I've been here 2 Fridays in a row! This place is so chill and relaxing but can get frustrating if you're the type to be in a rush. It seems like they are understaffed with some but not all inexperienced waitresses, so Fridays are hectic and don't expect great service. Food surprised me here as the Jalapeno Burger tasted like a gourmet burger bursting with crunchy spicy jalapenos on top of a perfectly cooked burger. Crawfish the first time was pretty spicy and topped with a bunch of seasoning, kind of salty at the end of the night but flavor was there and their crawfish was SUPER clean and that crawfish meat was hella juicy and sweet! They were a good size too. Right now the price is $5.99/lb. The second time I came to eat crawfish it wasn't as spicy but still good and hot. I don't recommend the mango habenero wings and the garlic parmesan wings were only ok. Prices are pretty good here. This place is a kind of place where you can kickback and catch up with a couple of friends over beer. So stay thirsty my friends when you come here ;) P.S. I have been here several times and service was already great. Food here are pretty good as well. On my recent visit, I had the cape shark bite. It was really good with the sauce. The mix drinks here might be the bad part. I ordered a drink mixed with coconut rum but I can only taste the juice part. There are several games here that you can play here which will be good for parties. It might not be a great place to go but it's still a cool place to hang out with friends sometimes. read more

This place is simply awesome! The music they play is from the 90s takes you back to the good ole days. Staff is phenomenal and they really like to socialize with you. Ya'lllllllllllllllllllll, it's been 3 days and I'm STILL stuck on the $95 I dropped for this mess!!! From Paying $17.50 for chicken that was minuscule, fries that were dry, and a bagged salad to ordering 3 pounds of crawfish and being met with a horned centipede- real story- it was a MESS. Tonight was the first time I visited this place and it will definitely be the last time. I understand why the place was soo empty, I stood at the bar for approximately 10 minutes and at no point did anyone greet me let alone take my order. I was in the restaurant for around 30 minutes and at no point did any employee ask if I had been helped come to take my order or even talk to me in any way. Yo sams boat was chill. My wife and I stayed there for two or three hours while on vacation from Dallas. They had great sides and weren't rushy. Plenty of ball games on the tvs and they're just about on every wall. Server kept bringing the pitcher and the total was reasonable. We love having Sam's Boat near us. It's a great restaurant/bar with many options to choose from. It's extremely casual and has plenty indoor and outdoor seating available. They have tv's all around for your sports watching. The food is always good. I particularly like the house salads with fried onions on top. Great place! read more

If half stars were a thing, I'd give it the extra half star. Of 7 people, 3 seemed to be the average of what everyone rated Sam's Boat. We came in for super late night dinner after playing sand volleyball. I won't comment on service because late night restaurants don't care to give service and I honestly wasn't even expecting it. Crab queso was really good served with fried flour chips instead of corn. None of really tasted the crab in it but the cheese was still delicious. I'd probably just get the regular queso next time if there is a next time. The shark bites were just alright. I'm not sure what I expected when I ordered shark but wasn't anymore special than little fried fish nuggets. When I think of fried foods, I expect a really crunch and hard shell before getting to the middle but it was already soggy when it hit the table. My friends seemed to have a little better luck with their food than I did. Their happy hour seems worth so maybe I'll come check that out in the future. read more

5/19/18 - updating my review because for the past several months of coming here, service has deteriorated immensely. It looks like they got an entire new crew and management and nobody gives a sh*t about their customers. For example, service is ridiculously slow, food orders ALWAYS come out wrong and their drinks are terrible (terrible overly frothy beer pours / watered down mix drinks) Today (5/19/18) they just took their sh*tty service to a whole new level. Waited 30 minutes for menus. When I finally got it, the girl says "I'll be right back" and never came back. Stopped a food runner and asked him to get our waiter and he goes all around the restaurant looking for her. Spots her, yet she doesn't come to help. Eventually, this food runner stops the manager (tall, white guy) and asks "hey who is working this section?" And with full confidence, he says "I have no idea." Then points to the girl at the outside bar and said "hey you have this section now." Appalled, my husband and I decided to just leave. On our way out, my husband stops this manager and tells him how terrible their service was and did used the "sh*tty" word as reference. Not only was this manager not apologetic, but talked back to my husband and told us to never come back. This place is a joke. After these last few months and the service we got today, we will never return to a Sam's boat establishment ever again. read more

Sam's Boat is a go to for us, usually on lazy Saturdays and Sundays with nice weather. The highlight of this bar for me is happy hour Ziegenbock pitchers. I have visited this restaurant many times and I have really mixed reviews about it. If your looking to throw down some brews and a little finger food along the way this place isn't that bad. However, I wouldn't recommend it if you were hungry for something fresh and tasty. The seafood is not fresh especially the oysters! They had a really sour taste and smelled awful. The red beans and rice is decent and you usually can never go wrong with wings and fries here. During crawfish season it is a hit or miss but most of the time a miss. I understand the concept of the restaurant's atmosphere is suppose to be a "boat" however it has been this way for years and they can do a little revamping of the place. The mix cocktails are full of sugar and watered down therefore I would just stick to beers or traditional cocktails. They do have good happy hour prices and I would take advantage of that. read more

Something like an OG of sorts -- Sam's Boat is a legend when it comes to Houston patio bars. I've been coming here what feels like my entire life. Nothing has really changed over the years: typical laid back crowd, (somewhat) kid friendly, and cheap beer pitchers. As newer (nicer) patio bars have popped up in the city, Sam's Boat has lost a bit of its appeal. Regardless, I still stop by a few times a year. I ordered the crab meal and it was overly salted! Very nasty. Also I did go on a night that the game was on and me and my friend sat at the bar to eat. Literally everyone had there masks off and was so close to us! Literally we had to tell a drunk man to back up because he back up into my friend. Then started talking and touching us on our shoulders as if we didn't tell him to move in the first place. I def think they should have a mask mandate if they are not eating or drinking near the bar. My experience At the Richmond location was horrible. I was there for an hour was only Checked on twice while I was sitting out on the patio area. The waitress went inside never came back to check on me, as I looked around multiple times trying to get someone attention just so I could pay. I even signaled the waitress at the bar and she looked away. So I called the restaurant a guy answered the phone. I stayed I needed my waitress so I could check out and that I had been sitting too long. He asked where I was sitting o stated the patio area behind the bar. He rudely stated he has about 40 ppl outside I asked if he could send the waitress out he hung up on me. An apology would have been nice. First off, and most importantly, best crawfish in Houston for several years running!!! I asked for extra spicy, and I got it. Only three dead mudbugs out of three pounds, which is pretty darn good. Tasted perfect, served good and hot. At first, I wasn't crazy about the plastic tub they were served in, but when the last crawfish I ate was almost as hot as the first, I realized the wisdom of serving them this way. The oysters my friend and I had for an appetizer were also very good. My friend loved his fish tacos. He let me have a taste, and I found them to be good, but not great. However, I've never had a fish taco in a restaurant other than Berry Hill that I considered to be great, so that's probably just me. The giant deck itself is a huge draw, especially on these beautiful summer days. The deck is built around a giant tree on one side, so finding shade is rarely a problem. Five stars for food, five stars for ambience, and one lost star for service. The food came out fast and tables were clean and all that, but I'm used to friendlier service at establishments like this. We were able to coax a smile and some conversation out of our waitress, but we had to work for it. She should be the one trying to make us smile. read more

I asked to have the game turned back on and was rejected by the manager. Told me to sit somewhere else. Seriously??? Running a currently bill of $90 and you want me to move? in the late 90's and early 2000's this place was IT. The Richmond strip was the nightlife hot spot and Sam's Boat and Sam's place (they were to separate places) were insanely busy and were the meat market hot spot of the city. I can't even begin to describe how busy this place would get. If the weather was nice on a Sunday, the place would be packed from noon until 1 am. There would be a sea of cars begging to pay to park. It was insane. Why do I mention this? Because this place never learned to treat their customers well. They would charge a cover for a cover band, charge for parking, heck, they didn't treat their employees well either from what I used to hear. They didn't have to. They were an IT spot. Now that Richmond is all but dead, they haven't really changed their ways. I still go there from time to time mostly to meet with people and they still have the same attitude they had before. Parking is still very scary although now days you can find it. Bartenders (many of which look like former strippers who got laid off when the place next door changed formats) still have an attitude, and the bands, well they just suck. The only reason I give them 2 stars is because the ONLY good thing about this place is the fajitas that the taco guy makes over the wood grill. I came here with girl friend, brother, and 3 other friends today, we have been coming here for awhile to eat and drink and normally love the place. Today was decently busy, our waitress was pretty slow but we kept in mind it was busy. The food this time was just thrown together and they forgot to bring my girlfriends charro beans. She waited 30 minutes after we finished our food to come check on us. We got our checks and she had added gratuity to all of our checks. My girlfriend has worked the service industry for the past 8 years of her life and most restaurants only add gratuity to tables with 8 more. We would have talked to a manager but we were already running late to other obligations. Excellent quality oysters (avg price- 16 per dozen) but the crawfish was way, way overseasoned with salt- it was painful. Yessss everything was good as expected and nice portions! Hubby had the Sampler with seafood, wings, and the margarita on the rocks. I had the boiled shrimp with corn and potatoes and the bahama mamas drink. We both had two rounds of drinks. All the seafood and meat had good flavor! We manage to have enough to share all the foods. Would literally give 0 stars! I never write yelp reviews but decided to this time because this is the fourth time and obviously bringing issues discreetly to management does not have an impact. Even after so many disappointments at this location (which is such a diamond location ONLY because of the piece of real-estate it sits on with its amazing scenery they obviously take for granted) I knew it was a perfect place to take some out of town guests that just came in for weekend for a peaceful, relaxing, fun dinner on the lake. I was wrong! We walk in, only to be greeted by a standing sign saying "Sit Yourself" instead of an employee and I know if you do not have an employee to do so, as a manager at Sams Boat you are expected to greet your customers at the very least. So? We went ahead and did as the sign told us and proceeded to the patio deck that overlooks the lake and sunset. It was actually strange due to the fact it was a Friday at 5pm and literally there was only one other table on other side of patio that obviously had a horrible experience themselves due to the husband opening door being extremely upset and yelling something which lead to a waiter running out few min later with his card, without a manager insight to see what the issue was. So, we continued to sit and wait for any kind of employee at this time to even acknowledge us. Fifteen minutes later, I looked at my out of town guest and said " I'm sorry, and apologize, but it looks as if this was a bad decision and a horrible franchise of what Sams Boat originally was, so I'm not going to bother going to track someone down because I am sure our entire experience would be this way considering how it's been the second we walked through the door, but I have another place that's close and has an outdoor patio and knew the service would be great, they agreed." We proceeded to get up, walk fully across the deck patio to the doors to enter the restaurant went through the restaurant and out the front door and still not one employee in sight, not even a bartender behind the bar which is not good in the eyes of T.A.B.C having open establishment to public with unattended alcohol but of course management would not know because they were no where in sight. Sams Boat use to be a known establishment that no matter what day of the week it was after a long day at work.. that was where you could go with co workers after for the most relaxing happy hour ever and great food and service. The second you would walk in a Sams Boat you were greeted by an employee either behind the bar, walking by or across the room, and you always saw the managers smiling, laughing, and interacting with customers and hands on helping out all over the place down to picking trash up off the patio it didn't matter. This location will not last much longer and could of been something amazing, but they also are ruining the Sams Boat name and image. I Would NOT recommend this location honestly, instead of being relaxed over looking the lake, your going to have an absolutely stressful experience and a disappointment in the quality of food. It's honestly upsetting and wish that the original owners would come back in to their franchised store and retrain staff and management because you have a lot of loyal customers in Houston for decades now that want this to be a real Sams Boat and have the same experience as every other location just closer to home now. read more
