While we were staying at the "new" Golden Nugget casino/hotel we decided to try the Saltgrass Steakhouse which was located on the premises. We're glad we did. Our server, Tracy was excellent. She was super nice, made suggestions that were spot on, was sure to check on us often and attentive to all of our needs. I would have to say that she goes the extra mile, which is becoming increasingly rare nowadays. After dinner we sat by the fire pit on the heated patio. Oh yeah, the food was very good. We had great service and food on Thanksgiving! Our server was awesome and very attentive. Most of us had the sirloin steak which was delicious. The chicken fried steak was huge (2 big pieces) and the mashed potatoes and gravy was very good too. The Fried Mozzarella appetizer was huge and perfect for our large party. Working in the restaurant industry myself, I always really appreciate great service, especially when I have my kids with me. He was very attentive, kind, and just an overall great server! My wife and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary in South Lake Tahoe in early June. We stayed at the Golden Nugget, and after trying to decide where to have dinner we decided on Saltgrass steakhouse. We shared a full rack of ribs which was plenty for both of us. They were moist, tender and delicious. We had the pleasure of being served by Ryan. Ryan was a great waiter. He checked on us just the right amount. Our drinks were always full. He was friendly and we all joked and had a great time. We told Ryan it was our anniversary, and he offered us a free dessert to celebrate it. We were so full we had to turn him down. He said that if we came back, he would honor the offer. So we left the restaurant, did some gambling, enjoyed Tahoe a little bit, and then went back. Just as he said, Ryan remembered and us greeted us with a smile. He brought us our anniversary dessert on the house, just as he said. We got a couple of drinks with Kahlúa and Bailey's that were just fantastic. We will be going back guaranteed asking for Ryan. Ryan was built for hospitality. He reads his customers well, and makes sure their needs are met. This was my first time at Saltgrass. The place was clean, well maintained and an overall amazing experience! Steve, the bartender, was welcoming and very attentive. He went above and beyond with getting me the things I was requesting. Everything from the appetizers I ordered to the dessert was simply delicious. Went here on a busy night before a concert. The restaurant has nice bar ambiance with lots of country inspired things type look at on the walls, and music playing throughout the restaurant. They were busy but moved surprisingly fast through the service to turn customers. We didn't feel rushed but appreciated that the service was quick and efficient. My steak was good, cooked just like I wanted with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad. I wouldn't say come here for a romantic dinner, because you won't get that but for a decent meal without unloading a ton of cash, I recommend. read more

The worst steak house in South Lake Tahoe! My wife and I went there for my birthday last March before I realize it's a chain across the Midwest. We both ordered martinis and the waiter brought them out and said I hope these are OK because apparently the bartender didn't know how to make a martini then we ordered ribeye steaks. It was the saltiest steak I have ever eaten and therefore, my wife and I both left more than half of the steak on our plate. The restaurant did not have adequate staff leaving one bartender to handle all the customers. When we arrived at lunchtime, it was hard to find a table because most were dirty and had not been cleaned; I've never seen a restaurant in this condition. We sat there for about 15 minutes and we finally had to get our own menus, waited 20 minutes for a drink order, waited another 15 minutes to get the drinks, asked if we could order bread and butter for a starter and she said she didn't have time to put any in the oven for the day so bread was not available. We ordered our meals with both entrees being over $50 and received them approximately 40 minutes later. My medium rare filet mignon with Oscar topping was overcooked and cold, my asparagus was crunchy and inedible, my husband's filet mignon was cold, and both of our baked potatoes were undercooked and hard. It was just a bad dining experience all the way around so we would not return. The sad looking male host sets the tone for the experience. When approaching the host desk and you speak to him, he looks annoyed that he has to take his ear buds out to talk to you. He states its 5-10 minute wait. Although the place is nearly empty. After waiting 20 minutes someone walks in and says they are going to order at the bar. I asked if we can order food from the bar and he says yes. He simply could tell customers that the bar seating is available. A host should give a pleasant vibe or at least be proactive in some way to make a customer want to come in. An elderly couple also stopped in and walked away after dealing with him. Same thing..Ear bud. The poor elderly guy had to bend over close to the kid to hear him as he spoke so low on a condescending voice . Pic attached of the empty restaurant. We had dinner here before the Earth Wind and Fire concert. Kevin was our waiter and the service and food were fantastic! So, we had been looking for a place for a long time to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we ended up choosing Saltgrass. But honestly, we regretted it even before entering the restaurant. The hostess was extremely unwelcoming and unfriendly. I had taken care of getting a good seat in advance and made a reservation, specifically requesting a quiet corner table due to the birthday celebration. However, the hostess seated us in the central area, despite having available side tables. She claimed they were reserved. but almost all the seats were freed up within 20 minutes of our arrival and there were no new reservations The service was a 3+--for me, that's an important part of the restaurant experience. We ordered steaks, salads, and a couple of cocktails. The food was good, and the price-quality ratio was decent. Overall, it wasn't bad, but the restaurant was at most 30% full, yet the waiters acted as if they were serving a fully packed house. Unfortunately, they don't offer any small birthday compliments, which surprised me. However, our waiter, a nice young guy (I think his name was Andy?), brought us ice cream despite the restaurant's rules, for which I was very grateful. Still, I didn't feel comfortable in this place. Unfortunately, I expected more. Everything could improve. We went after a show at the event center and sat at the bar. We shared a ribeye and sweet potato fries that somewhat resembled cafeteria food. Potato bacon soup is home made from scratch and is very delicious . 10 oz center cut sirloin and a huge loaded baked potato. Yummy!! This is a fun place to come for a great dining experience. Atmosphere is loud and country music playing. If you want a great steak dinner then this is right down your alley. Lots of wonderful decorations to look at while you're here dining out. The managers check on you at the table to make sure your experience is perfect. This place I was told just opened in September so they are well on their way to having a very successful establishment. We love Salt Grass steakhouse so when we found it at the golden nugget here in Lake Tahoe, Nevada side thankfully, we wanted to eat here and then found that they opened at 8am and serve breakfast, win win!! The service was excellent! It just opened so they brought people in from Texas to get it going, no wonder the service was so great! The food came out and it was fantastic! The breakfast tacos were a taste of home (we moved to Nevada from S. Texas) so we were excited to try them! There is plenty of seating options with tables, booths, bar side and outside! We loved everything we ordered and felt like we got our monies worth. So many things around here feel overpriced for tourists. This place was an exception in our opinion. Our server (Luis) was super friendly and a bit of a jokester which I always appreciate. The decor is Texas overload and they played country music (which I enjoy). They serve a really good Michelada in a tall beer mug! I got the country fried steak which was supposed to be 8oz but looked to be a more generous cut! And it's an actual ribeye! I love fried pickles and these were some of the better ones I've had so don't pass on those if you like pickles! We made reservations for Saltgrass Steak House after reading about its great reviews on Yelp. We made reservations on "Open Table" and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by our waiter "Kevin" who was friendly, personable and professional. He even told us the history of this restaurant which is known throughout Texas. My husband ordered a 20 ounce bone in rib eye with a baked potato and it was delicious. He was more impressed when they had his favorite steak sauce, "Heinz 57." I ordered the prawns with a baked potato and they had just the right "spicy kick" and delicious with a baked potato. Sorry to say this was not a good experience at this Saltgrass, we are from Texas, and Saltgrass is our favorite restaurant. First off our waiter Zack was not a friendly guy. He was rude, and very slow. They sat us, we waited a while for him to come, didn't ask if we wanted bread. Finally brought our drinks, walked away, 15 minutes later came back for our order. 30 minutes later brought our food ( still no bread) we had no utensils or napkins, when we asked him for something, it was like we were bothering him. Steak was not cooked how we asked, so rare, and lots grisly. Never came back to refill our drinks, finally Jay came by and had to get our check and to go boxes. Atmosphere was great! read more

We were greeted by a host who was seated and on the phone? so we almost missed them at first a bit of a quiet welcome. That said, we were seated quickly and our server arrived right away, which was great. We started with the shrimp cocktail absolutely delicious. I frequented the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for many years and continued during the awful transition. I've been in many different types of food service for 13 years (bars, clubs, large professional sports venues, fine dining, coffee and wine, etc) Extremely disappointed for several reasons: Some waitstaff that have worked since this was Hard Rock casino, and quite a bit of inexperienced staff. I'm assuming that the cooking staff is also very inexperienced given the two experiences I had for dinner and breakfast. I wouldn't complain about the Benedict about being over priced if it came with anything in addition to small poached eggs, thin slices of ham, and English muffins smaller than my palm and harder than card board. The English muffins couldn't even be cut with the steak knife they gave me and were inedible. Wait staff was perfectly nice--asked if I wanted a new dish, but I didn't want to wait too long and so I just asked for new English muffins-which came out perfectly the second time around. For dinner I got the salmon Oscar--loved the idea of breaded asparagus, but the breading was under seasoned and quite bland. The salmon was cooked slightly over and very salty. It would have worked if the two balanced out but they were too far on each end of the spectrum. I'd be happy to give them another chance after they work out issues and build up more cooking experience/familiarity with the menu and how food is supposed to be cooked. I'm am MOST disappointed that Park Prime closed and this is the replacement....Park prime bounced between a 3.5-4 out of 5 but the pork belly, crab cakes, steak, lobster truffle mac, and Seabass were all go-to's if I wanted a nice sit-down dinner. Hopefully not permanently closed. Currently Salt Grass resembles more of a black angus but with a limited menu. Only thing that would make it worse is if oyster bar closed. When making changes to a large establishment, quality needs to either stay the same or improve, not down grade and eliminate alternative pre-existing options that are better. read more
