    Pupusa with chicken and pork
    Nick F.

This was my first time having Salvadorian food. This place was not easy to fine but there is plenty of room inside. I was told by my coworkers that this place was pretty good. I've always heard of pupusas but never had a chance to try them until now. I got myself the pork and chicken with cheese pupusas. If you've never had pupusas before, it's like a stuffed pancake, and two is more than enough for a grown man. What also is crucial to have with it is the pickled cabbage and the tomato-based sauce that comes with it. It may seem like a weird combination but it actually works well and complements the dish. My coworkers also ordered pupusas and they also order fried plantains that came with a sour cream dip and what I only assume was a molé sauce. Turns out that sauce was made from a type of bean; nonetheless, I lost a bet and now I owe my coworker a beer LOL. I would have to try some different dishes before I give my full opinion about Salvadorian food. But as of right now I would call it pretty good.

Free starter tortilla strips and beans with cheese! Yum!!

Great tasty salvadorean food. Carne asada chorizo plate is the best! The mixed pupusas are excellent. Restaurant is recently remodeled, super clean, great service. Most soots give you stale chips, this place gives a fried thick tortilla strip with beans and salvadorean cheese. I come just for these bad boys! I'm a huge critic but this place gets me right in my tummy! Two thumbs up!

    Bistec encebollado! Bomb.

I finally made the drive to Downey to try this chicken spot I have been eyeing for monthsssss!…read moreTheir parking lot is located in the back of the restaurant as street parking appears to be limited. They As we are a primarily chicken household, I brought my family with me to try their chicken plates and creative chicken plates. My first initial thought walking into Chicken Koop is that it has calm party vibe... the reason I say this is because through our whole time in the restaurant, they were playing a lot of my favorite songs. For a second, I thought my phone had connected to their speakers, lol! Pictured below is the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the 1/2 Roasted Chicken Plate. The Friend Chicken Sandwich was so juicy and flavorful; the breaded chicken patty had a perfect crunch to it. The 1/2 Roasted Chicken Plate was also another delicious and great choice. The chicken was cooked perfectly- again no dry chicken and it was juicy w a crunchy outer skin. The Brussels sprouts can out perfectly as well.

We ordered takeout and were pleasantly surprised they still accepted our order only 30 minutes before closing. I had the mushroom wrap because it seemed like a healthier option. The vegetables inside were cooked well and nicely seasoned, but the wrap itself was a little dry. It came with a salad, which was a nice addition. I'd still return for the wrap. The garlic fries were really good, and the nachos were nice and saucy. The rice that came with the dinner plate, however, was overcooked and mushy. Overall, a decent experience with a few standout items.

The service is fast and they are very tentative. The dining area is small but they have seating outside. They get very busy at times. The restaurant is pretty loud, it's. It the staff but you can hear everything like people's utensils siting the plate and loud talking, but that is most likely because the location is small so you can hear everything. The parking in front may be hard but they have parking the rear of the location. The prices are responsible and they give large portions, you won't be upset. The buttermilk pancakes are always so good, and the Irish-style country potatoes are delicious and never disappoint. The place itself is small and gets really busy, but if you have a little patience, it's absolutely worth the wait. I've never had a bad experience here, the service is always great, and the waitstaff is consistently friendly and attentive. Parking can be a bit tight during busy hours since it's in a small shared shopping center, but that's a minor trade-off for such great food. Overall, Pop's Cafe is a solid, reliable breakfast spot that we keep coming back to.
