Went for an 8 PM Thursday dinner. The dining area was surprisingly empty, with a handful of to go orders while we were there. Our wait staff used her extra time to answer questions we had about the menu and a few dishes, and just be a very kind and helpful person. We ordered the fried pickles and shrimp étouffée appetizers, followed by a hamburger with sweet potato fries and 2 fish/6 shrimp with fries. Everything came out in very generous quantities and perfect temperatures. The fried pickles represented in a light batter that we very much enjoyed. The burger came to the table a perfect medium-rare as ordered. The fish and shrimp were perfect battered, respectively, in a cornmeal and crispy mix. Drinks were refilled as they approached empty status. I really believe this is a gem of a local restaurant and worth a try next time you are in the area. read more

We really enjoyed our food. The fried shrimp were the star of the show, but everything we had was good. Generous portions as well. We will definitely be back. Quick note: At least when we went, all the other customers were a bit older, so don't let the lack of recent reviews or pictures give you any concern. So we were famished and chomped and on some onion rings while perusing the menu. Those onion rings were perfectly fried and delicious; the only disappointment was that we wanted more but it was only one serving LOL. For entree I ordered the country hamburger with onions and Mr. Picky chose 12 fried shrimp. I asked what "corn nuggets" were and we ordered those as an upgrade side. I overheard the waitress describing the shrimo etouffe and decided to sneak a cup into our lunch order. That actually might have been my favorite part of the meal. I'm not sure it's strictly etouffe as most people expect it, but this was better, sort of a shrimp bisque version. I'd come back and order an entire bowl of that next time. Definite winner. I have to mention that the floor staff was very accommodating and helpful, they were great. Missing is some background theme music to match the food as I wasn't a huge fan of what the chef or whomever chose for playing in the background. They don't have any homemade desserts, and we didn't love what we tried. But overall, it wasn't bad and I'll return for a much bigger bowl of that shrimp etouffe. read more

This restaurant has always been a local go-to for seafood, even after moving away from the area. No longer. Although the service was exceptional considering there was only one server for both rooms, the food caused me to have food poisoning which dehydrated me and caused a visit to Urgent Care. My husband sampled my oysters and one of my shrimp. He agreed with me that the oysters were tasteless and the shrimp were below their usual standard. My husband did not order the coleslaw as he had gumbo, I ordered coleslaw. He did not get sick. I did not make it home before the first issue hit me so thank God for Bucces's! read more

My husband and I stopped in here because he was craving a steak and we had read a bunch of good reviews. We started with the stuffed jalapeños. We asked our server what they were stuffed with and his response was "I'm not sure" and the menu had no other details. Our second surprise was a restaurant that actually has the word STEAK in the name had only THREE steak options. That's it. The whole steak selection...three items. We went ahead and ordered dinner. The jalapeños came out and they were stuffed with......cheddar cheese. That's it. Very disappointing. We were so hungry and there is no bread or munchie food at all, my husband went up and asked for some garlic bread for the table. We were asked how many pieces? Odd question, but we got 4 pieces. While we waited and waited.....and then our dinner arrived....with 4 pieces of thick white Texas bread with garlic butter on it. Not what we expected and did not want with our dinner. My po-boy came out completely naked. Not one thing on it but the shrimp. Then I had to chase down the waiter for tartar sauce. I also don't want to chop up my own veggies to dress my sandwich. My husbands steak was cooked perfectly. But that was the only thing right with it. It was sooooo salty and there was some other spice on it that ruined the whole steak. The fries and okra were good but hard to mess those up. The gumbo was not a repeat either. It was full of red bell peppers and the roux much too light for my tasting. I like a heavier roux. Great customer service ! Came in around 8pm on a weekday and it was very quiet and chill inside the restaurant. The shrimp gumbo was delicious but the chicken gumbo tasted a little odd. This place did not live up to the hype. Food was very, very bland and lacked flavor. Calamari had an off taste and was paired with marinara sauce which was odd in my opinion. 2+ years ago, I would've given a higher rating. It's great that you can usually get a seat quickly and the staff has always been great. And most of the food is pretty good. However, I will say that the past few times we've gone, the grilled fish has been over cooked. Fish should be moist and flaky; not like overcooked chicken. I'm hopeful they will retrain the grill cook. If so, we'll start being regulars again. read more

Fried shrimp and fried catfish were both very good. Baked potato tasted good but was not very hot rather slightly warm. Salad is plain, mostly just chopped lettuce with a few strands of shredded carrots, one cherry tomato and no croutons. No bread or crackers is offered with the meal where most seafood restaurants will serve a hush puppy or two with the meal. The service was very friendly and attentive. I will go again because the seafood was very good but will probably opt for the coleslaw rather than the salad. read more

My wife and I took a friend to dinner last night and as we thought about places to go I have always been curious about a spot near another place we enjoy. So last night we decided we'd check out Sam's Seafood & Steak. Prices looked reasonable and the reviews seemed very good so we gave it a shot. We arrived at 7pm and for a Friday night we expected a crowd as there was one. It wasn't a flag to ditch and go elsewhere bc the staff was polite and seating as quickly as they could. Service as attentive and courteous but the immediate issue was the heat. The walk space as you enter is not very big and as you open the door all the warm air enters that area and throughout the restaurant. It was hot, I don't mean warm, but hot inside. I felt like I was eating in my garage. At one point I even leaned over and said to my wife, "this is what it feels like to eat in a sauna." I considered leaving but again the staff was nice and didn't want to give up; they placed a fan beside the table next to us and felt brief moments of relief. The restaurant is nice and the staff was great, our server was attentive and accommodating. Where my gripe comes in was w the food and the inside temp of the restaurant. I've already mentioned the temperature; now let me tell you about the food. The waiter said the popular food entree was the Blackened Red Fish so I went w that. Sounded delicious and right up my alley. Blacked Red Fish Dirty Rice Hush Puppies Baked Potato The fish wasn't blackened. In fact it wasn't really seasoned. The overall flavor of everything was bland and unseasoned. The dirty rice was not dirty rice, it was over cooked and burned. We've been twice now and it's a great little "hole in the wall" that deserves your attention... First - the service is stellar. The staff have been extremely friendly and engaging on each visit, promptly refilling drinks and checking in, and overall VERY attentive! Second - The food! The steak I ordered did not disappoint. The veggies were full of flavor and the crab balls were divine. Icing on the cake...the kids meals were substantial! I don't know about you, but for me - three growing boys is always a challenge when eating out. Either they are left feeling less than fulfilled for an insanely expensive price, or they get too much from an adult meal and are left with a "take-home" that consumes unnecessary space in the fridge. From the popcorn shrimp, to the catfish, to the burgers, my kids left here feeling full and without complaints. WIN! For the prices paid - it was certainly worth it! I recommend giving Sam's a try if you haven't already. It's neatly tucked away on Grant Rd. in the Cypress/Tomball area (the corner spot of a small strip plaza & next to a fitness center) and visible from the main street. Parking seems to be okay (unless you go early - in which you might fight with the traffic from the fitness center next door) and the seating is ample inside. We've been coming to Sam's Seafood & Steak for over 5+ years. It's a quiet restaurant located at the corner of a strip mall, with plenty of parking. The ambience isn't anything special. Usually, it's not too long of a wait (if any), so it's a good place for a quick meal. Prices are reasonable. Over these years, it's been good, bad, great, awful, and in-between. Three of us ate here tonight, with the following results. Service - Not so great. You're not that busy, so please be attentive. If we wave at you, we're trying to get your attention. Garlic Cheese Curds - We had these for an appetizer. They're really not very good. They seem to be an odd fit with other menu items, so I guess we should have considered that before ordering. Shrimp Po' Boy - Please take off the tails. They ruin the experience. If they're "supposed to come that way", as I was told, then I won't order this here again. I only come here for the Po' Boys however... Fried Shrimp plate - The shrimp were nice, everything else was "meh". Came with fries, and coleslaw as a side. Chicken Fried Chicken - This dish tasted odd; the chicken was also overcooked. Overall, this visit wasn't the meal we were hoping for. We may come back and try again sometime in the future, but it probably won't be any time soon. read more

Yesterday, Fried Shrimp dish with fries and wilt lettuce salad with one cherry tomato. The shrimp was half the size since I've eaten here- two years ago. That's the only dish of 15 shrimp I eat at this restaurant and I know they went from jumbo to a couple of jumbo, a couple of large, about four medium and the rest were small size . Same price 25.99 Not fair, that the owner gets to save money and not the customer. Please indicate on menu card the shrimp size the client should expect, thats what menus are for, so we can decide if we want to pay 25.99 for 15 medium shrimp. read more
