The chef owner greeted us as soon as we entered which I really appreciated. When we walked in, three booths were taken so that looked promising. However, the first red flag though was the chips and salsa. The salsa came in 2 small containers and were half full. The flavor was great though! It also came with beans which were also really good. But my family, we go through at least 2 trays of chips and about 4 bowls of salsa before our entrees hit the table so we knew that this place would be scarce with the salsa. Not good. We asked for more salsa and a lot of it. The waitress, who was really kind, brought one container. So we got less! Later she brought two more and 2 tiny containers of red salsa. She said they ran out of green salsa. How?! The place wasn't even packed! Second red flag was the menu seemed limited and pasta was on the menu. We came for Mexican food, so we want to see those options and combinations. However, the owner also caters so those dishes may be options to boost catering opportunities. Third red flag, we ordered water, but bussing tables was more important than servicing. I ordered enchiladas, my daughter ordered the filete de pescado, and my husband ordered the birria plate. My enchiladas were delicious! One was shredded beef and the other was cheese. I typically do not like shredded beef anything but this was jammin. The rice and beans were also delicious. My husband enjoyed his dish, but my daughter did not like her fish. She said it was undercooked. In summary, the salsa and food flavors are great (minus the undercooked fish), however, the scarce portions and lack of quality service knocked off two stars. read more

Actually just discovered this little gem not too long ago and am glad to have done so. It's super close to my house and they serve pozole and menudo during the week (which is the whole reason I found this spot in the first place)! Great hole in the wall mom and pop Mexican restaurant. Authentic Mexican food, feels like my mom's home cooking. There's no menu, specials are written on wax paper and taped to wall. We had fish tacos, made fresh to order handmade tortillas. 2 sopes also made fresh to order handmade sope! And 2 azteca tacos. I ordered through Door Dash a sope de asada and a sopa de albondigas. I was so disappointed. The asada meat was so dry and some of it was burnt giving the sope a nasty taste and the albondigas soup was so bland with barely any rice, meatballs nor vegetables. It was almost $15 way to pricey for what they serve, it honestly shouldn't cost more than $7 at the most. Mi Burrito mexican Grill has way better albondiga soup flavorful and a good portion for $15. I have been to this place twice...CASH ONLY...they do have an atm however. Overall the place is small but clean. The menu has plenty to choose from at a decent price. We had tacos, chile relleno, and nachos. All were good and average portions. We did not try the desserts however, they do look appetizing maybe next time. The 99cent fish tacos are a solid choice. The service was friendly. I would say that the only bad things about this place are the cash only option, and they do seem to take a bit longer than expected for an order. Every once and a while you get blessed with a hidden gem of a restaurant. Well today was one of those days for me Ladies and Gents. I literally pass by this place almost every day coming from work. Today I decided I would try a taco or two. The lady behind the register tells me "we are know for our Birria". Ok well Birria it is then. This plate comes out piping hot with nice hot consume. Fresh hand made tortillas with nice beans and rice all for eight bucks. My plate was perfect for the current weather conditions. This Chef knows what he is doing and takes great pride in a job well done and it shows in his plates. I can't wait to comeback and explore the menu some more. So glad I came across this place ! It only had 3 reviews but I was already on my 1 hour lunch & figured I should just order my chilaquiles here since the other place close by was closed. It's one of my favorite things to eat. This is a quick hole-in-the-wall, but super authentic. I ordered with 2 over easy eggs & salsa verde. It was def home made!! The salsa was spicy & looked different than it normally does but I liked that since it showed they put their own twist on it. The chips weren't soggy with the sauce which was a good sign, eggs were a little over cooked but flavorful nonetheless. Service here was good. You just order up at the counter. Not a lot of people eat there, most I saw came in & got it to go. They accept credit cards. Also have their on parking lot which is a plus! ;) read more

Stopped here with my mom to have some ceviche de camaron and carne asada tacos. Everything was delicious and the customer service was great.

Whenever my mom wants fresh, well made, flavorful Mexican food and I don't feel like cooking for her, I stop here on the way to her house because 1. La Que Buena Taqueria serves consistently delicious food 2. I can't cook this well, and 3. my whole family loves this place. I've been coming here for some years, through different ownership and different levels of quality in the food, but the comida coming out of the kitchen right now, in 2014, is some of the best Mexican food in this part of Whittier. If it matters, this place is the definition of hole in the wall and really not all that much to look at. If you decide to eat in, know you'll be getting amazing food in a simple eatery with just a few tables in the same room as the kitchen. Don't come here and cry to us about ambience is what I'm getting at. They have some items that stand out like the caldos [pollo, res, albondigas etc], SUPER burritos [exceptionally large, not on the menu, but if you ask they'll make it for you], tortas ahogadas and mexi-crepas! All their meats from grilled chicken, carne asada, al pastor etc are marinated and cooked beautifully. The tortillas are fresh, and the refried beans are to die for. I love love LOVE the Ensenada style fish tacos because they taste authentic to the ones down in Baja and you can get 3 of em with a small drink for $4.99 - such a bargain! :P The food takes a little while to prepare, but it's worth it, and so fresh. The service is always friendly, and the prices are just right. Make sure you specify that you need lime wedges in to go orders, they don't always place em in the bag! read more
