They DONT WEAR GLOVES! I watched them dry their hands on their pants and NOT wear gloves. They never smile(if you care). I went here on a recommendation from one of the locals. She's an OBGYN. Yeah, I dont know why or how that relates to this establishment but I can tell you that she loves pastrami. I mean for a place to be called "San Francisco Deli" located in REDDING was interesting. Priced at $7.09 before tx and tip. I came around lunch time and it was fairly crowded. I dont think this town has enough minorities because everywhere I go I get gawked at. So when I walk in its like all eyes on me. I dont think it helped that I was wearing my suit. uhg! Anyway. The pastrami was just ok. The portions were inconsistent because my sandwich was stacked high while the guy in front of me was stacked maybe 3/4. 1 UP for me =D They make their sourdough fresh daily and its good. The North Beach is my fav. It's super yummy with lots of sausage but I usually order an extra side of marinara because what comes on the sam-bam typically isn't enough for me. The sandwiches are good. Most of what's in the bakery case is dreadful though; not a whole lot of flavor and/or too oily. Honestly though, it really just grosses me out that none of the dishes are covered and some even look "crusty" on top. Ewww...regardless, I'm still a fan of the sandwiches. The customer service at the register is terrible though. The lines are always long and the employees working the register seriously need to loosen up. No smiles, no nothing. I always feel like I'm inconveniencing them. Even if the lines aren't long, you still get sourpusses greeting you. The employees working the back or bringing out the food are always awesome though. They're consistently polite and courteous which ultimately makes me feel better about the horrible register service. My suggestion is to call your order in ahead of time or to even place your order online...even if you're going to eat-in. Cause really, what this equates to is less face-to-face time with the register employees and all-in-all, I'd say that by itself is a win. read more

Stopped in the other day with my wife. We had been passing by this little gem for many years, but finally took the plunge and am so glad we did. The sandwiches are awesome and the service was great! I have eaten here for 20 years and have always enjoyed the food. To my dismay I went there today and there was Christian music blaring from the prep area. I know the new owners probably think everybody in Redding appreciates this type of music but there are quite a few of us that are not into this. I guess if you are secular and do not want to hear somebody's religion blaring at you I would find another deli. Most of the chains forbid franchises from playing religious music. Wish their cooks would consider using garlic, onions, and fresh herbs so they don't have to use a powdered flavor enhancer that some people are allergic to. The sandwich was delicious. I'm so glad they changed to leaf lettuce instead of shredded and now they warm up your bread. The dutch crunch was so soft. However the service is terrible. The girl at the counter is like talking to a wall, she was not friendly and had no personality to make you feel welcome. They also could work on cleanliness. The front door looked as if the finger prints hadn't been cleaned off for a month. The menu could be revamped. I think they should have more signature sandwiches and a modern looking menu. Also they charge for olives which is ridiculous since the sandwich is so expensive. I can get an all organic sandwich for cheaper. They do however give you a good size portion of meat. Longtime SF Deli fan, they even catered my wedding! The hot pastrami on sourdough roll is hard to beat. It's enough to make my mouth water thinking about that delicious pastrami that is about 1.5 inches thick on that tasty bread. They get super busy at lunch so it's not a bad idea to order online. San Fransisco deli is by far the best sandwich shop in the north state. The Ruben sandwich is my favorite. The Ruben is made on marble rye bread and it comes with just the right amount of thousand island dressing, sauerkraut and a lot of meat. The sandwiches are huge. Another thing I like about San Fransisco deli is that they carry miss Vickie's BBQ potato chips. Miss Vickie's is my favorite brand of chips. I am new to this area and I remembered one of my new friends recommending this place. I love locally owned places, so I wanted to try it. Wednesdays and Fridays are tri tip days. I had planned on getting a cold sandwich until I smelt their tri tip getting out of the car. This is the 3rd best tri tip sandwich I have ever had. And probably the best one I have eaten in northern California. That is a huge complement. Their bread is amazing. I got sour dough. Great crust and soft center. They have more options and bake the bread in house. Their menu is laid out very well. Easy to read/follow to where I had most of my questions answered by the time I was ready to order. The lady who took my order was awesome. She knew best sellers and came with many recommendations. In fact, I would like to try a few more sandwiches based on how well she loves the food (and makes me want to try the food, too). I came near the back end of lunch. The place was packed and very clean. Staff was staying on top of cleaning tables, bringing out orders and collecting the dishes. Based on their quality of food and the amount of people coming and going, they were moving really fast. And all staff was friendly. This is a little gem, and has that home town feel. The price is reflective of their quality. It is a deli, not a sit down restaurant... and I like them even with all the SF Giants paraphernalia. I hired SFD to cater a "celebration of life" for me. The food was great, the service was far beyond anything I could've expected. Two things stood out to me... 1) when I went in to inquire about their catering services, the store was packed...when it became my turn...I was taken off to the side by "Elaine" who instructed another employee take her place at the register...we then began to discuss all the options...I was extremely impressed with her demeanor and willingness to answer all my questions (JACK...YOU NEED TO GIVE THIS EMPLOYEE A RAISE) I went back later to "seal the deal" and planned to put down a deposit.. Pretty bad service here today. Ordered online at about noon for pick up at 12:45pm. I walked in at 12:50 to discover they had not started on my order yet. I paid for my four sandwiches, pickles, and potato salad and sat to wait. It was moderately busy but not crazy. About 5 minutes later someone came out of the kitchen to tell me they didn't have the gluten-free bread I needed for one of the sandwiches. The person I ordered it for has a gluten allergy so she didn't get to eat lunch today. They refunded me the cash and did say sorry but it would have been better if they would have called me on the phone number I provided when I ordered to let me know they didn't have gluten-free bread so that I could have figured out an alternative instead of letting me walk in and pay and then telling me. It would've also been nice if they would have started working on my order when I placed it, to be ready when I requested it, it instead of prioritizing all the people that they were seating inside despite the states Covid orders. I don't really care whether or not the restaurant is obeying the orders, but the reason I did take out is because I didn't want to wait inside the restaurant with all those other people. Basically ruined my lunch break because I spent most of it waiting for my order instead of eating my order. Pretty boneheaded way to deal with takeout orders. SF Deli is probably one of the best sandwich spots in Redding. There sandwiches are always fresh and loaded with meat. Wednesdays and Fridays they have smoked tri tip which is amazing. Probably the one knock I can give them is that they are pricy but I believe in paying for quality. read more

Thought I would try S.F deli again, since new owners took over. What a disappointment. Tri top sand have little meat compared to previous visits ( I have been going here since they were in the Cypress Square shopping center). They used to load up the sandwiches with plenty of meat. Plus the lettuce was the wilted crap that is best used as a garnish on a plate. And it cost $9.50! Wouldn't mind paying that for a sandwich with meat. My parents have been going to this place for years and years and I have the same love for it. I love the hard sourdough rolls and the heaping amount of meat, cheese, vegis they put in your sandwich. Sandwiches are huge and can easily be split between 2 people. My boyfriend isn't a huge fan of this place only because of the "hard" bread, (my fav) but we still have lunch here pretty frequently. The woman behind the counter is so painfully unpleasant, I almost walked out before we finished ordering! Well, I only wanted half of what comes on the works, so I told her what I didn't want, and when I realized it was half the list, I said, oh, or should I tell you what I DO want on it? Smile, chuckle, grin. Nothing from her. Not even a word. Then my husband didn't know what kind of bread they had. Again, she referred him to the sign on the front of the register without saying a word. Then we asked what kind of roll the wheat roll is. Is it round, long, what? She said, well, we don't have round rolls. Ohmygod, woman! Could we have a LITTLE customer service? Just a little?!?! The food arrived via a young blonde girl who actually smiled... The floor was being swept by a nice guy who wished us a Merry Christmas. PAM, however, was as unpleasant as ever! I'm just dumbfounded as to why she works there. I guess I'm mostly writing this review for the owners... I hope they read these reviews & make some changes. If Pam is working next time I'm there, I will walk out. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the SF Deli!! My husband and I have been going there since we moved up from the Bay Area 5 years ago. We usually go EVERY Wednesday AND Friday for their delicious oak fired, bbq tri-tip sandwiches. We loved their food so much, we had them cater our wedding! The other really great thing I like about the SF Deli, is the selection of extras to add to your sandwiches. If you like it on your sandwich, they probably have it for you, and their warm, fresh sourdough is to die for! I don't know why the guy below gave a bad review just because they messed up on his order. EVERY restaurant messes up once in awhile. Big deal. Besides, I wouldn't be so sure on this guys credibility...his review was rude and immature regarding the staff. They have ALWAYS been great. We see the same people eat there weekly, that tells you something right there. I had been reading mixed reviews for this deli on a Facebook site, so I decided to try it myself, coming from the Bay Area the price really isn't an issue. Many complaints were $9 for a sandwich. Quality breads, toppings, and meats make that a factor. Subway is not much less and not great at all. The sandwich was DELICIOUS fresh sourdough and fresh carved turkey. So good.
