Being from Connecticut, I like to see some New Haven representation so far away from home. They do a good job with a few hiccups. Salvation Pizza wasn't coal fired, and offered pizza by the slice- which is not typical in New Haven. They did have clam pizza, a New Haven staple, but no tomato pie. Still, the style was authentic a little charred, a little doughy, a flops over a bit- all good qualities in New Haven style apizza. read more

I'll reaffirm the average pizza rating. It's not worth going out of your way to eat. I had a large pepperoni pizza. The crust was thin but so was the edge of the crust (that's not right). The cheese and topping were ok. I liked the sauce. Since I've actually eaten at the best New Haven pizza joints - I can most positively say that this is nothing like those pizzas. Those places have long lines, and it takes 30-40 minutes to get a wood fired pizza. This place tastes like Austin Pizza. I personally prefer Little Deli for pizza. read more

My review is more about the poor service and attitude of the girl working tonight. We came in just to grab a quick slice of pizza. Didn't realize they closed at 11pm but there were 5 people sitting inside drinking and 3 outside so assumed they weren't closed. Ordered a slice of pizza and while we were waiting we were checking out all the games sitting on the table. We weren't planning on staying or playing any games but we're just looking to kill time. The girl working there (not the bartender) came up to us and stated "just to let you know we are closing soon." We looked at her confused and said, "ok?" And she proceeded to look at the games as we stood there and we just said "we weren't going to play a game, we were just looking." Then she walked away. We got the slice of pizza and noticed when we got to the car that it had some weird cheese sprinkled on top of it. We took it back in and said we didn't ask for this cheese and was told it was Asiago cheese and they always put it on the slices. I've been to this location as well as others multiple times and I've never had this cheese on my slice of pizza. Either the other times they just didn't put it on or this time she was just being rude like before and just wanted us to leave. Either way, I'm not happy about how we were treated. It's pretty unfortunate. Especially since this place was always great before. Now I know to come back during the day time when this specific person is not there and when the other more pleasant employees are working. read more

I had a horrible experience recently by one of the managers here. First Salvation staff are racists and very anti-dog. They allow their customers to dip their trash and smokes out in the same dog bowls they leave out which could kill animals. So a week ago I was walking my dog and my dog is drinking water. He always splashes in the water. He's a new puppy. I've had him for 4 months and previous managers at Salvation encouraged him to splash in their water they leave out because they thought it looked cute. This one manager comes out and yells at me saying you should really teach your dog how to behave, you've been doing this shit for 2 days in a row, really?? Then he glares at me. I've been going to Salvation for over 2 years, but because of this situation I'm boycotting salivation and I encourage everyone on Rainey that owns a dog to do the same. Personally I'd fire that guy, he was a tall skinny guy with a man bun. You guys lost a previously loyal customer just because he couldn't hold his tongue and his anger. I've noticed they now put away the dog bowls so dogs can't drink anymore from the outside area. Your wait staff needs to remember who pays your bills before you start yelling at customers. Additionally on a separate occasion I almost had my dog stolen from a customer of theirs a few days before. Do not eat here. If you're a dog owner they probably will spit in your food. read more

Spent over $100 on pizza for my family of 7 for 3 pizzas and one app. I ordered through the Favor app and by the time it arrived the pizza was lukewarm, crust was very chewy, almost no cheese. Crust was thin (which we like) and the flavor was fairly good, but it was a very expensive mediocre pizza experience. I hate to leave poor reviews but look elsewhere if you're going through a delivery service. Dining in may have led to better pizza but still $$$. read more

So about a month ago this happened and the only reason I'm writing this I saw the review from Matthew W below and I think its the same dude that he is talking about. I had been to Salvation many times usually during the day for lunch or on the weekends before going to the bars i live across the street. This was on a Tuesday afternoon and I was working from home so I decide to take a break and get a pizza and grab a beer while I waited. The bartender first off looked like he was still drunk from the night before. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes before even being acknowledged and when he did it took him another 10 minutes to get my beer and a menu. When I asked him a question about how long it would take for a pizza to come out he scoffed"I don't know like 20-30 minutes." As if I was a complete inconvenience. He only had like 3 tables in the place and one other person at the bar that already had their food. I miss the bartender Christa that used to work there she was always awesome and could take care of way more people than this ass hat. I was finally able to order a pepperoni pizza when the dude got off his cell phone, which only took about 10 minutes, and i ordered a second beer because his pattern of service was already a 2. I finished my beer and the pizza came out and paid. i would have probably stayed to at least eat a slice or 2 but this guy just has no customer service skills and I didn't want to give him any more of my money.. When I got back to my condo the pizza was burnt AF on the bottom. Just not going back there for a while or maybe ever which is a shame I liked that place hopefully management changes or they take a look at their employees because their customer service has hit a low. read more

My family and I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We were visiting from out of town and someone recommended Rainey Street. We had our dog with us and were told this was a very dog friendly area. We researched restaurants that are dog friendly, and decided on Salvation Pizza. We chose to eat outside, and our waitress, Anna Leah, was very unfriendly from the beginning. I asked her if our dog was bothering her and she said no. From then on, Trent waited on us. He was unbelievably rude. I am a 45 year old women there with my husband and children. We were not drinking, nor were we disrespectful in any way. Trent chastised my husband and I as if we were children for bringing an empty container from a food truck. We all ordered entrees, so we didn't understand why this was an issue. After our evening was ruined by Trent's terrible behavior, which was my daughter's birthday dinner, my husband went in to talk to Trent. We later learned that he was retaliating for Anna Leah because she said our dog knocked her down, which was a blatant lie. I have never in my life been treated so poorly at a restaurant. The food was fine but the service was absolutely the worst I've ever experienced. Eat here with caution. read more

The best pizza I have ever had!! I've been to the Rainey location a few times, and had the pleasure of getting to know several of the staff / management members. They have always been supportive of my eating needs (best meatballs in American history), and drinking needs (Rye Whiskey and a rotating and large selection of draft beers and cider). I have only been to the 34th St location once, and it was also nice. I hear they are opening a new location in the Domain area, so if you are around there, it's worth checking out, if you are undecided on where to get the pest pizza. read more

I ordered delivery at 10:30pm and it arrive in less than 30 minutes. Pretty awesome speed! I had spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and cannoli bites. All of it delicious! The cannoli bites came separated so you had to put it together yourself and I totally liked that because I'm weirdly picky and I could make them to my liking. I wanted to try Salvation because 1) I am from Chicago and need constant good pizza 2) I bought a groupon 3) the restaurant recently made it on to some top pizza in Austin list. Last Sunday I ordered a large pizza and added the following toppings: pepperoni, ricotta, and sundried tomato. The total was somewhere around $24 (!!!!). $6 of that was for the additional toppings. The toppings were horrifically sparse. I couldn't believe I paid so much extra and didn't even have one pepperoni per slice. The same went for the rare tiny dollop of ricotta and small sprinkling of sundried tomato. There was also almost no cheese and the sauce was bland. I had to heavily top the pizza with the cheap Parmesan packets and added my own olive oil for some moisture. If I had eaten in restaurant, I probably would have sent it back. The blonde cashier/bartender was also not very friendly. And judging by how empty the place was, it seems the management should visit some of their competition. This place is in a big expensive brick and mortar building. It has potential, but don't skimp because your overheard is astronomical. read more

Recently moved into the Rainey st neighborhood and decided to try Salvation Pizza for the first time last week, since it's right across the street from where I live. Staff seemed friendly and offered a couple suggestions as to what to order. We decided on the meat balls and parmesean wings for starters and a couple beers, had to take advantage of happy hour. The appetizers arrived fairly quickly, however they brought out regular hot wings instead of the parm we intially ordered, however we were rather hungry so we didn't bother addressing the mistake. The meatballs were not too bad until I pulled a long black hair from one of them. I immediately told the waitress behind the bar and she put in another order for me. After all this we decided to forgoe ordering a pizza and opted for the check, now don't get me wrong, whenever I havr had hair in my food or a wrong order the manager or staff always makes an effort to strike it from the bill or atleast offer a free desert, however this time was the exception, there was no apology or credit. We paid our bill and vowed never to step foot in Desolation Pizza again. Although we didn't order a pizza, seeing now the reviews on here, I am glad we saved our money and our appetites for later. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a pizza restaurant. The waitress quit mid dinner and was rude the whole time. The pizza was decent but the guy who checked us out was extremely disrespectful after we asked for the checks to be split as the waitress had promised before she ditched us. A simple "Hey we can't do that" would've been fine but he was beyond rude to me and my wife and became very agitated with me for no reason. The nicest people work here. I just watched the manager deal with the biggest euro trash asshole in town for formula 1 weekend and was so gentle and kind. These guys deserve your business. Where do I begin? Not feeling like cooking on a Tuesday night I decided to order some pizza from the door hanger menu, which offered $5 off. After visiting the website I also saw the awesome two topping Tuesday deal for $15.99. After explaining that I was ordering the deal, plus an order of mozzarella sticks and mentioned that I had the coupon, I was told that it would be $21 and that my food would arrive in 30-35 minutes. A little over an hour later (not to mention I'm roughly 1.2 miles from Rainey) my pizza shows up and the delivery guy tells us that he wasn't told about a coupon, and didnt have the ability to change the price on the receipt. I reluctantly just gave him the extra $5 so I could shut the door so my cat wouldn't run out. I then went to pick up a piece of cold pizza which fell apart. That, along with one of my cold mozzarella sticks, were somewhat flavorful, and probably would have been much better if I would have heated them up. However, leftover pizza is a dish best served cold, so microwaving was not in the books for me. While the sausage was flavorful, and a great flavor in combination with the spinach, I would not trust to order from them again. read more

Arrived early and waited over 5 mins for a beer when there was only 20 people tops in the whole restaurant then after finishing one beer we asked for a meat ball appetizer that looked popular and was completely forgotten about we waited for over 30 mins for an app wasn't offered a new beer or even notified on the status of our order this place will loose money because their staff isn't getting it for them good food only goes so far surely won't be back even after having a wonderful encounter with one of the waitresses that was off and greeted me while we smoked a cigarette together she even offered to buy me a free slice because I am a self taught chef... completely disgusted with my experience here and by the way this is my first ever yelp review I tend to let these things go because I've been in the industry my whole life but this was purely unacceptable zero stars. Waited 45 minutes and when I asked when my pizza would be ready, was told a customer had "taken" my pizza. Yeah right. Just say you accidentally gave it away. No apology, no offer of discount or any explanation. Just told me to wait another 20 minutes (turned into 30) for them to make a new pizza. So, I just sat in Salvation pizza for over an hour and the employee hands me the pizza without saying a word or apologizing. Unfortunately, this is pretty standard for this location. I've had problems every time I go there and the service can be terrible. A lot of negative energy in that place and it feels like people don't like to work there. read more

Best white pizza I've ever had! Toppings were fresh and they are not stingy with the servings. Crust was perfect. Also ordered a Cesar salad, which had a bit too much dressing. Maybe offer the option for the dressing on the side? $8 for a plain Cesar salad? That's a little expensive, but I'm sure the rent is also high on Rainey St, maybe it is what it is, but I won't be buying a salad again unless they offered a small version. read more
