We stopped in on the way south to SoCal. Sunday afternoon saw a steady stream if customers. Tuna sandwich and the Wrigley salad (with tuna) were large portions and delicious. Yummy! I eat gluten free but I still love this sandwich shop, mostly because the food is so good, but also because the proprietors are so friendly. They make my grilled sandwiches without bread. They also have gluten-free focaccia bread, though I haven't tried that. They get their meats and veggies locally so the food tastes fresh, healthy, filling, and just downright yummy! OK-- I'm giving Sammich 3 stars because while I LOVE their food, the last 3 times I've eaten there, I've found hair in my food. I am very sure It wasn't my own hair because, well, it was completely the wrong color and length. Their food is so tasty, and my BF loves it to death, but I'm very hesitant to go back. I want to eat my food, not floss my teeth with random hair. If you're not bothered by that, their house made dressing they put on the lettuce is really good, and I love their bread they use. Little strip mall take out place with some tables. They have very good home made meat; the pastrami is excellent. We had a baba ghanooj sandwich that was good also. But they raised the prices in the new year (and didn't honor the prices found on the Internet site). If you're traveling on a road trip going down to Cali, this place is a great little gem. Portions are large and don't let the pictures deceive you. Food is so good. My fiancé and I got the Italian beef and the pastrami Sammich. Both were delicious and super flavorful. The Russian dressing was on point for his sandwich, pastrami was really tendor. The Italian meat had so much goodness going on. It is a wet sandwich but not overly soggie. It was the first time I've had a wet sandwich and I didn't know what to expect. Amazing! This a new place and improvement is possible. It's a "hole in the wall" deli sandwich place behind Miyama, where the old "Hot Spot" used to be. There are a couple of problems, in my opinion, Pricing is one of them, the hamburger (nothing special about it) is $10, served with potato chips. A cheese sandwich is $7. A tuna sandwich is $14. At this price, portions seem small, the menu ordinary. They are describing themselves as "gourmet" sandwiches and priced that way. The sandwiches are run of the mill. They are boasting that they use fresh northwest ingredients and that they "make their own pastrami". (There are sports bars in Ashland that make their own pastrami.) When I commented that the timing for opening a restaurant in that space was poor because the college kids were leaving or gone, they told me that the "gourmet" food offered did not appeal to a college crowd, anyway. The potato chips are out of a bag, there no condiments (no mustard choices, for example), the cold roast beef "sammich", I had, was served on an ordinary bun with shredded iceberg and few onions, and a little cup of non-descript vinigrette. Water ran out of the sandwich and the potato chips were soggy when delivered. I ordered the roast beef "sammich" - the available options were mayo or no-mayo. The "ambience" is another problem. The concrete floors are filthy, sticky and stained; the chairs are mis-matched and the tables wobble. It looks like they gave the place a once-ever with the broom after the Hot Spot left and nothing else. The counter seating along the wall is uninviting. They did not clean the restaurant after the last business was in this location; will they clean up after themselves? I do not agree that this is the best sandwich place or deli in Southern Oregon. Anyway, I think it is local people trying to appeal to a local crowd and for that, they are to be applauded. It is not a franchise. I wish them luck. - read more

I walked into Sammich at 11:00 -- opening time -- on a recent Friday. I looked at your menu boards and walked out. The offerings were hard to decipher and the dollar signs were way too high when all I wanted was a simple sandwich to take on a picnic. One of you (an owner, I presume) followed me outside to inquire why I left without ordering. Never in my 52 years has a business owner been so dedicated to a sale that they stalked me to the parking lot giving me a sales pitch. Does this person sell used cars on the side? I should have resisted the sales pitch and gone to Subway. This person bragged about fresh, organic ingredients. Please, if I hear the words "organic" and "locally sourced" one more time, I will move to Antarctica. The sandwich was boring and hard to eat without 15 napkins (therefore negating your mission to be environmentally-friendly). The shredded lettuce far outweighed the proteins on the turkey/cheddar sandwich. No seasoning and minimal additional veggies to perk the sandwich up makes Subway seem like a Michelin-rated restaurant compared to Sammich. By the time I got to Lithia Park 10 minutes after paying an exorbitant $9.45 for this sandwich, the mounds of mayo had rendered half of the baguette so soggy that I couldn't eat the bread. I come to Ashland every August for OSF and am always anxious to try new restaurants. I will not send my critique to the Daily Mail (thankfully for you) but I do want to share some advice . Provide a menu that customers can touch and study -your chalkboard might be trendy but is hard to read. Your prices are ridiculously high. The turkey on my sandwich was good but the lack of flavoring like salt/pepper or herbs and limited options to make the sandwich taste "to order" irritated me. At least Subway, for $5, will give me a sandwich with all the veggies and condiments I want. Your restaurant interior with posters of Chicago sports icons looks like the college dorm room of a U. of Illinois student (reminder: Ashland is in the Pacific Northwest) and the food did not seem to have any "Chicago" connection. You have a crappy location for tourists and minimal parking; yes, great location for SOU students but they can't afford your outrageously high prices. At least pull some money from your advertising budget to get your location placed on the official Ashland tourist map. I counted six employees in a space the size of my bathroom. How can you justify this payroll? What do all these people do? I heard one of these employees tell a customer who ordered after me that they would have to wait 15 minutes for their food. Fifteen minutes for a simple sandwich -are you kidding? Re-assess your staffing and commitment to customers. If I have to wait that long for food, I better be getting a cooked-to-order steak, a freshly-tossed salad and a sommelier to provide a wine pairing. I will not be surprised to see Sammich gone by next August. You guys have an oversized opinion of what you can offer the Ashland diner. read more

Best sandwich shop in Ashland! Try anything on the menu- you won't be disappointed. Also great fun to visit because the staff is so lively. My 16 year old son has Celiac disease, and they go out of their way to make sure he does not get any food that is cross contaminated. Just make sure to say that you are Celiac and not simply request "gluten free" It is the only restaurant in town that he can safely eat. read more

Wow customer service here was at an all time low. I asked for bacon and avocado to my turkey cranberry sandwich and was told I was "messing up their sandwiches". Nothing on the menu says no edits to their limited order. I was really looking forward to this deli experience being from the east coast and working in the service industry my whole life. I've never in my life been spoken to in that rude of a manner for simply wanting to add additional items to a sandwich I am paying for. I have been here several times over the last year, and after my last visit, I will not go back. The first time I went, the sandwiches blew me out of the water; fabulous and satisfying. Since then, the quality of their food has deteriorated to the point of no return. I wanted to treat my moving crew to a special lunch for their hard work, but it bombed. We ordered Reuben's based on previous recommendation of one of our party. First of all, the owner ringing us up got into an argument with one of us about whether eggs are dairy or not. Really didn't matter except that she felt the need to prove us wrong. Not only that, but after what we considered "friendly banter", she wrote "Jackass" as the name on the ticket. Is that the way a small business treats it's patrons? Moving on to the sandwiches, when they arrived, I took a bite and realized that I was chewing pure fat, not meat. Upon inspection there was more fat than meat in the thickly cut beef. When we brought this to her attention, her response was "You didn't order the lean meat; next time order 'lean meat'". Seriously? For a $12 sandwich? Hostile service, bad ingredients, and overpriced sandwiches do not encourage return customers. Skip this place, it's not worth it. read more
