We'd never been before so asked for suggestions even though i had the idea i wanted a pistachio latte as i am a lover of all things pistachio... let me tell you, that thing SMACKED so hard! Probably 1 of top 5 coffee I've ever had. My fiancé tried the Sanaa latte and that was also really good. The pistachio milk cake, caramel milk cake and honey comb were all really flavorful and good too. So many people came in here to work/study on their laptops and for the most part it was pretty quiet. I didn't see many people sitting and chatting more folks quietly working but who know, could have just been a coincidence. Will definitely make this my go to when I'm around this area. Brand new, beautifully adorned cafe on the corner of 8th and Broadway, with an extensive variety of authentic Yemeni pastries, coffee, and tea, among other drinks. The cafe employee is very helpful in recommending drink and pastry pairings; I ended up ordering a small hot Mofawar Coffee with a pistachio milk cake as recommended by the employee. Mofawar coffee: made fresh and is served VERY hot! I had to uncap my lid for it to cool down because it was still piping hot after 10 minutes of waiting. The cardamom complements the coffee well, and the cream and (optional) sugar help to balance out the strong coffee. Pistachio milk cake: very mild, soft, nutty, and milky! the cake sits in a puddle of pistachio infused milk. With the strong cardamom-spiced coffee, the milk cake does really well to create even more balance between cool and hot, bitter and sweet, fluffy and fluid, nutty and citrusy. There is also ample seating and outlets throughout the restaurant + Free Wi-Fi--great for those who need to study or work remote! For a casual meeting or chat, there are also cushioned group seating in the back of the store near the restrooms. OMG. This cafe is so pretty! Decorated really nice! I always look for coffee everywhere I go and I'm glad I found this place. We ordered 4 different Fatayer which are triangles of heaven: Spinach Feta, Spinach, Beef, and Cheese. The pistachio latte was delicious. The staff is friendly and seem to care about the customers. Stopped by during the soft opening and we tried an assortment of goodies. The staff were super friendly and the coffee was delicious! I could definitely see myself coming in again and again. They have a great variety of food and snacks, including an assortment of flavors of milk cakes, which I was excited about because they're some of my favorite treats. I was looking for an afternoon dessert pick me up. Not coffee because this Yemeni coffee is very strong and I'd be up past midnight. They have a selection of freshly baked cake, still in the faberware pans and some Turkish delight.. I selected a rose petal topped/ rose pink color cake which reminded me of a tree Leche cake. And nougat rolled in crushed pistachio. I was throughly disappointed in the Turkish delight. It seemed stale. I was back and forth on making this review because it really comes down to the service of one person. The gentleman taking the orders on Sunday was extremely rude. I came in to order a coffee and even down to using a visa gift card he said that if i use it, it will "make things more difficult for him" since he would swipe it and not do tap to pay. Then he also didn't make one of the teas we ordered so when we had the rest of the order ready we followed up and he proceeded to snap back saying "can you just give me a minute" on top of that he was rude to his coworker, a woman who was very nice. I just do not like the experience of that gentleman working. He really made it a completely unpleasant experience. Walk in and make your way to the counter to order. Menu features Yemeni drinks and hot/cold espresso drinks. You can also order a small, medium, or large pot if you plan to stay awhile. Drinks can be enhanced with honey or an extra shot, at an additional cost. There is also an entire display of savory and sweet bites with Middle East influences. Adeni chai - Yemeni black tea, cardamom, nutmeg, and cream. I ordered this iced as it was a hot day. Complex flavor that was vibrant but a bit strong are the cardamom for my personal palette. I was walking past this venue and decided to stop in to try after seeing some of the specialized coffees, teas and desserts that they have. Ordered the Yemeni tea and got additional items to go: slice of rose milk cake $7, slice of saffron milk cake$7, beef fatayer (mince meat pie) $5, and a piece of dubai chocolate $10. When I saw a small sign that they make chocolate dubai strawberry dessert, fresh daily and asked about it, the owner was kind enough to give me a small serving to try. Everything I tried here was balanced and had the right amount of sweetness and spices or flavoring. They make their coffees and teas on the stovetop right after you order, so don't expect things to be as quick as Starbucks or Peet's. For dine in you can also get a small or large pot of coffee here. Which is perfect for sharing with friends or for helping you power through a session of computer work you have to get done. They're open early to late and have plenty of seating and outlets, with wifi and restrooms for customers, in a brightly lit and nicely designed space. You'll observe many drinks with evaporated milk and flavors of cardamom, rose, and savory, sweet desserts with phyllo, pistachio. They also offer a variety of fusion items and so far have tried: MAFOWAR - first time trying this coffee - deep flavor of ginger, distinct cardamom with evaporated milk for creaminess. This was a bit strong (almost medicinal) and definitely an acquired taste. It was a bit overwhelming for me and can be for those not used to it. My new favorite dessert place in Oakland! I know this is a coffee shop, but I opted for more desserts instead of a drink from this place. From their cakes, to baklava, to their honeycomb bread, everything was SUPER tasty, unique and honestly worth every penny. They also open late into the night, so if you found this place because you are looking for a pick me up, please do yourself a favor and grab a dessert item too. They also provided great service, I couldn't decided between the baklava flavors so they just gave one to me for free. I legit came back here twice back to back! Added notes: I don't normally judge restaurants for their decor/interior, but I love the inside of this coffee shop, they really transformed the old starbucks space. The latte was delicious, but unfortunately it was mistakenly made with real milk instead of oat milk. I am completely dairy free due to having a strong reaction to the point of needing medical care if it is consumed and became sick from drinking this. I would get it again but watch to make sure the right milk is used. I understand that accidents happen but because this caused me to become very sick I am disappointed by the incident. Since it's 8 in the morning I didn't order any pastries, but I will definitely check it out next time. The drink I ordered was the iced pistachio latte and it is a solid choice. The pistachio flavor comes from a pistachio paste that they line the cup with not artificial pistachio flavoring. The latte has strong coffees flavors that paired really well with the pistachio. It is definitely on the sweeter side so if you don't like sweet drinks, you might want to adjust the sugar levels. Walked in impromptu while in the area with staff welcoming customers in. It was a bit chaotic when I was entering (still rush hour commute time), but staff were friendly and accommodating. I was offered a free piece of cake too - which helps elevate the first-timer experience. What I really like about this Yemeni cafe is that they have small pots of coffee/tea available - along with cute drinkware. I like to order my pots of tea, but often at other counterparts in the area their smaller pots are still too big for one person!
