Real good quality Chinese dishes, some are rare even back in my Asia home town nowadays. Highly recommend to try the ones that require ordering in advance, those are the ones that are harder to get anywhere else. Many of the dishes we tried were right on, both on the taste, textures and presentation. I'd highly recommend the Deep Fried Taro Tossed w/ Sugar 反沙芋 (a very rare traditional dish), Chicken Wings w/ Glutinous Rice 糯米釀雞翼, Chicken Skin Spread w/ Shrimp Paste 江南百花雞, and Minced Meat & Vegetables in Egg White Pancake w/ pumpkin soup 石榴球. We can tell the chef put his heart into the dishes. Family style friendly service. If this place is in a more well known location, I'm sure it would be very popular. Unexpectedly tucked in a strip mall is this little unassuming family ran business that is serving up big flavors in their AUTHENTIC CANTONESE dishes. The chef and his wife who runs the front of house are both extremely humble and sweet. He was classically trained in Macau many years ago and brought his talent over to the states. Some of these dishes are rare today as fewer and fewer chefs have the knowledge and skill to cook such meals. A hidden treasure in Irwindale which is only 15 min local drive from Arcadia. The rack of lamb is tender with spicy garlic. A must order! The spicy saucer chicken is unforgettable. Love Sands!! Heard it from the Asian auntie grapevine that this gem existed near us. Since my husband grew up in 626, he was always a bit picky of Chinese restaurants and we'd always drive back to SGV or Arcadia for food so we're glad we discovered Sands! The chef came from Macau and it's sooo authentically good. They have a slow start because I think they opened right before pandemic, but I'm really hoping they get more business. Aside from the solid staples of popcorn chicken and beef chow fun, they have a lot AMAZING dishes that you HAVE to call to reserve ahead of time, dishes you would expect in a nice sit down Chinese restaurant (see photos). The most notable that I never even heard of except in Hong Kong was the sticky rice INSIDE of a deboned roast duck. It was sooo good, not too mushy just the right moistness for sticky rice and the roast duck had crispy skin and wasn't too oily/fatty. And the rack of lamb was super good too, like popcorn chicken but with lamb. We come here for comfort food and for a nicer sit down if we reserve dishes ahead of time - they do it all! I'm pretty sure it's a family that runs it and they're very sweet with good service every time. I would give more than 5 stars if I could! An unassuming Chinese restaurant located in an unassuming location. This is a good example of don't judge the book by its cover. We went here for a 11-course Lunar New Year dinner and it blew us away. The owners are from Macau and someone who worked in the restaurant industry highly recommended this place. Each food was made with care and high quality ingredients, super delicious, and had nice presentation. The special duck claypot was phenomenal. They put sticky rice stuffing inside the roasted duck with special sauce. Other dishes like the tofu, crab, oyster, shrimp, and fish were so good too. Their special fried milk dessert was everyone's favorite and a perfect end to the feast. The only thing I wasn't too crazy abt was the candied sweet potatoes, at that time they were not cooked enough so still too crunchy and raw. Wanted some Chinese food so went ahead and gave Sands a try since I never been there. I checked their menu online ahead and found some interesting items that you need to order ahead. The food and photos look promising. I came in with high hope. Since it was my first time, I ordered two items to-go to "test" this restaurant. I ordered a chicken entry and a lunch special to see what included. The food came out quick and the person taking the order is polite, so the extra star for this reason alone. 1. The chicken entry pass the test drive but nothing surprising. I ordered the whole size, and it is placed in two separate Togo boxed. (Steamed chicken with spicy sauce). 2. The second item fail horribly! The lunch special (fish filet) is the same price as the entry but it comes with a choice of rice/fried rice and lemon water/corn soup. Although it comes with rice/drink, the portion of the main entry is very small. When I said small, it is literally really small. Perhaps 1/5 the size of normal entry I usually have in the valley. However, portion size is never my main concern if taste is great. Unfortunately, the taste is not up to par. It's just similar to those you can get at Chinese supermarket take out. ********Plus, I was horrify that there was hair deep in the fried rice. It is the first time in my life I found hair in my food, So I AM SHOCK and started to puke. ******* I double check and confirmed it isn't my hair. And since it was stacked between the rice, I'm sure the hair came with the food from the restaurant. I feel really upset, especially when I have high hope. Wow, what a hidden gem in the city of Irwindale!! We passed by the city (easy access of Fwy 605/10 btw) and decided that we wanted to grab a quick dinner before hitting back on the road again, and this little gem has greeted us in an amazing way where we were expecting the p-chains type of food but boy were we wrong! The place is very clean and comfy where a group of us can have a nice conversation without any interruptions. The waitress is very attentive by giving us water as soon as we sat down and had introduced their speciality when we asked for recommendation. We had tried the spicy chicken in which we have never have anything that's close to as delicious as this one! Their special sauce of this specific chicken dish is definitely Michelin-star rating as we had tried a lot of the similar dish in the SGV, and nothing else even comes close to this one! It's not too spicy but would give you the kick of just what you needed it to be!! I have also included the picture on the post but trust me, the picture doesn't do its justice! Beside this delicious cold plate, we have also ordered the lamb rack. The chef makes it so tender and juicy which is rare to find at other restaurants where the chef here is able to find the right balance in between the two as it is very easily to get this dish overcooked and this one is just right and is very flavorful! Other dishes are very delicious as well, not as oily as you may find in the other Chinese food. Even for a simple dish like vegetable, the way that the chef has stir-fried makes it very flavorful that I have cleaned up the entire dish and I'm not a veggie person! All in all, the price point is definitely pocket friendly, so I would highly recommend this restaurant as you can pay for what you would normally pay at an average joe's restaurant but could enjoy a Michelin star type of meal here ! Who'd expect to find one of the SGV's best Chinese restaurants amongst all the rock quarries in Irwindale? I guess that's why Sands is so under the radar. Unbelievable that they've been open for two years and neither I nor anyone I know has heard of them. Didn't get to try any of their advance order items, but everything we had off of the regular was great. This is one of the few SGV Chinese restaurants that has premium advance order dishes, more commonly seen in the Bay Area. The food here is delicious and the service is excellent. If you are reading this review, don't wait, try this place! I ordered 4 dishes: -chicken basil (very flavorful) -half chicken with ginger and green onion (wow chicken was juicy, tender, fresh, and we finished it all) -green beans non spicy (not salty, not oily, really delicious) -fish fillet in red sauce (THIS WAS MY FAVORITE!!) The lunch special comes with corn soup and white rice or fried rice. I picked the fried rice. The price here is on the higher side because the quality of the food is excellent. This is not a cheap chinese to go place but high quality food with sit down tables. They also have a menu for pre order/ need to make reservation first since it is a "special" menu. The crisp on the honey spicy chicken was perfect giving a fantastic crunchy base for the excellent sauce. The green beans were excellently cooked and liberally seasoned with garlic and bits of chicken. I plan to return and try the reservation only speciality dishes. The food here is not cheap. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner tonight. We made a reservation for tonight, and were welcomed with wonderful service. There are special food items that required us to call in beforehand, so that it could be specially prepared for this dinner. There was a delicious stuffed braised duck. We also ordered the steamed thousand layer tofu, pipa tofu, the stuffed chicken wings, braided pork belly, water spinach, and the house special rack of lamb. They were all great and it was clear to see the amount of craftsmanship that went into preparing these dishes. It was all seasoned and balanced perfectly! Great find!! I was craving non-"takeout" Chinese food without having to venture to Arcadia from Duarte, and was really excited to find this place after seeing pictures of their plates. We ordered Curry Chicken, Beef Chow Fun, & Deep Fried Tofu, and picked up our food within 20min of placing our order online --the food was hot and delicious! Similar to May Mei's (美味) in Arcadia.
