A hole in the wall restaurant. My husband and I would have probably never thought about trying this restaurant because of their location. Tucked away in what looks like exhibition space/party area kind of building, this place is easy to miss, especially since it's on the corner of a residential area! The restaurant came as a recommendation from our friends who live close to this area. Yesterday was our second time there. On the inside, it feels like you've gone to Mexico. Bright colorful walls, Spanish music and simple decor. When you sit, they serve you fresh chips and salsa and ask you for your drink orders while you review the menu. Yesterday, we ordered the same dishes we ordered the first time we were there (which was about 7 months ago). A whole fried red snapper fish, cactus salad, guacamole, fries, Lava Bowl and this time breaded fried shrimp instead of the garlic calamari we ordered last time. Since the fish is fried to order, it usually takes a little while before it comes out but everything else comes out pretty quickly. The food is fresh and delicious. Everything has so much flavor. The guacamole is creamy but it doesn't look like they add any sour cream to it. The shrimp was cooked to perfection! The best breaded shrimp I've had in a while! The cactus salad has a distinctive flavor and is very tasty. The Lava Bowl is so hearty and tasty! It's basically mixed seafood cooked with some veggies like mushrooms in a rich tomato sauce topped with some melted cheese, what can be better than that?! All the food is served with tortillas. Some dishes like the fried shrimp come with rice and beans on the side. The prices are average. For all the dishes we ordered (and we ordered 2 cactus salads and 2 guacamole), the bill came out to about $95 which is pretty average for a seafood dinner for 4 people. The service is excellent! One lady serves pretty much the whole restaurant and she is on top of everything all the time! We will return to enjoy their food again and afain. It is not only different, it is very good!

Would you believe me if I told you I've been wanting to eat here for 20 years? My friend and I had planned to eat here back in the '90s but we weren't able to find the restaurant so we strolled away in our plaid flannel shirts, pagers on hip, stomping away in our Doc martens and ended up eating somewhere else while rockin' out to Nirvana (Insert any additional 90's clichés here). I totally forgot about this place until I saw some other Yelpers post photos of the food here. I'm glad it's still open after all these years! The restaurant is in a little plaza with a few other businesses, in a corner spot. The interior is spacious with bright cheerful accents. We were seated at a cozy booth and after glancing at the menu I knew I had to have the Mighty Mt. Molcajete, AKA lava bowl! You have your choice of cameron/shrimp or mixed seafood. I opted for the mix. While we waited we got a tray of chips with salsa. The salsa had a wonderful blend of flavors and tasted house-made. It went great with the chips. It took a bit to get our food but it's OK, I'm sure it takes a long time to heat up a bowl made of rock! When it came out it was a bubbling, cauldron-like batch of stew. As a hungry Shakespeare would say, "Double double toil and trouble; Fire burn and seafood bubble!" It was a mountainous pile of seafood in that bowl, filled with shrimp, octopus, calamari and snail. It was molten hot and I did have to wait quite a bit for it to cool down. The broth was volcanically spicy and well seasoned. You have the option of flour or corn tortillas to go with the molcajete, I opted for the flour. I received 2 large sized tortillas, piping hot in the tortilla warmer. While the seafood itself was pretty good, the shrimp was not cleaned so I did get some gritty bites when I was eating. I had a bite of the shrimp flautas which were excellent. They came with a mound of guacamole, and the shrimp was tender and delicious in its marinated red sauce. Service was very friendly, sweet and attentive. The server really wanted to make sure we had a good experience here.

Apparently my last review is 7 years old. I've been coming here for way longer than that, and the food has remained consistently good. This is my favorite mariscos in the world. Whenever I come back and visit I try to come here for the shrimp molcajete with all its shrimpy cheesy mushroomy boiling goodness. Was happy to share this place with a loved one on a recent trip and they got the mixed seafood molcajete and loved every bite. There are other places around the country that have a molcajete on the menu but none compare to this one.

Awful!!!!! 35 dollars for everything in this photo!! What a rip off I cannot believe they send plates out like this. Super disappointed I called to let them know about this and they hung up. Please go somewhere else. Never going again

Second time and the eating here and I absolutely love this place! Traditional Mexican restaurant and the best I've found in the area!! The staff is super friendly! The Tilapia was sooooo good! If you like sea food + Mexican food, you need to come here! I can't wait to come back!

This is what half order of agua Chile and one ceviche tostada looks like delivered to you from this place

I ordered this place from door dash and was so happy and excited for some delicious seafood spent a total of 26$ for the items I bought it gets delivered and thought it was oddly light. I open up the boxes to this sad quantity, it's almost like they packaged ur stuff with a big EF U (: and a mean smiling face. If you want to get ripped off I suggest you go here

We had a very wonderful experience here. My wife ordered the cocktail of shrimp inside of coconut, very delicious very tasty very authentic. I ordered my regular fillet devil style with white rice and refried beans and flour tortillas. I've been coming here 19 years and it's always amazing service and food. Thank you

Fab chips and salsa, you can tell it is made fresh. The service is always so friendly. The beers are cheap and served with frozen mugs. There is an amazing thing that happens here...Molcajete. This dish is ridiculous. It is filled with shrimp (you can get mixed seafood too), onions, mushrooms and tomatoes in this beautiful sauce that has just the right amount of spice. It is topped with a handful of cheese and served in a screaming hot lava rock bowl. It arrives at the table bubbling and sizzling. Get it with the super fresh corn tortillas and you have a meal made in heaven. I always share it with someone because it is so much food. The seafood cocktails here are great too! Check out the pics I posted to see what I'm talking about. Don't come here looking for average Mexican food. There isn't a single burrito to be found. Go get some!!!!

He was incredibly kind and attentive, especially with my friend who is deaf, making sure we always had water, napkins, and plenty of chips. The margarita flight is always a must for me, so I had to order one for my friend since it was her first visit. I told her that even though neither of us are into spicy margaritas, I knew she'd love it and I was right! Every margarita was delicious. I also ordered the lavender lemonade, which was refreshing and just as good. Ghost Ranch never seems to miss when it comes to drinks. Potato tacos! Another must have My friend ordered the Aztec Cake and insisted I'd regret not getting it. She was absolutely right. It was bomb and Torrance offered us a side of chips .TY. I ordered the short rib. It was flavorful, tender, and filling, with lots of garlic and savory flavor. I'm not sure if short rib is just not my thing, but it didn't wow me the way the Aztec Cake did. I warmed it up later and it was delicious a second time so no complaints. Excellent service, delicious drinks, and a fun way to spend the Fourth. We'll definitely be back!

Been waiting to check this place out for Happy Hour and finally got around to it with friends. Happy Hour is daily with $3 off all appetizers (not just selected as the menu says) in addition to drink specials. We ordered a few apps to share and had: - Chips with Guacamole and Salsa: solid - Queso Fundido: I was excited for this as friends have said they liked it, but the cheese harden within minutes and it wasn't as nice - Street Style Esquites: I was expecting more corn rather than mixed in another cheese dip and likewise, the cheese harden quickly. - Shrimp cocktail: it was pretty heavy on the liquid rather than thicken, but good - 3 potato tacos: okay, wasn't expected it to be fried so it was a bit greasy but loved the slaw it came with - Southwest egg roll: not bad, was a crowd's favorite and I liked the sauce it came with We didn't realize most of the apps came with tortilla chips otherwise we may have ordered differently. I got the frozen margarita and it was a bit sweet, but nice for the summer evening. Our server wasn't super attentive, but was nice whenever they came around. There's a sampler entree platter I'd like to try, but of all the appetizers we tried, the best was probably the chips with guacamole and salsa.

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

First of all, eating anywhere in Tempe, starts with a frustrating time.... Trying to find parking and having to pay to park. I don't understand why restaurants don't have parking for customers. Idk maybe I don't know where to look. Second, it's hot AF in here. I feel sorry for the guys cooking. It's 105 today and the restaurant is so small, it's probably impossible to keep cool during the summer. Finally, the food. It all tastes very fresh! NO SEED OILS is amazing. I feel like I have won something when I find a restaurant that uses olive oil and beef tallow to cook in. Best corn tortillas I have had for sure. We basically tried one of each taco. (Although some of the tacos we ordered were wrong, so we just kept adding) not a big deal, because they were delicious and we loved them. I felt like the carne was chewy but my husband loves chewier meat. The taco with the marlin was my favorite. And the one that came out kind of like a cheese crisp. It's loud in here and again the space is very small. They do not serve wine at all. But yummy margaritas! The bartender is working solo and working hard! She busted her butt and did an amazing job.
