We had our family Christmas dinner tonight at Saltgrass Steak house in Waco. Daughter and her husband, son, his wife and two children and my wife and I. My son and I both ordered the small ribeye steak, med rare, and my wife ordered the small filet. Her filet was about 3/4" thick and half the size of a dollar bill, nothing like a filet should look. on top of that it was dried out like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. My sons ribeye and mine were so tough, like old sirloin. I sent mine back and they brought out another, which was just as bad, only warmer. Neither one of us could finish our steaks. Now I know it was Baylor graduation and somewhat crowded but when you pay $26 for a steak it should be a good quality no matter how busy they were. I will say the waiter was good and prompt, the side dishes were good but I'm not going to spend that kind of money for baked potatoes or Mac and cheese. Next time we sill go to Texas Roadhouse for better quality of meat at a cheaper price. read more

Hesitant to give even 1 star.....Called ahead and I was told me could get on wait list as a Landry's Select VIP and could move to the front of the line behind other VIP members already in line, we arrive 10 minutes later to be told that the VIP status meant nothing on a Saturday night. We paid for the benefits of being a VIP. Wonder how regional manager, Mike Benson would respond to the lack of customer service at this location? We walked across parking lot to another national chain where we've never paid to be a member and we were seated within less than 10 minutes and enjoyed pleasant staff and great customer service. read more

I've eaten at many Saltgrass locations, but this Waco one needs some work. Went for an early dinner tonight to avoid the rush. Restaurant was pretty empty, as expected at 4 P.M. The service was pretty awful. I think we only saw our actual server when he greeted us, delivered our drinks and check. When the food runner brought our food, we asked for some condiments and he took a while to bring one of the things we asked for. When I reminded him of the others, he seemed annoyed and took even longer. The food was decent enough, but for the price, there are much better steakhouses in Waco. read more

Went in for a Easter dinner with a family of 7, waited 20 minutes for our appetizer, never got refills On our drinks so we asked the hostess for drinks and bread, we never got it. We went to the bar and asked for some water and tea refills, she gave them to us. Our food finally came out and it was cold, after arguing back aNd forth with her. We asked for a manager and she told us that she could reheat our food for us and that was all.the manager said she couldn't tell us her name after we asked it but a server told us her name was christy. some servers come up to us after and laughed and sat on the table next to us and told us that we were disrespectful. Excellent first experience at Saltgrass. We came at 6pm on a Saturday evening, sat for our table of 2 in about ten minutes. Everything was timed perfectly, we ordered an appetizer and were mostly finished with it when our pre-meal salads came out. Shortly after we finished that, our food came out. I ordered the grilled pineapple margarita, which I highly recommend. It's a top shelf drink and was very smooth with good flavor. Little tip, be sure to eat the slice of pineapple - it's been soaking in tequila. For food, I had the surf and turf, an 8 oz sirloin with fried shrimp and the garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was a little closer to MR than M (which is what I ordered) but was phenomenal reheated. In sum, this was an excellent experience with good service and great food - I look forward to coming back! read more

We've eaten at saltgrass one time before and enjoyed the prime rib. This visit decided to split the large prime rib. Ordered crabcakes at a recommendation from her waitress and added a Caesar salad before the main course. Got the crabcakes about a half hour later, long wait and not that crowded. Manager visited us and apologized. Another half hour wait in the prime rib showed up which I sent back because we had not got our salad yet. Once again manager showed up and apologized and comped the crabcakes, which actually were amazing on a good note. Prime rib came and it was nothing like we expected. Very fatty and not tender at all. May have been sitting under the heat lamp for sometime, had to send the mashed potatoes back because they were cold. Once again manager came and apologized, they did give us a slice of cheesecake which was huge and wonderful, I would come back just for that. Sawgrass is it excellent steakhouse. We found a review on yelp that lead us there and expectations were high but our experience was even higher. Our waitress was awesome she provided just the right amount of service and her recommendations turned out to be perfect, my wife enjoyed the tortilla soup and I, the 16oz ribeye which was grilled to perfection. I would suggest anybody that wants a good night out with excellent food and great wine make Saltgrass their top choice. read more

This was my first time at this location and the lack of respect and professionalism from our sever was beyond disrespectful. Originally the hostess went to sit us in the back by the bathroom and we declined and asked to be moved closer to the front. Upon her moving us the server for our section immediately had a problem asking the hostess why we wanted to sit there instead of the original table and trying to convince her why we should sit there. Then the hostess left our menus and the server proceeded to throw the napkins on the table instead of placing that. Mind you she didn't even introduce herself.At that time we got up and left because we don't have to be treated like that in a place where we are the customer spending our money. I will say when I called and spoke to the manager she was very apologetic. Being professional women of color out celebrating a major accomplishment we deserve to be treated with respect. read more

I've been to Saltgrass twice. Once at dinner Today at lunch. Both times -- outstanding. The food was great. Within our group, we had a center cut sirloin, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, chicken fried steak and a burger. Everyone was so impressed -- and this is a fussy group!! I ordered food for take out/curbside during Covid 19. The server did a great job of juggling the dinner rush with a smile on her face. I can imagine they are working with a skeleton crew right now due to mass layoffs everywhere. They were out of some of the item menus but again, under the circumstances, I totally understand. Overall, I was really impressed with the way everything was handled and the quality of the food. I was disappointed to read another recent reviewer criticizing the food and service. I would hope most people have a little more compassion and understanding for the staff who are risking their own health to keep their meager paychecks. Went there hoping to find an AWESOME STEAK! I did! I ordered the Bone in Ribeye! So Delish! I have had a $50.00 steak before, but this steak was so much better! Cooked perfectly to my specifications! The seasoning was great and the steak came out piping hot! The sweet potato was perfect! No need for butter, cinnamon etc. on it! My husband ordered the chopped steak! He said it was delish too! Went for husbands birthday, had high hopes. Steaks were not cooked as ordered for at least one person in our party, and the side dishes were fairly bland. For the prices we were expecting much better food. Our server was average in how much attention we got, but the fairly sour attitude was a pretty big turn off. She never smiled and wasn't interactive or friendly at all. To be honest, it feels like this place is trying to be super fancy, but the food quality and service is what you'd expect at an Outback Steakhouse. Every single thing I ate at this restaurant was perfect from the bread, queso dip with brisket, dinner salad with ranch & my amazing filet mignon with loaded garlic mashed potatoes. We were seated and waited for 15 minutes and no one came over to our table to get our drink orders or even to let us know that it's going to be a minute. Went in on a slow night and sat at the bar. It took 25 minutes to get my side salad out of the kitchen. When the entrée arrived 3 minutes later, it had been under the heat lamp so long that the juices dried out on the plate and the meat was so cold that the tab of butter on top wouldn't melt. After sending it back, the second attempt was so undercooked as to be raw on the inside, and apparently they recycled the vegetables from the first plate because the green beans were cold. Finally, on the third attempt, I got an entrée that was cooked properly, at the right temperature, and a side that was edible. The final straw was when my bill arrived and they charged me for two entrees instead of one. While I have thoroughly enjoyed my Saltgrass experience in other towns, I advise that you avoid the one in Waco, or, head down the street to Outback instead. read more

First time to a Saltgrass restaurant. Unfortunately the last. The place was busy which gave me high expectations. Instead, I had a meal that I could have gotten at a TGIF for half the price. We never recieved our waters, my fiance's steak was cooked well but it did not come as it was suppose to with mushrooms and whatever. I never recieved my salad. I ordered the ribs and chicken combo. Thoroughly disappointed in everything about this place. At our last visit, we arrived at the beginning of dinner service and thought a light crowd would mean a more attentive service. Not the case. We were the only ones at the bar and everything took over 5 minutes to even order as the bartender wandered off frequently. We first ordered the queso appetizer and when it arrived it looked like a dog poop in some cheese. The meat was lumped in a log shape, hardly warmed, and stringy. We sent it back,no request for a replacement. Ten minutes later my chicken tortilla soup arrived, cold. My boyfriend put his finger in the soup and agreed it was cold. We wanted to send it back and have our entire meal order cancelled, disappointed with everything thus far. It took ten minutes for us to find a single employee...finally a wandering waiter went back to tell them. The bartender then came out and asked what we wanted to do? Again we said we wanted to cancel everything and get the check. We'd happily pay for our beers. He walked off. The kitchen manager then came out. He was agitated from the start. I have mixed feelings about my visit to Saltgrass in Waco today. The good: we were seated quickly, the atmosphere is great, my drink (Texas tea) was strong and yummy, and my steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server was a sweet kid named Tyler, and he was friendly and engaging. The bad: Tyler spilled a tray, which was holding two glasses and a carafe of ice water, behind me and I got pretty soaked. Like, ice down my sweater and pants soaked. I'm not "one of those customers" and I know things happen. He was apologetic and mortified. I feel as though in that situation, a visit from the manager and maybe at least a comped drink would have been appropriate, but that didn't happen. However, upon getting our checks we were charged the full price. She told us we didn't order the happy hour sizes of the drinks nor did we order at the bar. Clientele definitely was an older group (a lot of tables with people in their 60s+...we felt a little out of place. Ordered a handful of items off the recommendation of the waitress: Blue cheese bacon filet was really good (though small), but I definitely recommend it. Mac n Cheese was not great. I would say don't order it. Steak soup was fine, but reminded me of Campbell's vegetable soup or something. The bread that comes with the meal was so-so...
