wait ... I wonder if they just arbitrarily throw out a waiting time hoping I don't watch the time ... after 55 minutes they finally got us to our table. We sat down & within 5 minutes knew what we all wanted. The waiter came & took our order plus a few adult beverages ... we didn't order appetizers since we were ready to go! We get our bread ... & the kids (3 teenagers) get there drinks ... about 20 min goes by & we get our salads ... still no adult drinks ... another 15 & he finally brings them ... 10 min later our meal comes & they forgot an order ... takes them 10 min to get it to the table ... most everyone else is finished ... waiter was hard to find & only once came by to refill the kids drinks. I do realize these are 1st world problems so in the scheme of things it's small potatoes but I take good service very seriously. I love it when a place or waiter/waitress stand out! I'm not going to slam this place as maybe it was a bad night ... just everything seemed out of sorts! I will come back ... Absolutely the worst meal and money spent ever. Ordered the bacon wrapped filet with shrimp (medium) with baked potato and side salad. Steak showed up rare, my husband eats his steak medium rare and said he wouldn't even it, it was almost raw. I sent it back and after 20 minutes of waiting, it came back still rare. Even the server said it was not medium. Our waitress continued to apologize and said she wasn't sure what was going on in the kitchen but would correct it. My potato was half cooked (hard in the middle) and shrimp were Luke warm (like they had been sat under a heat lamp) I declined further cooking of my steak because at this point I wasn't hungry and really didn't want it going on the grill for a third time. Plus I didn't want to piss a cook off and get something added to my food (if you catch my drift) My husband ordered baby back ribs, they were tasteless and Luke warm, mediocre at best! We ordered drinks, white cranberry cosmopolitan for me, Margarita on the rocks for my husband (he had more rocks than Margarita) My first drink was delicious so I ordered a second, it came out tasting like lemonade (no cranberry sugar on rim or in the drink) our waitress once again apologized but rather than offering to get a fresh drink she said she'd have them add some cranberry. Come on people!! My husband asked for less ice and more Margarita on his second drink......this did not happen. When you're paying $13.99 for a glass of ice it's gonna piss you off. Bonus was the server who bought my husbands food stuck his thumb in the condiment on the side after nearly dropping it in my husbands lap and he just left without offering to replace it or even apologizing. Gross! We paid $90 for a meal that was awful and ruined. This was after they took my meal off the check. We do not mind paying for good food and usually spend a lot more on our meals in Dallas but decided to keep the business in Rockwall. NEVER AGAIN! I'm giving one star because the side salad was okay. Funny thing was the table next to us also complained of their food being under cooked and cold also. I was actually hoping to get our meal comped to be honest because it was terrible and not a good experience at all. We never usually complain and understand no one cooks food perfectly every time but when you're a business and serving the public it would be worth their while to provide decent food especially if they're going to charge $$$ for meals. My husband and I along with our sons family ate here Saturday evening for my husbands birthday. The service was slow. Granted they were very busy. However when we got our meal, my daughter in law never got her steak salad. We asked about it and they said it was still coming. Ten minutes later still nothing. Twenty minutes later and everyone else had finished their meals. My grandkids who are little were getting fussy and ready to go. Finally her salad came. It's not like you can ask for it to go - it's a salad with warm steak on it! Lame apologies, no offer to comp the salad, or even offer a free dessert as we sat another 10 minutes waiting with fussy kids for her to hurry through her meal. Where do I start? We went to Saltgrass for Mother's Day and a Birthday yesterday evening. We arrived and asked for a table of 7 (6 adults and a baby). They told us the wait would be an 1 hour or an 1 1/2 hours. After waiting for two hours, we went and asked what was going on. The host told us that the manager made the "Brandy" group a priority because they were griping and making a scene. This resulted in them passing us up while we were patiently waiting. So now I know if you gripe and make a scene, you can get a table faster. The " Brandy" group got there after us but got a table 45 minutes before us. GREAT MANAGEMENT! Then when we finally received our food. All of our steaks were either wrong or cold. This is unacceptable on the management at Saltgrass. read more

Food: Bread and sweet butter are given as appetizers, and they're both pretty good. I ordered a chicken fried steak with Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was good, very creamy and yummy! The chicken fried steak on the other hand was okay. As soon as I cut into it, a lot of the fried portion crumbled and revealed the small bit of steak that was actually inside. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but It tasted much better with the addition of the gravy. Some of my family on the other hand ordered the honey bbq ribs, which tasted really good. None of the portions were very big, but for my mother in law who prefers to eat light, it was perfect. Overall: All in all, it was okay. This was our first time at Saltgrass and it was such a pleasant experience. Our server (Chapman) was very thorough in explaining the dinner and drink specials that were being offered tonight. The portions are large and the food is delicious. I ordered the Chicken Laredo. I would highly suggest this for those who are not big fans of red meat like myself. It was SO flavorful! Perfect mix of cilantro, tomatoes, onions, avocado, poblano and feta placed on top of the chicken. My husband ordered the 12oz ribeye and had a side of Mac and cheese. The steak was cooked perfectly and the Mac and cheese was creamy and flavorful. Our son had the kids sliders and it was also a nice size portion for the price! We ordered the cheesecake to go and it was so creamy...excellent texture! Oh how could i forget...we did the cheese fries for an appetizer...omg sooooo many amazing toppings! Full disclosure-- I've never actually eaten IN this restaurant.... but we have gotten to-go many many times. Saltgrass is a perfect "we want a good dinner but don't feel like cooking it and we don't feel like going out either" place. Everything is packed up nicely and really does make the trip well! I've had everything from salmon, steaks to sandwiches and all is great. It's on the pricier side- but the quality is worth it. All food has been ready when they said it would be and you can tell they actually strive to be accurate. They even throw in bread and cinnamon butter too! I'm elderly and have to use a walker. From the moment I rolled up to the door, I was treated with great respect and thoughtfulness. My Granddaughter treated me to dinner as an early Christmas gift, as I don't get to go out to eat very often. I came away from this experience with a huge smile on my face. Our waitress could teach the art of waitressing, she is that good. My Granddaughter is very picky and takes a long time to decide on what she wants. Our waitress was wonderfully patient with us, returning several times to check if she was ready, as well as offering us more bread and checking on our drinks. She then saw to it that we got the extra butter we asked for immediately and answered several questions my Granddaughter asked about menu items, always with a smile on her face. The food was wonderful. We had a lot of leftovers because we always order the large steak simply so we can make a second meal of it for the next day. Our waitress was quick to box up our leftovers, making sure that she kept mine separate from my Granddaughters, since we both ordered the same kind of steak. She even added an entire loaf of bread to the take-home box without our asking for it. The steak was cooked to perfection... medium rare, exactly as we like it. The sides were good, but it was the meat that shone. Another star menu item is the bread. Never tasted a loaf quite like it, and loved every tender, hot bite. The fried mushrooms were fresh and extremely hot and juicy, with a very light coating, making the mushroom flavor shine through. An important note to add, all this great food, and even greater service was given to us during the very busy dinner hour of 6 p. m. That impressed me the most. Very small quibble, there were so many customers that the noise level made it very hard to hear and our table did not have adequate lighting overhead so I could barely make out the menu and really had to squint to read it. Such small details would have stood out if not for the excellence of the other factors that are more important when eating in a restaurant.
