The portions are usually HUGE but today I ordered a hot pastrami and it was COLD, the bread was soggy like it was an old Sandwhich, and they gave me 2 pieces of pastrami. Today was the first time my husband & I ate here. I was pleasantly surprised & wondered why I waited so long. As soon as I opened the door, that delightful deli scent hit me. We arrived sometime around 3pm. The atmosphere was nice. Only 2 other families there. Comfortable seating, friendly service, free WiFi & two TVs. I ordered a vegetarian sandwich. Avocado spread, cucumber, provolone, red onion, tomato & sprouts on Jewish Rye bread. It was really good. My husband had a Hoagy. Salami, capicola, mortadella, provolone, red pepper, lettuce, mustard, mayo Jewish Rye. He liked his very much as well. We also ordered something from the deli, I can't remember the the name of it. Cubed salami, cheddar & mozzarella, black & pimento olives, green bell pepper with something like a vinegar & oil dressing. It was good but I'm not much of a meat eater so I left it to my husband. He only had a few bites as he was full from the sandwich so we took the deli item home for our son. He liked it a lot. That's saying something as he's a picky eater. Generally when I'm in town I hit up the best little sandwich shop when I want a sandwich, but San Francisco Deli came highly recommended so I figured that I would give it a shot. Turns out it's pretty darn good! I went with a safe bet; the BLT and anitpasto salad. The BLT featured delicious thick cut bacon and very fresh tomato. The bread was decent, and didn't get soggy like at so many other places. The antipasto salad was very flavorful and delicious. Perhaps a bit rich, but still amazing. Sourdough bread is amazing and fresh! My favorite is a tri-tip dip on a soft hoagie roll! It's so good! They also have a jalapeño potato salad which is good too! They do get busy, so call ahead or go before or after 12! The lunch rush can be brutal if you're on a time crunch. They have a dozen cheeses to choose from for your sandwich too! So for my smoked Turkey sandwich or tri-tip, there always ways to mix it up. Smoked cheddar or provolone are my favorite! read more

Had my first ever Hot pastrami sandwich. Why have I never had one before? That is something I'm going to rectify. Loved it!

Let me start by saying SFD has been one of our favorite lunch spots forever. We are long time local customers and have eaten at the old location and at the current location. Never had a complaint food and service and cost was always great. However yesterday we arrived around 11:30 and the place was surprisingly empty so we thought cool this should be much faster than usual. Even the gal at the counter commented that it was slow. We ordered 2 hot pastrami sandwiches (no sides because there were none in the chiller to choose from) and 2 ice teas, took our seats and waited, and waited and finally had to go to the counter to see when our order would be up. when it finally arrived it looked great. But the meat was so full of gristle it was hard to eat and I was unable to finish. In addition, I had ordered extra pickles and got extra peppers instead, which I'd said I didn't want. Our lunch in Redding, not SF, cost more than $40 at a sandwich shop. Very disappointed. read more

My husband and I have eaten at this deli since the 80's. It was always our go to place and we felt like it was a treat to get a hot pastrami sandwich on their delicious bread. Why is it I have to feel like I'm inconveniencing somebody by placing an order? Shouldn't they be grateful they have customers which pay their bills and keep the door open? I guess I don't get it. The food is ok, I've had better sandwiches many times at other places, but I've also had much worse. The only sandwich worth getting in my opinion is the Tri-tip they have available on Friday, otherwise I'll pass from now on. Pretty good sandwich shop in Redding, but just not what they used to be. They are definitely milking their reputation. They used to make a sandwich that you would consider sharing because it has so much on it. It's over $10 for a sandwich and soda, which is a little on the high side. It's still better than Subway, but not too much. I miss the way they used to do it. One of the nice things about SF Deli is that they do have pretty great pastrami, although they are pretty stingy with it. In my opinion, the best sandwich in Redding is still at Holiday Market's Deli. It's $5 for a sandwich and soda. It's $6.50 if you want double meat. They have great turkey and roast beef. read more

We stopped at this cute deli on a whim, from our GPS system. It just sounded good to us, as we were both in the mood for a good deli sandwich. We were not disappointed. Fairly priced, moderate portions and very fresh ingredients. I had a hot pastrami on rye for $6.95 and my partner had a tri tip sandiwch for the same price. Both were very good lunches. When I think of San Francisco Deli it is their freshly baked sourdough rolls at lunch time, the quality as well as the quantity of the meats and produce they put on the sandwiches. I used to love eating at this place, as a local I have eaten here for over a decade. I have watch the steady decline in quality and customer service over the years. Sadly, today was the last day I will ever eat at this establishment. Let me elaborate.. I came in with my family for a sandwich, something we made a bit of a tradition when visiting family. Ording at this place has never been a great experience, the owener who took our order was short, snippy, and flat rude; sorry to ask about your bread choice's, I like options. Anyways, my we ordered 2 sandwiches, the same sandwich. After placing our order we found our seats. Mind you this is a deli, they only make sandwiches, it's their sole purpose. So you would think that they would have a system set to deal with a rush, but they don't. After about 25 minutes of waiting I walked to the front to see if our sandwiches were in the process of being made, which they weren't. About 5 minutes of standing and waiting, I watched a female sandwich maker (without gloves) drop a roll into the condiments station, she pick the sandwich up and proceeded to buff the top with her filthy apron. After shining the top off the roll she looked up and noticed I saw what she did. I thought to myself how disgusting of a thing to do, no way she is going to continue making that sandwich, but she did. My stomach turned a little bit, I stood for a minute and contemplated saying something but I bit my tounge and continued to wait for my food. Another 5 minutes passed and I was tired of waiting so I asked the lady at the register if she could check my order, she looked back and asked if it had been started, the lady who buffed the top of the roll with her dirty aprin said she was almost done making it, that was my sandwich. I had to say something about the contaminated sandwich, I was not about to eat that, the owner looked at my like I was speaking a different language. I told her I wasn't going to eat that and I've waiting 35 minutes already, her response was, "I am the owner, look around you, can't you see we are busy, what do you expect" I said I don't appreciate the workers not wearing gloves and wiping the sandwich she dropped with her dirty aprin. I also didn't expected to wait 35 minutes for 2 sandwiches. Needless to say, other than this bad experience, their quality has diminished and prices gone up. We just got back to Austin after visiting San Francisco area. My friend suggested we take a drive and took us to SF Deli, which is not in San Francisco LOL, but the drive was worth it. My BF ordered the pastrami and I got the double dutch turkey. My was soooo good, then I reached over for a bite of BF's pastrami and wanted to grab it out of his hand and not give it back. They DONT WEAR GLOVES! I watched them dry their hands on their pants and NOT wear gloves. They never smile(if you care). The dish washer stopped washing dishes and with the same damp hands cut a bread loaf. The girl making my sandwich left the sandwich making area to go into the kitchen/dish washing area and came back with NOTHING everytime. Not sanitary, won't be going back. read more
