If I could give this place a -3 I would. We made a reservation for 7 for a Birthday. We called on the day of to confirm and they had it down for 8 and said too bad we already have other parties at 7. We arrived and our table wasn't ready. No problem, we went to the bar for drinks. The service at the bar was terrible and the drinks weren't any better. Not even a drink list available. Also, severely overpriced. After an hour of our table not being even close to ready and another large group also not being seated still for their 8 o'clock reservation we left. Really really good food! The sushi is really interesting, You can have your standard fair such as yellow fin or salmon etc, But they also have some very interesting specials like their Godzilla Roll. In addition to the sushi menu they have a fusion of Asian dishes. My favorite is the Hot Stone Bibim Bab. Rice with vegetables and beef served in a hot clay pot with some spicy sauce (on the side if desired) and an egg on top. Very interesting flavors and textures. I had read reviews about the loud bar and was wondering if this would take away from my experience. Since we went off hours there was not much noise. The dining area is split, downstairs is a hibachi and upstairs is other dining and this room adjoins the bar area. Given there is a college right next door I can imagine how it would be loud if the bar is busy. All the same, the food is so good and is of very high quality. Had an awesome dinner experience tonight! Came here with my three teenage sons and a friend and they had a great time. Chef Brian was totally entertaining and kept us laughing. The restaurant wasn't busy around 6:30pm. We went on a Saturday night and arrived to an over-packed restaurant with an...eclectic...crowd, where we waited 45 minutes for a table (for 6). If you plan to go on a Saturday night, don't expect to have any sort of meaningful conversation with your party: there's a (loud, obnoxious) Karaoke DJ spinning the Worst of the 80's. When my friend told me to meet her at Samba in Framingham, I thought it was a dance club or a churrascaria. I was shocked to walk in and see a huge Buddha statue to the left of the room. We had such a good experience here and will definitely be back! The food was really tasty! We had the chicken satay app, the spicy beef and green bean entree, and two maki rolls - the new wave and rock n roll. The one roll had lobster and scallop, and was really special. I got a cocktail (they had a wide variety!) which was good and not sickeningly sweet. I was worried that the atmosphere would be a bit stuffy or adult, because they have lots of happy hour specials advertised and we were taking two small kids, but it was a laid back atmosphere, with people watching the ball game at the bar and people talking, laughing, but it wasn't too loud. Went here on Sunday night for early dinner.. they only have 3 chefs so they've hired a magician to entertain the guests while you wait for the chef to arrive. We ordered some sushi as an appetizer and the spicy tuny handroll was disgusting. It was minced and mixed in with tempura flakes and no vegetables at all. It was inedible. The hibachi part of our meal was just okay, not anything worth returning to especially since our server forgot our order and the chef had to go back to the kitchen a couple times. When we visit Samba, it's usually to get a bento box at lunch. It's almost always pretty quiet, and so we enjoy a nice, relaxing meal without a lot of distractions (although after all you Yelpers read my good review and crowd into the place for lunch, maybe it will be a zoo from now on). There are TVs near the eating areas in the upper level, which I don't mind. The food and service have been uniformly good, and this is over perhaps 15 visits. So I've had a chance to test their full range of bento box options, and all were delicious. The only incident to mar a perfect record was a dispute over a menu item that I ordered, and was later told in emphatic terms did not exist on the menu. I started pawing through the stack of menus, trying to prove that I wasn't hallucinating. After a few scary minutes, I found the menu I'd been given, which was an old menu they'd neglected to replace. It was good-natured all around, and it's a minor point at best -- I'm just relating the story to liven up the review. I've also eaten hibachi at this location, and it was solid and entertaining, as expected. Can't speak to the dinner experience. I've seen the place packed on some nights, probably due to karaoke night. I promise to stay away from Samba on karaoke night, so you all don't lose your appetites! read more

Went on a Monday night w/ a large group, we occupied an entire 'section', w/ both grills. Had the grilled tuna and sashimi sampler for starter, was very good. We were 'ordered' to stick w/ the Hibachi menu (work party), and I had the filet and mahi mahi. I ordered my filet medium, my buddy next to me ordered med rare...but we both got the same (med), despite seeing a small pile of med rare next to our set of filet. The scallops were very caramelized. My mahi mahi was pretty good, they drizzled some sort of sauce on it. Loads of rice, in fact, he heaped all the extra on the plate of the smallest person in the group :-) I can never understand why they cook the rice first, virtually everyone nibbles on the rice while the rest of the meal cooks. Timing was a bit off, I was halfway done w/ my filet when the vegetables and bean sprouts came. While obviously not possible to have everything simultaneously, it would have been better to get them closer together. Lots of food, tho', I had to doggy bag my plate. Dessert was cheesecake, chocolate cake, ice cream (I didn't get any). I plan to bring the kids, I prefer this to Chef Orient a couple of miles away (for teppanyaki). read more

My All time Favorite place to go on a Friday or Saturday night. I love to sit up in the tables int he Bar and get an array of sushi. However my favorite thing about it is that on weekend nights they DJ comes in and it turns into an almost club like atmosphere. People push back the chairs and everyone dances. My family went to Samba for the first time in a while. We used to go there a lot before we stopped eating red meat. We ordered hibachi, curry, some sushi, etc. Everything was pretty good. I very much enjoyed my seafood curry dish. The service was great as well. We were seated on the bar side, where the noise level could get pretty high, but it was not so loud this time. This place is lasting longer than the other tenants that have been in this building. The owner is very friendly and generous he sent over some appetizers to us, the food is a mixed bag however. I have been here a few times and if you go for the sushi, you can't go wrong, the teppanakki, (did i spell that right?) steak house grill is dependent on the skill of the individual doing the cooking. It is inconsistent. I have had awesome meals there and the last time I was there, it wasn't very good. Maybe I was there on a bad day. Samba has delicious hibachi! I have been there many times and never had a bad meal. The fried rice is very good, it's my favorite part! I don't understand why people below were mad about the amount of fried rice. FYI - it's not good for you no matter how much you have, but man is it tasty! that's why you come to Samba... to eat the rice once in a while. I also had the filet mignon steak (same price as the other options) and loved the shrimp. drinks were good too. downside: i do think it is a little over-priced (food and drinks) but i doubt that will change since it's so popular. Families - don't go on Friday nights after 8pm. DUH! Yes, you will find a 21+ crowd having a good time. come in early that night or during the week and you will find other families enjoying themselves. don't get mad at Samba for targeting different age groups. that's called being a smart business owner. 21+ crowd: be prepared to drink and spend money. you will have fun watching people dance and trying to convince your friends to sing karaoke. all-in-all samba is a good place to eat and be entertained. read more

My son, who won't touch a spec of ethnic food, including Asian, has always loved going, just for the hibachi show. The people running the show at Samba that night knew, from the moment we walked in the door at 7pm, that they wouldn't have a chef for us for a couple of hours. Management admitted it, sometime after our first full hour of waiting. Every step of the way--from bringing menus, to taking drink orders, to bringing drinks, to taking food orders--was deliberately drawn out as long as possible, to try and bridge the gap until a chef could be freed up. Had the restaurant staff been straight with us when we first got there, and warned us about the insufficient chef staffing up front, we would have had plenty of time to change our plans. We also would have greatly appreciated that kind of honesty, and would have gladly kept this restaurant on our list of favorites. Instead, after stringing us along shamelessly to the point where many other restaurants were approaching their closing time on a Sunday night, they have given us little choice but to cross them off our list permanently. We had been here for hibachi on a Thursday night and had to wait for 20 mins .. So def make a reservation ! The place is lively and the decor is pretty good . The good was decent .This place starts a karaoke bar after 9 I think .. So that was fun .. I sang and my party and the other people at the restaurant cheered me on :) .All in all it is a fun place but nothing special . They have an elaborate sushi bar as well which I couldn't try cause I was pregnant at the time .. But there is always a next time ! Needed to (sushi) roll myself outta there tonight. So much fun at the Sushi 101 class and the best part - eating our own creations. Not having taken a cooking class of any sort before, I thought maybe $70 per person was a bit much, but luckily I was able to grab a Groupon. Two people for $59? Ok! Coming from Boston, it's a hike, but I would do it again (just not in rush hour traffic). The instructor was really cool and two of them demonstrated making three different kinds of rolls before we got started. In the middle of their demos though, some guy was going around and asking people to pay for the drinks they had just ordered or open a tab - obvi we have to pay, but it just seemed to interrupt and distract us. After that we got to pick our ingredients for our rolls and get to work. The variety was pretty good - basic stuff (tuna, salmon, crab - and spicy versions, along with cucumber, avocado, mango, tobiko and panko), so it wasn't too overwhelming. The instructor walked around and helped anyone that looked like they were struggling (thanks!) so that was nice. We each made three rolls, which turned out to be a lot, so we'll see how well my work holds up by lunch time tomorrow. Highly recommend - also makes for a nice date night :) read more
