This is a family owned business. The waitress was super sweet and very attentive. I can definitely say that this is a family atmosphere. The food was ok. I was disappointed that the rice was not cooked fully and the beans tasted like can beans. The toritos were different and not as good as normal toritos. Salsa was super yummy! Solid restaurant for a cute little dinner! It was not super memorable, but the food is reliable and the service is good. If you like seafood, it's definitely the spot. We went last-minute and liked the huge space that the restaurant is a part of (although it's kind of creepy at night!). I got the famous molcajete bowl, which is essentially a large bowl of melted cheese with some seafood. Avoid if you are trying to lose weight! My fiancé got the whole fish filet, which comes with rice and beans. That looked like a fantastic, healthy meal. Our server was really nice and attentive. A hole in the wall restaurant. My husband and I would have probably never thought about trying this restaurant because of their location. Tucked away in what looks like exhibition space/party area kind of building, this place is easy to miss, especially since it's on the corner of a residential area! The restaurant came as a recommendation from our friends who live close to this area. Yesterday was our second time there. On the inside, it feels like you've gone to Mexico. Bright colorful walls, Spanish music and simple decor. When you sit, they serve you fresh chips and salsa and ask you for your drink orders while you review the menu. Yesterday, we ordered the same dishes we ordered the first time we were there (which was about 7 months ago). A whole fried red snapper fish, cactus salad, guacamole, fries, Lava Bowl and this time breaded fried shrimp instead of the garlic calamari we ordered last time. Since the fish is fried to order, it usually takes a little while before it comes out but everything else comes out pretty quickly. The food is fresh and delicious. Everything has so much flavor. The guacamole is creamy but it doesn't look like they add any sour cream to it. The shrimp was cooked to perfection! The best breaded shrimp I've had in a while! The cactus salad has a distinctive flavor and is very tasty. The Lava Bowl is so hearty and tasty! It's basically mixed seafood cooked with some veggies like mushrooms in a rich tomato sauce topped with some melted cheese, what can be better than that?! All the food is served with tortillas. Some dishes like the fried shrimp come with rice and beans on the side. The prices are average. For all the dishes we ordered (and we ordered 2 cactus salads and 2 guacamole), the bill came out to about $95 which is pretty average for a seafood dinner for 4 people. The service is excellent! One lady serves pretty much the whole restaurant and she is on top of everything all the time! We will return to enjoy their food again and afain. Would you believe me if I told you I've been wanting to eat here for 20 years? My friend and I had planned to eat here back in the '90s but we weren't able to find the restaurant so we strolled away in our plaid flannel shirts, pagers on hip, stomping away in our Doc martens and ended up eating somewhere else while rockin' out to Nirvana (Insert any additional 90's clichés here). I totally forgot about this place until I saw some other Yelpers post photos of the food here. I'm glad it's still open after all these years! The restaurant is in a little plaza with a few other businesses, in a corner spot. The interior is spacious with bright cheerful accents. We were seated at a cozy booth and after glancing at the menu I knew I had to have the Mighty Mt. Molcajete, AKA lava bowl! You have your choice of cameron/shrimp or mixed seafood. I opted for the mix. While we waited we got a tray of chips with salsa. The salsa had a wonderful blend of flavors and tasted house-made. It went great with the chips. It took a bit to get our food but it's OK, I'm sure it takes a long time to heat up a bowl made of rock! When it came out it was a bubbling, cauldron-like batch of stew. As a hungry Shakespeare would say, "Double double toil and trouble; Fire burn and seafood bubble!" It was a mountainous pile of seafood in that bowl, filled with shrimp, octopus, calamari and snail. It was molten hot and I did have to wait quite a bit for it to cool down. The broth was volcanically spicy and well seasoned. You have the option of flour or corn tortillas to go with the molcajete, I opted for the flour. I received 2 large sized tortillas, piping hot in the tortilla warmer. While the seafood itself was pretty good, the shrimp was not cleaned so I did get some gritty bites when I was eating. I had a bite of the shrimp flautas which were excellent. They came with a mound of guacamole, and the shrimp was tender and delicious in its marinated red sauce. Service was very friendly, sweet and attentive. Apparently my last review is 7 years old. I've been coming here for way longer than that, and the food has remained consistently good. This is my favorite mariscos in the world. Whenever I come back and visit I try to come here for the shrimp molcajete with all its shrimpy cheesy mushroomy boiling goodness. Was happy to share this place with a loved one on a recent trip and they got the mixed seafood molcajete and loved every bite. There are other places around the country that have a molcajete on the menu but none compare to this one. read more

My niece was in town not too long ago and she really wanted to grab some Mexican food, we opted to find a spot in Guadalupe to try since we have both noticed how many Mexican restaurants there were there when she visited last time. When we arrived we were the only ones there, not a great sign for a Friday night around 6 pm. Nonetheless we sat down and were greeted by a friendly server, we ordered guacamole to share - which was good. My niece ordered fish tacos and I ordered the Sonora style beef steak. The tortillas on my niece's tacos fell about the minute she lifted them one by one, which kinda sucks right? My beef steak was tough, good but tough. I could literally only eat about 1/3 of it. I must say the food here is okay, nothing to write home about in my opinion. I will give it another try to see if I just came on a weird night because I want to like it. read more

Fab chips and salsa, you can tell it is made fresh. The service is always so friendly. The beers are cheap and served with frozen mugs. There is an amazing thing that happens here...Molcajete. This dish is ridiculous. It is filled with shrimp (you can get mixed seafood too), onions, mushrooms and tomatoes in this beautiful sauce that has just the right amount of spice. It is topped with a handful of cheese and served in a screaming hot lava rock bowl. It arrives at the table bubbling and sizzling. Get it with the super fresh corn tortillas and you have a meal made in heaven. I always share it with someone because it is so much food. The seafood cocktails here are great too! First off, the location of this place isn't helping it at all. It's tucked away behind a huge ugly walled in area, and you can't see it from the street at all. This isn't a luxurious meal by any means, and when we walked in we took note of all the un-bussed tables filled with dirty plates, etc. However, we sat down to eat nonetheless. The server (who was also the cashier and busser on this day) was very polite and friendly. He promptly brought over chips and salsa, which were very good. The food we ordered was good - my wife had fish tacos, I had calamari. Both portion sizes were large. Mine came with beans, salad, rice and tortillas. Our bill was less than $25, so no complaints on the prices either. This place would probably flourish in a different location, and with more staff. read more

Great seafood and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is not nearly as good as the food but the help and the staff are friendly and amazing.

Five of us arrived at 6:00 for dinner. As all of us were driving, we all stayed with soft drinks or iced tea. The restaurant is a little hard to find, as it is in a courtyard, but once inside, we were made welcome and comfortable. We started out with the Molcajete de Camarones, lots of shrimp in a hot molcajete (mortar like container) with loads of flavorful sauce. Two of us shared one portion, though in reality three or four could have shared it. Of note was the freshness of the shrimp. We also ordered Guacamole, which was perfectly made. Other orders were for Calamari, which was cooked to perfection and served with a nice sauce on the side. Main courses ordered were Chile Rellenos con Queso, Green Shrimp (shrimp in green chile), and drowned shrimp and San Diego spiced shrimp. As you will note, shrimp figured heavily in our ordering because it was so fresh and so good. All the main courses came with beans and rice as well as the choice of flour or corn tortillas (freshly made of course). Dessert was an excellent flan that was cooling for some of the spice we ate. I was out in Tempe for a last minute work and realized most Indian buffer places (there are few good ones around here) were closed. I still searched for what was good around me at 3pm and I am glad I followed yelp's recommendation and came here. I am further glad that I read the recommendations and order the soup in coconut and red snapper. Both amazingly delicious. (I could not finish it but enjoyed it all that I could and now carrying it with me.) Do visit in the evening and enjoy the outdoor sitting. read more

A quaint restaurant in strip mall on the border of Tempe and Guadalupe. Ordered the crab torta and the San Diego shrimp. Complimentary chips and salsa was off the chain. The salsa was fresh and the flavors were popping. The torta was fantastic. Had great fresh flavor. The shrimp, which was a bacon wrapped shrimp with octopus stuffed with the shrimp, covered by a white sauce with mushrooms, was a little underwhelming. The service was fantastic. Came here for dinner. My boyfriend ordered the medium red snapper and we were surprised at how big it was. The salsa was authentic and my boyfriend kept complimenting it. I had the Veracruz fish and really enjoyed it. A regular patron recommended we try the hot lava bowl. Yelp, I cannot think of the words necessary to express my disappointment. This was not only the worst seafood I have eaten in my life, but by far the worst Mexican food as well. What are you people smoking? We started with a few beers, can't screw that one up. I ordered an appetizer that was completely not as described but I should have known better since it was in the cold section of the appetizers. It sure didn't say raw oysters, raw shrimp, octopus, and thawed shrimp in a crappy broth. All for $15? As if there wasn't enough lack of texture with those ingredients, they throw avocado on top. Yeah, that will round out the dish. I am not even completely factoring that into the rating because I should have paid more attention to it being cold. For my meal I got Marlin Machaca. What kind of seafood joint serves you shredded fish? Is it marlin or Tuna? Why the hell would I want my fish shredded? On top of that the flavors were just bad. It was either canned, or just not fresh. How can you call this place a seafood establishment when they rape the fish so badly? It came with refried beans, white rice with frozen peas and carrots, and a pile of raw iceberg lettuce. Why are they adding frozen veggies to the rice? It doesn't bring me comfort to know they aren't cooking anything fresh. And why the nasty white iceberg in clumps? The beans were good and they gave us tortillas so I spent the meal making little tacos and seeing which hot sauce covered up the poor flavors the best. The other victim ordered the "fish". How much less information can they provide. It was a choice between sea bass or Tilapia. Since Tilapia is a FRESHWATER fish, they lose points and really expose themselves as a fraud. Hers was much better than mine, but nothing worthy of taking it home leftovers or ever returning. Bill totaled out to $50+!! For Mexican food, and terrible Mexican food at that! Food was awful, prices were outrageous, it was in the cesspool that is Guadalupe, how much worse can it get? I should have listened to my inner voice that said nothing good happens in Guadalupe. It is an unbelievable little place. The instant you cross over from Tempe to the Guad the road turns to crap with potholes and bumps everywhere. Businesses vanish, and homes are replaced with shacks. Minimal street lights and overall maintenance and infrastructure make you feel like 2012 has already arrived. The best part of our journey was driving away, seemingly crossing an imaginary line of civilization and being back in Tempe at AZ Mills Mall. Not sure what the expectations are for the other reviewers, but I expect fresh food from the sea. Much of what we ate was probably out of a can like the octopus, oysters, and the marlin. The shrimp were most likely frozen and/or precooked. Saturday night, there was one couple eating there, and a bunch of drunks outside playing the guitar. That says more about this place than the unexplainable positive reviews on here. I will never be able to look at Yelp reviews the same way again... ... The one positive I take from this experience is that I saw a hot dog cart and a taco cart as I left the Guad. I may have to hit up the taco cart in the future. I've eaten there several times now, both for lunch and dinner, excellent Mexican seafood - very authentic. Great flavor, great salsa in a (very) casual environment that gives a lot of the local hispanic flavor of Guadalupe! The music on the jukebox is often traditional Mexican Mariachis and everyone speaks Spanish - a great meal and great bargain! read more

San Diego Bay Restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a shopping center on the main drag in Guadalupe. It's taken me a long time to review this place. The first time I went was over two years ago and I've been back a few times. I have to admit, I've never had better Mexican seafood. I've had better...... There was a reason this place was not busy on 7pm on a Friday evening.... For the price you pay, you get very minimal seafood, and too many fillers. For instance we ordered a plate for 1, the special combination with, snail, octopus, squid. It had tiny pieces of each item mixed in with lots of onions and tomatoes and yellow peppers - this plate was small and cost a whopping $22.00 !!!!!!!! I could not believe it! Then we ordered a ceviche dish, there was non existent seafood, very little shrimp very little fish, however loaded with tomatoes and fillers. I Will NOT Be Back! I have been to many Mexican Cantina Seafood Saloons from Baja Mexico to the best in the Southwest US regions. This place does not even compare. On Friday, 07/22/2016, my wife and I went to San Diego Bay for a dinner date. We both like good seafood..any kind!!! I ordered the campechana (a seafood cocktail). My wife ordered the brochetas de camarones (shrimp brochettes). We also had an appetizer of ensalada de nopales (cactus salad). All were very good. We definitely recommend this place to anybody else who enjoys seafood. Couple of things worth noting though. Some perhaps for improvement. Others are just observations: 1) I would have ordered the coctel de mariscos y coco (seafood cocktail served in a coconut shell) but did not. I did not see it on the menu. I only saw it on a posting on the table after ordering the campechana, and a few minutes had lapsed. It was too late to change. Please make this offering more prevalent, as this is something that I would have ordered had I have seen it. 2) Regarding the "famous" seafood soup in a lava style pot, the same goes. Please make it more prevalent on the menu. My wife wished she ordered that instead. 3) The service, while good, is slightly slower compared to other restaurants of this kind. I do not know what to say here. If you are in a rush, or have a fixed amount of time, you may want to reconsider. It is not terribly long a wait, but it is slower than you would expect. 4) Also, my wife told me (she is Vietnamese background, and likes fresh seafood), that the seafood while fresh, and was tasty, was not as fresh as other Mexican seafood restaurants she has been to in metro Phoenix. Moving forward, perhaps things to look at would be the following: A) My wife will return some time in the future, and order what we wished we had ordered initially. We will return. B) Perhaps this place may want to see how to address anything regarding the service, or freshness, but it may not be necessary. Other then that, my wife and I both liked this restaurant. Like every mexican joint, you start with chips and salsa. Their salsa is a unique favor and color. Not sure what they put in it, but it's delicious. That's kind of my precursor to what I'm going to order. So the first time I went, I started with the a seafood bowl that was awesome. The seafood was fresh, and tasted great. We also ordered what is known as the Lava Bowl. Served in a volcano rock bowl that stands tall, the dish was served boiling. A liquid gold of cheese, mushrooms, onion, shrimp and spices. Served with fresh, homemade tortillas, this dish is not one to miss. Beers served in cold, frosty mugs. Loving this new place. read more

Forget the corporate seafood restaurants. Spend an hour or so in Mexico, and eat some amazing food! Located at what ostensibly is the SE corner of Guadalupe and Priest, the San Diego Bay Restaurant is easy to miss...or disregard at first glance. From the street it looks like just another Guadalupe market. Then you go around to the lot and try to squeeze in between a BMW and a Mercedes. What do they know that you don't? That the San Diego Bay (named the best authentic Mexican restaurant by the New Times 2005) serves some of the best south of the border seafood around! Forget ambience...here the food is the star. The whole red snapper, and the grilled seafood assortment are very, very good. But what trips my trigger? The shrimp diablo holds the key to my heart. Shrimp in sour cream, jalepenos, with garlic and onions. Kicks like a mule with velvet horseshoes. Oh so good. My sister orders the version without the heat...called camarones verdes. Do yourself a favor. Take a trip to Guad....and keep those Negra Modelos coming! read more

Multiple visits through the years reaffirm my love for this place! The pregnant tostadas are the best with real crab vs the other tostadas, accompanied by lovely scallops and shrimp. As other say, the shrimp molcajete is very tasty, and also props to their goburnador tacos. Avoid the stuffed filet preparations however.
