    King Louie on Sweet
    Adam B.

So like when did subs start costing $21.67? It's not like this is some fancy carvery where they smoke pastrami in-house and slice large chunks to order. It's just your typical offering of deli meats and cheeses and along with some chicken (grilled or breaded). Tastes alright, about what you'd expect in a sub, but seems a bit overpriced. King Louie on Sweet: I asked for a recommendation of what's popular and was steered in this direction. It seemed to be cordon bleu inspired with breaded chicken, ham and swiss cheese. Though the breaded chicken was kinda weird, seemed like diced chicken tenders that occasionally had some gristle... whole cutlets would have been better. While it looked big, it actually didn't seem overly meaty, with the lettuce giving it a lot of the height. It was decent, but not anything I'd insist all my colleagues try. Italian Jungle on Sourdough: The Italian is usually my go to by default since I like the variety of meats and it's more exciting than the typical turkey, ham and roast beef cold cuts. This one was $19.95 and not $21.67; I suspect they didn't charge tax since it wasn't toasted. The meat and veggie combo was nice with mortadella (bougie bologna), prosciutto (bougie ham) and some other nice Italian meats. It actually felt more substantive than the King Louie, since those Italian meats with the provolone are richer than chicken tender bits. Main complaint though is that it was too bready. It was indeed a nice sourdough, but very thick and very chewy. I kinda felt like a chipmunk with filled cheeks just chewing and chewing and chewing. Brass Monkey on Wheat: This one was $21.67. It's a weird name for a pretty basic meatball sub. It was a tad dry. I totally get that you don't want the other extreme of so much sauce that the bread gets soggy and falls apart, but I feel there was a lot of latitude here to add more sauce than just the light spread. The meatballs were alright, the squishy kind, not the homemade crumbly kind. Had provolone by default, but might have been better with stringy mozzarella. Also, the wheat tasted weirdly a little sweet.

I happen to walk in because they put a sign out on the sidewalk and I'm always looking for new places to eat since I work down the street. Everything was fine. My order took a little long and it didn't seem crowded at all, but they did offer me free chips or a drink to compensate. Sandwich was delicious and I did enjoy it and I'm happy to have a place nearby to go to for lunch.

    Angry Chicken on Dutch Crunch

Found a sandwich shop within steps from my workplace. Their Mango Sweets Tea is delicious. Decent sandwiches and fairly priced. Falls in the Togos class of sandwich shops. Got an Angry Chicken on Dutch Crunch Roll. My only complaint is roll had no crunch and the combo price is set slightly above other sandwich shops. Staff is actively busy even when the crowds are slow which shows me they care about the business. If I find myself not in the mood for a sandwich, I will definitely swing by to buy a Mango Sweet Tea.

Good sized sandwich for the price point. Not sure if I'd pay $21 for a large sized. Service was very good! Gave solid recommendations and greeted as soon as I entered. Would for sure go back. Got the Italian jungle sandwich. Would get again as well but probably won't since there are so many solid looking options.

Fresh, fast, and full of flavor--Sandwich Monkey is my new go-to sandwich spot in San Francisco! Tucked into a clean and modern space, this place is all about quality ingredients, affordable prices, and plenty of options. The sandwich I had was stacked with fresh veggies, tender meat, and nestled in soft, hearty oat wheat bread--just one of several tasty bread choices they offer. What really impressed me was the attention to freshness. Every bite tasted crisp and clean, like it was made just for me (because it was!). The menu is straightforward but full of flavor combinations that will please any kind of sandwich lover. Plus, the drink and snack selection rounds out a perfect quick lunch. The vibe inside is casual and welcoming, with plenty of room to dine in or grab and go. The staff was friendly, efficient, and clearly takes pride in what they do. Bonus points for how tidy and well-organized everything is--from the prep counter to the seating area. If you're in SF and need a reliable, delicious, and budget-friendly sandwich spot, Sandwich Monkey is the move. Will definitely be back!

But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Service is good and ambiance is a small humble shop on the corner of 12th Ave.

Double pastrami, horseradish, havarti, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, and pepperoncini. A lot going on, and it all came together. The horseradish and havarti gave it enough personality to stand apart from a standard pastrami sandwich, and the garlicky mayo tied everything together. The one casualty of DoorDash was sogginess by the time it arrived. That's not a knock on the sandwich, it's just the reality of ordering something like this for delivery. At $14.50 it's a hearty sandwich at a fair price. I'd recommend it, but eat in.
