I didn't have such a good experience as some of the other reviewers on here. After ordering my take out, the owners asked if I would like to pay with cash or check just as I was pulling out my ATM card. (Personally, it's easier for me to keep track of my money when I use my card.) They seemed annoyed that I had no idea they didn't have a credit machine. Hello, first visit. Anyways, much to my own annoyance, I had to walk two blocks to the Wells Fargo to get some cash, paying a nice little 3-dollar bank fee in the meantime. *eye roll* They weren't very friendly at all. When I get home and open my little white sack, I find out I'm missing a side that was paid for. The bread and fixings were good, but the meat was so salty, I couldn't muster the stuff down. Yes, there ARE planes hanging from the ceiling, and lots of cool WWII memorabilia. And there IS a well dressed gentleman who makes adorable jokes. But THE SANDWICHES are the thing. The photos here look more bland than they actually are, which is a shame. I had a vegetarian on a soft roll, and it was nearly technicolor green in its freshness- full of soft ripe avocado, sprouts, and cucumbers. Simple, and tasty. Around $6, too, which was a good deal considering the size. My partner had a sandwich so crammed full of meat- pastrami, and the like- on a sourdough that he raved about, too. With WWII and airplane memorability all over the walls, this felt like a local place in overdrive. The service was friendly and fast, and the sandwiches were plenty filling. No one was wearing masks, not even employees. Which is a little sketchy right now. No way to social distance with diners eating in the restaurant, even though I'm pretty sure dine in eating is closed in the entire state. The lady making the food was man handling it. I saw her touch food containers, grab bags that were under the cashier's arm and bag up orders then touch fresh lettuce and produce and make several orders but never once washed her hands. Then I saw her put a spoonful of sour cream on something and use her finger to get the sour cream off the spoon. It was super busy, but I just don't get why basic food safety wasn't taken into consideration. The cashier was filling drinks, taking orders, using pens that customers used, he even when out the door to maybe an outside fridge to get back stock. Never washing hands once. At one point he got tomatoes from the storage area and gave them to the lady. He did not wash his hands before touching the tomatoes and she didn't wash the tomatoes before cutting them for an order. We were pretty grossed out, took our order and threw it in the trash. We just couldn't eat it thinking about all the things she had touched prior to touching our food. read more

However, when I walked in with my mask on I noticed that both workers making the sandwiches did not have on a mask! I was very surprised and very disappointed, to say the least! After living in Redding for 13 years, I can't believe today was the first time I've tried the Sandwichery! My buddy and I met up for lunch there, and we both loved our meals. I had a juicy chicken salad sandwich and my friend had one of the salads - generous portions and tasty. Pat and Sandy were so friendly and helpful. I was here for work so the folks around town recommended this place to grab a quick and healthy lunch. The place isn't hard to find because there's a big giant yellow sign with the restaurant name on the restaurant wall outside. The inside of the restaurant feels as though you just walked into the 80s with pastel floral decor and wall paper, kind of like you just walked into your grandparents or great-grandparents' home so this is your total mom and pop restaurant. Even though the inside looks intimidating to want to grab something to eat because it's so outdated, there are two things that makes it worth going trying this restaurant out. 1) The gentleman taking orders and the lady making the sandwiches. Both are very nice people and I can see why people return to this restaurant because of them. Just watching them interact with their regular customers made it feel welcoming. 2) I ordered the Californian which is turkey and avocado with your choice of cheese. Now they don't hold back on the meat and cheese so the sandwich was pretty big, however, the cheese was a little too much for me (some people might like a lot of cheese in theirs but not me, one slice is good enough and I'm a big girl so I can modify the sandwich myself). However, the sandwich was delicious! It hit the spot of that feeling of wanting something fresh and healthy. I took the sandwich to-go so they sliced the sandwich in half and packaged it separately with a toothpick to hold it together. What would have made this the perfect sandwich was if they included pickles or a pickle spear. Other than that, don't let the decor fool you. Here's my rundown of the deliciousness that was the sandwich. First off, the bread was super soft , but was maybe a little too small to hold the enormous amount of meat they put on the sandwich! The turkey was more than plentiful and was thickly sliced and had great flavor! The avocado was perfectly rippened and the rest of the produce was fresh as well. . . . Now let me tell you about this crispy pastrami. . . It is incredible! It's almost like pastrami jerky and it makes my tummy very happy:) Totally recommend this place! It's a sandwich shop yes...but it's a true sandwich shop. Husband and wife behind the counter, they remember people...hustle on sandwiches and make pretty decent ones at that. The location is always packed for lunch, which isn't that hard due to shop size, but you can call in orders and pick them up. It doesn't get much more "mom and pop" then this, and for some lunchtime reading...pickup the owners WWII book that he sells, seems he's not only a sandwich maker but a historian. The Supercombo (corned beef, pastrami, and cheese) was stuffed with meat, and the bread was fresh and delicious.
