Spent the weekend in Tahoe and chose Saltgrass Steak House for dinner before the JoKoy comedy show. It was a Saturday night and were seated immediately. The main dishes took a while to come out but it was worth the wait and it allowed our party of 4 time to visit and conversate. The food, from the appetizers to the main dishes were delicious and made our eyes roll to the back of our heads...Lol. for reals, it was that good! Our server was Paulie. We were able to book a table for 10 for a Sunday breakfast for my mom's birthday. Place mostly empty when we arrived. It's inside golden nugget at Tahoe. Hard to get a Sunday reservation for a big party anywhere at Tahoe so I took a chance. Mgr wasn't aware of our reservation but quickly set up a large table. Seated within 5 minutes. Waitress was good and friendly. Menu very limited and very expensive. I ordered eggs Benedict for 18.99 and it came without a side like hash browns or any garnish. Worse, my poached eggs were well cooked but completely cold. Later learned that my daughter's steak (steak and eggs, $24.99) was completely cold. Also that my niece's pancakes were cold, and my brother's cfs ($24.99)was served without gravy and was burned on bottom to point of having to cut or scrape bottom off . Two mimosas ordered and neither were more than 4 oz for $12 each. I asked about no hash browns with my eggs Benedict and was told I could order them for $4.99, my brother asked about gravy for his cfs and was told he could get a side with a biscuit for an additional $12.99 I asked about my eggs being cold and was asked if I'd like them microwaved or order remade (about twenty minutes). I declined . I know that this is a new place , and interior is adorable, and people were nice enough, but when a simple breakfast sets you back over $300 with tip, the basics should be right. I will say that the folks (3) who ordered breakfast tacos said they were outstanding. Came here last night with my family. Needless to say, we will definitely be coming back soon. I ordered the filet mignon medium well with asparagus and raspberry iced tea (i don't drink). The steak was so tender and juicy and our waiter was very nice and did not mind explaining anything to us. The place was pretty packed but we got seated quickly and the restaurant was very clean and the lights are somewhat dim for those who can't see too well. We are here after not being able to check in to our room early. Our server, Keenan was very friendly and attentive. The menu is simple but the food was quite good. The prices were better than I would expect for a hotel steakhouse. I would definitely go back, it's the only bright spot about staying at this hotel. read more

I stopped in and had dinner at the bar. Service was spot on. Ian was warm and friendly. I ordered a filet with shrimp topping, green beans, and bread. The bread was dry. The green beans were ok. The steak was way undercooked and the funny thing is that they didn't ask my temp pref. I like mid rare and this was purple. The steak also had a hole from a meat thermometer so not sure how they missed the temp. The steak also had the chain with silver skin so there were some bleh bites. read more

My wife and I went on Father's Day (June 15th). We had reservations for 7pm. We arrived at 6:45 and were quickly greeted and seated. Restaurant was about three quarters full. Then the wait. It was about 15 minutes before someone came by. We ordered water and a cocktail each. Those actually came out at a decent clip. Ordered our food. They did bring us bread and butter. Bread was not my taste, but the honey butter is good. My wife ordered the shrimp duo with Broccoli, I ordered the Filet cooked medium with a baked potato. We ordered another drink before food arrived. Took a bit for our food but not super long. The shrimp duo wasn't aesthetically pleasing but actually tasted decent. Broccoli was good. The filet was cooked a nice medium but was cold and lacked any flavor. Like butter on the top would not melt cold. Potato was good. Next round of drinks arrived well after dinner. Bar wasn't that busy for a draft beer. Our waitress was nice enough but absent for extended periods. Manager did walk by and ask how our meal was, so I told him. He was nice, apologized, and commented how several staff/cooks had called out. After we got our drinks (and talked to the manager) we waited a long time for the check. A very long time. I raised my hand and finally got up and flagged someone down to get our check. We got our bill slightly discounted which we did not ask for, was nice to do, but that was not the point. Prices seems reasonable for Tahoe but not so much when it is not very good. I feel bad for restaurants in general but also want to have at least a pretty good meal and experience if we pay a decent amount of money. This didn't meet that level. read more

I really wish I could write a better review. We were vacationing in Tahoe for the first time at the Golden Nugget, The Saltgrass Steakhouse was one of only three eateries available as the hotel is currently undergoing a huge renovation. The other two were a Starbucks and The Oyster Bar (reviewed separately). We saved Saltgrass for our last night. Disappointing. Just because a restaurant calls itself a "Texas" steakhouse, that don't make it Texan! This eatery has got a great "Texas" feel. The staff is friendly. The menu fairly robust. We were looking forward to a good last meal on our last night in Tahoe. From there our experience devolved. A 15 minute wait for our server to arrive, although it appeared there was ample server coverage. Finally, we both ordered the 12 oz. ribeye steak - medium rare and took the server's suggestion and added the wedge salad. 20 minutes later the steak arrived. Cooked well. Decent but unremarkable, When our server checked on us, we told him we hadn't yet received our salads. He apologized and then said they would comp the salads (duh). Half way through the steaks, the salads finally arrived. We didn't eat them but they looked pretty good - too bad they hadn't come 40 minutes earlier! Overall it was a disappointing evening. Luck I had great company (my wife). If we return to the Golden Nugget, I won't be returning to the Saltgrass Steak House. Good luck to all! read more

So I was so excited to try this place! The reviews seemed great and I wanted a steak lol! We were seated right away which was nice, our server came right away to get our drink order and bring us bread. I ordered a side salad, potato and sirloin. The service after we ordered was just mediocre. The guy who brought us our food was interesting... brought us the food and then we didn't get checked on for quite some time. I ordered my steak as medium and got well done. The seasoning was good but super well done. When our waitress did come by we explained that the steak was well done she sent the manager over who was very apologetic and determined to make it right. He was able to clearly see it was very well done. I will say I was grateful to her for speaking up and him for coming out to make it right. When we did get the check we waited about 10 mins and no one came to grab the check so we took it inside and saw that our waitress was also serving inside so I'm guessing that they were understaffed and that was why we had delay in service. She was pleasant and I don't blame her for the over cooked meal, but do wish we would have had someone check on us right after so we could have shown it was over cooked from the start. I ordered the filet Oscar medium-rare and after a long wait it came out with very little crab and blue. When I politely told the waitress (Alyssa) and showed it to her, she argued with me so I had to ask for the manager. The manager came out and immediately acknowledged that the steak was blue and said he would take care of it. By that he apparently meant that he would tell the waitress to come back to the table without an apology and just announce that it was taken off my bill. Garbage restaurant and apathetic, rude staff who think they have guaranteed clientele because it's a tourist trap. read more

I was excited when I saw there was a Saltgrass in S Lake Tahoe. I only knew of it when I used to travel to Texas for work. It was easy to make a reservation on Open Table. Staff was above friendly. Our server was more than happy to make recommendations and he made good ones. We got the fried pickles as an app, grilled salmon Ceasar salad and filet (rare) for entrees. While we were staying at the "new" Golden Nugget casino/hotel we decided to try the Saltgrass Steakhouse which was located on the premises. We're glad we did. Our server, Tracy was excellent. She was super nice, made suggestions that were spot on, was sure to check on us often and attentive to all of our needs. I would have to say that she goes the extra mile, which is becoming increasingly rare nowadays. After dinner we sat by the fire pit on the heated patio. Oh yeah, the food was very good. Working in the restaurant industry myself, I always really appreciate great service, especially when I have my kids with me. He was very attentive, kind, and just an overall great server! Came here again with family and chose the filet and added the lobster tail. The lobster was half raw and the steak was over seasoned. There was an extra charge for the side salad that normally comes with the dinners at the other Salt Grass I've been. I'm used to the Salt Grass I go to where they split the the plate if you're sharing for no fee but here it wasn't even a thought, they offered to bring a plate. It was so slow it wouldn't have done any harm for them to do a little work. This inconsistency in style of service at locations is confusing and if the quality fails it takes away from the craving. read more

This was my first time at Saltgrass. The place was clean, well maintained and an overall amazing experience! Steve, the bartender, was welcoming and very attentive. My wife and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary in South Lake Tahoe in early June. We stayed at the Golden Nugget, and after trying to decide where to have dinner we decided on Saltgrass steakhouse. We shared a full rack of ribs which was plenty for both of us. They were moist, tender and delicious. We had the pleasure of being served by Ryan. Ryan was a great waiter. He checked on us just the right amount. Our drinks were always full. He was friendly and we all joked and had a great time. We told Ryan it was our anniversary, and he offered us a free dessert to celebrate it. We were so full we had to turn him down. He said that if we came back, he would honor the offer. So we left the restaurant, did some gambling, enjoyed Tahoe a little bit, and then went back. Just as he said, Ryan remembered and us greeted us with a smile. He brought us our anniversary dessert on the house, just as he said. We got a couple of drinks with Kahlúa and Bailey's that were just fantastic. We will be going back guaranteed asking for Ryan. Ryan was built for hospitality. He reads his customers well, and makes sure their needs are met. Went here on a busy night before a concert. The restaurant has nice bar ambiance with lots of country inspired things type look at on the walls, and music playing throughout the restaurant. They were busy but moved surprisingly fast through the service to turn customers. We didn't feel rushed but appreciated that the service was quick and efficient. My steak was good, cooked just like I wanted with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad. The worst steak house in South Lake Tahoe! My wife and I went there for my birthday last March before I realize it's a chain across the Midwest. We both ordered martinis and the waiter brought them out and said I hope these are OK because apparently the bartender didn't know how to make a martini then we ordered ribeye steaks. It was the saltiest steak I have ever eaten and therefore, my wife and I both left more than half of the steak on our plate. The sad looking male host sets the tone for the experience. When approaching the host desk and you speak to him, he looks annoyed that he has to take his ear buds out to talk to you. He states its 5-10 minute wait. Although the place is nearly empty. After waiting 20 minutes someone walks in and says they are going to order at the bar. I asked if we can order food from the bar and he says yes. He simply could tell customers that the bar seating is available. A host should give a pleasant vibe or at least be proactive in some way to make a customer want to come in. An elderly couple also stopped in and walked away after dealing with him. Same thing..Ear bud. The poor elderly guy had to bend over close to the kid to hear him as he spoke so low on a condescending voice . Pic attached of the empty restaurant. So, we had been looking for a place for a long time to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we ended up choosing Saltgrass. But honestly, we regretted it even before entering the restaurant. The hostess was extremely unwelcoming and unfriendly. I had taken care of getting a good seat in advance and made a reservation, specifically requesting a quiet corner table due to the birthday celebration. However, the hostess seated us in the central area, despite having available side tables. She claimed they were reserved. but almost all the seats were freed up within 20 minutes of our arrival and there were no new reservations The service was a 3+--for me, that's an important part of the restaurant experience. We ordered steaks, salads, and a couple of cocktails. The food was good, and the price-quality ratio was decent. Overall, it wasn't bad, but the restaurant was at most 30% full, yet the waiters acted as if they were serving a fully packed house. Unfortunately, they don't offer any small birthday compliments, which surprised me. However, our waiter, a nice young guy (I think his name was Andy?), brought us ice cream despite the restaurant's rules, for which I was very grateful. Still, I didn't feel comfortable in this place. Everything could improve. We went after a show at the event center and sat at the bar. We shared a ribeye and sweet potato fries that somewhat resembled cafeteria food. The ribeye was so fatty I don't think I got one bite of solid steak. Only slapped a handful of fries on the plate which were soggy. Granted, it was after 10 pm so maybe the kitchen is slacking by then or they were running low on items.
