My mom lives here so she's been quite a few times with my step dad and his company so she was excited to take me as she knows I like water view restaurants and she's never had any complaints until our visit. First when we pulled up the smell from the dead fish on the beach was awful and we were going to find somewhere else to go but I knew my mom was excited for me to check this place out so I told her if we walked to the upstairs part and it didn't smell we should stay! This is not at all the fault of the business though because there was red tide and beach volunteers could actually be seen below trying to clean up the mess. We got up there and with a nice breeze we actually couldn't smell anything so we sat down *this was after stopping at the host stand downstairs to ask if it was okay to sit up there as well*. We sat at the rail overlooking the beach and my mom went to find somebody to ask if they were bar only or did they do lunch as well since no one came out to greet us and that's when we met Summer. I don't know if she thought my mom was trying to be rude by coming up to her, but she replied kind of crappy like duh we serve lunch. From there it was all down hill. We both ordered mixed drinks and a water. Drinks come back like 10 minutes later- no waters- and I'm not even sure what I drank is what I ordered but it took long enough as it was so I wasn't going to say anything- not that I really had a chance. That's when she took our food orders and we put in an app as well and then never saw her again until she delivered all our food. My mom and I were there to hang out with each other so food and app coming out at the same time didn't really matter to us but when we ordered I wanted to save her some steps and ordered sour cream with my quesadillas and my mom asked for extra dressing for her salad that she gets every time she comes here. When she dropped off our food we had to ask for it again but this time Summer told my mom they've never had that dressing so my mom asked for a different kind and Summer responded with that's weird but okay. Came back with our sides and set them at the end of the rail, which actually made me laugh and then told us she was leaving so her manager would be taking over. I had to go to the downstairs bartender and ask for waters and he looked puzzled and asked if I was sitting up stairs. I go back up after finding some salt and pepper and utensils with our waters and my mom and I just start laughing. We both have worked service industry and I still bartend, so we're the first to make excuses for crappy service and have the utmost empathy for servers and bartenders, but Summer suckkkked. She acted like we were an inconvenience the entire time. I can't imagine the couple drinking at the other end of the rail are what slowed her down, maybe she was eager to do her side work and gtfo, idk?! I don't even care about steps of service just put some food and booze in front of us with that view and we're usually happy, but her attitude was awful. I don't know if she actually transferred us to a manger but nobody came over to table touch and introduce themselves. We decided to leave and get drinks elsewhere so we went up to Coco beach pier where we had a really funny bartender and I got to enjoy my mom a little longer before my flight back to Cincy. read more

The absolute worst service you will EVER experience. The server was attentive... the kitchen was comatose even though the restaurant was DEAD. They charged $130 for half of what was ordered. We order Umami sushi while we were waiting for our order. They are all location and no soul. Please avoid at all cost, especially when you have a big party (more than 2 people, we had 4). Really disappointed in this place. Service was slow but there were several large groups which I will let slide. Biggest disappointment was food quality and price. Had small oysters, flat iron steak that was absolutely covered/ drowning in chimichurri (terrible for nearly $25 - it was served in chunks), and blackened (hahahaha) mahi that was covered in mango/pineapple salsa served over cheap ass rice for another $21. Great place for the atmoshpere, outside upstairs deck faces the beach. Perfect for relaxing & cocktails during sunset, or come during sunrise for breakfast. Their seafood tacos were a lil above average. There is a beach volleyball court right by it too. read more

Totally enjoy the atmosphere, great music and beautiful beach views. The food is good. The service is unbelievably slow. It took over 30 minutes to get our food despite it not being packed. They had people running around constantly, but just no one ever comes to the tables. The server we had, Ashley was super nice. Like even if I literally sit down before someone else they'll go to the people after me instead of me. The food is fucking disgusting and expensive as hell. The atmosphere is why you eat here. Great location and look out over the beach...maybe catch a volleyball game at the same time. I like the shrimp tacos. Also, their shredded pork taco is awesome but the shrimp is easier on my stomach so I tend to order that all the time. Worst breakfast experience I've ever had. We showed up at 10:15 from Sunday brunch. We were directed upstairs to our table and placed our order for breakfast at 10:20. We sat there with empty mimosa and orange juice glasses and no water until 11:30 (over an hour later). When we finally asked the waitress about our food, we were explained there was a large party and our food would be out shortly. We also asked for refills and water. We waited another 30 minutes and did not see our waitress again for any of the requests. Our food finally came...cold and without utensils. Another 15 minutes for utensils and still no refills on drinks. The syrup for our waffles didn't even arrive before we were fully fed up and walked out. After explaining our poor experience to a manager, we were simply met with the excuse of a large party and that he would "take care of our bill" that we didn't even eat. Lastly, while waiting for our food, the manager directed a smoker to smoke near our table instead of having her walk outside. She refused to move and stated that she was entitled to smoke there. We explained our frustration to the manager (my girlfriend is asthmatic) and he stated that he can't ask her to move either. The absolute worst dining experience I've ever had. read more

Horrible! Went for the $9.95 all-you-can-eat brunch buffet, but was disappointed in many ways! The food quality of the buffet was poor. Everything was either bland, poorly cooked, or not fresh. When we got our check we noticed that our waitress charged us $4.50 EACH for 3 orange juices. The problem is, when we ordered the juice, she didn't ask us what size we wanted, nor did we know we had an option because it wasn't on the menu. If we knew a large oj was half the cost of our brunch, we would have ordered the small. When we explained this to our waitress & asked for reconciliation, she gave us major attitude, took $5 bucks cash out of her tip stash & slammed it on our table. At this point we were more bothered by her horrible attitude. We asked to speak to the manager, who ended up resolving the situation by comping the 3 oj's completely. Wouldn't go back. Great location, but horribly inconsistent food. How does one screw up (what is probably frozen) coconut shrimp? Ask these guys. Total tourist trap kind of place, and doesn't even have good live music. Sub-Meh, at best. Edit: I went back two times since my last visit and both were terrible. One star is a blessing for a rating on this place. On one visit myself and four others ordered beers, and we got one Bloody Mary, One Rum and Coke, and two beers. This order took 15 minutes to get, when the bar area had around 12 people in it. BAD! The next order was just as late, and almost just as wrong. Instead of four beers, someone got another Rum and Coke. Are the order machines damaged? Is it part of the beginning of a robot takeover, and the first step is to get everyone as mad as possible over screwed up drink orders so that we don't realize the robots are taking over SkyNet? I don't know...I just think it is a problem with hiring and retaining good talent. On my most recent visit I paid my bill and left with my gf, leaving another couple behind. The bartender approached them and said I had not paid my bill, and our friend had to pay my bill. He stumbles drunk into my house demanding the $20 bucks he had to pay the bartender, ruining what I was hoping to be a quiet night in with some daring sex acts thrown in the mix. After I was done beating him senseless with a table leg we realized that the bartender said he did not pay his bill, and I did not, making both of us pay twice. Again, where do they get their point-of-sales systems, Bargain Bills Shitty Restaurant Supply House? So, yeah...another crappy night and a epic cock-block by the staff. Another couple things: Why would you have a pool table that many people can use and then replace it with some dumb-ass novelty exercise bike that blends drinks when it will only really be used once or twice a month? I worked in bars and nightclubs for years and anytime someone proposed this type of thing to me my bullshit detector would go up immediately since it is the same principle as watching Faces of Death while on acid. Yeah, the first few minutes is cool and new, but in a very short time it becomes an experience you want to stop and forget about forever. The location can't be beat. Not many restaurants right on the beach in our area. I had my dog with me in a stroller. Most outdoor restaurants will seat you with a small dog. But we were seated off to one side, away from the rest of the tables, in an area where there was no beach view -- the primary reason I brought my out-of-town friend here. The ONLY thing this place has going for it is the fact it's right on the beach -- food was terrible, service not so great, and the prices are too high for the poor quality. If you want to have someone partially fry some frozen Sysco hashbrowns, pour some scrambled "eggs" mix out on the grill, and pull a few slimy melon chunks out of the fridge and call it a seasonal fruit cup, there you go: Sand on the Beach has you covered. Also, if looking at a young woman's belly button or butt cheeks hanging out the bottom of her shorts if your idea of good service, again, they've got you covered here.. I wish I could say something nice about this restaurant (I really do!), but I can't... As others have posted here, it's a waste of a perfectly good location. You're better off grabbing something from the Friendly Toast, or the Sand Bar if it's lunch time, and just walking down to the beach to eat. read more

Nice bar on the beach you really can't ask for a better location and the view is making. I never seen this place before and my girlfriend and I decided to stop in for a few drinks. We walked up and sat down my girl friend ordered a Piña Colada, which to me seemed a little bit more pricey for what was in it, artificial mix and a shot, if that for 8$...I did enjoy their beer selection, their bottle selection wasn't much and the draft had a few good micros on tap. Our bartender was nice, didn't really go out of the way to converse with anyone except co workers. The atmosphere was bland, the view was amazing, but there was just stuff missing that could have made the experience a whole lot better, more selection of alcohol, bigger bottle list, more authentic drinks...etc. Things like this can help certain aspects of someone is coming off the beach to have a drink. read more

Sitting up on the second floor deck looking at the blue water with a cold adult beverage is a perfect way to spend a couple lazy hours on the beach. Looked like a great place for a beer and lunch on the beach. We sat upstairs overlooking the beach beautiful, waited for service then decided to go inside for a menu and ordered a beer at the bar went back outside. Then the waitress came out and asked us if we had ordered drinks we said yes we went to the bar but the people next to us needed a menu and drinks. She replied I only asked one question not the extra information and walked away. The people next to us got up and left and so did we. My wife and I used to love when Boomerang's was in this location, and used to go once a week. We really were looking forward to trying Djon's new place. Once we got seated in an acceptable booth, we waited 20 minutes without service. The place was only half full, so I guess it was an oversight, although others who came after us received service. Anyway, we just left. Reminds me of the inferior service and inconsistent quality of City Tropics. We will try Djon's Chop House tonight. We had a good time there once. Never mind. I am not one to complain, this is only my second review ever made. We were sat in the lower restaurant area. We were forgotten about and waited 15 minutes to order drinks. This should of been our wanting to run away. But we stuck it out. Service was horrible. Food was not brought out together, ordered some fires had to track a person down for ketchup. Definitely enjoyed this spot on the beach. First off, the view is spectacular; Melbourne beach is already adorable to begin with but having a cushy spot to nosh makes it that much better. Love that they have natural life around the restaurant, too (trees/plants). The prices are a bit steep but you get a huge portion so it may be worth it, depending what you order.
