I've been coming here for about 2 years now. It was one of the better priced breakfast places around. And from one week till the next there prices went up $2-$5 on their menus with little orange stickers over the old price. Their breakfasts combo went up $4. I find it crazy to raise their prices so much. So I'll not be going back having to pay $20 for eggs,bacon, potato's and a pancake. Every person that sat down complained to the serves about the prices. I don't see them lasting much longer. read more

Tried this place out because I was craving some eggs Benedict. The English muffins at the bottom were nice and soft, the ham on top of the muffin was thick and seasoned well, and the eggs came out just like I requested...over medium. Ok. You get nice portions, but it lacks flavor. Got the French toast combo. The French toast was good. The syrup was kinda thin. The country potatoes were bland. The potatoes had big pieces of bell pepper. I ordered over medium eggs, came out on the edge of over hard. Not much yolk dipping. My wife got the 2 egg breakfast. Again, hash browns had no flavor. We got some salsa to mix in our food. The salsa is good. The sausage and bacon were pretty good. The service was very good. Very pleasant people. When I come home from LA, I like to leave the city early and get a start home. Using Yelp, I pick out a restaurant somewhere in the Foothill communities--preferably a mom and pop locals place. I bookmarked Sammy's and entered in on my GPS unit. As a tip to others, the entrance is on the west side of the building. Sammy's is in a corner building of a retail center. Once I figured out where I needed to go, things were OK. The counter person seated me immediately and left menus with me. A runner came to offer coffee before I had much time to look at the menus. There is a lot for breakfast. I opted for the Carmen omelette--having sour cream, cheddar cheese, Spanish sauce, green chili, and avocado. I had a choice of potato and chose the hash browns. For my toast, I chose rye which is my normal choice. I had a coffee refill before my omelette came. That doesn't indicate a long wait. That's because I drank it quickly and there was a person circulating refilling coffee for customers. The omelette had a bit of spiciness to it from the Spanish sauce and the green chili that I didn't need to ask for Cholula or Tapatio. Again my coffee was refilled. Since there are a number of places for pity stops on the way home, this was fine. Total cost with tax--$13.99--a normal breakfast price and good value for the meal. I was very happy with all the food here! We tried the pork chop and meatloaf dinners. Both come with a side of either garlic bread or corn bread. The garlic bread is like texas toast. It is on a thicker slice of bread that was soft and chewy. The cornbread is a smooth (rather than crunchy) texture and comes with butter. The pork chops (two pieces) were seasoned and juicy. It comes with mixed veggies and mash potatoes (it's a good mash) with a white gravy. The yummy meatloaf (two slices) comes with mixed veggies and mash potatoes, all with brown gravy. I am sure you can ask for alterations if you wanted. It is part of an outdoor mall so there is lots of parking. And it might be a little confusing, but it shares the same standalone building with another restaurant, so keep going around the building, it is there! Came here twice by an app's recommendation. First time was just one other person and myself and service was prompt, polite, and fun. It was very busy that day. Food was pretty good. Second time I came was with four other adults, and we had two children with us. I was not impressed. It wasn't as busy, but service didn't seem quite as attentive. My wife and I wanted our side replaced with other things. I was replacing toast with a fruit bowl. I didn't know the fruit bowl would be mostly cantaloupe which I don't like. That was my blunder, I should have asked. My skillet's eggs were bland but the rest of the skillet was great. My wife was substituting tortillas with fries. Both the toast and tortillas were subbed with fruit bowls. At first we thought the extra fruit bowl was just a nice gesture, but when we asked if we could get the fries we asked for, we were told she didn't put the fries on the order because it would be really big. So quite literally our order was changed for us without our approval or input. My wife's re-fried beans were way too salty. She also told me she was supposed to get breakfast potatoes with her plate, but there were fries on her plate instead? It's all so very confusing. If we get that server again, I'll ask for a new one or leave. The food isn't good enough to deal with service like that. Have eaten here a couple dozen times and I have always felt well served and the weekday breakfast is a winner. Recently a neighbor who would eat in shop 2-3 times a week had surgery and after inquiring they made sure I could pick up her senior orders for her to pay in cash. Yet another Breakfast Day out. Sigh, I did it because I am collecting way too many bookmarks. Yeah, right. Sammy's is a cute, bright, spankin' clean, newish café right along historic Route 66. They have an extensive breakfast/lunch/dinner menu that competes with Denny's and Coco's in my humble opinion. Our first meal impression was just OK. Not enough to keep us coming back, but not so awful that we wouldn't try it again. Mr. B's Breakfast enchilada was a belly flop. It was filled with ground beef and eggs and pico de gallo, topped with an enchilada sauce and cheese, with beans and potatoes for sides. The meat was unflavored and uninspired. Disguising it as an enchilada proved nothing. It is one of a substantial list of Mexican entrees on their menu but poorly represents this area where more authentic ethnic food offerings can be found on every corner. Too bad. My dish was better. A huge breakfast that included two strips of crispy bacon (crazy good tasting but not smoked), two link sausage (also good flavor), and a scramble that had ham, cheese, real mushrooms, onion (next time it needs to be cooked longer) added in. The country potatoes were sliced thinly but cooked nicely. I substituted pancakes for the toast/biscuit. While small, especially after having just visited Red Hill Coffee Shop where the pancakes are the size of hub caps, these two were light and tender. The flavor could have been greater, possibly because I was disappointed they came topped with margarine, but glad I tried them. Overall, our experience justified why I would stick with their more Americanized dishes (turkey, meatloaf, pot pie, pot roast, soups and sandwiches). For those over 55, and for kids too, they had discounted lists of entrees that seemed interesting. Sometimes, simple, plain food has its appeal. read more

We noticed this restaurant a couple weeks ago when driving east on foothill, it's kind of hidden so we decided to stop. I'm so happy we did. They are like the diners that aren't around anymore, they offer a great variety of food options. I love turkey dinner and was happy it was on their menu, It was delicious and the portion was very generous, I was happy to have leftovers. Their prices are very reasonable and offer daily specials. We have since returned and again our food and service was excellent. We live about 20 minutes away and the drive was well worth it. It's nice to find a restaurant with good home style meals. read more
