First time we visited Samba the quality was good and so was the service. Last week we had a different experience. The restaurant is understaffed. the food is good but a bit expensive; and the mandatory 20% tip is wrong. If you visit Samba let the server know that you like to add the tip yourself. You are not under any legal obligation to pay 20% tip unless they let you kknow before you order your food. read more

We went there for hibachi with our kids midday on a Sat. Only 2 groups there so it wasn't busy. Waitresses were rude, rushed us and there were 4 different ones, all the same attitude. The hibachi chef was nice and food was really good. We added side dishes to our meals and were told one price and it ended up being more on the bill. This seems to be the birthday party go to place. I brought my daughter here to celebrate and there were many others doing the same thing. The hibachi show brought many laughs and it is one of my kids favorite places for a show and a meal. The salmon entree was the best fresh fish I have ever tasted, and I am very fussy about my seafood. The whole family and friends were there to celebrate my daughter's 50th birthday, and it was really perfect. Three chefs at 3 tables were efficient and entertraining. I had not been to a hibachi restraurant since a trip to Key West in the 80's where we ate at Benihana's. The fried rice and veggies were great, and the service was impecable. Went for hibachi the other night and had a great time. The chef was hilarious. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. I wish the chef had used a lighter hand with the sauces, he really drenched everything. We'll definitely be back and just ask them to go easy on it next time. read more

We get there the manager is very welcoming to us and brought us to our table, I told him that I'm just going to the bathroom to put makeup on so I could look nice and take pictures. They have tables for habachi on the top floor with a big Buddha and in the basement with a smaller Buddha lying on its side. We sat in the bar area and ordered off the extensive menu. Sushi was delicious and so was the fried rice. The menu offers much more interesting items but that is what the kids wanted to eat. There are fancy cocktails at the bar and a huge wine cellar downstairs of Napa Valley wines where you can pick yourself! Overall, a pleasant surprise to find this place off the freeway. read more

One of my favorite sushi places ever! There is so much variety and everything we ordered tasted amazing! The overall ambiance of the place was nice--lights were dimly lit. Has kind of a bar feel to it...which makes sense because they do have a full bar, I believe. I had made a reservation a week ahead and stated I did not wanted to be seated at the hibachi tables. When I got there, they were leading me towards the hibachi half of the restaurant, which I informed them again that I put in a request to be seated at the regular tables. They were able to seat us with a little bit of wait on our end, but they made sure they got everything right for us, so the wait didn't matter. Now to the food. Like I've mentioned in the beginning, there is SO MUCH to choose from. I would go again just to try out everything they have. There were 9 of us, so we ordered a TON of sushi. For appetizers, we got avocado balls (which is a MUST try) and gyozas/dumplings. We also ordered some Chinese dishes. I won't go into detail about each of the items we ordered. Everything was delicious! The sushi were decent sized (I say this because in some places, the sushi just looks sad). The presentation is what got me. Everything is nicely organized, arranged, and made. The waitress was very attentive. She made sure she got all our orders correctly and came frequently enough to make sure everything was okay. They have parking right outside the restaurant. It's a bit of a ride for me since I'm coming from Boston, but it would be worth the drive. Honestly though, this isn't the place I would frequent. Good place it is very clean unlike many similar restaurants. When you enter there is not discussing smell. I liked the food in general as well. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because of their hibachi chefs. Forest time we went he mixed up the type of the stakes that we ordered and we end up paying extra $9 per stake that he served to Our table mates. 2nd time we were there yesterday and I specifically asked to have a nice chefs as we went with kids and were there for the show. My kids kept waiting for the full show however he skipped the parts when they engaged the kids, and when we asked why he does not do it he said due to covid sometimes we have complained so I decided to skip it yet the chefs on the Naiber ONG table were doing the full show. As we were seated the fire alarm went off. The manager told us not to leave. It went off for a good 8 minutes. No one even apologized. Our server came over to take drinks order. We ordered the food as well. The tempura was doughy. We never got our salads. The shrimp was overcooked and the vegetables weren't were salty. The server never checked how our food was. When she eventually came over about 26 minutes after we finished she dropped the check. No asking if we wanted anything else. The server never smiled or said thank you. Looks like they took some people off the street, and told them - serve food to tables. First of all you have no idea who the waiters are. They are wearing plain cloths and have no name tags. Most of them don't really understand English and have no idea about the menu. They stop by your table with dirty dishes they picked up at other tables, put them on your table, and take your order by writing it down on a piece of paper. You would expect this from some seaside hotdog shack, not a sushi and steakhouse restaurant. Ambiance - outdoor patio is lovely. We came in on a Friday evening and found an open table, Inside was almost empty on a Friday evening, which says a a lot. This place has great potential. When we asked for the non-alcoholic menu she seemed upset (kinda like she had to go out of her way). I'm so bummed out by this place. I loved coming here back in the day but for the last 5 years, every time I decide to stop by for some sushi, the service is AWFUL. I'm seated and nobody comes by to check in, ask if I want a drink, food finally is ordered an hour later and comes out and nobody is around so I can pay my bill. Eh, nothing much here. I've been to a few other hibachi places and this one was probably the most aesthetically pleasing (upstairs only). For the quality of the food I find it to be overpriced. I'm not a huge fan of a meal that costs over $20 and is comprised mainly of heavily oiled fried rice when it was supposed to be shrimp. There was very little flavor to the hibachi meal and it left a strange aftertaste that I couldn't put my finger on. I wasn't planning on returning to Samba but then we ended up going for my friend's birthday. Given the poor hibachi experience, I ordered the Spicy Tuna and Fashion Maki. The sushi was all right, but again, it had a funny taste and it was served warm. And it was also -- surprise -- expensive! I'd rather go to Star Market and get their brown rice sushi any day as opposed to coming back here. My friends who grew up in the area all swear by this place, and love the karaoke on Friday nights. This is a good place for a crowd. We went there with family. All of us vegetarians and we didn't sit at the hibachi table. We opted to sit outside on the patio. We got some veggie sushi and veggie hibachi. Also got some veggie tempura and gyoza dumplings. The sushi wasn't bad. Loved the mixed green sushi. Everything else was good just not amazing. I got a mojito, which was pretty strong. Their fried ice cream (which was on the house - we are not sure why..) was infact amazing! The wait staff was really nice and poilite and responsive. The filet mignon and shrimp both tasted delicious, and the salad with ginger dressing, vegetables, sprouts, and fried rice were also very good. I was a member of the clean plate club but you could get 2 meals out of an order. The negatives were that on Christmas Eve we were seated at 7 for a reservation at 630. The power went out. That's right, the power went out but kudos to our chef who cooked right through the power outage and a few minutes later it came back on. The waitress charged our party for the entire table. I came back with friends,because its Sunday kids eat free and they provide joe the magician as entertainment. I cracked the the Samba code: If it says "must try" next to the menu item then TRY IT. As long as you stick the must try menu items you will be extremely pleased with the meal. The drinks are strong and well made. The service: they are still understaffed and not attentive. This is very annoying for any diner. They don't check to see if you want another drink and do not refill the water. The $7 bought from BJ's frozen dessert which is microwaved is just obscene, and extremely disappointing. read more
