I'm from Illinois and love deep dish. I've ordered Sammy T's twice and it's a great pizza. But it's nowhere near the picture on the website. It's closer to thick crust than deep dish. They need to update their photos online.

Nice traditional old town restaurant/pub. Staff was helpful and attentive. Menu had a variety of food options. I especially enjoyed the vegetarian choices. Bathrooms clean. Has some outside seating. Portions good.

My wife loves the grilled cheese sandwich and fries from here. My son loves the stir fry. All the food we have had from here is good so far. The staff is friendly and move quickly to get you served. The inside is decorated nice and is a casual environment to set in while you relax in downtown Fredericksburg.

Cool place with pop artwork, great vegetarian and vegan offerings, prompt and excellent service. What's not to like??? It's a staple on Caroline Street with great variety of shops to see and visit!

Went for BRUNCH this past Sunday Sept 21,2024. Haven't been here for a Rueben or lunch here in years and was driving through town from FL. Decided to take a good friend who just moved to the area and this place was a terrible disaster at best! We both ordered brunch, Eggs Benedict, which is supposed to have POACHED eggs. Our breakfast came out after waiting more than 30 minutes. I know they were busy but this was 1 pm in the afternoon so well after the breakfast rush. The poached eggs were hard! If your cook cannot make a poached egg then Eggs Benedict should NOT be on the menu! We then sent the meals back and I ordered a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. My friend ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich. Neither of these meals are hard to make. We waited another 45 minutes and the meals were not made a priority AT ALL! The people across from us, that came in well after us, not only got their meal but ate all their food and left and we ere still sitting there. Our iced teas were NEVER refilled the entire time and our waitress could not be bothered to come to our table, apologize for the shitty service or tell us even when our meals would arrive. She managed to give us a "side eye" look when she walked by and continued to ignore us. I am very generous when it comes to writing up good food places because I know how hard the restaurants work but these employees couldn't have cared less that we were even there. I am so angry about this visit because I really wanted to show my friend the area she moved to had some great eateries. We will never come back no matter how good their Rueben's once were! This place should get no stars but at least they know how to brew iced tea which a toddler could do. We left the place leaving $6.50 on the table which is far more that the iced tea even cost and far more than this restaurant deserves! Shame on the staff, shame on the manager and owners for NOT taking care of customers even on a busy day. The waitress actually seemed put out to be waiting on us. The hostess seemed distracted and less than interested in being employed and everyone else ignored us. OH we also ordered a side of the breakfast potatoes and they NEVER came out. I don't even think the waitress ordered them. Never again. They are lucky to get the rating I gave them. Get new owners, managers and staff because this IS NOT the Sammy Ts I know and you should be ashamed! The only good thing about this place is the nostalgic furnishings I remember when this was a good restaurant.

    The other half -

Not sure what's happened at Sammy Ts but I had the worst food experience since being a patron for over 40 years! I ordered pot stickers that were hard (they are supposed to be soft) as if cooked hours earlier. For 5 they were whopping $15.00. Naturally sent them back. A second order got them right - served hot and soft. Then my go to with a cool Guinness, a Roast Beef Ruben. Used to cost a manageable $8.00 is now $15.00, so I expected at least the same typical way a Ruben is served. Hot on Rye, grilled, juicy meat with kraut, Russian dressing, etc. Nope. Not what I got. The meat was dry and almost white in color. The bread was not grilled or toasted, way too much swiss cheese melted over the meat, barely any kraut and a squirt of dressing on 1 half. I stomached part of a half. It was awful and tasteless. I boxed the other half for a contractor who works for me who will eat it. No chips or fries included for $15.00 as well. Those cost extra. If it weren't for the Guinness I would have walked out! Get your act together Sammy!! Your standards have plummeted and you're serving grub. Overpriced at that. Let me get in that kitchen of yours and show you simple, healthy, delicious cooked food. Worthy of a good rating. But, most Americans just settle and that's part of the problem. It will be a long time before I return.... For a Guinness.

Amazing food, tastes just like homey cooking! Went here with friends and they had excellent service. The food was out fast and the waiter was very respectful. The music is nice and the tv was playing but nothing was too much.

    Nachos

This was their sliders. Literally just unseasoned ground meat on bread. What?! We also got the nachos, which were nachos with slices of American cheese melted. What?!

The Gus burger was hearty, beef patty was thick and delicious... the fries are interesting... like a hybrid between a fry and potato chip. The onion rings are large and seem to have a funnel cake coating! Crispy and well fried. The French toast is thick and fluffy and the bread density is amazing! My daughter also enjoyed the bagel and cream cheese... The BLT is filled with beautiful pieces of ham and turkey... it's so hearty! Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. We'll be back soon to see Lashone!

They were cooked to perfection and had a great sweet sauce. I enjoyed the salad too. They also brought out wings, mini burgers, mini fried chicken sandwiches, and tuna. Our waitress did not greet us warmly, make eye contact, introduce herself, or provide any information about the restaurant or menu. At 12:45 p.m., we ordered our food and drinks, and at 12:50 p.m., our drinks arrived. Around 1:30 p.m., we realized our food still had not come out, while other tables being served by our waitress were receiving prompt and friendly service. Our waitress passed our table four times without stopping to provide an update on our food or apologize for the extensive wait time. We were finally able to get her attention and politely asked about the status of our order. Without an apology or acknowledgment of our experience, she responded that she would tell the chefs to "rush" our order. We never asked for our food to be rushed -- we simply wanted an update because we had already been waiting far longer than expected. When our food was eventually brought out by another staff member, it was cold after nearly two hours of waiting. At that point, my husband asked to speak with the manager because not only was the wait time unacceptable, but the food was also cold. The manager eventually came to our table, apologized for the delay, and offered to discount the meal. My husband thanked him for the apology, but by that point, we decided the experience was not worth salvaging. We told the manager we did not want the cold food or watered-down drinks. Not only was our Mother's Day celebration ruined, but the lack of accountability from the staff and the poor customer service made the entire experience extremely disappointing. Service: The first impression was a little mixed. The hostess wasn't very welcoming when we asked about a booth for our family of five (two adults and three younger kids) and didn't seem open to exploring the option. Thankfully, our server, DeQuandre (Deq?), completely turned that around. He was friendly, attentive, and offered great recommendations. We appreciated his visits as he was energetic and very hospitable, highly recommend asking for him when you visit. Food: We started with the buffalo dip. It comes with chips, but Deq was awesome and add some pita, which was a great call. The pita was slightly crisped (almost lightly fried) but still soft inside and paired perfectly with the dip, which had great flavor and good chunks of chicken. For burgers, we ordered the Spicy Wrangler (March 2026 Burger of the Month) and the Whiskey Burger. The Wrangler had a lot going on but the flavors worked well together. The Whiskey Burger was delicious, the sauce was a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, but the bacon was excellent. Only critique would be the burgers were slightly underdone even for medium, but still enjoyable. The onion rings were a standout, though the breading-to-onion ratio leaned a little heavy. The fries were decent but nothing particularly great about them. Atmosphere: Casual and open, but fairly loud. Even though it wasn't very busy for a Sunday lunch, the music and bar noise made it a little difficult at times to hear others at our table. I wouldn't consider this a date night type atmosphere, more casual open dining. Drinks: Solid beer selection with enough variety for most tastes, plus a small cocktail menu and a selection of wines. Overall: Harry's Downtown is a solid spot for a casual lunch or dinner. If you're in the mood for a good burger, or consider yourself a bit of a burger enthusiast, it's definitely worth checking out. This visit was positive enough to plan another visit to explore other delicious sounding menu items. We'll definitely be requesting Deq when we return! Thank you!
