Great for happy hour! In addition to affordable Kirin, they also have several rolls (3-4$) and apps on special. Come before 7pm to take advantage of happy hour prices, and try the eel! It can get crowded sometimes later in the evening but if you show up early you're golden. read more

The service(waiter, host) was great. Food was below average. My bf ordered happy hour spicy tuna. Tuna wasn't fresh at all. I ordered Eel bowl. It was so slimy and didn't taste good at all. Miso soup was so watery. Fishbone down the road serves 10 X better sushi. Sushi from grocery store is much better than their sushi. Sorry but I was very disappointed how low quality their sushi was. Also the place is very outdated and doesn't look very clean. It's very dark inside so it's hard for people to see how fresh the fish is. $$ for the quality of food. Was not sure what to expect when I walk in, but I was greeted by friendly staff who made me feel very welcomed. There were plenty of options from the menu to choose from. I had the Basic sashimi plate (10 piece) and a seaweed salad. Salad was very fresh. The sashimi plate included Tuna, shrimp, salmon and white tuna. Every piece was tender melt in your mouth sushi. Whenever I venture into Lake Mary, this is my go-to lunch spot. Samurai Sushi has phenomenal bento box lunch specials - and it's super fast, even when packed for the lunch rush. I always request Chad as my server because he is knowledgeable, provides top notch service, and is also just a really nice human. I tend to base my initial judgement of sushi restaurants on their ginger dressing, and I honestly have yet to find a better ginger dressing than the one at Samurai. I don't know what it is that makes it so good, but it's almost a creamy dressing with the tangy ginger flavor I love. Seriously, this stuff is amazing. They also make their own white sauce that is insanely good. It's almost a little sweet (in a good way). I realize the bulk of my review is on their dressing/sauces - but seriously, they're that good. Their miso soup never disappoints, and their sushi is fresh and delicious. The restaurant is always super clean, and I leave with a happy tummy. So I award 5 well-deserved stars to my favorite sushi spot. My only complaint is that it's 25 minutes from downtown :( read more

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all. Parking is not a problem plenty of that. I was going to do take out, which is what I should have done. Service was horrible, she could not get our order right, she did not check on our table, she did not get us utensils to eat with. Service was bad all around. The sushi was not bad very tasty. What makes Samurai our go to place is the service and atmosphere. The owners and staff are personable and always friendly. Plus, it's some of the best priced sushi in the area. Happy Hour (5-7pm on weekdays) is when you get the best deals. They also have some great drink choices and dessert. My favorite is the red bean ice cream. read more

Wow! Not only is the food extremely fresh tasting and well priced, the waitstaff is phenomenal. I just got takeout and walked out with the best experience. I'm newly gluten free and still learning what has gluten etc. the gentleman at the front desk was so patient, kind, and helpful! He explained which things had gluten which did not so positively and compassionately. He even reiterated that a certain menu item I chose did in fact contain gluten when I would have otherwise been completely clueless. Stopped by for lunch. The place was empty but started filling up as noon approached. Waiter was attentive and nice. The lunch specials looked delicious and the prices were in the 10-14 bucks range. They have lunch specials for bento boxes and for sushi rolls. You can choose two rolls from a list for like 8.95 or three rolls for 10.95. They are pretty basic rolls but they tasted good and the service was fast. I got the Alaska roll, shrimp tempura, and salmon avocado. I would definitely come back for lunch. So I go here frequently for lunch because I work down the street. The sushi has always been great. Sometimes lunch is crazy & packed, but the staff has always been attentive. The lunch specials are great. I'm a little adventurous so I always look for a place that has good sashimi- I love a really good chirachi bowl. They have a great chirachi bowl available, full of fresh fish, with octopus & seaweed salad for about $12-13. I love going here, but be forewarned the place does need a little love (doesn't matter to me, I go for the food). I also go here because the sashimi is great. Some sushi places focus on rolls, I prefer the sashimi. If you like the sashimi aspect & need a good affordable lunch, go here. read more

There are a lot of sushi restaurants in the Lake Mary area, but Samurai is one of my favorites. Their sushi is always fresh; they remember their customers and usually their orders, too; and they have great happy hour sushi and drink specials! I frequently pick up Samurai on my lunch breaks, or sneak away to dine-in if I can. I never have to wait long for my food, and they are always very friendly and greet me by name. They have a great selection of classic sushi rolls, bento boxes, and great values during dinner time. I recommend dropping by for happy hour, from 5-7pm, where you can get $1-3 rolls, house wine, and sake. It's a great quick lunch spot, too, as there's always a table available and the service is fast. While the selection is not quite as varied as Amura, most people don't like fruit in their sushi as much as I do. read more

We've been back to Samurai a couple of times since my last review, and quite frankly, there's been no update, because there's been very little change - till tonight. Even so, it's the same old at Samurai, and it's getting a trifle tired. We WERE greeted promptly and in a cheery "Good to see you - glad we have some more business on this Easter evening" manner. I've not said this before: the hostess doesn't make or break the evening, but she (or he, as in the case of Frankie's in Chicago) has a good shot at setting the tone for the evening. We were seated promptly and, for a change, the place had just 2 tables when we entered around 8-ish. We ordered 3 rolls for appetizer while we contemplated the menu. Only when it came did we realize how "not-a-very-good-value" that proposition was. Among the 18 little lumps, we're talking maybe, what, 2 ounces of fish (if that), a boatload of nifty handiwork, but at what price? At a total price of $15, that came to $120 a pound? Yellow tail isn't THAT expensive, and along with the tuna, it wasn't particularly fresh-tasting - whereupon we digressed into whether sushi in its original form was meant to be served at 40 degrees or room temperature. For entree, our son ordered another sushi (the "regular" for $14). That comprised a snow crab roll and about 6 other pieces, plus a tiny daikon/carrot salad. My wife ordered the tuna teriyaki, but got the salmon instead. There were apologies and pleadings and a general impression that they'd be grateful if my wife accepted the waitress' mistake (i.e., "I know it's my mistake, but chef be really p*&@ed and poke my eyes out with chopsticks if I took this back...") Gracious lady she is, she did. I had the shrimp yakiudon. Fairly tasty (and still a little salty) but the shrimps were rubbery (the shrimps were so small I fully expect a horde of giant mother shrimps coming out of the shadows when we leave to yell "BABY KILLER!!" and whip me with their hard tails... Washed it all down with a bottle of Wild Rock SV. First time I've come across this sauvignon blanc, but I recognized that it was, at $27 prob fair price for a NZ Marlborough SV. It turned out to be a '07: still drinkable, rather lightweight like a pinot gri, and not as lime as green apple as some of its fellow denizens. A word on the service: Mallory was pleasant, but not polished, and some of it might be her fault, and others, her manager's fault. She brought our wine in a water pitcher with ice in it (how GAUCHE!) - and no water in the pitcher/bucket; so the wine ended up just sitting on top of the ice after she poured, at least till I emptied my drinking water in it. She didn't hand me the screw cap to examine and smell (OK OK - I'm just playing with you, reader), But seriously: she did not pour to let me taste first, and she poured way too much until I stopped her. Before we even finished dinner, she brought a bowl of red bean ice cream to "compensate" for her confusing the salmon for tuna, and along with it, our check! Mallory: it would have been more proper to wait till we're done, clear the dishes, check that wine is finished (or ask) and THEN bring out the dessert. As it was, we got the impression you had a late date or mistakenly thought project runway was tonight! All in all, while literally this could easily have been a 'meh', I'm sticking with my 3 stars. read more

Went here for lunch with some family members. My idea of sushi is fresh and delicious. Samurai sushi offers neither. Their sushi was stale and unappetizing. Someone on our table ordered their fried noodle dish. I could've made it better at home. Overall the food was tasteless. The kicker: everyone on our table got FOOD POISONING!! It's fine to use frozen fish but they need to do a better job when defrosting it; too much water permeates the fish so you end up with a soggy, limp slice of sashimi. I'd stick with their sushi rolls. They do a good job with all the fusion ones. They also offer brown rice. read more

The Miso soup is so-so and deconstructs itself within seconds. The specialty rolls are fine but simple stuff like spicy tuna leave you wanting much more. My Ebi had no wasabi. It is a convenient location without parking issues. There is a really cool option to have your own chopsticks stored on site. It's like a mini cigar box. The chopsticks are just like little Harry Potter wands. At this price point, in this area, there are better options out there. read more

I ordered to go and had a bad experience. I got the shrimp and avocado salad and it was dry, no ponzu, or seasoning. The shrimp Shumai is underwhelming also. Let me start off by saying that I am not a sushi purist. The idea that there is a proper ratio of vinegar to sugar in my sushi rice or that I don't consume enough sashimi to appreciate the whole "sushi experience" doesn't really register on my radar. I like my bite-sized fish + rice + seaweed combination and I give the sushi chef pretty wide license to modify that as he/she sees fit. The service here is what sets Samurai Sushi apart for me. My family has only eaten here a few times but the staff remembers us and often stop to play with my (currently 18 month-old) daughter. The selection of rolls here includes all of the basics, plus a few specials. The prices are what you'd expect of a sushi restaurant of this caliber - about $4 for the small veggie rolls and up to about $10 for the special large rolls. As one other reviewer mentioned, they have awesome happy hour specials and their lunch specials are also very economical! They also have a few non-alcoholic beverages from Japan, including a very fun to open Japanese version of Sprite! Try it out! Dark wood interior and well-divided booths ensure privacy and the din is manageable even when there is a full house. I do wish they were open for lunch on Saturdays, as I feel a little bit better bringing the kidlet when there aren't people on their dates surrounding me, but no one has ever treated us with disparagement. read more

About as fresh as a babies diaper after a day at a theme park. Sushi is low grade. Super market or gas station sushi is better. Cheap generic soy sauce as well and larger than life rice rice balls in Nigiri. Had a skunked glass of Pinot Grigio during happy hour. This place was very good! The atmosphere and decoration are intimate and quiet, it feels a bit more upscale than the other Sushi restaurants in Orlando.
