Stopped by this evening on my way thru Teaneck. Heard great things about the place. Store was very quiet for a Sunday night. Ordered 2 New York Special (regular slices) and one "Grandma" slice. Had to wait (like others have stated here) a good 10-15 minutes for 3 slices to come out off the oven. All this while they had like 3 separate guys working the counter! Was starving, so I hoped they would be good. WRONG. I have never eaten such horrible, unpleasant, vile kosher pizza in ages. It didn't even look good. Unflavorful, tasted like raw cheese on cardboard. No flavor, no seasoning, no effort put into it. The grandma slice was vile as well. My wife ended up throwing out half of it. Only ate the other half because she was starving! All this drek after waiting a good 13-15 minutes for these slices! Expensive prices for garbage food. I highly suggest anyone looking for good kosher pizza in the Teaneck area AVOID SAMMY'S if possible. While the store may look "nice", the food is NOT! read more

I went today with my son and ordered 3 slices of pizza and a French fries at 12pm. We got the slices and ate...went back for my fries every 4 minutes...30 min later my son's done and I went up and said please, 30 min to make fries? I need to go. The woman behind the counter was soooo rude (as usual) and I said please just credit my card, I must leave to get my daughter from a bday party. She tells me be more patient. I said kindly again as always, I was patient for 37 minutes from the time I ordered but I really have to go, please just credit my cc and held out my card. She said NO and walked away!!!! I left. Literally thieves. Didn't give me my fries or credit for them. I had the class to walk away from a psycho situation like that because it wasn't about the few dollars. It was the principle that I even asked for the credit. Not only insane rude but literally stealing from me and I go there allll the time!! She's always screaming or cursing in front people and kids but this was crazy. I don't know how the owner keeps this woman running his store. He should be embarrassed and if I took the time to write this it's because I was beyond disgusted by her behavior and the store being thieves by taking $, not giving food and refusing to credit me. There is basically a 100% chance your meal will come out wrong. Ive been a handful of times because I dine at a local kosher (dairy) place and every single time the order is messed up. I'm sorry but its just deplorable and totally unacceptable level of service, insanely over prices, terribly run and oh so frustrating. Here's the deal, if you pay the local rabbi for a kosher certification then they will not issue another one to a competing business. This means you have the right to run a horrible restaurant without the threat of competition. Please know I have 0 personal desire to speak ill of this restaurant. It's just horribly run. read more

I am not kosher but whenever I'm in the area this is my preferred fast fresh food in this area. The falafel is exceptional and the salads are fresh reach time that I have come. The personal pizza is really large enough for two people and the crust is very unique, a cross between a Sicilian and neopolitan dough. Also with 2 little kids and a wife the total bill was $45 dollars for 4 sit down meals and drinks and the restaurant is sit down self serve. The bottom line is the food is tasty fresh, delicious and on a families budget. Many of the reviews were malicious and simply not true. read more

i usually have only good experiences here, the food is good and fairly priced for being kosher. however Sunday morning i stopped by to have breakfast and ordered an iced latte along with my food. I noticed right away the the milk in my latte was curdled and has an off tase, i sent my boyfriend to return the drink for another less spoiled one. immediately he was turned away and told thats not possible since the milk was from a new shipment. I then went back to go myself and was ignored by the manager. I had then went to another staff member who didn't know what to do since i had already approached the manager. Best salad bar! Ok so the place definitely needs an update on the decor, especially in the pizza section. They also could use to expand as there seems to not be enough room especially at lunch time. The food is very good however and there seems to be something for everyone. read more

Health department will be alerted after this morning's witnessing of the line-cook drop the "shmear" spatula and look around the room to see if anybody saw, then wipe it off on his apron and put it back on the counter to use on the next bagel. But what was even more disturbing was the cashiers response and lack of management in the restaurant at the time. No one cared that happened--no sign of apology or acknowledgement that what I saw was wrong and disgusting, and no reprimanding of the employee. If this guy did this today, you know he doesn't care about your health and what you are eating. I guarantee if you eat from the kitchen area of the Sammy's pizza side of the restaurant you can not be certain of the cleanliness of your food. read more

My adult kids prefer Sammy's Bagels to the many options in the area. That said why not more stars? The reason is a simple one, service. My initial draft of this review was a little less generous then the one I'm going to post but they have a great product, poor store layout and seemingly constant logistical issues with cash registers and the service is a bit of a downer first thing in the morning. Sammy's without a doubt has the best bagels in the ny/nj area. I have tried numerous bagel places in the city as well as nj and nothing can beat the fluffy goodness of Sammy's bagels. They are special :) read more

Sammy's café was an overall bad experience. The food was exceptional but they taped my receipt to my pizza. The salad bar was poorly planned, as I had to fill out a massive form to order my salad, it felt like I was doing the SATs. I enjoyed the food. But not the experience. read more

My first time here because a colleague keeps Kosher ... The food was good, I enjoyed the plating of my breakfast. Bagels are definitely fresh ... Now the service, not so Kosher. Unreliable I had a large order, 15 dozen bagels for a staff breakfast for 200 people. I had placed the order 5 days in advance and confirmed the name of the person who tool the order and had him read it back. The reason I did this was that my experience in the past with orders had been at best, mediocre. I tried calling multiple times the day before to confirm the order, nobody picked up the phone. The order was for pick up at 7:15am. I stopped by the store at 6:15am that morning to ensure they had the order and were working on it. They had no record of the order and were unable to fill the order. I immediately called Teaneck Hot Bagels who were happy to fill the order on short notice. read more

Terrible ,terrible place .The owner lets the staff rule the roost .I agree with the last two reviews .Things seemed to be getting better so I held back on my review. But the last few times,Iwas here it seems to have gotten worse.4 sections in the store .No clarity as to where to go .Ask a question you get a hostile answer.No direction .Most of the employees here seem to be in a fog.No passion for their work .No sense of team . Bagels are by far the best around but the staff is extremely rude ,loud and obnoxious.Especially the dark haired guy .He acts like he is doing you a favor. Pizza is decent .Coffee is awful tastes burnt like mud . Slow and not prepared. Pizza store is not well run and unorganized. They know they are the only kosher pizza shop in town and act like it. It's sad that the customer is not treated like a customer. A 2 hour wait for a pie of pizza is never acceptable. It would be nice if the owner cared enough about there business to be present. Get it together. read more

Ordered from Sammy's website (ordersammysnj.com- which needs a LOT of work, doesn't include all menu items, has numerous spelling errors- some comical "omlat", "fata" cheese) for pickup, as I have many times. Received confirmation email and text. My husband went to pick up order at appointed time, and was told by store manager that Sammy's never received order, despite the fact that he showed the manager the emails and texts and that the credit card had been charged already. Manager said the store didn't charge the card, and the only way we could get the food we ordered would be if we ordered in the store and got charged again. My husband said that would be cheating him, and he didn't want to do that- and the manager said "well if you don't like it, you can call the police". She proceeded to scream at him and even cursed- saying "so you lose $100, so what- what's $100?" "I'm going to teach you some respect!". Some employees did find the order and tried to help but were afraid of their boss- who is clearly verbally abusive- and said that they would lose their jobs if she knew they were helping. My husband said that as he walked out- after finally sort of getting some of the food we ordered despite protests from the manager- the same thing was happening to the next customer in line behind him. Zero stars. Average food - Remarkably Dishonest Was there late Saturday night last summer with wife and friends. Ordered a salad and a slice. Got my bill and paid it and noticed afterwards that it included French Fries. Went back to the counter to say that we did not order fries. Was told 'yes you did'. My wife had a salad - I wanted a slice = we did not want fries. Counterman still insisted we ordered it (we hadn't gotten it). When I insisted he take it off the bill he refunded my money without the tax. When I noticed and asked why he hadn't refunded the full amount, he replied 'because you ordered the fries'. It wasn't a lot of money, but it's not fun to be called a liar by your pizza man, and then robbed (even a little) as part of the "lesson". Tonight, my daughter brought back a take out slice for me. It was tiny - which she didn't see since it was handed to her in a brown paper bag. Nice to know that Sammy's is still ripping off their customers. Thanks, Sammy's, for inspiring me to start a Yelp* account :) Go to EJ's across the street. Better pizza, better prices, or Poppy's around the corner (who's famous for incredibly large pizzas, to stay or go.). I would give this place a minus if it were possible. When the place is empty, you have to wait. There is one person who mans the cash register and gets the food. Nevertheless, even when there is someone else helping to serve, you have to wait. This morning they messed up the order. It happens. After I had waited on the phone for 10:54 ( ten minutes and 54 seconds), I figured it would be more efficient to go back to the store ( I live nearby). I had to wait as the line grew and grew and the one person who had helped me earlier did not really know how to rectify the error. He called over a manager who said the food would have to go in the garbage b/c it could not be returned. I told them I wanted a refund b/c I was so disgusted with the service, I had lost my appetite. No apology. No -since the food is going in the garbage, take it any way for your trouble. I was just warned that next time they would issue me a credit and not refund my money. THEY made a clerical error on the receipt. I was fuming and I will NEVER go back there for anyting. Teaneck Bagels on Teaneck Road is the antithesis of this place. I would only go back there and NEVER go to Sammy's for anything. With all the choices in Teaneck, who needs the aggravation. read more

I like that it's kosher so all their pizzas are vegetarian. Also, zero stars is not an option...so there's my one star. I can only review this place as a pizzeria since that is all I've had here (and salad). The pizza is thick, doughy, lacking in essential Italian spices, and overpriced to boot. The salads are mediocre at best. Stay far away from here if it's even slightly busy because they are slow at processing your order and even slower to give your food. They also tend to get something wrong; either the order or what they charge you - so pay attention to both. Upon my last visit I was overcharged on an item and when I brought it to the cashier's attention she supposedly voided the item to recharge the right price. When I saw my bank statements several days later I realized it was never voided and she ended up charging me twice . I've eaten here a few times as a last minute resort in the area, but will not be patronizing this place again. Subpar food, slow inaccurate service, careless processing. read more

(pasta may come partially raw, but pizza and salads are good). what a shame. prices are high but i'd be willing to pay that if i actually got decent service. but service is beyond awful. but they have good food. so I ordered for a company lunch for an office down the block. food comes 75 minutes late and they say "we didn't have someone who can drive" and when I asked why someone didn't call to let us know, maybe I would have had someone come pick it up, they said they were looking for someone to drive. for over an hour??? for a 3 minute drive??? completely not excusable. if this place wants to stay in business, they seriously need to work on their customer service. i'll be going to EJs from now on read more

If there were not so many kosher people desperate for a salad this place would have been closed long ago. The absentee owner lets this place run out of control. I ordered bagels that were never made, told to come back late in the day for the order, and when I came back there was no order. Refused to take a phone order. Instead, had to wait 45 minutes in the restaurant for an order of two pizzas, much of it in a queue of unhappy customers. After I got home discovered a plain pizza was 11 dollars (fine), but a Mushroom pizza was $21! $10 for a topping? Definitely not okay in my book. The pizza was okay and certainly worth 10 or $12. Great bagels but very dismissive staff. Stood on line and watched 2 older gentlemen serve themselves babes. When I questioned staff member and manager, I was told they were members of the owners family. Not trained employees. Employees wore gloves. These men did not. Who knows if their hands were clean. Handling utensils and bagels. I have yet to receive a call back from the owner and don't expect it at this point. Majorly unsanitary and I didn't appreciate the response or lack of. Sammy's has the best bagels and other cuisine that I have tasted in NJ. The ONLY AND BIG BUT IS THAT THEIR FEMALE CUSTOMER SERVICE / STAFF IS BEYOND RUDE. Just today I went to get a bagels, I great the lady with short curled blond hair with a pleasant hello and asked if they have sesame bagels. She replied yes and and asked what i want on them. I clearly stated one with tune toasted , one with tuna, tomatoe, and american cheese, she went to grab them. Came back and said no sesame, I said I will take one everything and one plain. The plain bagel with just tune toasted and the everything bagel with tuna tomatoes and American cheese toasted. She left to prepare them and in less then 15 seconds asks me what I want on the everything bagel. Before I answered her I asked if she had toasted the bagels, her reaction was to slam the fridge door and walk away with a rude grin on her face. She didnot toasted and had to grab new bagels. After the new ones came out of the toaster I had one again reminded her that the plain bagel is just with tuna and the everything bagel is with tuna tomatoes and American cheese and yet again she walked away with a rude grin . I picked up my order made it back to work and found my everything bagel with NO TOMATOES. I really don't know how hard it is to smile at your customers that are extremely polite and patient when they have to repeat their orders 2 plus times, IF YOU CANt REMEMBER THE ORDER WRITE IT DOWN , very simple. This is one of the many times that my and my colleagues order was prepared wrong. So unfortunate that such a great place has such unpleasant workers! The food is amazing and deserves 5 stars but the service is just upsetting and horrible in the bagel section hence the 3 star review. read more
