    Tonkotsu Ramen
    RoseMary F.

We were in Orange County and stopped at this restaurant for lunch. We had Sesame Chicken bites, Ahi Poké, Sushi roll and a variety of Sashimi, plus a bowl of my favorite Tonkotsu Ramen. The service was quick and menu choices were good. There was plenty of food for three people to share. It's a good place for lunch or dinner. -Happy hour prices are available from 3pm-6pm, on Wednesday through Friday (closed Monday & Tuesday). -Street parking is available and a nearby public parking lot. Sincerely, Rosemary

Flavio was our server he was training but super helpful and friendly. Had such a delicious lunch with my friend. The spicy tuna crunchy rice was delicious and my friend ordered the tempura california roll. He also gave us vanilla ice cream at the end that was so nice of him. Wasn't very busy when we got here but the food was delicious. Would def come here again to try more, shocked I have never been here before. Thanks to my friend for picking me up and taking us to this delicious sushi place. Would recommend checking it out, good service not great parking but pretty decent size inside and also seating outside as well. Have a beautiful day, be kind to everyone :) Aloha

We were in town and were in the mood for Japanese food. I came across San Sushi on Yelp, and immediately went for them after seeing their menu was quite expansive. We ordered the Jalapeno Albacore appetizer, Mixed Tempura appetizer, the Basic & Beautiful roll, a side of fried rice, and a kids udon. It doesn't sound like a whole lot of food, but it was filling. The kids udon portion was, to our surprise, pretty sizable, and we loved that we were able to share our plates and make a meal out of everything. The service was top notch; our server got our order out in a timely manner, and everything was delicious. The restaurant itself was clean, AC on full blast during the hot summer day we visited, and there were TVs and light jazz playing in the background. I'd consider this a good spot for any occasion; family dinner, date night, dinner out with friends.

Really good sushi, but odd hours of operation. They are closed on Tuesdays, and then close between lunch and dinner on the weekdays, but then are only open for dinner on Saturday, and are open for both lunch and dinner on Sundays. Just pay attention to their hours before heading over. There's limited street parking, with some 15 minute spots, and a senior citizen only spot too. I loved our choices, plus we got a free mini vanilla ice cream scoop at the end of our meal. Loved that too!

Mouthwatering and so FRESH! I ordered the Summer Night & Yellow Tail Roll

Mouthwatering and FRESH!!! I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant I am very pleased

I love this cozy place in old town Placentia! This really is a hidden gem. The sushi is very good, and the portions are also very good! Love the ambience as well, they play 1940s and 50s classics like Ella Fitzgerald. A great place to sit with a friend or a date!

My fiance has talked about San Sushi many times, this has been their go to Sushi place even before we've met! Located in Old Town Placentia, this place is quite charming, has a small mom and pop vibe with friendly staff and expedient service. Being this was my first time and heard so much about it AND I was really hungry, we ordered quite a bit. To begin with, we started with the: *Calamari legs - perfectly fried! I really liked it, tender, flavorful and not gummy. We jumped in right away with the Sashimi and ordered the Sashimi Sampler! not going to beat around the bush but if you want an instant wow, then try this sampler plate! a trio of Tuna, Salmon and Yellow tail, so fresh and delicious, it just melts in your mouth good! oh, one more thing, make sure to order a side of Premium Wasabi with it - you will not regret it - TRUST ME! For the rolls, we ordered: OC Sunset - so good and delicious! I love the generous slice of salmon on top! and this roll isn't small mind you, it's a mouthful! Fire Tempura Roll - I like this a lot but I am still partial to any rolls having a generous amount of fresh fish on top lol Summer Night - I like how fresh and delightful this roll is. A combination of tuna, salmon, yellow tail with Avo & Cucumber - it's like summer in your mouth :P For two people, I think we ordered quite a bit but... we ate it all! I really like San Sushi, good food, friendly service and I love the neighborhood sushi place vibe - definitely in my places to re-visit! Kampai!

Another great meal at San Sushi. Love the music as well. Jatleen also did a great job serving us, had a great sense of humor to put up with me!! Teri loved the Ramen. Also heard they have a new DIY Ramen place at Chapman and Bradford. That will be tomorrow's lunch

Great food for a family outing or date night. Prices very reasonable and they just introduced some new specials. This is our go to.

Our weekly go to! It's reasonably priced, decent quality fish and service is superb. The restaurant is spacious and looks like a local hangout. My husband loves the $3.95 beer special and the Jazz music playing in the background. Our usual faves: Sashimi Special Albacore with crispy onions Zip code Salmon skin roll Spider roll Yellowtail Carpacc We changed it up a little since I was craving udon

I absolutely love the food here ! So fresh and great prices

Always great food, my son is very picky so the owner makes the kids "noodle " dish with ramen instead of udon noodles. Such a friendly environment. Highly recommend

PARKING: This is in Downtown Placentia. Parking is not great here, but I came during a weekday and an off hour, so I found parking right in front of the restaurant. FOOD: ***PORTIONS ARE SMALL*** Keep in mind I only ordered appetizers. $9 MIXED TEMPURA: It was OK. Not terrible, but not good enough for me to come back. Some pieces were crunchy, but most were not fried enough and limp. Something that tempura should not be. $9 CALAMARI LEGS: fried squid, these were fried to crunchy perfection and served with a spicy Mayo aioli. $13 ALBACORE CARPACCIO: I've never seen albacore sliced so thinly in my life at any restaurant. It was my favorite dish that we ordered, but I'm still shocked about how small all the portions were. SERVICE: Was quick & attentive. Not many people in the restaurant when I came, but the staff was wonderful & did their job perfectly. OVERALL: I didn't think it was BAD, but I also think it's at the bottom of my list for Japanese/Sushi restaurants in this area. I came here for this first time because I was passing by it and was short on time. The portions are wayyyy too small. I personally will not be back. They did nothing wrong, I just didn't enjoy it. I also ordered hot tea and even that was not hot. More like a luke warm and was cold before I could finish it. I am not trying to bash this restaurant in any way, this is just my personal opinion on my first experience here.

Kids and pet friendly place with outdoor seating and kids menu options. The complimentary ice cream after eating is a plus. Price is reasonable. Large enough portions. Fish tastes fresh and the sauces are on spot. The outdoor seat was nice even though covered with a bit of dirt.

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.

First of all, parking here is a nightmare. The lot is too small with parking spots that are too narrow. Add to that the fact that a majority of folks who shop here are impaired drivers and...yikes! Inside has always felt chaotic to me with too many shoppers in narrow aisles and checkout lines backing up into aisles, preventing shoppers from getting into them. But it's fairly well stocked & organized and once you've visited once or twice you get a feel for where everything is. On this recent visit I couldn't find a couple of items but did find two things I can't live without: chocolate-covered macadamia nuts and Kewpie mayonnaise. No, I don't eat them together. After putting a few other things in my basket I got in the long line (15 people) to check out at one of the two checkstands open. It took about ten minutes. The cashier was quick and very pleasant once I got there. Aside from their Japanese items they also have products from Hawaii, as well as produce and meat sections. There are also grab-n-go bento boxes that many people come here for. It's not my favorite Japanese store but it's okay.

The Pink Lady was something I had high expectations for, and it was good, but in a very subtle way. I think it would be complemented well with some hot sauce. It kind of reminded me of a crab cake but less salty. It was falling apart, however. The neat part is how the toppings are decided by the chef, and the presentation was there once again. I'm not sure if it's kale that they put in with the rolls, and if it's edible or not. But, I think a little salad wouldn't hurt. Or maybe some pickled radish and carrots. Anyway, I am glad I found and tried this establishment. Although the last time I picked up an order, the employee did not seem to believe my name. So, I had to show her twice that it was indeed mine. Food delivery apps need to do better with showing our name next to the order since neither UE nor DD have that, making it tedious to switch to our profile to display our name, then go back to the order page to prove the transaction.

I came here with my coworkers for lunch after a training session, and I'm glad we decided to give it a try. We started with several appetizers: the Spicy Handmade Wontons, Kimchi, and Shishito Peppers. Everything was excellent. The kimchi was perfectly prepared with just the right amount of seasoning. The flavors enhanced the fermented cabbage without overpowering it. The shishito peppers were lightly flash-fried and seasoned with lemon and salt, giving them a nice balance of flavor and texture. They still retained their natural pepper taste and weren't overly greasy. The spicy handmade wontons were also packed with flavor and made a great start to the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the California Tonkotsu ramen without spice so I could fully appreciate the broth. I'm glad I did because the soup was rich, creamy, and full of depth. The pork was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth. The egg was cooked perfectly, with a soft yolk that complemented the richness of the broth beautifully. Overall, I had a great dining experience. The prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, the service was attentive and friendly, and there was plenty of parking available. Everything from the appetizers to the ramen exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality ramen, and I'll absolutely be back to try more items on the menu!

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great ramen, sushi, and more for everyone!…read more The hubby and I'd learned about this place from a vegan acquaintance and were intrigued enough to make the trek from Long Beach to check it out. Located in an older shopping center, the interior had a clean, pleasant homey traditional Japanese look to it, but it did feel a bit cramped with divider walls. The main attraction for us was their vegan menu, of course, which turned out to be amazingly extensive (they have non-vegan stuff too). Generally, even if a restaurant offers vegan/vegetarian items it feels like a token afterthought, but not here. In addition to the ramen and sushi items we were expecting, there were a bunch we were not, like "meaty" dumplings, fried "shrimp", and "chicken" katsu curry (which I had to try). I was really wowed by this dish; the "chicken" felt like an actual breast meat filet, and the crispy coating was great. The curry was the real star, which had all the right flavors and texture that I remembered. The hubby had the Vegan Ecstasy ramen, which he really enjoyed. It had a delicious creamy broth with broccoli, corn, tofu slices, and delightfully chewy noodles. We also shared a vegan caterpillar roll; couldn't tell what they used for the "eel" (eggplant?), but since the star of caterpillar rolls is the avocado and sauce, it had the right flavor and texture. We were with my non-veg brother and nephew, who shared a salmon roll, CA roll, and spicy pork won tons, which they really liked. According to my brother the wontons were very spicy, with a lot of chili threads on top, so beware. They also gave us some complimentary vegan matcha ice cream at the end (has nuts, fyi), which we thought was a nice touch. The great food, service, and prices so wowed us that we brought my sister and her family here to celebrate some birthdays. I'd called ahead to reserve a table for our party of six, and we were sat at the large semi circle booth at the back. We ordered an assortment of veg and non-veg items and everyone loved the food. This is now our go-to for vegan ramen and Japanese food, especially if we're meeting up with non-veg people.
