Flavio was our server he was training but super helpful and friendly. Had such a delicious lunch with my friend. The spicy tuna crunchy rice was delicious and my friend ordered the tempura california roll. He also gave us vanilla ice cream at the end that was so nice of him. Wasn't very busy when we got here but the food was delicious. Would def come here again to try more, shocked I have never been here before. Thanks to my friend for picking me up and taking us to this delicious sushi place. Would recommend checking it out, good service not great parking but pretty decent size inside and also seating outside as well. Have a beautiful day, be kind to everyone :) Aloha

We were in town and were in the mood for Japanese food. I came across San Sushi on Yelp, and immediately went for them after seeing their menu was quite expansive. We ordered the Jalapeno Albacore appetizer, Mixed Tempura appetizer, the Basic & Beautiful roll, a side of fried rice, and a kids udon. It doesn't sound like a whole lot of food, but it was filling. The kids udon portion was, to our surprise, pretty sizable, and we loved that we were able to share our plates and make a meal out of everything. The service was top notch; our server got our order out in a timely manner, and everything was delicious. The restaurant itself was clean, AC on full blast during the hot summer day we visited, and there were TVs and light jazz playing in the background. I'd consider this a good spot for any occasion; family dinner, date night, dinner out with friends.

Really good sushi, but odd hours of operation. They are closed on Tuesdays, and then close between lunch and dinner on the weekdays, but then are only open for dinner on Saturday, and are open for both lunch and dinner on Sundays. Just pay attention to their hours before heading over. There's limited street parking, with some 15 minute spots, and a senior citizen only spot too. I loved our choices, plus we got a free mini vanilla ice cream scoop at the end of our meal. Loved that too!

Mouthwatering and so FRESH! I ordered the Summer Night & Yellow Tail Roll

Mouthwatering and FRESH!!! I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant I am very pleased

Another great meal at San Sushi. Love the music as well. Jatleen also did a great job serving us, had a great sense of humor to put up with me!! Teri loved the Ramen. Also heard they have a new DIY Ramen place at Chapman and Bradford. That will be tomorrow's lunch

Great food for a family outing or date night. Prices very reasonable and they just introduced some new specials. This is our go to.

My fiance has talked about San Sushi many times, this has been their go to Sushi place even before we've met! Located in Old Town Placentia, this place is quite charming, has a small mom and pop vibe with friendly staff and expedient service. Being this was my first time and heard so much about it AND I was really hungry, we ordered quite a bit. To begin with, we started with the: *Calamari legs - perfectly fried! I really liked it, tender, flavorful and not gummy. We jumped in right away with the Sashimi and ordered the Sashimi Sampler! not going to beat around the bush but if you want an instant wow, then try this sampler plate! a trio of Tuna, Salmon and Yellow tail, so fresh and delicious, it just melts in your mouth good! oh, one more thing, make sure to order a side of Premium Wasabi with it - you will not regret it - TRUST ME! For the rolls, we ordered: OC Sunset - so good and delicious! I love the generous slice of salmon on top! and this roll isn't small mind you, it's a mouthful! Fire Tempura Roll - I like this a lot but I am still partial to any rolls having a generous amount of fresh fish on top lol Summer Night - I like how fresh and delightful this roll is. A combination of tuna, salmon, yellow tail with Avo & Cucumber - it's like summer in your mouth :P For two people, I think we ordered quite a bit but... we ate it all! I really like San Sushi, good food, friendly service and I love the neighborhood sushi place vibe - definitely in my places to re-visit! Kampai!

Our weekly go to! It's reasonably priced, decent quality fish and service is superb. The restaurant is spacious and looks like a local hangout. My husband loves the $3.95 beer special and the Jazz music playing in the background. Our usual faves: Sashimi Special Albacore with crispy onions Zip code Salmon skin roll Spider roll Yellowtail Carpacc We changed it up a little since I was craving udon

I love this cozy place in old town Placentia! This really is a hidden gem. The sushi is very good, and the portions are also very good! Love the ambience as well, they play 1940s and 50s classics like Ella Fitzgerald. A great place to sit with a friend or a date!

I absolutely love the food here ! So fresh and great prices

Always great food, my son is very picky so the owner makes the kids "noodle " dish with ramen instead of udon noodles. Such a friendly environment. Highly recommend

Kids and pet friendly place with outdoor seating and kids menu options. The complimentary ice cream after eating is a plus. Price is reasonable. Large enough portions. Fish tastes fresh and the sauces are on spot. The outdoor seat was nice even though covered with a bit of dirt.

PARKING: This is in Downtown Placentia. Parking is not great here, but I came during a weekday and an off hour, so I found parking right in front of the restaurant. FOOD: ***PORTIONS ARE SMALL*** Keep in mind I only ordered appetizers. $9 MIXED TEMPURA: It was OK. Not terrible, but not good enough for me to come back. Some pieces were crunchy, but most were not fried enough and limp. Something that tempura should not be. $9 CALAMARI LEGS: fried squid, these were fried to crunchy perfection and served with a spicy Mayo aioli. $13 ALBACORE CARPACCIO: I've never seen albacore sliced so thinly in my life at any restaurant. It was my favorite dish that we ordered, but I'm still shocked about how small all the portions were. SERVICE: Was quick & attentive. Not many people in the restaurant when I came, but the staff was wonderful & did their job perfectly. OVERALL: I didn't think it was BAD, but I also think it's at the bottom of my list for Japanese/Sushi restaurants in this area. I came here for this first time because I was passing by it and was short on time. The portions are wayyyy too small. I personally will not be back. They did nothing wrong, I just didn't enjoy it. I also ordered hot tea and even that was not hot. More like a luke warm and was cold before I could finish it. I am not trying to bash this restaurant in any way, this is just my personal opinion on my first experience here.

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.

Ages ago, during Titan-con, the anime/nerd convention run by the college, my friends and I decided to grab some ramen here. I could barely fit in the car since I couldn't take the Oda Nobunaga hat off of my head without taking off the wig, so that was a very hilarious memory. We came slightly before the weekend lunch rush so we didn't have to wait, but I can see this place getting super busy and fisted. There's bar counter seating (which we got) that surrounds the entire kitchen area and a decent amount of tables, but knowing people's love for ramen, and how a lot of the OC is a hellscape, it can get quite fisted. Service was friendly and welcoming, being in such a busy area and near a college, I'm sure staff have seen and experienced much more and polite people in cosplay weren't too much of a shock. I got their Aka Ramen which is made from kara (spicy) miso. Comes with 2 pieces of chashu and a seasoned soft boiled egg. I'm not a fan of beansprouts, so I made sure to donate this to a friend. Nice rich miso broth, and like many Japanese restaurant places (that don't have the ability to super build and customize), it has a slight heat, but not super spicy in the slightest. Noodles are thin style and had a nice texture to it that went well with the broth. Overall, not bad.

We also love their grab-and-go hot lunch options and the food bar, they're convenient, delicious, and a highlight of every visit. On our most recent trip, we met a vendor from Morinaga & Company who was fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and introduced us to some great products. We ended up stocking up on Hi-Chews and Chargel because of their recommendations. Unfortunately, our checkout experience during our visit on June 27, 2026, at approximately 12:30 PM left a bad impression. There was a miscommunication between the Morinaga vendor and Tokyo Central regarding a promotion. The vendor was advertising a deal that allowed the discounted pricing even with mix-and-match Chargels, but when we got to the register, the pricing didn't match. We completely understand that miscommunications happen, and the pricing itself wasn't really the issue. What was disappointing was how the situation was handled by the Tokyo Central staff. Our cashier, Irene, did apologize for the confusion as we were leaving, which I appreciated. However, the male assistant manager who came over never introduced himself, never acknowledged us directly, and handled the situation with very little professionalism. The young female bagger was equally disappointing. Earlier, we witnessed another customer ask her a question, and she responded with little more than a grunt. Again, I'm not expecting over-the-top friendliness, but basic courtesy and respectful communication should be the standard. It was especially surprising because Japan is so well known for its exceptional customer service, and that's part of what many customers associate with shopping at Japanese markets. I hope management uses this as a coaching opportunity and invests in additional customer service training because the store itself is excellent, and the products keep us coming back. I'd love for the service to consistently match the quality of everything else Tokyo Central has to offer.

It turned what could have been a simple dinner into a memorable experience from the moment I sat down. I ordered the sashimi plate, and it was absolutely outstanding--fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly well-priced for the quality. What impressed me most was the honesty of the staff. I was considering ordering a larger portion, but they actually talked me out of it because they knew I wouldn't finish it. They were right. That small gesture showed me they cared more about giving me a great experience than squeezing a few extra dollars out of my wallet. That kind of customer service is rare these days. What makes this experience even more memorable is that I had just come from X Fish Izakaya, where I spent nearly an hour waiting to be seated while watching people who arrived after me get seated first. I left feeling frustrated and completely overlooked. Walking into Chubby Sushi was the exact opposite experience. Here, I felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. As if the food and service weren't enough, on my way out I met a well-known food reviewer and even got the chance to hold a giant tuna head that Chubby Sushi had on display for a photo. It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great night unforgettable. Sometimes a bad experience leads you exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm genuinely glad X Fish Izakaya dropped the ball because it led me to discover Chubby Sushi. This wasn't just a great meal--it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and one I'll remember for years to come. I'll definitely be back.
